   They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

   שְׂאִי־עֵינַיִךְse/I-e/NA/yikhlift up your eyesעַל־שְׁפָיִםal-she/FA/yimto the bare heightsוּרְאִיu/re/Iand seeאֵיפֹהe/FOwhereלֹאlohave you not[שֻׁכַּבְתְּ]shuk/KAVTbeen lain withעַל־דְּרָכִיםal-de/ra/KHIMby the roadsיָשַׁבְתְּya/SHAVTyou have satלָהֶםla/HEMfor themכַּעֲרָבִיka/A/ra/VIlike an Arabבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוַתַּחֲנִיפִיvat/ta/cha/NI/fiand you have pollutedאֶרֶץE/retsthe landבִּזְנוּתַיִךְbiz/nu/TA/yikhwith your harlotriesוּבְרָעָתֵךְ׃u/ve/ra/a/TEKHand by your wickedness

   Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.

   וַיִּמָּנְעוּvay/yim/ma/ne/Utherefore have been withheldרְבִבִיםre/vi/VIMthe showersוּמַלְקוֹשׁu/mal/KOSHand the latter rainלוֹאlonotהָיָהha/YAhas comeוּמֵצַחu/ME/tsachyet the forehead ofאִשָּׁהish/SHAa womanזוֹנָהzo/NAa harlotהָיָהha/YAwasלָךְlakhto youמֵאַנְתְּme/ANTyou refusedהִכָּלֵם׃hik/ka/LEMto be ashamed

   Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

   הֲלוֹאha/LOwill you notמֵעַתָּהme/at/TAfrom now(קראתי)kartay[קָרָאת]ka/RATcallלִיlito meאָבִיa/VImy fatherאַלּוּףal/LUFthe guide ofנְעֻרַיne/u/RAYmy youthאָתָּה׃AT/taare You

   Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?

5. 5

   הֲיִנְטֹרha/yin/TORwill He keep angerלְעוֹלָםle/o/LAMforeverאִם־יִשְׁמֹרim-yish/MORwill He keep itלָנֶצַחla/NE/tsachforeverהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdדִבַּרְתְּdib/BARTyou have spokenוַתַּעֲשִׂיvat/ta/a/SIand doneהָרָעוֹתha/ra/OTevil thingsוַתּוּכָל׃vat/tu/KHALas you could

   Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֵלַיe/LAYto meבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofיֹאשִׁיָּהוּYo/shiy/YA/huJosiahהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהֲרָאִיתָha/ra/I/tahave you seenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhatעָשְׂתָהa/se/TAhas doneמְשֻׁבָהme/shu/VAbackslidingיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהֹלְכָהhol/KHAshe has goneהִיאhisheעַל־כׇּל־הַרal-kol-haron every mountainגָּבֹהַּga/VO/ahhighוְאֶל־תַּחַתve/EL-TA/chatand underכׇּל־עֵץkol-etsevery treeרַעֲנָןra/a/NANgreenוַתִּזְנִי־שָׁם׃vat/tiz/NI-shamand played the harlot there

   The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

   וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterעֲשׂוֹתָהּa/so/TAshe had doneאֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּהet-kol-EL/leall theseאֵלַיe/LAYto meתָּשׁוּבta/SHUVreturnוְלֹא־שָׁבָהve/LO-SHA/vabut she did not return(ותראה)vatarh[וַתֵּרֶא]vat/TE/reand sawבָּגוֹדָהba/go/DAtreacherousאֲחוֹתָהּa/cho/TAher sisterיְהוּדָה׃Ye/hu/DAJudah

   And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

   וָאֵרֶאva/E/reand I sawכִּיkithatעַל־כׇּל־אֹדוֹתal-kol-o/DOTfor all the causesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERfor whichנִאֲפָהni/a/FAcommitted adulteryמְשֻׁבָהme/shu/VAbackslidingיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelשִׁלַּחְתִּיהָshil/lach/TI/haI had put her awayוָאֶתֵּןva/et/TENand givenאֶת־סֵפֶרet-SE/fera bill ofכְּרִיתֻתֶיהָke/ri/tu/TE/haher divorceאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herוְלֹאve/LOand notיָרְאָהya/re/Adid fearבֹּגֵדָהbo/ge/DAtreacherousיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֲחוֹתָהּa/cho/TAher sisterוַתֵּלֶךְvat/TE/lekhand she wentוַתִּזֶןvat/TI/zenand played the harlotגַּם־הִיא׃gam-hishe also

   And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

9. 9

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it came to passמִקֹּלmik/KOLthrough the lightness ofזְנוּתָהּze/nu/TAher harlotryוַתֶּחֱנַףvat/te/che/NAFthat she pollutedאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landוַתִּנְאַףvat/tin/AFand committed adultery withאֶת־הָאֶבֶןet-ha/E/venthe stoneוְאֶת־הָעֵץ׃ve/ET-ha/ETSand the tree

