   And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

   And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.

   Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;

   And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

   Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,

   נַעֲלֶהna/a/LElet-us-go-upבִיהוּדָהVi/hu/DAagainst-Judahוּנְקִיצֶנָּהu/ne/ki/TSEN/naand-harass-itוְנַבְקִעֶנָּהve/nav/ki/EN/naand-let-us-make-a-breach-in-itאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuunto-usוְנַמְלִיךְve/nam/LIKHand-let-us-crownמֶלֶךְME/lekha-kingבְּתוֹכָהּbe/to/KHAin-its-midstאֵת־בֶּן־טָבְאַל׃et-Ben-ta/ve/ALthe-son-of-Tabeal

   Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:

7. 7

   כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe-LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODלֹאlonotתָקוּםta/KUMit-shall-standוְלֹאve/LOand-notתִהְיֶה׃tih/YEit-shall-be

   Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

8. 8

   כִּיkiforרֹאשׁroshthe-head-ofאֲרָםA/RAMSyriaדַּמֶּשֶׂקDam/ME/sekDamascusוְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand-the-head-ofדַּמֶּשֶׂקDam/ME/sekDamascusרְצִיןRe/TSINRezinוּבְעוֹדu/ve/ODand-withinשִׁשִּׁיםshish/SHIMsixtyוְחָמֵשׁve/cha/MESHand-fiveשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsיֵחַתye/CHATshall-be-brokenאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimמֵעָם׃me/AMfrom-being-a-people

   For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.

   וְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand-the-head-ofאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONSamariaוְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand-the-head-ofשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONSamariaבֶּן־רְמַלְיָהוּben-Re/mal/YA/huson-of-Remaliahאִםimifלֹאlonotתַאֲמִינוּta/a/MI/nuyou-will-believeכִּיkisurelyלֹאlonotתֵאָמֵנוּ׃te/a/ME/nuyou-shall-be-established

   And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

    וַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefand-addedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe-LORDדַּבֵּרdab/BERspeakאֶל־אָחָזel-A/CHAZunto-Ahazלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

    שְׁאַל־לְךָshe/AL-le/KHAask-for-yourselfאוֹתota-signמֵעִםme/IMfromיְהֹוָהAdonaithe-LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour-Godהַעְמֵקha/MEKmake-deepשְׁאָלָהshe/A/laaskאוֹoorהַגְבֵּהַּhag/BE/ahmake-highלְמָעְלָה׃le/MA/laabove

    Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand-saidאָחָזA/CHAZAhazלֹא־אֶשְׁאַלlo-esh/ALI-will-not-askוְלֹא־אֲנַסֶּהve/LO-a/nas/SEneither-will-I-temptאֶת־יְהֹוָה׃et-Adonaithe-LORD

    But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand-saidשִׁמְעוּ־נָאshim/U-nahear-you-nowבֵּיתbetO-house-ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidהַמְעַטham/ATis-it-a-small-thingמִכֶּםmik/KEMfrom-youהַלְאוֹתhal/OTto-wearyאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenכִּיkiforתַלְאוּtal/Uwill-you-wearyגַּםgamalsoאֶת־אֱלֹהָי׃et-e/lo/HAYmy-God

    And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

14. 14

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיִתֵּןyit/TENshall-giveאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe-LordהוּאhuHimselfלָכֶםla/KHEMto-youאוֹתota-signהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהָעַלְמָהha/al/MAthe-virginהָרָהha/RAis-with-childוְיֹלֶדֶתve/yo/LE/detand-she-will-bearבֵּןbena-sonוְקָרָאתve/ka/RATand-she-shall-callשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis-nameעִמָּנוּIm/MA/nuImmanu-אֵל׃elel

    Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

15. 15

    חֶמְאָהchem/Abutterוּדְבַשׁu/de/VASHand-honeyיֹאכֵלyo/KHELshall-he-eatלְדַעְתּוֹle/da/TOwhen-he-knowsמָאוֹסma/OSto-refuseבָּרָעba/RAthe-evilוּבָחוֹרu/va/CHORand-chooseבַּטּוֹב׃bat/TOVthe-good

    Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

16. 16

    כִּיkiforבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeיֵדַעye/DAshall-knowהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe-boyמָאֹסma/OSto-refuseבָּרָעba/RAthe-evilוּבָחֹרu/va/CHORand-chooseבַּטּוֹבbat/TOVthe-goodתֵּעָזֵבte/a/ZEVshall-be-desertedהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe-landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאַתָּהat/TAyouקָץkatsdreadמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause-ofשְׁנֵיshe/NEbothמְלָכֶיהָ׃me/la/KHE/haher-kings

    For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

    יָבִיאya/VIshall-bringיְהֹוָהAdonaithe-LORDעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaupon-youוְעַל־עַמְּךָve/AL-am/me/KHAand-upon-your-peopleוְעַל־בֵּיתve/AL-betand-upon-the-house-ofאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour-fatherיָמִיםya/MIMdaysאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֹא־בָאוּlo-VA/uhave-not-comeלְמִיּוֹםle/miy/YOMsince-the-dayסוּר־אֶפְרַיִםsur-Ef/RA/yimthat-Ephraim-departedמֵעַלme/ALfrom-uponיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֵת־מֶלֶךְet-ME/lekhthe-king-ofאַשּׁוּר׃Ash/SHURAssyria

