1. 1

   וַיְהִיand it came to passמִקֵּץat the end ofשְׁנָתַיִםtwo yearsיָמִיםdaysוּפַרְעֹהand Pharaohחֹלֵםa dreamer ofוְהִנֵּהand beholdעֹמֵדstandingעַל־הַיְאֹר׃upon the River

   And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.

   וְהִנֵּהand beholdמִן־הַיְאֹרfrom the Riverעֹלֹתcoming upשֶׁבַעsevenפָּרוֹתcowsיְפוֹתgood looking ofמַרְאֶהappearanceוּבְרִיאֹתand fat ofבָּשָׂרthe fleshוַתִּרְעֶינָהand they grazedבָּאָחוּ׃in a meadow

   And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.

   וְהִנֵּהand beholdשֶׁבַעsevenפָּרוֹתcowsאֲחֵרוֹתotherעֹלוֹתcoming upאַחֲרֵיהֶןafter themמִן־הַיְאֹרfrom the Riverרָעוֹתill favoredמַרְאֶהappearanceוְדַקּוֹתand thin ofבָּשָׂרthe fleshוַתַּעֲמֹדְנָהand they stoodאֵצֶלnearהַפָּרוֹתthe cowsעַל־שְׂפַתupon the bank ofהַיְאֹר׃the River

   And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.

   וַתֹּאכַלְנָהand they ateהַפָּרוֹתthe cowsרָעוֹתill favoredהַמַּרְאֶהthe appearanceוְדַקֹּתand the thin ofהַבָּשָׂרthe fleshאֵת־שֶׁבַעsevenהַפָּרוֹתthe cowsיְפֹתgood looking ofהַמַּרְאֶהthe appearanceוְהַבְּרִיאֹתand the fatוַיִּיקַץand awokeפַּרְעֹה׃Pharaoh

   And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.

   וַיִּישָׁןand he fell asleepוַיַּחֲלֹםand he dreamedשֵׁנִיתagainוְהִנֵּהand beholdשֶׁבַעsevenשִׁבֳּלִיםears of grainעֹלוֹתcoming upבְּקָנֶהon a stalkאֶחָדoneבְּרִיאוֹתfatוְטֹבוֹת׃and good

   And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.

   וְהִנֵּהand beholdשֶׁבַעsevenשִׁבֳּלִיםears of grainדַּקּוֹתthinוּשְׁדוּפֹתand blasted withקָדִיםthe eastצֹמְחוֹתwere springing upאַחֲרֵיהֶן׃after them

   And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.

   וַתִּבְלַעְנָהand they swallowedהַשִּׁבֳּלִיםthe ears of grainהַדַּקּוֹתthe thinאֵת־שֶׁבַעsevenהַשִּׁבֳּלִיםthe ears of grainהַבְּרִיאוֹתthe fatוְהַמְּלֵאוֹתand the fullוַיִּיקַץand awokeפַּרְעֹהPharaohוְהִנֵּהand beholdחֲלוֹם׃a dream

   And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

   וַיְהִיand it came to passבַבֹּקֶרin the morningוַתִּפָּעֶםand was troubledרוּחוֹhis spiritוַיִּשְׁלַחand sentוַיִּקְרָאand calledאֶת־כׇּל־חַרְטֻמֵּיall the magicians ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptוְאֶת־כׇּל־חֲכָמֶיהָand all its wise menוַיְסַפֵּרand toldפַּרְעֹהPharaohלָהֶםto themאֶת־חֲלֹמוֹhis dreamוְאֵין־פּוֹתֵרand there was none to interpretאוֹתָםthemלְפַרְעֹה׃for Pharaoh

   And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

9. 9

   וַיְדַבֵּרand spokeשַׂרthe captain ofהַמַּשְׁקִיםthe cup bearersאֶת־פַּרְעֹהPharaohלֵאמֹרsayingאֶת־חֲטָאַיmy faultsאֲנִיIמַזְכִּירdo rememberהַיּוֹם׃today

   Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

    פַּרְעֹהPharaohקָצַףwas angryעַל־עֲבָדָיוwith his servantsוַיִּתֵּןand gaveאֹתִיmeבְּמִשְׁמַרin guardבֵּיתthe house ofשַׂרthe captain ofהַטַּבָּחִיםthe guardאֹתִיmeוְאֵתandשַׂרthe captain ofהָאֹפִים׃the bakers

    Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker:

11. 11

    וַנַּחַלְמָהand we dreamedחֲלוֹםa dreamבְּלַיְלָהin a nightאֶחָדoneאֲנִיIוָהוּאand heאִישׁeachכְּפִתְרוֹןaccording to the interpretation ofחֲלֹמוֹhis dreamחָלָמְנוּ׃we dreamed

    And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

12. 12

    וְשָׁםand thereאִתָּנוּwith usנַעַרa young manעִבְרִיHebrewעֶבֶדthe servant ofלְשַׂרof the commander ofהַטַּבָּחִיםthe guardוַנְּסַפֶּר־לוֹand we told himוַיִּפְתׇּר־לָנוּand he interpreted usאֶת־חֲלֹמֹתֵינוּour dreamsאִישׁeachכַּחֲלֹמוֹaccording to his dreamפָּתָר׃he had interpreted