   And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

10. 10

    וְגַם־בְּכׇל־זֹאתve/GAM-be/KHOL-zotand also in all thisלֹא־שָׁבָהlo-SHA/vahas not returnedאֵלַיe/LAYto meבָּגוֹדָהba/go/DAtreacherousאֲחוֹתָהּa/cho/TAher sisterיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahבְּכׇל־לִבָּהּbe/KHOL-lib/BAwith all her heartכִּיkibutאִם־בְּשֶׁקֶרim-be/SHE/kerin falsehoodנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֵלַיe/LAYto meצִדְּקָהtsid/de/KAhas shown more righteousנַפְשָׁהּnaf/SHAherselfמְשֻׁבָהme/shu/VAbackslidingיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמִבֹּגֵדָהmib/bo/ge/DAthan treacherousיְהוּדָה׃Ye/hu/DAJudah

    And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

12. 12

    הָלֹךְha/LOKHgoוְקָרָאתָve/ka/RA/taand proclaimאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseצָפוֹנָהtsa/FO/natoward the northוְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayשׁוּבָהshu/VAreturnמְשֻׁבָהme/shu/VAbackslidingיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDלוֹא־אַפִּילlo-ap/PILI will not cause to fallפָּנַיpa/NAYmy faceבָּכֶםba/KHEMon youכִּי־חָסִידki-cha/SIDfor mercifulאֲנִיa/NIam Iנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDלֹאlonotאֶטּוֹרet/TORwill I keep angerלְעוֹלָם׃le/o/LAMforever

    Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.

13. 13

    אַךְakhonlyדְּעִיde/Iknowעֲוֺנֵךְa/vo/NEKHyour iniquityכִּיkithatבַּיהֹוָהba-Adonaiin the LORDאֱלֹהַיִךְe/lo/HA/yikhyour Godפָּשָׁעַתְּpa/SHA/attyou have transgressedוַתְּפַזְּרִיvat/te/faz/ze/RIand have scatteredאֶת־דְּרָכַיִךְet-de/ra/KHA/yikhyour waysלַזָּרִיםlaz/za/RIMto strangersתַּחַתTA/chatunderכׇּל־עֵץkol-etsevery treeרַעֲנָןra/a/NANgreenוּבְקוֹלִיu/ve/ko/LIand my voiceלֹא־שְׁמַעְתֶּםlo-she/ma/TEMyou have not obeyedנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.

14. 14

    שׁוּבוּSHU/vureturnבָנִיםva/NIMsonsשׁוֹבָבִיםsho/va/VIMbackslidingנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDכִּיkiforאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIבָּעַלְתִּיba/AL/tiam a husbandבָכֶםva/KHEMto youוְלָקַחְתִּיve/la/kach/TIand I will takeאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵעִירme/IRfrom a cityוּשְׁנַיִםu/she/NA/yimand twoמִמִּשְׁפָּחָהmim/mish/pa/CHAfrom a familyוְהֵבֵאתִיve/he/ve/TIand I will bringאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouצִיּוֹן׃Tsiy/YONto Zion

    Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

15. 15

    וְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TIand I will giveלָכֶםla/KHEMto youרֹעִיםro/IMshepherdsכְּלִבִּיke/lib/BIaccording to my heartוְרָעוּve/ra/Uwho will feedאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouדֵּעָהde/Awith knowledgeוְהַשְׂכֵּיל׃ve/has/KELand understanding

    And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

16. 16

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall come to passכִּיkiwhenתִרְבּוּtir/BUyou will multiplyוּפְרִיתֶםu/fe/ri/TEMand you will be fruitfulבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landבַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵמָּהha/HEM/mathoseנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDלֹא־יֹאמְרוּlo-yo/me/RUthey will not sayעוֹדodagainאֲרוֹןa/RONthe ark ofבְּרִית־יְהֹוָהbe/RIT-Adonaithe covenant of the LORDוְלֹאve/LOand notיַעֲלֶהya/a/LEwill it comeעַל־לֵבal-levto mindוְלֹאve/LOand notיִזְכְּרוּ־בוֹyiz/ke/RU-vowill they remember itוְלֹאve/LOand notיִפְקֹדוּyif/KO/duwill they miss itוְלֹאve/LOand notיֵעָשֶׂהye/a/SEwill it be madeעוֹד׃odagain

    And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.

