   Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

   כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־דֶּרֶךְel-DE/rekhthe way ofהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsאַל־תִּלְמָדוּal-til/MA/dudo not learnוּמֵאֹתוֹתu/me/o/TOTand from the signs ofהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensאַל־תֵּחָתּוּal-te/CHAT/tudo not be dismayedכִּי־יֵחַתּוּki-ye/CHAT/tufor are dismayedהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsמֵהֵמָּה׃me/HEM/maat them

   Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

   כִּי־חֻקּוֹתki-chuk/KOTfor the customs ofהָעַמִּיםha/am/MIMthe peoplesהֶבֶלHE/velvanityהוּאhuareכִּי־עֵץki-etsfor a treeמִיַּעַרmiy/YA/arout of the forestכְּרָתוֹke/ra/TOone cuts itמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofיְדֵי־חָרָשׁye/DE-cha/RASHthe hands of a craftsmanבַּמַּעֲצָד׃bam/ma/a/TSADwith an axe

   For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

   בְּכֶסֶףbe/KHE/sefwith silverוּבְזָהָבu/ve/za/HAVand with goldיְיַפֵּהוּye/yap/PE/huthey adorn itבְּמַסְמְרוֹתbe/mas/me/ROTwith nailsוּבְמַקָּבוֹתu/ve/mak/ka/VOTand hammersיְחַזְּקוּםye/chaz/ze/KUMthey fasten itוְלוֹאve/LOso that notיָפִיק׃ya/FIKit totters

   They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

   כְּתֹמֶרke/TO/merlike a palm treeמִקְשָׁהmik/SHAof hammered workהֵמָּהHEM/mathey areוְלֹאve/LOand notיְדַבֵּרוּye/dab/BE/rucan they speakנָשׂוֹאna/SObe carriedיִנָּשׂוּאyin/na/SUthey must be carriedכִּיkiforלֹאlonotיִצְעָדוּyits/A/ducan they walkאַל־תִּירְאוּal-ti/re/Udo not fearמֵהֶםme/HEMof themכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notיָרֵעוּya/RE/ucan they do evilוְגַם־הֵיטֵיבve/GAM-he/TEVnor also do goodאֵיןenit is notאוֹתָם׃o/TAMin them

   They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

   Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.

   מִיmiwhoלֹאlowould notיִרָאֲךָyi/ra/a/KHAfear YouמֶלֶךְME/lekhO King ofהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsכִּיkiforלְךָle/KHAto Youיָאָתָהya/A/tait is fittingכִּיkiforבְכׇל־חַכְמֵיve/KHOL-chakh/MEamong all the wise men ofהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsוּבְכׇל־מַלְכוּתָםu/ve/KHOL-mal/khu/TAMand in all their kingdomsמֵאֵיןme/ENthere is noneכָּמוֹךָ׃ka/MO/khalike You

   Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.

   וּבְאַחַתu/ve/a/CHATand altogetherיִבְעֲרוּyiv/a/RUthey are stupidוְיִכְסָלוּve/yikh/SA/luand foolishמוּסַרmu/SARthe instruction ofהֲבָלִיםha/va/LIMvanitiesעֵץetsis woodהוּא׃huit

   But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.

   כֶּסֶףKE/sefsilverמְרֻקָּעme/ruk/KAbeatenמִתַּרְשִׁישׁmit/Tar/SHISHfrom Tarshishיוּבָאyu/VAis broughtוְזָהָבve/za/HAVand goldמֵאוּפָזme/U/FAZfrom Uphazמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofחָרָשׁcha/RASHa craftsmanוִידֵיvi/DEand the hands ofצוֹרֵףtso/REFa goldsmithתְּכֵלֶתte/KHE/letblueוְאַרְגָּמָןve/ar/ga/MANand purpleלְבוּשָׁםle/vu/SHAMtheir clothingמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofחֲכָמִיםcha/kha/MIMskilled menכֻּלָּם׃kul/LAMthey all are

   Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.

