   And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

   וְלֹאve/LObut notשָׁמַעsha/MAdid listenהוּאhuheוַעֲבָדָיוva/a/va/DAYVand his servantsוְעַםve/AMnor the people ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאֶל־דִּבְרֵיel-div/REto the words ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבֶּרdib/BERHe spokeבְּיַדbe/YADby the hand ofיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahהַנָּבִיא׃han/na/VIthe prophet

   But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

   And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

   וְיִרְמְיָהוּve/Yir/me/YA/hunow Jeremiahבָּאbawas comingוְיֹצֵאve/yo/TSEand goingבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוְלֹא־נָתְנוּve/LO-na/te/NUfor they had not putאֹתוֹo/TOhimבֵּיתbetin the house of[הַכְּלוּא]׃hak/ke/LUthe prison

   Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

   וְחֵילve/CHELand the army ofפַּרְעֹהPar/OPharaohיָצָאya/TSAhad come outמִמִּצְרָיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimfrom Egyptוַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand they heardהַכַּשְׂדִּיםhak/Kas/DIMthe Chaldeansהַצָּרִיםhats/tsa/RIMwho were besiegingעַל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםal-Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemאֶת־שִׁמְעָםet-shim/AMnews of themוַיֵּעָלוּvay/ye/a/LUthey withdrewמֵעַלme/ALfromיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalem

   Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּel-Yir/me/YA/huto Jeremiahהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

   כֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכֹּהkothusתֹאמְרוּto/me/RUyou shall sayאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahהַשֹּׁלֵחַhash/sho/LE/achwho sentאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouאֵלַיe/LAYto meלְדׇרְשֵׁנִיle/dor/SHE/nito inquire of meהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdחֵילchelthe army ofפַּרְעֹהPar/OPharaohהַיֹּצֵאhay/yo/TSEwhich has come outלָכֶםla/KHEMto youלְעֶזְרָהle/ez/RAto helpשָׁבshavwill returnלְאַרְצוֹle/ar/TSOto his own landמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimEgypt

   Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

8. 8

   וְשָׁבוּve/SHA/vuand will come backהַכַּשְׂדִּיםhak/Kas/DIMthe Chaldeansוְנִלְחֲמוּve/nil/cha/MUand they will fightעַל־הָעִירal-ha/IRagainst the cityהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוּלְכָדֻהָu/le/kha/DU/haand take itוּשְׂרָפֻהָu/se/ra/FU/haand burn itבָאֵשׁ׃va/ESHwith fire

   And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

   כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאַל־תַּשִּׁאוּal-tash/SHI/udo not deceiveנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶםnaf/sho/te/KHEMyourselvesלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָלֹךְha/LOKHgoיֵלְכוּyel/KHUwill go awayמֵעָלֵינוּme/a/LE/nufrom usהַכַּשְׂדִּיםhak/Kas/DIMthe Chaldeansכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notיֵלֵכוּ׃ye/LE/khuwill they go

   Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

10. 10

    כִּיkiforאִם־הִכִּיתֶםim-hik/ki/TEMeven if you struckכׇּל־חֵילkol-chelall the army ofכַּשְׂדִּיםkaS/DIMthe Chaldeansהַנִּלְחָמִיםhan/nil/cha/MIMwho fightאִתְּכֶםit/te/KHEMwith youוְנִשְׁאֲרוּ־בָםve/NISH/a/ru-vamand there remained of themאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמְדֻקָּרִיםme/duk/ka/RIMwoundedאִישׁisheachבְּאׇהֳלוֹbe/o/ho/LOin his tentיָקוּמוּya/KU/muthey would rise upוְשָׂרְפוּve/sa/re/FUand burnאֶת־הָעִירet-ha/IRthe cityהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisבָּאֵשׁ׃ba/ESHby fire

    For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it came to passבְּהֵעָלוֹתbe/he/a/LOTwhen had withdrawnחֵילchelthe army ofהַכַּשְׂדִּיםhak/Kas/DIMthe Chaldeansמֵעַלme/ALfromיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofחֵילchelthe army ofפַּרְעֹה׃Par/OPharaoh

    And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,

12. 12

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEthen went outיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahמִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalemלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goאֶרֶץE/retsto the land ofבִּנְיָמִןBin/ya/MINBenjaminלַחֲלִקla/cha/LIKto receive his shareמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMthereבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

    Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

    וַיְהִי־הוּאvay/HI-huand when he wasבְּשַׁעַרbe/SHA/arin the gate ofבִּנְיָמִןBin/ya/MINBenjaminוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereבַּעַלBA/ala captain ofפְּקִדֻתpe/ki/DUTthe guardוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his nameיִרְאִיָּיהYir/iy/YAYJeriahבֶּן־שֶׁלֶמְיָהben-She/lem/YAson of Shelemiahבֶּן־חֲנַנְיָהben-Cha/nan/YAson of Hananiahוַיִּתְפֹּשׂvay/yit/POSand he seizedאֶת־יִרְמְיָהוּet-Yir/me/YA/huJeremiahהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֶל־הַכַּשְׂדִּיםel-Hak/kas/DIMto the Chaldeansאַתָּהat/TAyou areנֹפֵל׃no/FELdeserting

