   אִם־תָּשׁוּבim-ta/SHUVif you will returnיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELO Israelנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDאֵלַיe/LAYto meתָּשׁוּבta/SHUVreturnוְאִם־תָּסִירve/IM-ta/SIRand if you will put awayשִׁקּוּצֶיךָshik/ku/TSE/khayour detestable thingsמִפָּנַיmip/pa/NAYfrom my sightוְלֹאve/LOand notתָנוּד׃ta/NUDwaver

   If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.

   וְנִשְׁבַּעְתָּve/nish/BA/taand you will swearחַי־יְהֹוָהchay-Adonaias the LORD livesבֶּאֱמֶתbe/e/METin truthבְּמִשְׁפָּטbe/mish/PATin justiceוּבִצְדָקָהu/vits/da/KAand in righteousnessוְהִתְבָּרְכוּve/hit/BAR/khuthen will bless themselvesבוֹvoin Himגּוֹיִםgo/YIMnationsוּבוֹu/VOand in Himיִתְהַלָּלוּ׃yit/hal/LA/luwill they glory

   And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

   כִּי־כֹהki-khofor thusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלְאִישׁle/ISHto the men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוְלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםve/Li/ru/sha/LA/yimand to JerusalemנִירוּNI/rubreak upלָכֶםla/KHEMfor yourselvesנִירnirfallow groundוְאַל־תִּזְרְעוּve/AL-tiz/re/Uand do not sowאֶל־קֹצִים׃el-ko/TSIMamong thorns

   For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

   הִמֹּלוּhim/MO/lucircumcise yourselvesלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDוְהָסִרוּve/ha/SI/ruand removeעׇרְלוֹתor/LOTthe foreskins ofלְבַבְכֶםle/vav/KHEMyour heartsאִישׁishO men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוְיֹשְׁבֵיve/yosh/VEand the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemפֶּן־תֵּצֵאpen-te/TSElest go outכָאֵשׁkha/ESHlike fireחֲמָתִיcha/ma/TImy furyוּבָעֲרָהu/va/a/RAand burnוְאֵיןve/ENand there is noמְכַבֶּהme/khab/BEone to quench itמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofרֹעַRO/athe evil ofמַעַלְלֵיכֶם׃ma/al/le/KHEMyour doings

   Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

   Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

   שְׂאוּ־נֵסse/U-nesset up a standardצִיּוֹנָהTsiy/YO/natoward Zionהָעִיזוּha/I/zuflee for safetyאַל־תַּעֲמֹדוּal-ta/a/MO/dudo not stayכִּיkiforרָעָהra/Aevilאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמֵבִיאme/VIwill bringמִצָּפוֹןmits/tsa/FONfrom the northוְשֶׁבֶרve/SHE/verand a destructionגָּדוֹל׃ga/DOLgreat

   Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

   עָלָהa/LAhas come upאַרְיֵהar/YEa lionמִסֻּבְּכוֹmis/sub/be/KHOfrom its thicketוּמַשְׁחִיתu/mash/CHITand the destroyer ofגּוֹיִםgo/YIMnationsנָסַעna/SAis on his wayיָצָאya/TSAhe has gone outמִמְּקֹמוֹmim/me/ko/MOfrom his placeלָשׂוּםla/SUMto makeאַרְצֵךְar/TSEKHyour landלְשַׁמָּהle/sham/MAa desolationעָרַיִךְa/RA/yikhyour citiesתִּצֶּינָהtits/TSE/nawill be laid wasteמֵאֵיןme/ENwithoutיוֹשֵׁב׃yo/SHEVinhabitant

   The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

   עַל־זֹאתal-zotfor thisחִגְרוּchig/RUgird yourselves withשַׂקִּיםsak/KIMsackclothסִפְדוּsif/DUlamentוְהֵילִילוּve/he/LI/luand wailכִּיkiforלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavhas not turned backחֲרוֹןcha/RONthe fierceאַף־יְהֹוָהaf-Adonaianger of the LORDמִמֶּנּוּ׃mim/MEN/nufrom us

