   בְּרֵאשִׁיתin the beginning ofמַמְלְכוּתthe reign ofיְהוֹיָקִיםJehoiakimבֶּן־יֹאשִׁיָּהוּson of Josiahמֶלֶךְthe king ofיְהוּדָהJudahהָיָהcameהַדָּבָרthe wordהַזֶּהthisמֵאֵתfromיְהֹוָהthe LORDלֵאמֹר׃saying

   In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,

   כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעֲמֹדstandבַּחֲצַרin the courtyard ofבֵּית־יְהֹוָהin the LORD's houseוְדִבַּרְתָּand you will speakעַל־כׇּל־עָרֵיto all the cities ofיְהוּדָהJudahהַבָּאִיםwhich comeלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺתto worshipבֵּית־יְהֹוָהin the LORD's houseאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall the wordsאֲשֶׁרwhichצִוִּיתִיךָI commanded youלְדַבֵּרto speakאֲלֵיהֶםto themאַל־תִּגְרַעleave outדָּבָר׃nothing

   Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD's house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD's house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:

   אוּלַיperhapsיִשְׁמְעוּthey hearkenוְיָשֻׁבוּso they may turn backאִישׁevery manמִדַּרְכּוֹfrom his wayהָרָעָהthe evilוְנִחַמְתִּיthat I may relentאֶל־הָרָעָהof the evilאֲשֶׁרwhichאָנֹכִיIחֹשֵׁבpurposeלַעֲשׂוֹתto doלָהֶםto themמִפְּנֵיbecause ofרֹעַthe wickedness ofמַעַלְלֵיהֶם׃their doings

   If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

   וְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֲלֵיהֶםto themכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאִם־לֹאif notתִשְׁמְעוּyou hearkenאֵלַיto meלָלֶכֶתto goבְּתוֹרָתִיin my lawאֲשֶׁרwhichנָתַתִּיI have setלִפְנֵיכֶם׃before you

   And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

   לִשְׁמֹעַto hearעַל־דִּבְרֵיto the words ofעֲבָדַיmy servantsהַנְּבִאִיםthe prophetsאֲשֶׁרwhichאָנֹכִיIשֹׁלֵחַsendאֲלֵיכֶםunto youוְהַשְׁכֵּםsending from morningוְשָׁלֹחַto nightוְלֹאand notשְׁמַעְתֶּם׃have you hearkened

   To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;

   וְנָתַתִּיthen will I makeאֶת־הַבַּיִתthe houseהַזֶּהthisכְּשִׁלֹהlike Shilohוְאֶת־הָעִירand the city[הַזֹּאת]thisאֶתֵּןwill makeלִקְלָלָהa curseלְכֹלfor allגּוֹיֵthe nations ofהָאָרֶץ׃the earth

   Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

   וַיִּשְׁמְעוּand heardהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsוְהַנְּבִאִיםand the prophetsוְכׇל־הָעָםand all the peopleאֶת־יִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahמְדַבֵּרas he spokeאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseבְּבֵיתin the house ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.

8. 8

   וַיְהִיand it came to passכְּכַלּוֹתwhen had made an endיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahלְדַבֵּרto speakאֵת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהall that had commandedיְהֹוָהthe LORDלְדַבֵּרto speakאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָםto all the peopleוַיִּתְפְּשׂוּtook hold ofאֹתוֹhimהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsוְהַנְּבִיאִיםand the prophetsוְכׇל־הָעָםand all the peopleלֵאמֹרsayingמוֹתsurelyתָּמוּת׃you shall die

   Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

   מַדּוּעַwhyנִבֵּיתָhave you prophesiedבְשֵׁם־יְהֹוָהin the name of the LORDלֵאמֹרsayingכְּשִׁלוֹlike Shilohיִהְיֶהshall beהַבַּיִתthe houseהַזֶּהthisוְהָעִירand the cityהַזֹּאתthisתֶּחֱרַבshall be desolateמֵאֵיןwithoutיוֹשֵׁבinhabitantוַיִּקָּהֵלand were gatheredכׇּל־הָעָםall the peopleאֶל־יִרְמְיָהוּagainst Jeremiahבְּבֵיתin the house ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