    וַיהֹוָהve-Adonaibut the LORD isאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֱמֶתe/METthe trueהוּא־אֱלֹהִיםhu-e/lo/HIMHe is the Godחַיִּיםchay/YIMlivingוּמֶלֶךְu/ME/lekhand a Kingעוֹלָםo/LAMeverlastingמִקִּצְפּוֹmik/kits/POat His wrathתִּרְעַשׁtir/ASHtremblesהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe earthוְלֹא־יָכִלוּve/LO-ya/KHI/luand cannot endureגוֹיִםgo/YIMnationsזַעְמוֹ׃za/MOHis indignation

    But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.

    כִּדְנָהkid/NAthusתֵּאמְרוּןte/me/RUNyou shall sayלְהוֹםle/HOMto themאֱלָהַיָּאe/la/hay/YAthe godsדִּי־שְׁמַיָּאdi-she/may/YAwho the heavensוְאַרְקָאve/ar/KAand the earthלָאlanotעֲבַדוּa/VA/duhave madeיֵאבַדוּye/VA/duwill perishמֵאַרְעָאme/ar/Afrom the earthוּמִן־תְּחוֹתu/MIN-te/CHOTand from underשְׁמַיָּאshe/may/YAthe heavensאֵלֶּה׃EL/lethese

    Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.

12. 12

    עֹשֵׂהo/SEHe has madeאֶרֶץE/retsthe earthבְּכֹחוֹbe/kho/CHOby His powerמֵכִיןme/KHINwho establishedתֵּבֵלte/VELthe worldבְּחׇכְמָתוֹbe/chokh/ma/TOby His wisdomוּבִתְבוּנָתוֹu/vit/vu/na/TOand by His understandingנָטָהna/TAhas stretched outשָׁמָיִם׃sha/MA/yimthe heavens

    He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

    לְקוֹלle/KOLat the voiceתִּתּוֹtit/TOof His givingהֲמוֹןha/MONthere is a tumult ofמַיִםMA/yimwatersבַּשָּׁמַיִםbash/sha/MA/yimin the heavensוַיַּעֲלֶהvay/ya/a/LEand He causes to ascendנְשִׂאִיםne/si/IMthe vaporsמִקְצֵהmik/TSEfrom the end of(ארץ)rats[הָאָרֶץ]ha/A/retsthe earthבְּרָקִיםbe/ra/KIMlightningsלַמָּטָרlam/ma/TARfor the rainעָשָׂהa/SAHe makesוַיּוֹצֵאvay/yo/TSEand brings outרוּחַRU/achthe windמֵאֹצְרֹתָיו׃me/ots/ro/TAYVfrom His storehouses

    When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

14. 14

    נִבְעַרniv/ARis stupidכׇּל־אָדָםkol-a/DAMevery manמִדַּעַתmid/DA/atwithout knowledgeהֹבִישׁho/VISHis put to shameכׇּל־צוֹרֵףkol-tso/REFevery goldsmithמִפָּסֶלmip/PA/selby his idolכִּיkiforשֶׁקֶרSHE/kerfalsehoodנִסְכּוֹnis/KOhis molten image isוְלֹא־רוּחַve/LO-RU/achand there is no breathבָּם׃bamin them

    Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

15. 15

    הֶבֶלHE/velvanityהֵמָּהHEM/mathey areמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofתַּעְתֻּעִיםta/tu/IMmockeryבְּעֵתbe/ETin the time ofפְּקֻדָּתָםpe/kud/da/TAMtheir punishmentיֹאבֵדוּ׃yo/VE/duthey will perish

    They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

16. 16

    לֹא־כְאֵלֶּהlo-khe/EL/lenot like themחֵלֶקCHE/lekthe portion ofיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobכִּי־יוֹצֵרki-Yo/TSERfor the Former ofהַכֹּלhak/KOLall thingsהוּאhuis Heוְיִשְׂרָאֵלve/Yis/ra/ELand IsraelשֵׁבֶטSHE/vetis the tribe ofנַחֲלָתוֹna/cha/la/TOHis inheritanceיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsשְׁמוֹ׃she/MOis His name

    The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.

17. 17

    אִסְפִּיis/PIgather upמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the landכִּנְעָתֵךְkin/a/TEKHyour bundle(ישבתי)yashavatay[יֹשֶׁבֶת]yo/SHE/vetO you who dwellבַּמָּצוֹר׃bam/ma/TSORunder siege

    Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.

