    Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.

    Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

    וְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־הַיְּהוּדִיםkol-Hay/ye/hu/DIMall the Jewsאֲשֶׁר־הָיוּa/SHER-ha/YUwho wereאִתּוֹit/TOwith himאֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּet-Ge/dal/YA/huwith Gedaliahבַּמִּצְפָּהbam/Mits/PAat Mizpahוְאֶת־הַכַּשְׂדִּיםve/ET-hak/kas/DIMand the Chaldeansאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנִמְצְאוּ־שָׁםnim/tse/U-shamwere found thereאֵת־אַנְשֵׁיet-an/SHEthe men ofהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAwarהִכָּהhik/KAstruckיִשְׁמָעֵאל׃Yish/ma/ELIshmael

    Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַשֵּׁנִיhash/she/NIthe secondלְהָמִיתle/ha/MITafter he had killedאֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּet-Ge/dal/YA/huGedaliahוְאִישׁve/ISHand anyoneלֹאlonotיָדָע׃ya/DAknew

    And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמִשְּׁכֶםmish/She/KHEMfrom Shechemמִשִּׁלוֹmish/Shi/LOfrom Shilohוּמִשֹּׁמְרוֹןu/Mish/shom/RONand from Samariaשְׁמֹנִיםshe/mo/NIMeightyאִישׁishmenמְגֻלְּחֵיme/gul/le/CHEwith shavedזָקָןza/KANbeardsוּקְרֻעֵיu/ke/ru/Eand tornבְגָדִיםve/ga/DIMclothesוּמִתְגֹּדְדִיםu/mit/god/DIMand cutוּמִנְחָהu/min/CHAwith grain offeringsוּלְבוֹנָהu/le/vo/NAand incenseבְּיָדָםbe/ya/DAMin their handלְהָבִיאle/ha/VIto bring toבֵּיתbetthe house ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniahלִקְרָאתָםlik/ra/TAMto meet themמִן־הַמִּצְפָּהmin-Ham/mits/PAfrom Mizpahהֹלֵךְho/LEKHwalkingהָלֹךְha/LOKHwalkingוּבֹכֶהu/vo/KHEand weepingוַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּפְגֹשׁkif/GOSHas he metאֹתָםo/TAMthemוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themבֹּאוּBO/ucomeאֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּel-Ge/dal/YA/huto Gedaliahבֶן־אֲחִיקָם׃ven-A/chi/KAMson of Ahikam

    And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּבוֹאָםke/vo/AMwhen they cameאֶל־תּוֹךְel-tokhinto the midst ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוַיִּשְׁחָטֵםvay/yish/cha/TEMthat slaughtered themיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniahאֶל־תּוֹךְel-tokhinto the midst ofהַבּוֹרhab/BORthe cisternהוּאhuheוְהָאֲנָשִׁיםve/ha/a/na/SHIMand the menאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹ׃a/SHER-it/TOwho were with him

    And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him.

    וַעֲשָׂרָהva/a/sa/RAand tenאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenנִמְצְאוּ־בָםnim/tse/U-vamwere found among themוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵאלel-Yish/ma/ELto Ishmaelאַל־תְּמִתֵנוּal-te/mi/TE/nudo not kill usכִּי־יֶשׁ־לָנוּki-yesh-LA/nufor we haveמַטְמֹנִיםmat/mo/NIMhidden storesבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldחִטִּיםchit/TIMwheatוּשְׂעֹרִיםu/se/o/RIMand barleyוְשֶׁמֶןve/SHE/menand oilוּדְבָשׁu/de/VASHand honeyוַיֶּחְדַּלvay/yech/DALso he refrainedוְלֹאve/LOand notהֱמִיתָםhe/mi/TAMdid kill themבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongאֲחֵיהֶם׃a/che/HEMtheir brothers

    But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbare, and slew them not among their brethren.

    וְהַבּוֹרve/hab/BORnow the cisternאֲשֶׁרa/SHERinto whichהִשְׁלִיךְhish/LIKHhad castשָׁםshamthereיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelאֵת־כׇּל־פִּגְרֵיet-kol-pig/REall the corpses ofהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהִכָּהhik/KAhe had struckבְּיַד־גְּדַלְיָהוּbe/YAD-ge/dal/YA/hualong with Gedaliahהוּאhuwas the oneאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhad madeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאָסָאA/SAAsaמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofבַּעְשָׁאBa/SHABaashaמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELking of Israelאֹתוֹo/TOitמִלֵּאmil/LEfilledיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהוּben-Ne/tan/YA/huson of Nethaniahחֲלָלִים׃cha/la/LIMwith the slain

    Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, was it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slain.

