Jeremiah 12 יִרְמְיָהוּ פרק י״ב

1. 1

   צַדִּיקright wouldst beאַתָּהyouיְהֹוָהthe LORDכִּיthatאָרִיבI were to contendאֵלֶיךָto youאַךְbutמִשְׁפָּטִיםthese points of justiceאֲדַבֵּרI will reasonאֹתָךְwith Youמַדּוּעַwhyדֶּרֶךְthe way ofרְשָׁעִיםthe wickedצָלֵחָהdoes it prosperשָׁלוּare happyכׇּל־בֹּגְדֵיall those who act treacherously ofבָגֶד׃treachery

   Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?

2. 2

   נְטַעְתָּםyou have planted themגַּם־שֹׁרָשׁוּalso they have taken rootיֵלְכוּthey growגַּם־עָשׂוּindeed they bring forthפֶרִיfruitקָרוֹבnearאַתָּהyouבְּפִיהֶםin their mouthsוְרָחוֹקand is farמִכִּלְיוֹתֵיהֶם׃from their inward parts

   Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

   וְאַתָּהand youיְהֹוָהthe LORDיְדַעְתָּנִיYou knowst meתִּרְאֵנִיYou hast seen meוּבָחַנְתָּand triedלִבִּיmy heartאִתָּךְtowards Youהַתִּקֵםpull them outכְּצֹאןlike sheep ofלְטִבְחָהto slaughterוְהַקְדִּשֵׁםand prepare themלְיוֹםfor the day ofהֲרֵגָה׃slaughter

   But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

4. 4

   עַד־מָתַיuntil whenתֶּאֱבַלit will mournהָאָרֶץthe landוְעֵשֶׂבand the herbs ofכׇּל־הַשָּׂדֶהall the fieldיִיבָשׁwitherמֵרָעַתfrom the evil ofיֹשְׁבֵי־בָהּthem that dwell thereסָפְתָהare consumedבְהֵמוֹתthe beastsוָעוֹףand birdsכִּיbecauseאָמְרוּthey saidלֹאnotיִרְאֶהshall seeאֶת־אַחֲרִיתֵנוּ׃our last end

   How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.

   כִּיbecauseאֶת־רַגְלִיםwith the footmenרַצְתָּהyou have runוַיַּלְאוּךָand they have made weary youוְאֵיךְand howתְּתַחֲרֶהcan you contendאֶת־הַסּוּסִיםthe horsesוּבְאֶרֶץand in the land ofשָׁלוֹםpeaceאַתָּהyouבוֹטֵחַdost feel secureוְאֵיךְand howתַּעֲשֶׂהwill you doבִּגְאוֹןin the wild country ofהַיַּרְדֵּן׃the Jordan

   If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

6. 6

   כִּיforגַם־אַחֶיךָalso your brothersוּבֵית־אָבִיךָand house of your fatherגַּם־הֵמָּהalso they areבָּגְדוּthey have acted treacherouslyבָךְyouגַּם־הֵמָּהalso they areקָרְאוּare in full cryאַחֲרֶיךָafter youמָלֵאafter youאַל־תַּאֲמֵןbelieve notבָּםin themכִּי־יְדַבְּרוּthough they shall speakאֵלֶיךָto youטוֹבוֹת׃fair words

   For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.

   עָזַבְתִּיI have abandonedאֶת־בֵּיתִיmy houseנָטַשְׁתִּיI have leftאֶת־נַחֲלָתִיmy own inheritanceנָתַתִּיI gaveאֶת־יְדִדוּתthe dearly beloved ofנַפְשִׁיmy soulבְּכַףinto the hand ofאֹיְבֶיהָ׃her enemies

   I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.

8. 8

   הָיְתָה־לִּיwas to meנַחֲלָתִיmy own inheritanceכְּאַרְיֵהas a lionבַיָּעַרin the forestנָתְנָהit cries outעָלַיupon meבְּקוֹלָהּwith her voiceעַל־כֵּןthereforeשְׂנֵאתִיהָ׃have I hated it

   Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.

