   וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthe one who wasעַל־בֵּיתוֹal-be/TOover his houseלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמַלֵּאmal/LEfillאֶת־אַמְתְּחֹתet-am/te/CHOTthe sacks ofהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menאֹכֶלO/khelfoodכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERas much asיוּכְלוּןyukh/LUNthey canשְׂאֵתse/ETcarryוְשִׂיםve/SIMand putכֶּסֶף־אִישׁKE/sef-ishevery man's moneyבְּפִיbe/FIin the mouth ofאַמְתַּחְתּוֹ׃am/tach/TOhis sack

   And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.

   וְאֶת־גְּבִיעִיve/ET-ge/vi/Iand my gobletגְּבִיעַge/VI/athe goblet ofהַכֶּסֶףhak/KE/sefsilverתָּשִׂיםta/SIMputבְּפִיbe/FIin the mouth ofאַמְתַּחַתam/TA/chatthe sack ofהַקָּטֹןhak/ka/TONthe youngestוְאֵתve/ETandכֶּסֶףKE/sefthe money ofשִׁבְרוֹshiv/ROhis grainוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didכִּדְבַרkid/VARaccording to the word ofיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatדִּבֵּר׃dib/BERhe had spoken

   And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

   הַבֹּקֶרhab/BO/kerthe morningאוֹרorwas lightוְהָאֲנָשִׁיםve/ha/a/na/SHIMand the menשֻׁלְּחוּshul/le/CHUwere sent awayהֵמָּהHEM/matheyוַחֲמֹרֵיהֶם׃va/cha/mo/re/HEMand their donkeys

   As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.

   הֵםhemtheyיָצְאוּya/tse/Uwere gone out ofאֶת־הָעִירet-ha/IRthe cityלֹאlonotהִרְחִיקוּhir/CHI/kuwere far offוְיוֹסֵףve/Yo/SEFand Josephאָמַרa/MARsaidלַאֲשֶׁרla/a/SHERto the one who wasעַל־בֵּיתוֹal-be/TOover his houseקוּםkumariseרְדֹףre/DOFfollowאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menוְהִשַּׂגְתָּםve/his/sag/TAMand when you overtake themוְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themלָמָּהLAM/mawhereforeשִׁלַּמְתֶּםshil/lam/TEMhave you rewardedרָעָהra/AevilתַּחַתTA/chatforטוֹבָה׃to/VAgood

   And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?

   הֲלוֹאha/LOis notזֶהzethis itאֲשֶׁרa/SHERin whichיִשְׁתֶּהyish/TEdrinksאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordבּוֹboin itוְהוּאve/HUand heנַחֵשׁna/CHESHdivineיְנַחֵשׁye/na/CHESHhe divinesבּוֹboby itהֲרֵעֹתֶםha/re/o/TEMyou have done evilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERin whichעֲשִׂיתֶם׃a/si/TEMyou have done so

   Is not this it in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.

   וַיַּשִּׂגֵםvay/yas/si/GEMand he overtook themוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

   And he overtook them, and he spake unto them these same words.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלָמָּהLAM/mawhyיְדַבֵּרye/dab/BERsaysאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordכַּדְּבָרִיםkad/de/va/RIMaccording to the wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseחָלִילָהcha/LI/lafar be itלַעֲבָדֶיךָla/a/va/DE/khato your servantsמֵעֲשׂוֹתme/a/SOTthat should doכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARaccording to the wordהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my lord these words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this thing:

   הֵןhenbeholdכֶּסֶףKE/sefthe moneyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichמָצָאנוּma/TSA/nuwe have foundבְּפִיbe/FIin the mouth ofאַמְתְּחֹתֵינוּam/te/cho/TE/nuour sacksהֱשִׁיבֹנוּhe/shi/VO/nuwe brought againאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofכְּנָעַןKe/NA/anCanaanוְאֵיךְve/EKHand howנִגְנֹבnig/NOVshould we stealמִבֵּיתmib/BETfrom the house ofאֲדֹנֶיךָa/do/NE/khayour lord'sכֶּסֶףKE/sefthe moneyאוֹoorזָהָב׃za/HAVgold

   Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold?

   אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoeverיִמָּצֵאyim/ma/TSEit is foundאִתּוֹit/TOwith himמֵעֲבָדֶיךָme/a/va/DE/khaof your servantsוָמֵתva/METlet him dieוְגַם־אֲנַחְנוּve/GAM-a/NACH/nuand we alsoנִהְיֶהnih/YEwill beלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIto my lordלַעֲבָדִים׃la/a/va/DIMbondmen

   With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my lord's bondmen.

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidגַּם־עַתָּהgam-at/TAnow alsoכְדִבְרֵיכֶםkhe/div/re/KHEMaccording to your wordsכֶּן־הוּאken-huso let it beאֲשֶׁרa/SHERhe with whomיִמָּצֵאyim/ma/TSEit is foundאִתּוֹit/TOwith himיִהְיֶה־לִּיyih/YE-lishall be myעָבֶדA/vedservantוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youתִּהְיוּtih/YUshall beנְקִיִּם׃ne/kiy/YIMblameless

    And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be blameless.

11. 11

    וַיְמַהֲרוּvay/ma/ha/RUand they hastedוַיּוֹרִדוּvay/yo/RI/duand took downאִישׁishevery manאֶת־אַמְתַּחְתּוֹet-am/tach/TOhis sackאָרְצָהAR/tsato the groundוַיִּפְתְּחוּvay/yif/te/CHUand they openedאִישׁishevery manאַמְתַּחְתּוֹ׃am/tach/TOhis sack

    Then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.

12. 12

    וַיְחַפֵּשׂvay/chap/PESand he searchedבַּגָּדוֹלbag/ga/DOLat the eldestהֵחֵלhe/CHELbeganוּבַקָּטֹןu/vak/ka/TONand at the youngestכִּלָּהkil/LAleft offוַיִּמָּצֵאvay/yim/ma/TSEand it was foundהַגָּבִיעַhag/ga/VI/athe gobletבְּאַמְתַּחַתbe/am/TA/chatin the sack ofבִּנְיָמִן׃Bin/ya/MINBenjamin

    And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

13. 13

    וַיִּקְרְעוּvay/yik/re/Uand they rentשִׂמְלֹתָםsim/lo/TAMtheir garmentsוַיַּעֲמֹסvay/ya/a/MOSand ladedאִישׁishevery manעַל־חֲמֹרוֹal-cha/mo/ROupon his donkeyוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand returnedהָעִירָה׃ha/I/rato the city

    Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city.

14. 14

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוְאֶחָיוve/e/CHAYVand his brethrenבֵּיתָהBE/tato the house ofיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephוְהוּאve/HUand heעוֹדֶנּוּo/DEN/nuwas yetשָׁםshamthereוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand they fellלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himאָרְצָה׃AR/tsato the ground

    And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house; for he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephמָה־הַמַּעֲשֶׂהma-ham/ma/a/SEwhat deed isהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERsuch asעֲשִׂיתֶםa/si/TEMyou have doneהֲלוֹאha/LOdo notיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּי־נַחֵשׁki-na/CHESHthat divineיְנַחֵשׁye/na/CHESHcan divineאִישׁisha manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERsuch asכָּמֹנִי׃ka/MO/niI

    And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahמַה־נֹּאמַרma-NO/marwhat shall we sayלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIto my lordמַה־נְּדַבֵּרma-ne/dab/BERwhat shall we speakוּמַה־נִּצְטַדָּקu/MA-nits/tad/DAKor how shall we clear ourselvesהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodמָצָאma/TSAhas found outאֶת־עֲוֺןet-a/VONthe iniquity ofעֲבָדֶיךָa/va/DE/khayour servantsהִנֶּנּוּhin/NEN/nubehold we areעֲבָדִיםa/va/DIMservantsלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIto my lordגַּם־אֲנַחְנוּgam-a/NACH/nuboth weגַּםgamandאֲשֶׁר־נִמְצָאa/SHER-nim/TSAhe with whom is foundהַגָּבִיעַhag/ga/VI/athe gobletבְּיָדוֹ׃be/ya/DOin his hand

    And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord's servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.

