   The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

   הָלוֹךְha/LOKHgoאֶל־בֵּיתel-betto the house ofהָרֵכָבִיםha/Re/kha/VIMthe Rechabitesוְדִבַּרְתָּve/dib/bar/TAand speakאוֹתָםo/TAMwith themוַהֲבִאוֹתָםva/ha/vi/o/TAMand bring themבֵּיתbetto the house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־אַחַתel-a/CHATinto one ofהַלְּשָׁכוֹתhal/le/sha/KHOTthe chambersוְהִשְׁקִיתָve/hish/ki/TAand give drinkאוֹתָםo/TAMthemיָיִן׃YA/yinwine

   Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

   וָאֶקַּחva/ek/KACHand I tookאֶת־יַאֲזַנְיָהet-Ya/a/zan/YAJaazaniahבֶן־יִרְמְיָהוּven-Yir/me/YA/huson of Jeremiahבֶּן־חֲבַצִּנְיָהben-Cha/vats/tsin/YAson of Habazziniahוְאֶת־אֶחָיוve/ET-e/CHAYVand his brothersוְאֶת־כׇּל־בָּנָיוve/ET-kol-ba/NAYVand all his sonsוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־בֵּיתkol-betthe whole house ofהָרֵכָבִים׃ha/Re/kha/VIMthe Rechabites

   Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

   וָאָבִאva/a/VIand I broughtאֹתָםo/TAMthemבֵּיתbetinto the house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־לִשְׁכַּתel-lish/KATinto the chamber ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofחָנָןCha/NANHananבֶּן־יִגְדַּלְיָהוּben-Yig/dal/YA/huson of Igdaliahאִישׁishthe man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁר־אֵצֶלa/SHER-E/tselwhich was besideלִשְׁכַּתlish/KATthe chamber ofהַשָּׂרִיםhas/sa/RIMthe princesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich wasמִמַּעַלmim/MA/alaboveלְלִשְׁכַּתle/lish/KATthe chamber ofמַעֲשֵׂיָהוּMa/a/se/YA/huMaaseiahבֶן־שַׁלֻּםven-Shal/LUMson of Shallumשֹׁמֵרsho/MERthe keeper ofהַסַּף׃has/SAFthe threshold

   And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:

   וָאֶתֵּןva/et/TENand I gaveלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofבֵית־הָרֵכָבִיםvet-Ha/re/kha/VIMthe house of the Rechabitesגְּבִעִיםge/vi/IMbowlsמְלֵאִיםme/le/IMfull ofיַיִןYA/yinwineוְכֹסוֹתve/kho/SOTand cupsוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themשְׁתוּ־יָיִן׃she/TU-YA/yindrink wine

   And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלֹאlonotנִשְׁתֶּה־יָּיִןnish/TE-YA/yinwill we drink wineכִּיkiforיוֹנָדָבYo/na/DAVJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבben-Re/KHAVson of Rechabאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherצִוָּהtsiv/VAcommandedעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuusלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹאlonotתִשְׁתּוּ־יַיִןtish/TU-YA/yinshall you drink wineאַתֶּםat/TEMyouוּבְנֵיכֶםu/ve/ne/KHEMand your sonsעַד־עוֹלָם׃ad-o/LAMforever

   But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

   וּבַיִתu/VA/yitand a houseלֹא־תִבְנוּlo-tiv/NUyou shall not buildוְזֶרַעve/ZE/raand seedלֹא־תִזְרָעוּlo-tiz/RA/uyou shall not sowוְכֶרֶםve/KHE/remand a vineyardלֹא־תִטָּעוּlo-tit/TA/uyou shall not plantוְלֹאve/LOnorיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beלָכֶםla/KHEMyoursכִּיkibutבׇּאֳהָלִיםbo/o/ha/LIMin tentsתֵּשְׁבוּtesh/VUyou shall dwellכׇּל־יְמֵיכֶםkol-ye/me/KHEMall your daysלְמַעַןle/MA/anin order thatתִּחְיוּtich/YUyou may liveיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the face ofהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאַתֶּםat/TEMyouגָּרִיםga/RIMsojournשָׁם׃shamthere

   Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.

   וַנִּשְׁמַעvan/nish/MAand we have obeyedבְּקוֹלbe/KOLthe voice ofיְהוֹנָדָבYe/ho/na/DAVJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבben-Re/KHAVson of Rechabאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherלְכֹלle/KHOLin allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצִוָּנוּtsiv/VA/nuhe commanded usלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TInot toשְׁתוֹת־יַיִןshe/TOT-YA/yinto drink wineכׇּל־יָמֵינוּkol-ya/ME/nuall our daysאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweנָשֵׁינוּna/SHE/nuour wivesבָּנֵינוּba/NE/nuour sonsוּבְנֹתֵינוּ׃u/ve/no/TE/nuand our daughters

   Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;

   וּלְבִלְתִּיu/le/vil/TIand not toבְּנוֹתbe/NOTbuildבָּתִּיםbat/TIMhousesלְשִׁבְתֵּנוּle/shiv/TE/nuto dwell inוְכֶרֶםve/KHE/remand a vineyardוְשָׂדֶהve/sa/DEand a fieldוָזֶרַעva/ZE/raand seedלֹאlonotיִהְיֶה־לָּנוּ׃yih/YE-LA/nudo we have

   Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

    וַנֵּשֶׁבvan/NE/shevbut we have dweltבׇּאֳהָלִיםbo/o/ha/LIMin tentsוַנִּשְׁמַעvan/nish/MAand have obeyedוַנַּעַשׂvan/NA/asand doneכְּכֹלke/KHOLaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּנוּa/SHER-tsiv/VA/nuwhich he commanded usיוֹנָדָבYo/na/DAVJonadabאָבִינוּ׃a/VI/nuour father

    But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIbut it came to passבַּעֲלוֹתba/a/LOTwhen came upנְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּרNe/vu/khad/re/TSARNebuchadrezzarמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלME/lekh-Ba/VELking of Babylonאֶל־הָאָרֶץel-ha/A/retsinto the landוַנֹּאמֶרvan/NO/merand we saidבֹּאוּBO/ucomeוְנָבוֹאve/na/VOand let us go toיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofחֵילchelthe army ofהַכַּשְׂדִּיםhak/Kas/DIMthe Chaldeansוּמִפְּנֵיu/mip/pe/NEand because ofחֵילchelthe army ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַנֵּשֶׁבvan/NE/shevso we dwellבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃bI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalem

    But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּel-Yir/me/YA/huto Jeremiahלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

    כֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהָלֹךְha/LOKHgoוְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayלְאִישׁle/ISHto the men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוּלְיוֹשְׁבֵיu/le/yosh/VEand to the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemהֲלוֹאha/LOwill you notתִקְחוּtik/CHUreceiveמוּסָרmu/SARinstructionלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato listenאֶל־דְּבָרַיel-de/va/RAYto my wordsנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD.

    The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me.

    וָאֶשְׁלַחva/esh/LACHand I sentאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youאֶת־כׇּל־עֲבָדַיet-kol-a/va/DAYall my servantsהַנְּבִאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsהַשְׁכֵּםhash/KEMrising earlyוְשָׁלֹחַve/sha/LO/achand sending themלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשֻׁבוּ־נָאSHU/vu-naturn nowאִישׁisheachמִדַּרְכּוֹmid/dar/KOfrom his wayהָרָעָהha/ra/Aevilוְהֵיטִיבוּve/he/TI/vuand amendמַעַלְלֵיכֶםma/al/le/KHEMyour deedsוְאַל־תֵּלְכוּve/AL-tel/KHUand do not goאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֱלֹהִים־אֲחֵרִיםe/lo/HIM-a/che/RIMother godsלְעׇבְדָםle/ov/DAMto serve themוּשְׁבוּu/she/VUand dwellאֶל־הָאֲדָמָהel-ha/a/da/MAin the landאֲשֶׁר־נָתַתִּיa/SHER-na/TAT/tiwhich I gaveלָכֶםla/KHEMto youוְלַאֲבֹתֵיכֶםve/la/a/vo/te/KHEMand to your fathersוְלֹאve/LObut notהִטִּיתֶםhit/ti/TEMhave you inclinedאֶת־אׇזְנְכֶםet-oz/ne/KHEMyour earוְלֹאve/LOnorשְׁמַעְתֶּםshe/ma/TEMlistenedאֵלָי׃e/LAYto me

    I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

    כִּיkiforהֵקִימוּhe/KI/muhave keptבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofיְהוֹנָדָבYe/ho/na/DAVJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבben-Re/KHAVson of Rechabאֶת־מִצְוַתet-mits/VATthe commandment ofאֲבִיהֶםa/vi/HEMtheir fatherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצִוָּםtsiv/VAMhe commanded themוְהָעָםve/ha/AMand the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלֹאlonotשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uhave obeyedאֵלָי׃e/LAYto me

    Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEGodצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iמֵבִיאme/VIwill bringאֶל־יְהוּדָהel-Ye/hu/DAon Judahוְאֶלve/ELand onכׇּל־יוֹשְׁבֵיkol-YOSH/veall the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemאֵת־כׇּל־הָרָעָהet-kol-ha/ra/Aall the evilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI have pronouncedעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMagainst themיַעַןYA/anbecauseדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI have spokenאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themוְלֹאve/LObut notשָׁמֵעוּsha/ME/uhave they listenedוָאֶקְרָאva/ek/RAand I calledלָהֶםla/HEMto themוְלֹאve/LObut notעָנוּ׃a/NUhave they answered

    Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

    וּלְבֵיתu/le/VETand to the house ofהָרֵכָבִיםha/Re/kha/VIMthe Rechabitesאָמַרa/MARsaidיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelיַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשְׁמַעְתֶּםshe/ma/TEMyou have obeyedעַל־מִצְוַתal-mits/VATthe commandment ofיְהוֹנָדָבYe/ho/na/DAVJonadabאֲבִיכֶםa/vi/KHEMyour fatherוַתִּשְׁמְרוּvat/tish/me/RUand keptאֶת־כׇּל־מִצְוֺתָיוet-kol-mits/vo/TAYVall his commandmentsוַתַּעֲשׂוּvat/ta/a/SUand doneכְּכֹלke/KHOLaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהa/SHER-tsiv/VAthat he commandedאֶתְכֶם׃et/KHEMyou

    And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:

19. 19

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֹא־יִכָּרֵתlo-yik/ka/RETwill not lackאִישׁisha manלְיוֹנָדָבLe/yo/na/DAVJonadabבֶּן־רֵכָבben-Re/KHAVson of Rechabעֹמֵדo/MEDto standלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃kol-hay/ya/MIMall the days

    Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
