   Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

   (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

   By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

   כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלְכׇל־הַגּוֹלָהle/KHOL-hag/go/LAto all the exilesאֲשֶׁר־הִגְלֵיתִיa/SHER-hig/LE/tiwhom I have carried captiveמִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalemבָּבֶלָה׃ba/VE/lato Babylon

   Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

   בְּנוּbe/NUbuildבָתִּיםvat/TIMhousesוְשֵׁבוּve/SHE/vuand dwellוְנִטְעוּve/nit/Uand plantגַנּוֹתgan/NOTgardensוְאִכְלוּve/ikh/LUand eatאֶת־פִּרְיָן׃et-pir/YANtheir fruit

   Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

   קְחוּke/CHUtakeנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwivesוְהוֹלִידוּve/ho/LI/duand begetבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹתu/va/NOTand daughtersוּקְחוּu/ke/CHUand takeלִבְנֵיכֶםliv/ne/KHEMyour sonsנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwivesוְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיכֶםve/ET-be/no/te/KHEMand your daughtersתְּנוּte/NUgiveלַאֲנָשִׁיםla/a/na/SHIMto husbandsוְתֵלַדְנָהve/te/LAD/nathat they may bearבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹתu/va/NOTand daughtersוּרְבוּ־שָׁםu/re/VU-shamand multiply thereוְאַל־תִּמְעָטוּ׃ve/AL-tim/A/tuand do not decrease

   Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

   וְדִרְשׁוּve/dir/SHUand seekאֶת־שְׁלוֹםet-she/LOMthe peace ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereהִגְלֵיתִיhig/LE/tiI have carried captiveאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereוְהִתְפַּלְלוּve/hit/pal/LUand prayבַעֲדָהּva/a/DAfor itאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDכִּיkiforבִשְׁלוֹמָהּvish/lo/MAin its peaceיִהְיֶהyih/YEyou will haveלָכֶםla/KHEMto youשָׁלוֹם׃sha/LOMpeace

   And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

   For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

   For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

    כִּי־כֹהki-khofor thusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDכִּיkithatלְפִיle/FIwhenמְלֹאתme/LOTare completedלְבָבֶלle/Va/VELfor Babylonשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsאֶפְקֹדef/KODI will visitאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouוַהֲקִמֹתִיva/ha/ki/mo/TIand fulfillעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youאֶת־דְּבָרִיet-de/va/RImy wordהַטּוֹבhat/TOVthe goodלְהָשִׁיבle/ha/SHIVto bring backאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMto the placeהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

    כִּיkiforאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiknowאֶת־הַמַּחֲשָׁבֹתet-ham/ma/cha/sha/VOTthe plansאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIחֹשֵׁבcho/SHEVam planningעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMfor youנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDמַחְשְׁבוֹתmach/she/VOTplans ofשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceוְלֹאve/LOand notלְרָעָהle/ra/Afor evilלָתֵתla/TETto giveלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאַחֲרִיתa/cha/RITa futureוְתִקְוָה׃ve/tik/VAand hope

    For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

    וּקְרָאתֶםu/ke/ra/TEMthen you will callאֹתִיo/TImeוַהֲלַכְתֶּםva/ha/lakh/TEMand comeוְהִתְפַּלַּלְתֶּםve/hit/pal/lal/TEMand prayאֵלָיe/LAYto meוְשָׁמַעְתִּיve/sha/ma/TIand I will listenאֲלֵיכֶם׃a/le/KHEMto you

    Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13. 13

    וּבִקַּשְׁתֶּםu/vik/kash/TEMand you will seekאֹתִיo/TImeוּמְצָאתֶםu/me/tsa/TEMand find meכִּיkiwhenתִדְרְשֻׁנִיtid/re/SHU/niyou seek meבְּכׇל־לְבַבְכֶם׃be/KHOL-le/vav/KHEMwith all your heart

    And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

14. 14

    וְנִמְצֵאתִיve/nim/TSE/tiand I will be foundלָכֶםla/KHEMby youנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDוְשַׁבְתִּיve/shav/TIand I will turn backאֶת־[שְׁבוּתְכֶם]et-she/vut/KHEMyour captivityוְקִבַּצְתִּיve/kib/bats/TIand I will gatherאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמִכׇּל־הַגּוֹיִםmik/KOL-hag/go/YIMfrom all the nationsוּמִכׇּל־הַמְּקוֹמוֹתu/mik/KOL-ham/me/ko/MOTand from all the placesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereהִדַּחְתִּיhid/DACH/tiI have drivenאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouשָׁםshamthereנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDוַהֲשִׁבֹתִיva/ha/shi/vo/TIand I will bring backאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMto the placeאֲשֶׁר־הִגְלֵיתִיa/SHER-hig/LE/tifrom which I carried captiveאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמִשָּׁם׃mish/SHAMfrom there

