   The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.

   אָבְלָהa/ve/LAmournsיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוּשְׁעָרֶיהָu/she/a/RE/haand its gatesאֻמְלְלוּum/le/LUlanguishקָדְרוּka/de/RUthey mournלָאָרֶץla/A/retson the groundוְצִוְחַתve/tsiv/CHATand the cry ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemעָלָתָה׃a/LA/tahas gone up

   Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

   וְאַדִּרֵיהֶםve/ad/di/re/HEMand their noble onesשָׁלְחוּsha/le/CHUsend[צְעִירֵיהֶם]tse/i/re/HEMtheir little onesלַמָּיִםlam/MA/yimto the watersבָּאוּBA/uthey comeעַל־גֵּבִיםal-ge/VIMto the cisternsלֹא־מָצְאוּlo-ma/tse/Uthey find noמַיִםMA/yimwaterשָׁבוּSHA/vuthey return withכְלֵיהֶםkhe/le/HEMtheir vesselsרֵיקָםre/KAMemptyבֹּשׁוּBO/shuthey are ashamedוְהׇכְלְמוּve/hokh/le/MUand humiliatedוְחָפוּve/cha/FUand they have coveredרֹאשָׁם׃ro/SHAMtheir heads

   And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

   Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

   כִּיkiforגַם־אַיֶּלֶתgam-ay/YE/leteven the doeבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldיָלְדָהya/le/DAgives birthוְעָזוֹבve/a/ZOVand forsakesכִּיkiforלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAthere is noדֶּשֶׁא׃DE/shegrass

   Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

   וּפְרָאִיםu/fe/ra/IMand the wild donkeysעָמְדוּa/me/DUstandעַל־שְׁפָיִםal-she/FA/yimon the bare heightsשָׁאֲפוּsha/a/FUthey pant forרוּחַRU/achthe windכַּתַּנִּיםkat/tan/NIMlike jackalsכָּלוּka/LUfailעֵינֵיהֶםe/ne/HEMtheir eyesכִּי־אֵיןki-enfor there is noעֵשֶׂב׃E/sevgrass

   And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

   אִם־עֲוֺנֵינוּim-a/vo/NE/nuthough our iniquitiesעָנוּa/NUtestifyבָנוּVA/nuagainst usיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDעֲשֵׂהa/SEactלְמַעַןle/MA/anfor the sake ofשְׁמֶךָshe/ME/khaYour nameכִּי־רַבּוּki-rab/BUfor are manyמְשׁוּבֹתֵינוּme/shu/vo/TE/nuour backslidingsלְךָle/KHAagainst Youחָטָאנוּ׃cha/TA/nuwe have sinned

   O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.

   מִקְוֵהMik/VEO Hope ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמוֹשִׁיעוֹMo/shi/Oits Saviorבְּעֵתbe/ETin the time ofצָרָהtsa/RAtroubleלָמָּהLAM/mawhyתִהְיֶהtih/YEshould You beכְּגֵרke/GERlike a strangerבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landוּכְאֹרֵחַu/khe/o/RE/achand like a wayfarerנָטָהna/TAthat turns asideלָלוּן׃la/LUNto lodge

   O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

   לָמָּהLAM/mawhyתִהְיֶהtih/YEshould You beכְּאִישׁke/ISHas a manנִדְהָםnid/HAMdismayedכְּגִבּוֹרke/gib/BORas a mighty manלֹא־יוּכַלlo-yu/KHALwho cannotלְהוֹשִׁיעַle/ho/SHI/ato saveוְאַתָּהve/at/TAyet Youבְקִרְבֵּנוּve/kir/BE/nuare in our midstיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDוְשִׁמְךָve/shim/KHAand Your nameעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuover usנִקְרָאnik/RAis calledאַל־תַּנִּחֵנוּ׃al-tan/ni/CHE/nuleave us not

   Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.

    כֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָעָםla/AMto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכֵּןkenthusאָהֲבוּA/ha/vuhave they lovedלָנוּעַla/NU/ato wanderרַגְלֵיהֶםrag/le/HEMtheir feetלֹאlonotחָשָׂכוּcha/SA/khuhave they restrainedוַיהֹוָהve-Adonaiand the LORDלֹאlonotרָצָםra/TSAMaccept themעַתָּהat/TAnowיִזְכֹּרyiz/KORHe will rememberעֲוֺנָםa/vo/NAMtheir iniquityוְיִפְקֹדve/yif/KODand punishחַטֹּאתָם׃chat/to/TAMtheir sins

    Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֵלָיe/LAYto meאַל־תִּתְפַּלֵּלal-tit/pal/LELdo not prayבְּעַד־הָעָםbe/AD-ha/AMon behalf of the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלְטוֹבָה׃le/to/VAfor their good

    Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

12. 12

    כִּיkiwhenיָצֻמוּya/TSU/muthey will fastאֵינֶנִּיe/NEN/niI will notשֹׁמֵעַsho/ME/ahearאֶל־רִנָּתָםel-rin/na/TAMtheir cryוְכִיve/KHIand whenיַעֲלוּya/a/LUthey offerעֹלָהo/LAa burnt offeringוּמִנְחָהu/min/CHAand a grain offeringאֵינֶנִּיe/NEN/niI will notרֹצָםro/TSAMaccept themכִּיkibutבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revwith the swordוּבָרָעָבu/va/ra/AVand by famineוּבַדֶּבֶרu/vad/DE/verand by the pestilenceאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמְכַלֶּהme/khal/LEwill consumeאוֹתָם׃o/TAMthem

    When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲהָהּa/HAalasאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYO LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַנְּבִאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsאֹמְרִיםom/RIMsayלָהֶםla/HEMto themלֹא־תִרְאוּlo-tir/Uyou will not seeחֶרֶבCHE/revthe sword ofוְרָעָבve/ra/AVand famineלֹא־יִהְיֶהlo-yih/YEwill not beלָכֶםla/KHEMto youכִּי־שְׁלוֹםki-she/LOMbut peace ofאֱמֶתe/METtruthאֶתֵּןet/TENI will giveלָכֶםla/KHEMto youבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֵלַיe/LAYto meשֶׁקֶרSHE/kerfalsehoodהַנְּבִאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsנִבְּאִיםnib/be/IMprophesyבִּשְׁמִיbish/MIin my nameלֹאlonotשְׁלַחְתִּיםshe/lach/TIMI did send themוְלֹאve/LOnorצִוִּיתִיםtsiv/vi/TIMcommanded themוְלֹאve/LOnorדִבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tispokenאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themחֲזוֹןcha/ZONa vision ofשֶׁקֶרSHE/kerfalsehoodוְקֶסֶםve/KE/semand divination[וֶאֱלִילve/e/LILand a worthless thingוְתַרְמִית]ve/tar/MITand the deceit ofלִבָּםlib/BAMtheir heartsהֵמָּהHEM/matheyמִתְנַבְּאִיםmit/nab/be/IMprophesyלָכֶם׃la/KHEMto you

    Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעַל־הַנְּבִאִיםal-han/ne/vi/IMconcerning the prophetsהַנִּבְּאִיםhan/nib/be/IMwho prophesyבִּשְׁמִיbish/MIin my nameוַאֲנִיva/a/NIthough Iלֹא־שְׁלַחְתִּיםlo-she/lach/TIMdid not send themוְהֵמָּהve/HEM/mayet theyאֹמְרִיםom/RIMsayחֶרֶבCHE/revswordוְרָעָבve/ra/AVand famineלֹאlonotיִהְיֶהyih/YEwill beבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revwith the swordוּבָרָעָבu/va/ra/AVand by famineיִתַּמּוּyit/TAM/muwill be consumedהַנְּבִאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsהָהֵמָּה׃ha/HEM/mathose

    Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

    וְהָעָםve/ha/AMand the peopleאֲשֶׁר־הֵמָּהa/SHER-HEM/mato whom theyנִבְּאִיםnib/be/IMprophesyלָהֶםla/HEMto themיִהְיוּyih/YUwill beמֻשְׁלָכִיםmush/la/KHIMcast outבְּחֻצוֹתbe/chu/TSOTin the streets ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofהָרָעָבha/ra/AVthe famineוְהַחֶרֶבve/ha/CHE/revand the swordוְאֵיןve/ENwith noמְקַבֵּרme/kab/BERone to buryלָהֵמָּהla/HEM/mathemהֵמָּהHEM/matheyנְשֵׁיהֶםne/she/HEMtheir wivesוּבְנֵיהֶםu/ve/ne/HEMand their sonsוּבְנֹתֵיהֶםu/ve/no/te/HEMand their daughtersוְשָׁפַכְתִּיve/sha/fakh/TIfor I will pour outעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themאֶת־רָעָתָם׃et-ra/a/TAMtheir wickedness