   For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

9. 9

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall come to passבַיּוֹם־הַהוּאvay/YOM-ha/HUin that dayנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDיֹאבַדyo/VADwill failלֵב־הַמֶּלֶךְlev-ham/ME/lekhthe heart of the kingוְלֵבve/LEVand the heart ofהַשָּׂרִיםhas/sa/RIMthe princesוְנָשַׁמּוּve/na/SHAM/muand will be appalledהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְהַנְּבִאִיםve/han/ne/vi/IMand the prophetsיִתְמָהוּ׃yit/MA/huwill be astounded

   And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲהָהּa/HAalasאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYO LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODאָכֵןa/KHENsurelyהַשֵּׁאhash/SHEdeceiveהִשֵּׁאתָhish/SHE/taYou have deceivedלָעָםla/AMto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםve/Li/ru/sha/LA/yimand to Jerusalemלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceיִהְיֶהyih/YEthere will beלָכֶםla/KHEMto youוְנָגְעָהve/na/ge/Awhereas reachesחֶרֶבCHE/revthe swordעַד־הַנָּפֶשׁ׃ad-han/NA/feshto the soul

    Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.

11. 11

    בָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatיֵאָמֵרye/a/MERit will be saidלָעָם־הַזֶּהla/AM-haz/ZEto this peopleוְלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםve/Li/ru/sha/LA/yimand to JerusalemרוּחַRU/acha windצַחtsachhotשְׁפָיִםshe/FA/yimof the bare heightsבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhtowardבַּת־עַמִּיbat-am/MIthe daughter of my peopleלוֹאlonotלִזְרוֹתliz/ROTto winnowוְלוֹאve/LOand notלְהָבַר׃le/ha/VARto cleanse

    At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,

12. 12

    רוּחַRU/acha windמָלֵאma/LEtoo fullמֵאֵלֶּהme/EL/lefor theseיָבוֹאya/VOwill comeלִיlifor meעַתָּהat/TAnowגַּם־אֲנִיgam-a/NII alsoאֲדַבֵּרa/dab/BERwill pronounceמִשְׁפָּטִיםmish/pa/TIMjudgmentsאוֹתָם׃o/TAMagainst them

    Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.

13. 13

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdכַּעֲנָנִיםka/a/na/NIMlike cloudsיַעֲלֶהya/a/LEhe comes upוְכַסּוּפָהve/khas/su/FAand like the storm windמַרְכְּבוֹתָיוmar/ke/vo/TAYVhis chariots areקַלּוּKAL/luare swifterמִנְּשָׁרִיםmin/ne/sha/RIMthan eaglesסוּסָיוsu/SAYVhis horsesאוֹיoywoeלָנוּLA/nuto usכִּיkiforשֻׁדָּדְנוּ׃shud/DAD/nuwe are devastated

    Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.

14. 14

    כַּבְּסִיkab/be/SIwashמֵרָעָהme/ra/Afrom evilלִבֵּךְlib/BEKHyour heartיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimO Jerusalemלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתִּוָּשֵׁעִיtiv/va/SHE/iyou may be savedעַד־מָתַיad-ma/TAYhow longתָּלִיןta/LINwill lodgeבְּקִרְבֵּךְbe/kir/BEKHin your midstמַחְשְׁבוֹתmach/she/VOTthe thoughts ofאוֹנֵךְ׃o/NEKHyour wickedness

    O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

15. 15

    כִּיkiforקוֹלkolthe voice ofמַגִּידmag/GIDdeclaresמִדָּןmid/DANfrom Danוּמַשְׁמִיעַu/mash/MI/aand proclaimsאָוֶןA/ventroubleמֵהַרme/HARfrom the mountain ofאֶפְרָיִם׃Ef/RA/yimEphraim

    For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.

16. 16

    הַזְכִּירוּhaz/KI/ruremindלַגּוֹיִםlag/go/YIMto the nationsהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַשְׁמִיעוּhash/MI/utellעַל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםal-Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimagainst Jerusalemנֹצְרִיםnots/RIMbesiegersבָּאִיםba/IMare comingמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom a landהַמֶּרְחָקham/mer/CHAKfar awayוַיִּתְּנוּvay/yit/te/NUand they raiseעַל־עָרֵיal-a/REagainst the cities ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahקוֹלָם׃ko/LAMtheir voice

    Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

17. 17

    כְּשֹׁמְרֵיke/shom/RElike keepers ofשָׂדַיsa/DAYa fieldהָיוּha/YUthey areעָלֶיהָa/LE/haagainst herמִסָּבִיבmis/sa/VIVall aroundכִּי־אֹתִיki-o/TIbecause meמָרָתָהma/RA/tashe has rebelled againstנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.