18. 18

    כִּי־כֹהki-khofor thusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iקוֹלֵעַko/LE/awill sling outאֶת־יוֹשְׁבֵיet-yosh/VEthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landבַּפַּעַםbap/PA/amat the timeהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוַהֲצֵרֹתִיva/ha/tse/RO/tiand will distressלָהֶםla/HEMto themלְמַעַןle/MA/anin order thatיִמְצָאוּ׃yim/TSA/uthey may find it

    For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.

19. 19

    אוֹיoywoeלִיlito meעַל־שִׁבְרִיal-shiv/RIfor my hurtנַחְלָהnach/LAis grievousמַכָּתִיmak/ka/TImy woundוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tisaidאַךְakhtrulyזֶהzethis isחֳלִיcho/LIa sicknessוְאֶשָּׂאֶנּוּ׃ve/es/sa/EN/nuand I must bear it

    Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.

20. 20

    אׇהֳלִיo/ho/LImy tentשֻׁדָּדshud/DADis destroyedוְכׇל־מֵיתָרַיve/KHOL-me/ta/RAYand all my cordsנִתָּקוּnit/TA/kuare brokenבָּנַיba/NAYmy childrenיְצָאֻנִיye/tsa/U/nihave gone from meוְאֵינָםve/e/NAMand they are notאֵין־נֹטֶהen-no/TEthere is no one to pitchעוֹדodagainאׇהֳלִיo/ho/LImy tentוּמֵקִיםu/me/KIMor to set upיְרִיעוֹתָי׃ye/ri/o/TAYmy tent curtains

    My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

21. 21

    כִּיkiforנִבְעֲרוּniv/a/RUhave become stupidהָרֹעִיםha/ro/IMthe shepherdsוְאֶת־יְהֹוָהve/ET-Adonaiand the LORDלֹאlonotדָרָשׁוּda/RA/shuhave they soughtעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeלֹאlonotהִשְׂכִּילוּhis/KI/luhave they prosperedוְכׇל־מַרְעִיתָםve/KHOL-mar/i/TAMand all their flockנָפוֹצָה׃na/FO/tsais scattered

    For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.

22. 22

    קוֹלkolthe sound ofשְׁמוּעָהshe/mu/Aa reportהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבָאָהva/Ait comesוְרַעַשׁve/RA/ashand a commotionגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofצָפוֹןtsa/FONthe northלָשׂוּםla/SUMto makeאֶת־עָרֵיet-a/REthe cities ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahשְׁמָמָהshe/ma/MAdesolateמְעוֹןme/ONa den ofתַּנִּים׃tan/NIMjackals

    Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.

23. 23

    יָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDכִּיkithatלֹאlonotלָאָדָםla/a/DAMof man isדַּרְכּוֹdar/KOhis wayלֹא־לְאִישׁlo-le/ISHit is not in manהֹלֵךְho/LEKHwho walksוְהָכִיןve/ha/KHINto directאֶת־צַעֲדוֹ׃et-tsa/a/DOhis steps

    O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

24. 24

    יַסְּרֵנִיyas/se/RE/nicorrect meיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאַךְ־בְּמִשְׁפָּטakh-be/mish/PATbut with justiceאַל־בְּאַפְּךָal-be/ap/pe/KHAnot in Your angerפֶּן־תַּמְעִטֵנִי׃pen-tam/i/TE/nilest You bring me to nothing

    O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.

25. 25

    שְׁפֹךְshe/FOKHpour outחֲמָתְךָcha/ma/te/KHAYour furyעַל־הַגּוֹיִםal-hag/go/YIMon the nationsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־יְדָעוּךָlo-ye/da/U/khado not know Youוְעַלve/ALand onמִשְׁפָּחוֹתmish/pa/CHOTthe familiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבְּשִׁמְךָbe/shim/KHAon Your nameלֹאlonotקָרָאוּka/RA/udo they callכִּי־אָכְלוּki-a/khe/LUfor they have eaten upאֶת־יַעֲקֹבet-Ya/a/KOVJacobוַאֲכָלֻהוּva/a/kha/LU/huthey have eaten him upוַיְכַלֻּהוּvay/khal/LU/huand consumed himוְאֶת־נָוֵהוּve/ET-na/VE/huand his habitationהֵשַׁמּוּ׃he/SHAM/muthey have laid waste

    Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.