    And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

    וְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisתֵּרַדְנָהte/RAD/nalet run down withעֵינַיe/NAYmy eyesדִּמְעָהdim/AtearsלַיְלָהLAY/lanightוְיוֹמָםve/yo/MAMand dayוְאַל־תִּדְמֶינָהve/AL-tid/ME/naand let them not ceaseכִּיkiforשֶׁבֶרSHE/verwith a breachגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatנִשְׁבְּרָהnish/be/RAis brokenבְּתוּלַתbe/tu/LATthe virginבַּת־עַמִּיbat-am/MIdaughter of my peopleמַכָּהmak/KAwith a blowנַחְלָהnach/LAgrievousמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

18. 18

    אִם־יָצָאתִיim-ya/TSA/tiif I go outהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEinto the fieldוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdחַלְלֵי־חֶרֶבchal/LE-CHE/revthe slain of the swordוְאִםve/IMand ifבָּאתִיBA/tiI enterהָעִירha/IRinto the cityוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdתַּחֲלוּאֵיta/cha/lu/Ethe sicknesses ofרָעָבra/AVfamineכִּי־גַם־נָבִיאki-gam-na/VIfor both the prophetגַם־כֹּהֵןgam-ko/HENand the priestסָחֲרוּsa/cha/RUroamאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsinto a landוְלֹאve/LOand notיָדָעוּ׃ya/DA/uthey know

    If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

    הֲמָאֹסha/ma/OSrejectמָאַסְתָּma/AS/tahave You rejectedאֶת־יְהוּדָהet-Ye/hu/DAJudahאִם־בְּצִיּוֹןim-Be/tsiy/YONor Zionגָּעֲלָהga/a/LAloatheנַפְשֶׁךָnaf/SHE/khadoes Your soulמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyהִכִּיתָנוּhik/ki/TA/nuhave You struck usוְאֵיןve/ENso that there is noלָנוּLA/nufor usמַרְפֵּאmar/PEhealingקַוֵּהkav/VEwe lookedלְשָׁלוֹםle/sha/LOMfor peaceוְאֵיןve/ENbut noטוֹבtovgoodוּלְעֵתu/le/ETand for the time ofמַרְפֵּאmar/PEhealingוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdבְעָתָה׃ve/a/TAterror

    Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!

    יָדַעְנוּya/DA/nuwe acknowledgeיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDרִשְׁעֵנוּrish/E/nuour wickednessעֲוֺןa/VONthe iniquity ofאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersכִּיkiforחָטָאנוּcha/TA/nuwe have sinnedלָךְ׃lakhagainst You

    We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

21. 21

    אַל־תִּנְאַץal-tin/ATSdo not spurn usלְמַעַןle/MA/anfor the sake ofשִׁמְךָshim/KHAYour nameאַל־תְּנַבֵּלal-te/nab/BELdo not dishonorכִּסֵּאkis/SEthe throne ofכְבוֹדֶךָkhe/vo/DE/khaYour gloryזְכֹרze/KHORrememberאַל־תָּפֵרal-ta/FERdo not breakבְּרִיתְךָbe/ri/te/KHAYour covenantאִתָּנוּ׃it/TA/nuwith us

    Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.

    הֲיֵשׁha/YESHis thereבְּהַבְלֵיbe/hav/LEamong the vanities ofהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsמַגְשִׁמִיםmag/shi/MIMany who cause rainוְאִם־הַשָּׁמַיִםve/IM-hash/sha/MA/yimor can the heavensיִתְּנוּyit/te/NUgiveרְבִבִיםre/vi/VIMshowersהֲלֹאha/LOis it notאַתָּה־הוּאat/TA-huYouיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godוּנְקַוֶּה־לָּךְUN/kav/ve-lakhtherefore we wait for Youכִּי־אַתָּהki-at/TAfor Youעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tahave madeאֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּה׃et-kol-EL/leall these

    Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