    And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

    כִּיkibecauseאֲמַרְתֶּםa/mar/TEMyou have saidהֵקִיםhe/KIMhas raised upלָנוּLA/nufor usיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDנְבִאִיםne/vi/IMprophetsבָּבֶלָה׃ba/VE/lain Babylon

    Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

16. 16

    כִּי־כֹהki-khofor thusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhconcerning the kingהַיּוֹשֵׁבhay/yo/SHEVwho sitsאֶל־כִּסֵּאel-kis/SEon the throne ofדָוִדDa/VIDDavidוְאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָםve/EL-kol-ha/AMand concerning all the peopleהַיּוֹשֵׁבhay/yo/SHEVwho dwellבָּעִירba/IRin the cityהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֲחֵיכֶםa/che/KHEMyour brothersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־יָצְאוּlo-ya/tse/Udid not go outאִתְּכֶםit/te/KHEMwith youבַּגּוֹלָה׃bag/go/LAinto captivity

    Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

    כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iמְשַׁלֵּחַme/shal/LE/achwill sendבָּםbamon themאֶת־הַחֶרֶבet-ha/CHE/revthe swordאֶת־הָרָעָבet-ha/ra/AVthe famineוְאֶת־הַדָּבֶרve/ET-had/DA/verand the pestilenceוְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TIand I will makeאוֹתָםo/TAMthemכַּתְּאֵנִיםkat/te/e/NIMlike the figsהַשֹּׁעָרִיםhash/sho/a/RIMrottenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֹא־תֵאָכַלְנָהlo-te/a/KHAL/nacannot be eatenמֵרֹעַ׃me/RO/afor badness

    Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

    וְרָדַפְתִּיve/ra/daf/TIand I will pursueאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revwith the swordבָּרָעָבba/ra/AVwith the famineוּבַדָּבֶרu/vad/DA/verand by the pestilenceוּנְתַתִּיםu/ne/tat/TIMand I will give them(לזועה)lazavh[לְזַעֲוָה]le/za/a/VAa horrorלְכֹלle/KHOLto allמַמְלְכוֹתmam/le/KHOTthe kingdoms ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe earthלְאָלָהle/a/LAa curseוּלְשַׁמָּהu/le/sham/MAand a horrorוְלִשְׁרֵקָהve/lish/re/KAand a hissingוּלְחֶרְפָּהu/le/cher/PAand a reproachבְּכׇל־הַגּוֹיִםbe/KHOL-hag/go/YIMin all the nationsאֲשֶׁר־הִדַּחְתִּיםa/SHER-hid/dach/TIMwhere I have driven themשָׁם׃shamthere

    And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

19. 19

    תַּחַתTA/chatbecauseאֲשֶׁר־לֹא־שָׁמְעוּa/SHER-lo-sha/me/Uthey have not listenedאֶל־דְּבָרַיel-de/va/RAYto my wordsנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichשָׁלַחְתִּיsha/LACH/tiI sentאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themאֶת־עֲבָדַיet-a/va/DAYby my servantsהַנְּבִאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsהַשְׁכֵּםhash/KEMrising earlyוְשָׁלֹחַve/sha/LO/achand sendingוְלֹאve/LObut notשְׁמַעְתֶּםshe/ma/TEMdid you listenנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

    וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youשִׁמְעוּshim/Uhearדְבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDכׇּל־הַגּוֹלָהkol-hag/go/LAall you exilesאֲשֶׁר־שִׁלַּחְתִּיa/SHER-shil/LACH/tiwhom I have sentמִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalemבָּבֶלָה׃ba/VE/lainto Babylon

    Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

    כֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶל־אַחְאָבel-Ach/AVconcerning Ahabבֶּן־קוֹלָיָהben-Ko/la/YAson of Kolaiahוְאֶל־צִדְקִיָּהוּve/EL-tsid/kiy/YA/huand concerning Zedekiahבֶן־מַעֲשֵׂיָהven-Ma/a/se/YAson of Maaseiahהַנִּבְּאִיםhan/nib/be/IMwho prophesyלָכֶםla/KHEMto youבִּשְׁמִיbish/MIin my nameשָׁקֶרSHA/kera lieהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iנֹתֵןno/TENwill deliverאֹתָםo/TAMthemבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofנְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּרNe/vu/khad/re/TSARNebuchadrezzarמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלME/lekh-Ba/VELking of Babylonוְהִכָּםve/hik/KAMand he will strike themלְעֵינֵיכֶם׃le/e/ne/KHEMbefore your eyes

    Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

    וְלֻקַּחve/luk/KACHand will be takenמֵהֶםme/HEMof themקְלָלָהke/la/LAa curseלְכֹלle/KHOLby allגָּלוּתga/LUTthe exiles ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho areבְּבָבֶלbe/Va/VELin Babylonלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingיְשִׂמְךָye/sim/KHAmay make youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDכְּצִדְקִיָּהוּke/Tsid/kiy/YA/hulike Zedekiahוּכְאֶחָבu/Khe/e/CHAVand like Ahabאֲשֶׁר־קָלָםa/SHER-ka/LAMwhom roastedמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלME/lekh-Ba/VELking of Babylonבָּאֵשׁ׃ba/ESHby fire

    And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

    יַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשׂוּa/SUthey have doneנְבָלָהne/va/LAfollyבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelוַיְנַאֲפוּvay/na/a/FUand they committed adulteryאֶת־נְשֵׁיet-ne/SHEwith the wives ofרֵעֵיהֶםre/e/HEMtheir neighborsוַיְדַבְּרוּvay/dab/be/RUand have spokenדָבָרda/VARwordsבִּשְׁמִיbish/MIin my nameשֶׁקֶרSHE/kerlyingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלוֹאlonotצִוִּיתִםtsiv/vi/TIMI commanded themוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIyet I[הַיּוֹדֵעַ]hay/yo/DE/aam he who knowsוָעֵדva/EDand a witnessנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.

    וְאֶל־שְׁמַעְיָהוּve/EL-she/ma/YA/huand to Shemaiahהַנֶּחֱלָמִיhan/Ne/che/la/MIthe Nehelamiteתֹּאמַרto/MARyou shall speakלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

    Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

    The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלָמָּהLAM/mawhyלֹאlonotגָעַרְתָּga/AR/tahave you rebukedבְּיִרְמְיָהוּBe/yir/me/YA/huJeremiahהָעַנְּתֹתִיha/An/ne/to/TIthe Anathothiteהַמִּתְנַבֵּאham/mit/nab/BEwho prophesiesלָכֶם׃la/KHEMto you

    Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

    כִּיkiforעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeשָׁלַחsha/LACHhe has sentאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuto usבָּבֶלba/VELin Babylonלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֲרֻכָּהa/ruk/KAit is longהִיאhiitבְּנוּbe/NUbuildבָתִּיםvat/TIMhousesוְשֵׁבוּve/SHE/vuand dwellוְנִטְעוּve/nit/Uand plantגַנּוֹתgan/NOTgardensוְאִכְלוּve/ikh/LUand eatאֶת־פְּרִיהֶן׃et-pe/ri/HENtheir fruit

    For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand readצְפַנְיָהTse/fan/YAZephaniahהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestאֶת־הַסֵּפֶרet-has/SE/ferthe letterהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבְּאׇזְנֵיbe/oz/NEin the ears ofיִרְמְיָהוּYir/me/YA/huJeremiahהַנָּבִיא׃han/na/VIthe prophet

    And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּel-Yir/me/YA/huto Jeremiahלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

    שְׁלַחshe/LACHsendעַל־כׇּל־הַגּוֹלָהal-kol-hag/go/LAto all the exilesלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־שְׁמַעְיָהel-She/ma/YAconcerning Shemaiahהַנֶּחֱלָמִיhan/Ne/che/la/MIthe NehelamiteיַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנִבָּאnib/BAhas prophesiedלָכֶםla/KHEMto youשְׁמַעְיָהShe/ma/YAShemaiahוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iלֹאlonotשְׁלַחְתִּיוshe/lach/TIVdid send himוַיַּבְטַחvay/yav/TACHand he has made trustאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouעַל־שָׁקֶר׃al-SHA/kerin a lie

    Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iפֹקֵדfo/KEDwill punishעַל־שְׁמַעְיָהal-She/ma/YAShemaiahהַנֶּחֱלָמִיhan/Ne/che/la/MIthe Nehelamiteוְעַל־זַרְעוֹve/AL-zar/Oand his seedלֹא־יִהְיֶהlo-yih/YEhe will not haveלוֹlohimאִישׁisha manיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVdwellingבְּתוֹךְ־הָעָםbe/TOKH-ha/AMamong the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְלֹא־יִרְאֶהve/LO-yir/Enor will he seeבַטּוֹבvat/TOVthe goodאֲשֶׁר־אֲנִיa/SHER-a/NIthat Iעֹשֶׂה־לְעַמִּיo/SE-le/am/MIwill do for my peopleנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDכִּי־סָרָהki-sa/RAbecause rebellionדִבֶּרdib/BERhe has utteredעַל־יְהֹוָה׃al-Adonaiagainst the LORD

    Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
