   הַדָּבָרthe wordאֲשֶׁר־הָיָהwhich wasאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּto Jeremiahמֵאֵתfromיְהֹוָהthe LORDבִּימֵיin the days ofיְהוֹיָקִיםJehoiakimבֶּן־יֹאשִׁיָּהוּson of Josiahמֶלֶךְthe king ofיְהוּדָהJudahלֵאמֹר׃saying

   The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

   הָלוֹךְgoאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofהָרֵכָבִיםthe Rechabitesוְדִבַּרְתָּand you will speakאוֹתָםthemוַהֲבִאוֹתָםand you will bring themבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־אַחַתto oneהַלְּשָׁכוֹתthe store roomsוְהִשְׁקִיתָand you will give drink toאוֹתָםthemיָיִן׃wine

   Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

   וָאֶקַּחand I tookאֶת־יַאֲזַנְיָהJaazaniahבֶן־יִרְמְיָהוּson of Jeremiahבֶּן־חֲבַצִּנְיָהson of Habazziniahוְאֶת־אֶחָיוand his brethrenוְאֶת־כׇּל־בָּנָיוand all his sonsוְאֵתandכׇּל־בֵּיתall house ofהָרֵכָבִים׃the Rechabites

   Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

   וָאָבִאand I broughtאֹתָםthemבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־לִשְׁכַּתto the room ofבְּנֵיthe sons ofחָנָןHananבֶּן־יִגְדַּלְיָהוּson of Igdaliahאִישׁa manהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godאֲשֶׁר־אֵצֶלwhich nearלִשְׁכַּתthe room ofהַשָּׂרִיםthe princesאֲשֶׁרwhichמִמַּעַלaboveלְלִשְׁכַּתthe room ofמַעֲשֵׂיָהוּMaaseiahבֶן־שַׁלֻּםson of Shallumשֹׁמֵרwho keepsהַסַּף׃the threshold

   And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:

   וָאֶתֵּןand I gaveלִפְנֵיbeforeבְּנֵיthe sons ofבֵית־הָרֵכָבִיםhouse of the Rechabitesגְּבִעִיםbowlsמְלֵאִיםfullיַיִןwineוְכֹסוֹתand cupsוָאֹמַרand I saidאֲלֵיהֶםto themשְׁתוּ־יָיִן׃drink wine

   And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidלֹאnotנִשְׁתֶּה־יָּיִןwe will drink wineכִּיbecauseיוֹנָדָבJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבson of Rechabאָבִינוּour fatherצִוָּהcommandedעָלֵינוּover usלֵאמֹרsayingלֹאnotתִשְׁתּוּ־יַיִןyou will drink wineאַתֶּםyouוּבְנֵיכֶםand your sonsעַד־עוֹלָם׃forever

   But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

   וּבַיִתand a houseלֹא־תִבְנוּnot you shall buildוְזֶרַעand seedלֹא־תִזְרָעוּnot you shall sowוְכֶרֶםand a vineyardלֹא־תִטָּעוּnot you shall plantוְלֹאand notיִהְיֶהshall beלָכֶםto youכִּיthatבׇּאֳהָלִיםin tentsתֵּשְׁבוּyou shall dwellכׇּל־יְמֵיכֶםall your daysלְמַעַןin order thatתִּחְיוּyou may liveיָמִיםdaysרַבִּיםmanyעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהָאֲדָמָהthe landאֲשֶׁרwhichאַתֶּםyouגָּרִיםsojourningשָׁם׃there

   Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.

   וַנִּשְׁמַעand we heardבְּקוֹלthe voice ofיְהוֹנָדָבJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבson of Rechabאָבִינוּour fatherלְכֹלfor allאֲשֶׁרwhichצִוָּנוּhe commanded usלְבִלְתִּיto notשְׁתוֹת־יַיִןto drink wineכׇּל־יָמֵינוּall our daysאֲנַחְנוּweנָשֵׁינוּour wivesבָּנֵינוּour sonsוּבְנֹתֵינוּ׃and our daughters

   Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;

   וּלְבִלְתִּיand that notבְּנוֹתto buildבָּתִּיםhousesלְשִׁבְתֵּנוּfor our dwellingוְכֶרֶםand a vineyardוְשָׂדֶהand a fieldוָזֶרַעand seedלֹאnotיִהְיֶה־לָּנוּ׃shall be to us

   Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

    וַנֵּשֶׁבand we dweltבׇּאֳהָלִיםin tentsוַנִּשְׁמַעand we heardוַנַּעַשׂand we have doneכְּכֹלaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּנוּwhich he commanded usיוֹנָדָבJonadabאָבִינוּ׃our father