    The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

18. 18

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand-it-shall-beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin-the-dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיִשְׁרֹקyish/ROKshall-whistleיְהֹוָהAdonaithe-LORDלַזְּבוּבlaz/ze/VUVfor-the-flyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבִּקְצֵהbik/TSEin-the-end-ofיְאֹרֵיye/o/REthe-streams-ofמִצְרָיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptוְלַדְּבוֹרָהve/lad/de/vo/RAand-for-the-beeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin-the-land-ofאַשּׁוּר׃Ash/SHURAssyria

    And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

19. 19

    וּבָאוּu/VA/uand-they-shall-comeוְנָחוּve/na/CHUand-shall-restכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall-of-themבְּנַחֲלֵיbe/na/cha/LEin-the-wadis-ofהַבַּתּוֹתhab/bat/TOTthe-desolateוּבִנְקִיקֵיu/vin/ki/KEand-in-the-clefts-ofהַסְּלָעִיםhas/se/la/IMthe-cragsוּבְכֹלu/ve/KHOLand-upon-allהַנַּעֲצוּצִיםhan/na/a/tsu/TSIMthe-thornbushesוּבְכֹלu/ve/KHOLand-upon-allהַנַּהֲלֹלִים׃han/na/ha/lo/LIMthe-bushes

    And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.

20. 20

    בַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin-the-dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיְגַלַּחye/gal/LACHshall-shaveאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe-Lordבְּתַעַרbe/TA/arwith-a-razorהַשְּׂכִירָהhas/se/khi/RAthe-hiredבְּעֶבְרֵיbe/ev/REin-the-parts-beyondנָהָרna/HARthe-riverבְּמֶלֶךְbe/ME/lekhby-the-king-ofאַשּׁוּרAsh/SHURAssyriaאֶת־הָרֹאשׁet-ha/ROSHthe-headוְשַׂעַרve/SA/arand-the-hair-ofהָרַגְלָיִםha/rag/LA/yimthe-feetוְגַםve/GAMand-alsoאֶת־הַזָּקָןet-haz/za/KANthe-beardתִּסְפֶּה׃tis/PEit-shall-sweep-away

    In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.

21. 21

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand-it-shall-beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin-the-dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיְחַיֶּה־אִישׁye/chay/YE-isha-man-shall-keep-aliveעֶגְלַתeg/LATa-heifer-ofבָּקָרba/KARcattleוּשְׁתֵּי־צֹאן׃ush/TE-tsonand-two-sheep

    And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep;

22. 22

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand-it-shall-beמֵרֹבme/ROVfrom-the-abundance-ofעֲשׂוֹתa/SOTthe-yielding-ofחָלָבcha/LAVmilkיֹאכַלyo/KHALhe-shall-eatחֶמְאָהchem/Abutterכִּי־חֶמְאָהki-chem/Afor-butterוּדְבַשׁu/de/VASHand-honeyיֹאכֵלyo/KHELshall-he-eatכׇּל־הַנּוֹתָרkol-han/no/TAReveryone-that-is-leftבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revin-the-midst-ofהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsthe-land

    And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.

23. 23

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand-it-shall-beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin-the-dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall-beכׇל־מָקוֹםkhol-ma/KOMevery-placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיִהְיֶה־שָּׁםyih/YE-shamshall-be-thereאֶלֶףE/lefthousandגֶּפֶןGE/fenvineבְּאֶלֶףbe/E/lefat-a-thousandכָּסֶףKA/sefsilverלַשָּׁמִירlash/sha/MIRfor-briersוְלַשַּׁיִתve/lash/SHA/yitand-for-thornsיִהְיֶה׃yih/YEshall-be

    And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall even be for briers and thorns.

24. 24

    בַּחִצִּיםba/chits/TSIMwith-arrowsוּבַקֶּשֶׁתu/vak/KE/shetand-with-the-bowיָבוֹאya/VOone-shall-comeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereכִּי־שָׁמִירki-sha/MIRbecause-briersוָשַׁיִתva/SHA/yitand-thornsתִּהְיֶהtih/YEshall-beכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃khol-ha/A/retsall-the-land

    With arrows and with bows shall men come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns.

25. 25

    וְכֹלve/KHOLand-allהֶהָרִיםhe/ha/RIMhillsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבַּמַּעְדֵּרbam/ma/DERwith-the-hoeיֵעָדֵרוּןye/a/de/RUNare-hoedלֹא־תָבוֹאlo-ta/VOshall-not-comeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereיִרְאַתyir/ATthe-fear-ofשָׁמִירsha/MIRbriarsוָשָׁיִתva/SHA/yitand-thornsוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand-it-shall-beלְמִשְׁלַחle/mish/LACHfor-the-sending-forth-ofשׁוֹרshoroxוּלְמִרְמַסu/le/mir/MASand-for-the-treading-ofשֶׂה׃sesheep

    And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.