17. 17

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidחָלִילָהcha/LI/lafar be itלִּיlito meמֵעֲשׂוֹתme/a/SOTthat I should doזֹאתzotthisהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנִמְצָאnim/TSAwas foundהַגָּבִיעַhag/ga/VI/athe gobletבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOin his handהוּאhuheיִהְיֶה־לִּיyih/YE-lishall be myעָבֶדA/vedservantוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youעֲלוּa/LUgo upלְשָׁלוֹםle/sha/LOMin peaceאֶל־אֲבִיכֶם׃el-a/vi/KHEMto your father

    And he said, God forbid that I should do so: but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.

18. 18

    וַיִּגַּשׁvay/yig/GASHthen came nearאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidבִּיbiOאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordיְדַבֶּר־נָאye/dab/BER-nalet speak I prayעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantדָבָרda/VARa wordבְּאׇזְנֵיbe/oz/NEin the ears ofאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordוְאַל־יִחַרve/AL-YI/charand let not burnאַפְּךָap/pe/KHAyour angerבְּעַבְדֶּךָbe/av/DE/khaagainst your servantכִּיkiforכָמוֹךָkha/MO/khayou are asכְּפַרְעֹה׃Ke/far/OPharaoh

    Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.

19. 19

    אֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordשָׁאַלsha/ALaskedאֶת־עֲבָדָיוet-a/va/DAYVhis servantsלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהֲיֵשׁ־לָכֶםha/YESH-la/KHEMhave youאָבava fatherאוֹ־אָח׃o-achor a brother

    My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?

20. 20

    וַנֹּאמֶרvan/NO/merand we saidאֶל־אֲדֹנִיel-a/do/NIto my lordיֶשׁ־לָנוּyesh-LA/nuwe haveאָבava fatherזָקֵןza/KENan old manוְיֶלֶדve/YE/ledand a child ofזְקֻנִיםze/ku/NIMold ageקָטָןka/TANa little oneוְאָחִיוve/a/CHIVand his brotherמֵתmetis deadוַיִּוָּתֵרvay/yiv/va/TERand is leftהוּאhuheלְבַדּוֹle/vad/DOaloneלְאִמּוֹle/im/MOof his motherוְאָבִיוve/a/VIVand his fatherאֲהֵבוֹ׃a/he/VOloves him

    And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him.

21. 21

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand you saidאֶל־עֲבָדֶיךָel-a/va/DE/khato your servantsהוֹרִדֻהוּho/ri/DU/hubring him downאֵלָיe/LAYto meוְאָשִׂימָהve/a/SI/mathat I may setעֵינִיe/NImy eyeעָלָיו׃a/LAYVupon him

    And thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon him.

22. 22

    וַנֹּאמֶרvan/NO/merand we saidאֶל־אֲדֹנִיel-a/do/NIto my lordלֹא־יוּכַלlo-yu/KHALcannotהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe ladלַעֲזֹבla/a/ZOVto leaveאֶת־אָבִיוet-a/VIVhis fatherוְעָזַבve/a/ZAVfor if he should leaveאֶת־אָבִיוet-a/VIVhis fatherוָמֵת׃va/METhe would die

    And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die.

23. 23

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand you saidאֶל־עֲבָדֶיךָel-a/va/DE/khato your servantsאִם־לֹאim-loexceptיֵרֵדye/REDcome downאֲחִיכֶםa/chi/KHEMyour brotherהַקָּטֹןhak/ka/TONthe youngestאִתְּכֶםit/te/KHEMwith youלֹאlonotתֹסִפוּןto/si/FUNshall you againלִרְאוֹתlir/OTto seeפָּנָי׃pa/NAYmy face

    And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more.

24. 24

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּיkiwhenעָלִינוּa/LI/nuwe came upאֶל־עַבְדְּךָel-av/de/KHAto your servantאָבִיa/VImy fatherוַנַּגֶּד־לוֹvan/NAG/ged-loand we told himאֵת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe words ofאֲדֹנִי׃a/do/NImy lord

    And it came to pass when we came up unto thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherשֻׁבוּSHU/vugo againשִׁבְרוּ־לָנוּshiv/RU-LA/nubuy usמְעַט־אֹכֶל׃me/AT-O/khela little food

    And our father said, Go again, and buy us a little food.