    But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

11. 11

    וַיְהִיand it came to passבַּעֲלוֹתin the ascending ofנְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּרNebuchadrezzarמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלking of Babylonאֶל־הָאָרֶץunto the landוַנֹּאמֶרand we saidבֹּאוּcomeוְנָבוֹאso we may goיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemמִפְּנֵיbecause ofחֵילthe army ofהַכַּשְׂדִּיםthe Chaldeansוּמִפְּנֵיand because ofחֵילthe army ofאֲרָםSyriaוַנֵּשֶׁבand we dweltבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃in Jerusalem

    But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּto Jeremiahלֵאמֹר׃saying

    Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

    כֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהָלֹךְgoוְאָמַרְתָּand sayלְאִישׁto the men ofיְהוּדָהJudahוּלְיוֹשְׁבֵיand to the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםJerusalemהֲלוֹאis it notתִקְחוּyou should takeמוּסָרdisciplineלִשְׁמֹעַto hearאֶל־דְּבָרַיto my wordsנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃says the LORD

    Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD.

    הוּקַםare performedאֶת־דִּבְרֵיthe words ofיְהוֹנָדָבJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבson of Rechabאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהwhich commandedאֶת־בָּנָיוhis sonsלְבִלְתִּיto notשְׁתוֹת־יַיִןto drink wineוְלֹאand notשָׁתוּthey have drunkעַד־הַיּוֹםeven until the dayהַזֶּהthisכִּיforשָׁמְעוּthey heardאֵת־מִצְוַתthe commandment ofאֲבִיהֶםtheir fatherוְאָנֹכִיyet IדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenאֲלֵיכֶםunto youהַשְׁכֵּםrise earlyוְדַבֵּרand speakוְלֹאand notשְׁמַעְתֶּםyou have heardאֵלָי׃unto me

    The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me.

    וָאֶשְׁלַחand I sentאֲלֵיכֶםunto youאֶת־כׇּל־עֲבָדַיall my servantsהַנְּבִאִיםthe prophetsהַשְׁכֵּםrise earlyוְשָׁלֹחַand sendingלֵאמֹרsayingשֻׁבוּ־נָאgo back I prayאִישׁa manמִדַּרְכּוֹfrom his wayהָרָעָהthe evilוְהֵיטִיבוּand make goodמַעַלְלֵיכֶםyour doingsוְאַל־תֵּלְכוּand do not you may walkאַחֲרֵיafterאֱלֹהִים־אֲחֵרִיםother godsלְעׇבְדָםto serve themוּשְׁבוּand dwellאֶל־הָאֲדָמָהto the landאֲשֶׁר־נָתַתִּיwhich I gaveלָכֶםto youוְלַאֲבֹתֵיכֶםand to your ancestorsוְלֹאand notהִטִּיתֶםyou inclinedאֶת־אׇזְנְכֶםyour earוְלֹאand notשְׁמַעְתֶּםyou have heardאֵלָי׃unto me

    I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

    כִּיforהֵקִימוּthey establishedבְּנֵיthe sons ofיְהוֹנָדָבJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבson of Rechabאֶת־מִצְוַתthe commandment ofאֲבִיהֶםtheir fatherאֲשֶׁרwhichצִוָּםcommanded themוְהָעָםand the peopleהַזֶּהthisלֹאnotשָׁמְעוּthey heardאֵלָי׃unto me

    Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:

17. 17

    לָכֵןthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofצְבָאוֹתHostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהִנְנִיbehold Iמֵבִיאbringingאֶל־יְהוּדָהto Judahוְאֶלandכׇּל־יוֹשְׁבֵיall the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemאֵת־כׇּל־הָרָעָהall the evilאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenעֲלֵיהֶםupon themיַעַןbecauseדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenאֲלֵיהֶםto themוְלֹאand notשָׁמֵעוּthey listenedוָאֶקְרָאand I calledלָהֶםto themוְלֹאand notעָנוּ׃they answered

    Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

    וּלְבֵיתand to the house ofהָרֵכָבִיםthe RechabitesאָמַרsaidיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelיַעַןbecauseאֲשֶׁרwhichשְׁמַעְתֶּםyou have heardעַל־מִצְוַתupon the commandment ofיְהוֹנָדָבJonadabאֲבִיכֶםyour fatherוַתִּשְׁמְרוּand you have keptאֶת־כׇּל־מִצְוֺתָיוall his commandmentsוַתַּעֲשׂוּand you have doneכְּכֹלaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהwhich commandedאֶתְכֶם׃you

    And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:

19. 19

    לָכֵןthereforeכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלֹא־יִכָּרֵתnot he shall be cut offאִישׁa manלְיוֹנָדָבto Jonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבson of Rechabעֹמֵדstandingלְפָנַיbefore meכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃all the days

    Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