9. 9

   הַעַיִטan eagleצָבוּעַlong clawedנַחֲלָתִיmy own inheritanceלִיto meהַעַיִטan eagleסָבִיבall aroundעָלֶיהָupon itלְכוּgoאִסְפוּgatherכׇּל־חַיַּתall beasts ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldהֵתָיוּbring themלְאׇכְלָה׃to devour

   Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.

10. 10

    רֹעִיםshepherdsרַבִּיםmanyשִׁחֲתוּhave destroyedכַּרְמִיmy vineyardבֹּסְסוּthey have trodden under footאֶת־חֶלְקָתִיmy portionנָתְנוּthey have madeאֶת־חֶלְקַתthe portion ofחֶמְדָּתִיmy pleasantלְמִדְבַּרa wildernessשְׁמָמָה׃desolate

    Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

11. 11

    שָׂמָהּthey have made itלִשְׁמָמָהdesolateאָבְלָהit mournsעָלַיupon meשְׁמֵמָהbeing desolateנָשַׁמָּהit has been made desolateכׇּל־הָאָרֶץthe whole landכִּיbecauseאֵיןthere is noאִישׁa manשָׂםlays itעַל־לֵב׃to heart

    They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.

12. 12

    עַל־כׇּל־שְׁפָיִםupon all high hillsבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessבָּאוּcameשֹׁדְדִיםthe spoilersכִּיforחֶרֶבthe sword ofלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֹכְלָהdevoursמִקְצֵה־אֶרֶץfrom the one end of the landוְעַד־קְצֵהto the other end ofהָאָרֶץthe landאֵיןthere is noשָׁלוֹםpeaceלְכׇל־בָּשָׂר׃no flesh

    The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.

13. 13

    זָרְעוּthey have sownחִטִּיםwheatוְקֹצִיםand thornsקָצָרוּthey have reapedנֶחְלוּthey have put themselves to painלֹאnotיוֹעִלוּshall they profitוּבֹשׁוּbe then ashamedמִתְּבוּאֹתֵיכֶםof your harvestsמֵחֲרוֹןbecause of the fierceאַף־יְהֹוָה׃the anger of the LORD

    They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

14. 14

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַל־כׇּל־שְׁכֵנַיagainst all my neighborsהָרָעִיםevilהַנֹּגְעִיםthose who touchבַּנַּחֲלָהthe inheritanceאֲשֶׁר־הִנְחַלְתִּיwhich I have caused to inheritאֶת־עַמִּיmy peopleאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהִנְנִיbehold Iנֹתְשָׁםwill pluck them outמֵעַלfrom uponאַדְמָתָםtheir landוְאֶת־בֵּיתand house ofיְהוּדָהJudahאֶתּוֹשׁI will pluck upמִתּוֹכָם׃from among them

    Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

15. 15

    וְהָיָהand beאַחֲרֵיafterנׇתְשִׁיI have plucked them outאוֹתָםthemאָשׁוּבI returnוְרִחַמְתִּיםand I will have compassion on themוַהֲשִׁבֹתִיםand I will bring back themאִישׁevery manלְנַחֲלָתוֹto his own inheritanceוְאִישׁand every manלְאַרְצוֹ׃to his own land

    And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

16. 16

    וְהָיָהand beאִם־לָמֹדif diligentlyיִלְמְדוּthey will learnאֶת־דַּרְכֵיthe ways ofעַמִּיmy peopleלְהִשָּׁבֵעַto swearבִּשְׁמִיby my nameחַי־יְהֹוָהas the LORD-livesכַּאֲשֶׁרasלִמְּדוּthey taughtאֶת־עַמִּיmy peopleלְהִשָּׁבֵעַto swearבַּבָּעַלby the Baalוְנִבְנוּand they will be builtבְּתוֹךְamongעַמִּי׃my people

    And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

17. 17

    וְאִםand ifלֹאnotיִשְׁמָעוּthey listenוְנָתַשְׁתִּיI will pluck upאֶת־הַגּוֹיthe nationהַהוּאthatנָתוֹשׁutterlyוְאַבֵּדand destroyנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃says the LORD

    But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.