10. 10

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּand they heardשָׂרֵיthe princes ofיְהוּדָהJudahאֵת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיַּעֲלוּthen they came upמִבֵּית־הַמֶּלֶךְfrom the house of the kingבֵּיתunto the house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיֵּשְׁבוּand sat downבְּפֶתַחat the entrance ofשַׁעַר־יְהֹוָהthe gate of the LORD's houseהֶחָדָשׁ׃the new

    When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king's house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house.

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand saidהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsוְהַנְּבִאִיםand the prophetsאֶל־הַשָּׂרִיםto the princesוְאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָםand all the peopleלֵאמֹרsayingמִשְׁפַּט־מָוֶתis worthy to dieלָאִישׁthis manהַזֶּהthisכִּיforנִבָּאhe has prophesiedאֶל־הָעִירagainst cityהַזֹּאתthisכַּאֲשֶׁרasשְׁמַעְתֶּםyou have heardבְּאׇזְנֵיכֶם׃in your ears

    Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיִרְמְיָהוּJeremiahאֶל־כׇּל־הַשָּׂרִיםto all the princesוְאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָםand all the peopleלֵאמֹרsayingיְהֹוָהthe LORDשְׁלָחַנִיsent meלְהִנָּבֵאto prophesyאֶל־הַבַּיִתagainst houseהַזֶּהthisוְאֶל־הָעִירand against cityהַזֹּאתthisאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall the wordsאֲשֶׁרwhichשְׁמַעְתֶּם׃you have heard

    Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

13. 13

    וְעַתָּהand nowהֵיטִיבוּamendדַרְכֵיכֶםyour waysוּמַעַלְלֵיכֶםand your doingsוְשִׁמְעוּand obeyבְּקוֹלthe voice ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godוְיִנָּחֵםand will relentיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־הָרָעָהof the evilאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבֶּרhe has pronouncedעֲלֵיכֶם׃against you

    Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

14. 14

    וַאֲנִיand Iהִנְנִיbehold Iבְיֶדְכֶםin your handעֲשׂוּ־לִיdo to meכַּטּוֹבas seems goodוְכַיָּשָׁרand properבְּעֵינֵיכֶם׃in your eyes

    As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.

15. 15

    אַךְbutיָדֹעַfor certainתֵּדְעוּknowכִּיbecauseאִם־מְמִתִיםif put to deathאַתֶּםyou areאֹתִיmeכִּי־דָםbecause bloodנָקִיinnocentאַתֶּםyou areנֹתְנִיםyou shall surely bringעֲלֵיכֶםto youוְאֶל־הָעִירand upon cityהַזֹּאתthisוְאֶל־יֹשְׁבֶיהָand its inhabitantsכִּיbecauseבֶאֱמֶתin truthשְׁלָחַנִיsent meיְהֹוָהthe LORDעֲלֵיכֶםto youלְדַבֵּרto speakבְּאׇזְנֵיכֶםin your earsאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall the wordsהָאֵלֶּה׃these

    But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidהַשָּׂרִיםthe princesוְכׇל־הָעָםand all the peopleאֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִיםto the priestsוְאֶל־הַנְּבִיאִיםand the prophetsאֵין־לָאִישׁthis man is notהַזֶּהthisמִשְׁפַּט־מָוֶתworthy to dieכִּיforבְּשֵׁםin the name ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godדִּבֶּרhe has spokenאֵלֵינוּ׃unto us

    Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

17. 17

    וַיָּקֻמוּand they rose upאֲנָשִׁיםcertainמִזִּקְנֵיof the elders ofהָאָרֶץthe landוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֶל־כׇּל־קְהַלto all assembly ofהָעָםthe peopleלֵאמֹר׃saying

    Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

18. 18

    (מיכיה)[מִיכָה]Micahהַמּוֹרַשְׁתִּיthe Morasthiteהָיָהprophesiedנִבָּאprophesiedבִּימֵיin the days ofחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָהking of Judahוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־כׇּל־עַםto all the people ofיְהוּדָהJudahלֵאמֹרsayingכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof HostsצִיּוֹןZionשָׂדֶהlike a fieldתֵחָרֵשׁshall be plowedוִירוּשָׁלַיִםand Jerusalemעִיִּיםheapsתִּהְיֶהshall beוְהַרand the mountain ofהַבַּיִתthe houseלְבָמוֹתas the high places ofיָעַר׃the forest

    Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

19. 19

    הֶהָמֵתdid put to deathהֱמִתֻהוּhimחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָהking of Judahוְכׇל־יְהוּדָהand all Judahהֲלֹאis it notיָרֵאdid he fearאֶת־יְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיְחַלand beseechאֶת־פְּנֵיthe face ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיִּנָּחֶםand repentedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶל־הָרָעָהof the evilאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרwhich spokeעֲלֵיהֶםupon themוַאֲנַחְנוּand we areעֹשִׂיםshall we bringרָעָהevilגְדוֹלָהgreatעַל־נַפְשׁוֹתֵינוּ׃upon our souls

    Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.

20. 20

    וְגַם־אִישׁand there was also a manהָיָהwasמִתְנַבֵּאthat prophesiedבְּשֵׁםin the name ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאוּרִיָּהוּUriahבֶּן־שְׁמַעְיָהוּson of Shemaiahמִקִּרְיַתof Kirjath-הַיְּעָרִיםjearimוַיִּנָּבֵאwho prophesiedעַל־הָעִירagainst cityהַזֹּאתthisוְעַל־הָאָרֶץand against landהַזֹּאתthisכְּכֹלaccording to allדִּבְרֵיthe words ofיִרְמְיָהוּ׃Jeremiah

    And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

21. 21

    וַיִּשְׁמַעand heardהַמֶּלֶךְ־יְהוֹיָקִיםthe king Jehoiakimוְכׇל־גִּבּוֹרָיוwith all his mighty menוְכׇל־הַשָּׂרִיםand all the princesאֶת־דְּבָרָיוhis wordsוַיְבַקֵּשׁsoughtהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingהֲמִיתוֹto put him to deathוַיִּשְׁמַעand he heardאוּרִיָּהוּUriahוַיִּרָאhe was afraidוַיִּבְרַחand he fledוַיָּבֹאand went intoמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;

22. 22

    וַיִּשְׁלַחand sentהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingיְהוֹיָקִיםJehoiakimאֲנָשִׁיםmenמִצְרָיִםto Egyptאֵת־אֶלְנָתָןElnathanבֶּן־עַכְבּוֹרson of Achborוַאֲנָשִׁיםand menאִתּוֹwith himאֶל־מִצְרָיִם׃to Egypt

    And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.

23. 23

    וַיּוֹצִיאוּand they brought outאֶת־אוּרִיָּהוּUriahמִמִּצְרַיִםout of Egyptוַיְבִאֻהוּand brought himאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְunto the kingיְהוֹיָקִיםJehoiakimוַיַּכֵּהוּwho slew himבֶּחָרֶבby the swordוַיַּשְׁלֵךְand he castאֶת־נִבְלָתוֹhis dead bodyאֶל־קִבְרֵיto the graves ofבְּנֵיthe commonהָעָם׃people

    And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

24. 24

    אַךְneverthelessיַדthe hand ofאֲחִיקָםAhikamבֶּן־שָׁפָןson of Shaphanהָיְתָהwasאֶת־יִרְמְיָהוּwith Jeremiahלְבִלְתִּיto notתֵּת־אֹתוֹgive himבְיַד־הָעָםby the hand of the peopleלַהֲמִיתוֹ׃to put him to death

    Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