18. 18

    דַּרְכֵּךְdar/KEKHyour wayוּמַעֲלָלַיִךְu/ma/a/la/LA/yikhand your deedsעָשׂוֹa/SOhave doneאֵלֶּהEL/letheseלָךְlakhto youזֹאתzotthis isרָעָתֵךְra/a/TEKHyour wickednessכִּיkiforמָרmarit is bitterכִּיkiforנָגַעna/GAit reachesעַד־לִבֵּךְ׃ad-lib/BEKHuntil your heart

    Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

19. 19

    מֵעַיme/AYmy bowelsמֵעַיme/AYmy bowels[אוֹחִילָה]o/CHI/laI writheקִירוֹתki/ROTthe walls ofלִבִּיlib/BImy heartהֹמֶה־לִּיho/ME-liis pounding in meלִבִּיlib/BImy heartלֹאlonotאַחֲרִשׁa/cha/RISHcan I keep silentכִּיkiforקוֹלkolthe voice ofשׁוֹפָרsho/FARthe trumpet(שמעתי)shamtay[שָׁמַעַתְּ]sha/MA/attyou have heardנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHIO my soulתְּרוּעַתte/ru/ATthe alarm ofמִלְחָמָה׃mil/cha/MAwar

    My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

    שֶׁבֶרSHE/verdestructionעַל־שֶׁבֶרal-SHE/veron destructionנִקְרָאnik/RAis proclaimedכִּיkiforשֻׁדְּדָהshud/de/DAis laid wasteכׇּל־הָאָרֶץkol-ha/A/retsall the landפִּתְאֹםpit/OMsuddenlyשֻׁדְּדוּshud/de/DUare laid wasteאֹהָלַיo/ha/LAYmy tentsרֶגַעRE/gain a momentיְרִיעֹתָי׃ye/ri/o/TAYmy tent curtains

    Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.

21. 21

    עַד־מָתַיad-ma/TAYhow longאֶרְאֶה־נֵּסer/E-nesmust I see the standardאֶשְׁמְעָהesh/me/Aand hearקוֹלkolthe voice ofשׁוֹפָר׃sho/FARthe trumpet

    How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

22. 22

    כִּיkiforאֱוִילe/VILfoolishעַמִּיam/MIare my peopleאוֹתִיo/TImeלֹאlonotיָדָעוּya/DA/uthey have knownבָּנִיםba/NIMchildrenסְכָלִיםse/kha/LIMfoolishהֵמָּהHEM/maare theyוְלֹאve/LOand notנְבוֹנִיםne/vo/NIMunderstandingהֵמָּהHEM/maare theyחֲכָמִיםcha/kha/MIMwiseהֵמָּהHEM/maare theyלְהָרַעle/ha/RAat doing evilוּלְהֵיטִיבu/le/he/TIVbut to do goodלֹאlonotיָדָעוּ׃ya/DA/uthey know

    For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

23. 23

    רָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe earthוְהִנֵּה־תֹהוּve/hin/NE-TO/huand behold it was without formוָבֹהוּva/VO/huand voidוְאֶל־הַשָּׁמַיִםve/EL-hash/sha/MA/yimand to the heavensוְאֵיןve/ENand they had noאוֹרָם׃o/RAMlight

    I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

24. 24

    רָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawהֶהָרִיםhe/ha/RIMthe mountainsוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdרֹעֲשִׁיםro/a/SHIMwere quakingוְכׇל־הַגְּבָעוֹתve/KHOL-hag/ge/va/OTand all the hillsהִתְקַלְקָלוּ׃hit/kal/KA/lumoved to and fro

    I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.