    And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahשֶׁקֶרSHE/kera lieאֵינֶנִּיe/NEN/niI am notנֹפֵלno/FELdesertingעַל־הַכַּשְׂדִּיםal-Hak/kas/DIMto the Chaldeansוְלֹאve/LObut notשָׁמַעsha/MAdid he listenאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיִּתְפֹּשׂvay/yit/POSso seizedיִרְאִיָּיהYir/iy/YAYJeriahבְּיִרְמְיָהוּBe/yir/me/YA/huJeremiahוַיְבִאֵהוּvay/vi/E/huand he brought himאֶל־הַשָּׂרִים׃el-has/sa/RIMto the princes

    Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

15. 15

    וַיִּקְצְפוּvay/yik/tse/FUand they were angryהַשָּׂרִיםhas/sa/RIMthe princesעַל־יִרְמְיָהוּal-Yir/me/YA/huwith Jeremiahוְהִכּוּve/hik/KUand beatאֹתוֹo/TOhimוְנָתְנוּve/na/te/NUand putאוֹתוֹo/TOhimבֵּיתbetin the house ofהָאֵסוּרha/e/SURimprisonmentבֵּיתbetthe house ofיְהוֹנָתָןYe/ho/na/TANJonathanהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeכִּי־אֹתוֹki-o/TOfor itעָשׂוּa/SUthey had madeלְבֵיתle/VETinto the house ofהַכֶּלֶא׃hak/KE/lethe prison

    Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

16. 16

    כִּיkiwhenבָאvahad comeיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahאֶל־בֵּיתel-betinto the house ofהַבּוֹרhab/BORthe dungeonוְאֶל־הַחֲנֻיוֹתve/EL-ha/cha/nu/YOTand into the vaultsוַיֵּשֶׁב־שָׁםvay/YE/shev-shamand remained thereיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּים׃rab/BIMmany

    When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

17. 17

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHthen sentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingצִדְקִיָּהוּTsid/kiy/YA/huZedekiahוַיִּקָּחֵהוּvay/yik/ka/CHE/huand took himוַיִּשְׁאָלֵהוּvay/yish/a/LE/huand asked himהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבְּבֵיתוֹbe/ve/TOin his houseבַּסֵּתֶרbas/SE/tersecretlyוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהֲיֵשׁha/YESHis thereדָּבָרda/VARa wordמֵאֵתme/ETfromיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahיֵשׁyeshthere isוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלME/lekh-Ba/VELking of Babylonתִּנָּתֵן׃tin/na/TENyou will be given

    Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingצִדְקִיָּהוּTsid/kiy/YA/huZedekiahמֶהmewhatחָטָאתִיcha/TA/tihave I sinnedלְךָle/KHAagainst youוְלַעֲבָדֶיךָve/la/a/va/DE/khaor against your servantsוְלָעָםve/la/AMor against the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּי־נְתַתֶּםki-ne/tat/TEMthat you have putאוֹתִיo/TImeאֶל־בֵּיתel-betin the house ofהַכֶּלֶא׃hak/KE/lethe prison

    Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

19. 19

    (ואיו)vyav[וְאַיֵּה]ve/ay/YEand where areנְבִיאֵיכֶםne/vi/e/KHEMyour prophetsאֲשֶׁר־נִבְּאוּa/SHER-nib/be/Uwho prophesiedלָכֶםla/KHEMto youלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹא־יָבֹאlo-ya/VOwill not comeמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלME/lekh-Ba/VELking of Babylonעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMagainst youוְעַלve/ALand againstהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

    Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

20. 20

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowשְׁמַע־נָאshe/MA-nahear nowאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingתִּפׇּל־נָאtip/POL-nalet fall nowתְחִנָּתִיte/chin/na/TImy supplicationלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore youוְאַל־תְּשִׁבֵנִיve/AL-te/shi/VE/niand do not send me back toבֵּיתbetthe house ofיְהוֹנָתָןYe/ho/na/TANJonathanהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeוְלֹאve/LOlestאָמוּתa/MUTI dieשָׁם׃shamthere

    Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

21. 21

    וַיְצַוֶּהvay/tsav/VEand commandedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingצִדְקִיָּהוּTsid/kiy/YA/huZedekiahוַיַּפְקִדוּvay/yaf/KI/duand they committedאֶת־יִרְמְיָהוּet-Yir/me/YA/huJeremiahבַּחֲצַרba/cha/TSARin the court ofהַמַּטָּרָהham/mat/ta/RAthe guardוְנָתֹןve/na/TONand gaveלוֹloto himכִכַּר־לֶחֶםkhik/KAR-LE/chema loaf of breadלַיּוֹםlay/YOMdailyמִחוּץmi/CHUTSfrom the street ofהָאֹפִיםha/o/FIMthe bakersעַד־תֹּםad-tomuntil was used upכׇּל־הַלֶּחֶםkol-hal/LE/chemall the breadמִן־הָעִירmin-ha/IRfrom the cityוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevso remainedיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahבַּחֲצַרba/cha/TSARin the court ofהַמַּטָּרָה׃ham/mat/ta/RAthe guard

    Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
