    וַיִּמְלׇךְ־מֶלֶךְand reigned kingצִדְקִיָּהוּZedekiahבֶּן־יֹאשִׁיָּהוּson of JosiahתַּחַתunderכׇּנְיָהוּConiahבֶּן־יְהוֹיָקִיםson of Jehoiakimאֲשֶׁרwhichהִמְלִיךְhe had made kingנְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּרNebuchadrezzarמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלking of Babylonבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofיְהוּדָה׃Judah

    And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

    וְלֹאand notשָׁמַעheardהוּאheוַעֲבָדָיוand his servantsוְעַםand the people ofהָאָרֶץthe landאֶל־דִּבְרֵיto the words ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבֶּרspokeבְּיַדin the hand ofיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahהַנָּבִיא׃the prophet

    But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחand sentהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingצִדְקִיָּהוּZedekiahאֶת־יְהוּכַלJehucalבֶּן־שֶׁלֶמְיָהson of Shelemiahוְאֶת־צְפַנְיָהוּand Zephaniahבֶן־מַעֲשֵׂיָהson of Maaseiahהַכֹּהֵןthe priestאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּto Jeremiahהַנָּבִיאthe prophetלֵאמֹרsayingהִתְפַּלֶּל־נָאpray I prayבַעֲדֵנוּfor usאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּ׃our God

    And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

    וְיִרְמְיָהוּand Jeremiahבָּאcameוְיֹצֵאand going outבְּתוֹךְamongהָעָםthe peopleוְלֹא־נָתְנוּand not they gaveאֹתוֹhimבֵּיתthe house of[הַכְּלוּא]׃the prison

    Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

    וְחֵילand the army ofפַּרְעֹהPharaohיָצָאhe went forthמִמִּצְרָיִםfrom Egyptוַיִּשְׁמְעוּand they heardהַכַּשְׂדִּיםthe Chaldeansהַצָּרִיםthose besiegingעַל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםupon Jerusalemאֶת־שִׁמְעָםtheir reportוַיֵּעָלוּand they took themselves upמֵעַלfrom uponיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Jerusalem

    Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּto Jeremiahהַנָּבִיאthe prophetלֵאמֹר׃saying

    Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

    כֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכֹּהthusתֹאמְרוּyou shall sayאֶל־מֶלֶךְto the king ofיְהוּדָהJudahהַשֹּׁלֵחַthe one who sentאֶתְכֶםyouאֵלַיto meלְדׇרְשֵׁנִיto consult meהִנֵּהbeholdחֵילthe army ofפַּרְעֹהPharaohהַיֹּצֵאthe one which goes outלָכֶםto youלְעֶזְרָהfor helpשָׁבreturningלְאַרְצוֹto his own landמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

    וְשָׁבוּand they shall returnהַכַּשְׂדִּיםthe Chaldeansוְנִלְחֲמוּand they will fightעַל־הָעִירupon the cityהַזֹּאתthisוּלְכָדֻהָand they will capture itוּשְׂרָפֻהָand they will burn itבָאֵשׁ׃in fire

    And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאַל־תַּשִּׁאוּdo not you deceiveנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםyour soulsלֵאמֹרsayingהָלֹךְsurelyיֵלְכוּthey shall departמֵעָלֵינוּfrom upon usהַכַּשְׂדִּיםthe Chaldeansכִּי־לֹאthat notיֵלֵכוּ׃they shall depart

    Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

    כִּיforאִם־הִכִּיתֶםif you struck downכׇּל־חֵילall the army ofכַּשְׂדִּיםChaldeansהַנִּלְחָמִיםthose who fightאִתְּכֶםwith youוְנִשְׁאֲרוּ־בָםand remain in themאֲנָשִׁיםmenמְדֻקָּרִיםpiercedאִישׁa manבְּאׇהֳלוֹin his tentיָקוּמוּthey shall standוְשָׂרְפוּand they will burnאֶת־הָעִירthe cityהַזֹּאתthisבָּאֵשׁ׃by fire

    For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

    וְהָיָהand beבְּהֵעָלוֹתwhen had taken itself upחֵילthe army ofהַכַּשְׂדִּיםthe Chaldeansמֵעַלfrom uponיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםJerusalemמִפְּנֵיbecause ofחֵילthe army ofפַּרְעֹה׃Pharaoh

    And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,

    וַיֵּצֵאand went outיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahמִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםfrom Jerusalemלָלֶכֶתto goאֶרֶץthe land ofבִּנְיָמִןBenjaminלַחֲלִקto receive a portionמִשָּׁםfrom thereבְּתוֹךְamongהָעָם׃the people

    Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

    וַיְהִי־הוּאand it came to pass heבְּשַׁעַרin the gate ofבִּנְיָמִןBenjaminוְשָׁםand thereבַּעַלa captain ofפְּקִדֻתthe oversight ofוּשְׁמוֹand his nameיִרְאִיָּיהJeriahבֶּן־שֶׁלֶמְיָהson of Shelemiahבֶּן־חֲנַנְיָהson of Hananiahוַיִּתְפֹּשׂand he seizedאֶת־יִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahהַנָּבִיאthe prophetלֵאמֹרsayingאֶל־הַכַּשְׂדִּיםto the Chaldeansאַתָּהyouנֹפֵל׃falling

    And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahשֶׁקֶרfalseאֵינֶנִּיI am notנֹפֵלfallingעַל־הַכַּשְׂדִּיםupon the Chaldeansוְלֹאand notשָׁמַעheardאֵלָיוto himוַיִּתְפֹּשׂand he seizedיִרְאִיָּיהJeriahבְּיִרְמְיָהוּon Jeremiahוַיְבִאֵהוּand he brought himאֶל־הַשָּׂרִים׃to the princes

    Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

    וַיִּקְצְפוּand they were angryהַשָּׂרִיםthe princesעַל־יִרְמְיָהוּupon Jeremiahוְהִכּוּand they struckאֹתוֹhimוְנָתְנוּand they putאוֹתוֹhimבֵּיתthe house ofהָאֵסוּרthe fettersבֵּיתthe house ofיְהוֹנָתָןJonathanהַסֹּפֵרthe scribeכִּי־אֹתוֹbecause himעָשׂוּthey didלְבֵיתto the house ofהַכֶּלֶא׃the prison

    Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

    כִּיbecauseבָאcameיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofהַבּוֹרthe pitוְאֶל־הַחֲנֻיוֹתand to the cellsוַיֵּשֶׁב־שָׁםand he dwelt thereיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahיָמִיםdaysרַבִּים׃many

    When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

    וַיִּשְׁלַחand sentהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingצִדְקִיָּהוּZedekiahוַיִּקָּחֵהוּand he took himוַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּand asked himהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingבְּבֵיתוֹin his houseבַּסֵּתֶרin secretוַיֹּאמֶרand saidהֲיֵשׁis thereדָּבָרa wordמֵאֵתfromיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיֹּאמֶרand saidיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahיֵשׁthere isוַיֹּאמֶרand saidבְּיַדin the hand ofמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלking of Babylonתִּנָּתֵן׃you will be given

    Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְunto the kingצִדְקִיָּהוּZedekiahמֶהwhatחָטָאתִיhave I sinnedלְךָfor youוְלַעֲבָדֶיךָand for your servantsוְלָעָםand to the peopleהַזֶּהthisכִּי־נְתַתֶּםbecause you gaveאוֹתִיmeאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofהַכֶּלֶא׃the prison

    Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

  19. 19

    (ואיו)[וְאַיֵּה]and whereנְבִיאֵיכֶםyour prophetsאֲשֶׁר־נִבְּאוּwhich have prophesiedלָכֶםto youלֵאמֹרsayingלֹא־יָבֹאnot shall comeמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלking of Babylonעֲלֵיכֶםover youוְעַלand uponהָאָרֶץthe landהַזֹּאת׃this

    Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

  20. 20

    וְעַתָּהand nowשְׁמַע־נָאhearken I prayאֲדֹנִיmy lordהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingתִּפׇּל־נָאlet fall I prayתְחִנָּתִיmy supplicationלְפָנֶיךָbefore youוְאַל־תְּשִׁבֵנִיand do not you make go back meבֵּיתthe house ofיְהוֹנָתָןJonathanהַסֹּפֵרthe scribeוְלֹאand notאָמוּתI shall dieשָׁם׃there

    Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

  21. 21

    וַיְצַוֶּהand commandedהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingצִדְקִיָּהוּZedekiahוַיַּפְקִדוּand they depositedאֶת־יִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahבַּחֲצַרin the courtyard ofהַמַּטָּרָהthe guardוְנָתֹןand to giveלוֹto himכִכַּר־לֶחֶםa loaf of breadלַיּוֹםfor the dayמִחוּץfrom the street ofהָאֹפִיםthe bakersעַד־תֹּםuntil the endכׇּל־הַלֶּחֶםall the breadמִן־הָעִירfrom the cityוַיֵּשֶׁבand he dweltיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahבַּחֲצַרin the courtyard ofהַמַּטָּרָה׃the guard

    Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