25. 25

    רָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֵיןenthere was noהָאָדָםha/a/DAMmanוְכׇל־עוֹףve/KHOL-ofand all the birds ofהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensנָדָדוּ׃na/DA/duhad fled

    I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.

26. 26

    רָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהַכַּרְמֶלhak/kar/MELthe fruitful land wasהַמִּדְבָּרham/mid/BARa wildernessוְכׇל־עָרָיוve/KHOL-a/RAYVand all its citiesנִתְּצוּnit/te/TSUwere broken downמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofחֲרוֹןcha/RONHis fierceאַפּוֹ׃ap/POanger

    I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

27. 27

    כִּי־כֹהki-khofor thusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשְׁמָמָהshe/ma/MAa desolationתִהְיֶהtih/YEwill beכׇּל־הָאָרֶץkol-ha/A/retsall the landוְכָלָהve/kha/LAyet a full endלֹאlonotאֶעֱשֶׂה׃e/e/SEwill I make

    For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.

28. 28

    עַל־זֹאתal-zotfor thisתֶּאֱבַלte/e/VALit will mournהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe earthוְקָדְרוּve/ka/de/RUand will be blackהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensמִמָּעַלmim/MA/alfrom aboveעַלalbecauseכִּי־דִבַּרְתִּיki-dib/BAR/tiI have spokenזַמֹּתִיzam/mo/TII have purposedוְלֹאve/LOand notנִחַמְתִּיni/CHAM/tiI have relentedוְלֹא־אָשׁוּבve/LO-a/SHUVand I will not turn backמִמֶּנָּה׃mim/MEN/nafrom it

    For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

29. 29

    מִקּוֹלmik/KOLat the voice ofפָּרָשׁpa/RASHa horsemanוְרֹמֵהve/RO/meand a shooter ofקֶשֶׁתKE/sheta bowבֹּרַחַתbo/RA/chatfleesכׇּל־הָעִירkol-ha/IRall the cityבָּאוּBA/uthey go intoבֶּעָבִיםbe/a/VIMthe thicketsוּבַכֵּפִיםu/vak/ke/FIMand among the rocksעָלוּa/LUthey climbכׇּל־הָעִירkol-ha/IRevery city isעֲזוּבָהa/zu/VAforsakenוְאֵין־יוֹשֵׁבve/EN-yo/SHEVand no one dwellsבָּהֵןba/HENin themאִישׁ׃isha man

    The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.

    (ואתי)vtay[וְאַתְּ]ve/ATTand youשָׁדוּדsha/DUDO desolate oneמַה־תַּעֲשִׂיma-ta/a/SIwhat will you doכִּי־תִלְבְּשִׁיki-til/be/SHIthough you clothe yourself inשָׁנִיsha/NIscarletכִּי־תַעְדִּיki-ta/DIthough you adorn yourself withעֲדִי־זָהָבa/DI-za/HAVornaments of goldכִּי־תִקְרְעִיki-tik/re/Ithough you enlargeבַפּוּךְvap/PUKHwith paintעֵינַיִךְe/NA/yikhyour eyesלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainתִּתְיַפִּיtit/yap/PIyou beautify yourselfמָאֲסוּ־בָךְma/a/SU-vakhdespise youעֹגְבִיםog/VIMloversנַפְשֵׁךְnaf/SHEKHyour lifeיְבַקֵּשׁוּ׃ye/vak/KE/shuthey seek

    And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

    כִּיkiforקוֹלkola voiceכְּחוֹלָהke/cho/LAas of a woman in laborשָׁמַעְתִּיsha/MA/tiI have heardצָרָהtsa/RAanguishכְּמַבְכִּירָהke/mav/ki/RAas of one bearing her first childקוֹלkolthe voice ofבַּת־צִיּוֹןbat-Tsiy/YONthe daughter of Zionתִּתְיַפֵּחַtit/yap/PE/achgasping for breathתְּפָרֵשׂte/fa/RESspreading outכַּפֶּיהָkap/PE/haher palmsאוֹי־נָאoy-nawoe nowלִיlito meכִּי־עָיְפָהki-a/ye/FAfor faintsנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy soulלְהֹרְגִים׃le/hor/GIMbefore murderers

    For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.