26. 26

    וַנֹּאמֶרvan/NO/merand we saidלֹאlonotנוּכַלnu/KHALcan weלָרֶדֶתla/RE/detto go downאִם־יֵשׁim-yeshif isאָחִינוּa/CHI/nuour brotherהַקָּטֹןhak/ka/TONthe youngestאִתָּנוּit/TA/nuwith usוְיָרַדְנוּve/ya/RAD/nuthen will we go downכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notנוּכַלnu/KHALcan weלִרְאוֹתlir/OTto seeפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manוְאָחִינוּve/a/CHI/nuand our brotherהַקָּטֹןhak/ka/TONthe youngestאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notאִתָּנוּ׃it/TA/nuwith us

    And we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother be with us.

27. 27

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאָבִיa/VImy fatherאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuto usאַתֶּםat/TEMyouיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatשְׁנַיִםshe/NA/yimtwo sonsיָלְדָה־לִּיya/le/DA-lishe bore to meאִשְׁתִּי׃ish/TImy wife

    And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two sons:

28. 28

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outהָאֶחָדha/e/CHADthe oneמֵאִתִּיme/it/TIfrom meוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאַךְakhsurelyטָרֹףta/ROFtornטֹרָףto/RAFhe is torn in piecesוְלֹאve/LOand notרְאִיתִיוre/i/TIVI have seen himעַד־הֵנָּה׃ad-HEN/nasince

    And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since:

29. 29

    וּלְקַחְתֶּםu/le/kach/TEMand if you takeגַּם־אֶת־זֶהgam-et-zethis alsoמֵעִםme/IMfromפָּנַיpa/NAYmeוְקָרָהוּve/ka/RA/huand befall himאָסוֹןa/SONmischiefוְהוֹרַדְתֶּםve/ho/rad/TEMyou shall bring downאֶת־שֵׂיבָתִיet-se/va/TImy gray hairsבְּרָעָהbe/ra/Ain evilשְׁאֹלָה׃She/O/lato Sheol

    And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

30. 30

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowכְּבֹאִיke/vo/Iwhen I comeאֶל־עַבְדְּךָel-av/de/KHAto your servantאָבִיa/VImy fatherוְהַנַּעַרve/han/NA/arand the ladאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notאִתָּנוּit/TA/nuwith usוְנַפְשׁוֹve/naf/SHOseeing that his soulקְשׁוּרָהke/shu/RAis bound upבְנַפְשׁוֹ׃ve/naf/SHOin his soul

    Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life;

31. 31

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAit shall come to passכִּרְאוֹתוֹkir/o/TOwhen he seesכִּי־אֵיןki-enthat is notהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe ladוָמֵתva/METthat he will dieוְהוֹרִידוּve/ho/RI/duand shall bring downעֲבָדֶיךָa/va/DE/khayour servantsאֶת־שֵׂיבַתet-se/VATthe gray hairs ofעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherבְּיָגוֹןbe/ya/GONwith sorrowשְׁאֹלָה׃She/O/lato Sheol

    It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave.

32. 32

    כִּיkiforעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantעָרַבa/RAVbecame surety forאֶת־הַנַּעַרet-han/NA/arthe ladמֵעִםme/IMtoאָבִיa/VImy fatherלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאִם־לֹאim-loif notאֲבִיאֶנּוּa/vi/EN/nuI bring himאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youוְחָטָאתִיve/cha/TA/tithen let me bear the blameלְאָבִיle/a/VIto my fatherכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃kol-hay/ya/MIMfor ever

    For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever.

33. 33

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowיֵשֶׁב־נָאYE/shev-nalet abide I prayעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantתַּחַתTA/chatinstead ofהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe ladעֶבֶדE/veda bondmanלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIto my lordוְהַנַּעַרve/han/NA/arand the ladיַעַלYA/allet go upעִם־אֶחָיו׃im-e/CHAYVwith his brethren

    Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.

34. 34

    כִּי־אֵיךְki-ekhfor howאֶעֱלֶהe/e/LEshall I go upאֶל־אָבִיel-a/VIto my fatherוְהַנַּעַרve/han/NA/arand the ladאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notאִתִּיit/TIwith meפֶּןpenlestאֶרְאֶהer/EI seeבָרָעva/RAthe evilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִמְצָאyim/TSAshall come onאֶת־אָבִי׃et-a/VImy father

    For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.