17. 17

    בָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatיִקְרְאוּyik/re/Uthey will callלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםLi/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemכִּסֵּאkis/SEthe throne ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְנִקְווּve/nik/VUand will be gatheredאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herכׇל־הַגּוֹיִםkhol-hag/go/YIMall the nationsלְשֵׁםle/SHEMto the name ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםlI/ru/sha/LA/yimat Jerusalemוְלֹא־יֵלְכוּve/LO-yel/KHUand will not walkעוֹדodany moreאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterשְׁרִרוּתshe/ri/RUTthe stubbornness ofלִבָּםlib/BAMtheir heartsהָרָע׃ha/RAevil

    At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

18. 18

    בַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵמָּהha/HEM/mathoseיֵלְכוּyel/KHUwill walkבֵית־יְהוּדָהvet-Ye/hu/DAthe house of Judahעַל־בֵּיתal-betwith the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְיָבֹאוּve/ya/VO/uand shall comeיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofצָפוֹןtsa/FONthe northעַל־הָאָרֶץal-ha/A/retsto the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהִנְחַלְתִּיhin/CHAL/tiI gave as an inheritanceאֶת־אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם׃et-a/vo/te/KHEMyour fathers

    In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.

19. 19

    וְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIyet Iאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI saidאֵיךְekhhowאֲשִׁיתֵךְa/shi/TEKHI will set youבַּבָּנִיםbab/ba/NIMamong the sonsוְאֶתֶּן־לָךְve/et/TEN-lakhand give youאֶרֶץE/retsa land ofחֶמְדָּהchem/DAdelightנַחֲלַתna/cha/LATan inheritance ofצְבִיtse/VIbeauty ofצִבְאוֹתtsiv/OTthe hosts ofגּוֹיִםgo/YIMnationsוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאָבִיa/VImy father(תקראו)takarv[תִּקְרְאִי־]לִיtik/re/I-liyou will call meוּמֵאַחֲרַיu/me/a/cha/RAYand from following meלֹאlonot(תשובו)tashavavav[תָשׁוּבִי]׃ta/SHU/viturn away

    But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.

20. 20

    אָכֵןa/KHENsurelyבָּגְדָהba/ge/DAdeals treacherouslyאִשָּׁהish/SHAa womanמֵרֵעָהּme/re/Afrom her companionכֵּןkensoבְּגַדְתֶּםbe/gad/TEMyou have acted treacherouslyבִּיbiagainst meבֵּיתbetthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.

21. 21

    קוֹלkolthe voice ofעַל־שְׁפָיִיםal-she/fa/YIMon the bare heightsנִשְׁמָעnish/MAis heardבְּכִיbe/KHIweepingתַחֲנוּנֵיta/cha/nu/NEthe supplications ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכִּיkiforהֶעֱווּhe/e/VUthey have pervertedאֶת־דַּרְכָּםet-dar/KAMtheir wayשָׁכְחוּsha/khe/CHUthey have forgottenאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMtheir God

    A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.

22. 22

    שׁוּבוּSHU/vureturnבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsשׁוֹבָבִיםsho/va/VIMbackslidingאֶרְפָּהer/PAI will healמְשׁוּבֹתֵיכֶםme/shu/vo/te/KHEMyour backslidingsהִנְנוּhin/NUbehold weאָתָנוּa/TA/nucomeלָךְlakhto youכִּיkiforאַתָּהat/TAYou areיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּ׃e/lo/HE/nuour God

    Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.

23. 23

    אָכֵןa/KHENsurelyלַשֶּׁקֶרlash/SHE/kerin vainמִגְּבָעוֹתmig/ge/va/OTfrom the hillsהָמוֹןha/MONthe tumult onהָרִיםha/RIMmountainsאָכֵןa/KHENsurelyבַּיהֹוָהba-Adonaiin the LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godתְּשׁוּעַתte/shu/ATis the salvation ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

24. 24

    וְהַבֹּשֶׁתve/hab/BO/shetbut the shameful thingאָכְלָהa/khe/LAhas devouredאֶת־יְגִיעַet-ye/GI/athe labor ofאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersמִנְּעוּרֵינוּmin/ne/u/RE/nufrom our youthאֶת־צֹאנָםet-tso/NAMtheir flocksוְאֶת־בְּקָרָםve/ET-be/ka/RAMand their herdsאֶת־בְּנֵיהֶםet-be/ne/HEMtheir sonsוְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶם׃ve/ET-be/no/te/HEMand their daughters

    For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

    נִשְׁכְּבָהnish/ke/VAlet us lie downבְּבׇשְׁתֵּנוּbe/vosh/TE/nuin our shameוּתְכַסֵּנוּu/te/khas/se/NUand let cover usכְּלִמָּתֵנוּke/lim/ma/te/NUour disgraceכִּיkiforלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godחָטָאנוּcha/TA/nuwe have sinnedאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweוַאֲבוֹתֵינוּva/a/vo/TE/nuand our fathersמִנְּעוּרֵינוּmin/ne/u/RE/nufrom our youthוְעַד־הַיּוֹםve/AD-hay/YOMand to the dayהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְלֹאve/LOand notשָׁמַעְנוּsha/MA/nuwe have obeyedבְּקוֹלbe/KOLthe voice ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּ׃e/lo/HE/nuour God

    We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