    וַיִּשְׁבְּvay/YISHBthen carried captiveיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelאֶת־כׇּל־שְׁאֵרִיתet-kol-she/e/RITall the rest ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereבַּמִּצְפָּהbam/Mits/PAat Mizpahאֶת־בְּנוֹתet-be/NOTdaughters ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָםve/ET-kol-ha/AMand all the peopleהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםhan/nish/a/RIMwho remainedבַּמִּצְפָּהbam/Mits/PAat Mizpahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהִפְקִידhif/KIDhad committedנְבוּזַרְאֲדָןNe/vu/zar/a/DANNebuzar-adanרַב־טַבָּחִיםrav-tab/ba/CHIMthe captain of the guardאֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּet-Ge/dal/YA/huto Gedaliahבֶּן־אֲחִיקָםben-A/chi/KAMson of Ahikamוַיִּשְׁבֵּםvay/yish/BEMand carried them captiveיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniahוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand departedלַעֲבֹרla/a/VORto cross overאֶל־בְּנֵיel-be/NEto the sons ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

    Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.

    וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand he heardיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohananבֶּן־קָרֵחַben-Ka/RE/achson of Kareahוְכׇל־שָׂרֵיve/KHOL-sa/REand all the commanders ofהַחֲיָלִיםha/cha/ya/LIMthe forcesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאִתּוֹit/TOwith himאֵת־כׇּל־הָרָעָהet-kol-ha/ra/Aall the evilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhad doneיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָה׃ben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniah

    But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,

    וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־כׇּל־הָאֲנָשִׁיםet-kol-ha/a/na/SHIMall the menוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto fightעִם־יִשְׁמָעֵאלim-Yish/ma/ELwith Ishmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniahוַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uand foundאֹתוֹo/TOhimאֶל־מַיִםel-MA/yimby the watersרַבִּיםrab/BIMgreatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat areבְּגִבְעוֹן׃be/Giv/ONat Gibeon

    Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּרְאוֹתkir/OTwhen sawכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵאלet-Yish/ma/ELwith Ishmaelאֶת־יוֹחָנָןet-Yo/cha/NANJohananבֶּן־קָרֵחַben-Ka/RE/achson of Kareahוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־שָׂרֵיkol-sa/REall the commanders ofהַחֲיָלִיםha/cha/ya/LIMthe forcesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאִתּוֹit/TOwith himוַיִּשְׂמָחוּ׃vay/yis/MA/chuand they were glad

    Now it came to pass, that when all the people which were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.

    וַיָּסֹבּוּvay/ya/SOB/buso turned aroundכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleאֲשֶׁר־שָׁבָהa/SHER-sha/VAwhom had carried captiveיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelמִן־הַמִּצְפָּהmin-Ham/mits/PAfrom Mizpahוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand came backוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentאֶל־יוֹחָנָןel-Yo/cha/NANto Johananבֶּן־קָרֵחַ׃ben-Ka/RE/achson of Kareah

    So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.

  15. 15

    וְיִשְׁמָעֵאלve/Yish/ma/ELand Ishmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniahנִמְלַטnim/LATescapedבִּשְׁמֹנָהbish/mo/NAwith eightאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfromיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohananוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאֶל־בְּנֵיel-be/NEto the sons ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

    But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohananבֶּן־קָרֵחַben-Ka/RE/achson of Kareahוְכׇל־שָׂרֵיve/KHOL-sa/REand all the commanders ofהַחיָלִיםhach/ya/LIMthe forcesאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho were with himאֵת־כׇּל־שְׁאֵרִיתet-kol-she/e/RITall the rest ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהֵשִׁיבhe/SHIVhe had recoveredמֵאֵתme/ETfromיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniahמִן־הַמִּצְפָּהmin-Ham/mits/PAfrom Mizpahאַחַרa/CHARafterהִכָּהhik/KAhe had struckאֶת־גְּדַלְיָהet-Ge/dal/YAGedaliahבֶּן־אֲחִיקָםben-A/chi/KAMson of Ahikamגְּבָרִיםge/va/RIMmenאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAwarוְנָשִׁיםve/na/SHIMand womenוְטַףve/TAFand childrenוְסָרִסִיםve/sa/ri/SIMand officialsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהֵשִׁיבhe/SHIVhe had brought backמִגִּבְעוֹן׃mig/Giv/ONfrom Gibeon

    Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:

    וַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand stayedבְּגֵרוּתbe/Ge/RUTat Geruth(כמוהם)khamavaham[כִּמְהָם]Kim/HAMChimhamאֲשֶׁר־אֵצֶלa/SHER-E/tselwhich is nearבֵּיתBetBeth-לָחֶםLA/chemlehemלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goלָבוֹאla/VOto enterמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimEgypt

    And they departed, and dwelt in the habitation of Chimham, which is by Beth-lehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

    מִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofהַכַּשְׂדִּיםhak/Kas/DIMthe Chaldeansכִּיkiforיָרְאוּya/re/Uthey were afraidמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMof themכִּי־הִכָּהki-hik/KAbecause had struckיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelבֶּן־נְתַנְיָהben-Ne/tan/YAson of Nethaniahאֶת־גְּדַלְיָהוּet-Ge/dal/YA/huGedaliahבֶּן־אֲחִיקָםben-A/chi/KAMson of Ahikamאֲשֶׁר־הִפְקִידa/SHER-hif/KIDwhom had appointedמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלME/lekh-Ba/VELking of Babylonבָּאָרֶץ׃ba/A/retsin the land

    Because of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.