    And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרasפָּתַר־לָנוּhe had interpreted usכֵּןthusהָיָהwasאֹתִיmeהֵשִׁיבhe restored meעַל־כַּנִּיto my placeוְאֹתוֹand himתָלָה׃he hanged

    And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

14. 14

    וַיִּשְׁלַחand sentפַּרְעֹהPharaohוַיִּקְרָאand calledאֶת־יוֹסֵףJosephוַיְרִיצֻהוּand they brought him hastilyמִן־הַבּוֹרout of the dungeonוַיְגַלַּחand he shavedוַיְחַלֵּףand he changedשִׂמְלֹתָיוhis clothesוַיָּבֹאand cameאֶל־פַּרְעֹה׃to Pharaoh

    Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶל־יוֹסֵףto Josephחֲלוֹםa dreamחָלַמְתִּיI dreamedוּפֹתֵרand an interpreterאֵיןthere is noneאֹתוֹof itוַאֲנִיand Iשָׁמַעְתִּיheardעָלֶיךָof youלֵאמֹרsayingתִּשְׁמַעyou can hearחֲלוֹםa dreamלִפְתֹּרto interpretאֹתוֹ׃of it

    And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.

16. 16

    וַיַּעַןand he answeredיוֹסֵףJosephאֶת־פַּרְעֹהPharaohלֵאמֹרsayingבִּלְעָדָיis not in meאֱלֹהִיםGodיַעֲנֶהshall give an answerאֶת־שְׁלוֹםthe peace ofפַּרְעֹה׃Pharaoh

    And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

17. 17

    וַיְדַבֵּרand spokeפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶל־יוֹסֵףto Josephבַּחֲלֹמִיin my dreamהִנְנִיbehold Iעֹמֵדstandingעַל־שְׂפַתupon the bank ofהַיְאֹר׃the River

    And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:

18. 18

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdמִן־הַיְאֹרfrom the Riverעֹלֹתcoming upשֶׁבַעsevenפָּרוֹתcowsבְּרִיאוֹתfatבָּשָׂרthe fleshוִיפֹתand well favored ofתֹּאַרformוַתִּרְעֶינָהand they grazedבָּאָחוּ׃in a meadow

    And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:

19. 19

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdשֶׁבַע־פָּרוֹתseven cowsאֲחֵרוֹתotherעֹלוֹתcoming upאַחֲרֵיהֶןafter themדַּלּוֹתweakוְרָעוֹתand ill favored ofתֹּאַרformמְאֹדexceedinglyוְרַקּוֹתand thin ofבָּשָׂרthe fleshלֹא־רָאִיתִיnot I sawכָהֵנָּהlike themבְּכׇל־אֶרֶץin all land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptלָרֹעַ׃for badness

    And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

20. 20

    וַתֹּאכַלְנָהand they ateהַפָּרוֹתthe cowsהָרַקּוֹתthe leanוְהָרָעוֹתand the ill favoredאֵת־שֶׁבַעsevenהַפָּרוֹתthe cowsהָרִאשֹׁנוֹתthe firstהַבְּרִיאֹת׃the fat

    And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:

21. 21

    וַתָּבֹאנָהand they wentאֶל־קִרְבֶּנָהinto their belliesוְלֹאand notנוֹדַעit became knownכִּי־בָאוּthat they cameאֶל־קִרְבֶּנָהinto their belliesוּמַרְאֵיהֶןand their appearanceרַעevilכַּאֲשֶׁרasבַּתְּחִלָּהat the beginningוָאִיקָץ׃and I awoke

    And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

22. 22

    וָאֵרֶאand I sawבַּחֲלֹמִיin my dreamוְהִנֵּהand beholdשֶׁבַעsevenשִׁבֳּלִיםears of grainעֹלֹתcoming upבְּקָנֶהon a stalkאֶחָדoneמְלֵאֹתfullוְטֹבוֹת׃and good

    And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:

23. 23

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdשֶׁבַעsevenשִׁבֳּלִיםears of grainצְנֻמוֹתwitheredדַּקּוֹתthinשְׁדֻפוֹתscorched ofקָדִיםthe eastצֹמְחוֹתwere springing upאַחֲרֵיהֶם׃after them

    And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:

24. 24

    וַתִּבְלַעְןָand they swallowedהַשִּׁבֳּלִיםthe ears of grainהַדַּקֹּתthe thinאֵת־שֶׁבַעsevenהַשִּׁבֳּלִיםthe ears of grainהַטֹּבוֹתthe goodוָאֹמַרand I saidאֶל־הַחַרְטֻמִּיםto the magiciansוְאֵיןand there was noneמַגִּידthat could declareלִי׃to me

    And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיוֹסֵףJosephאֶל־פַּרְעֹהto Pharaohחֲלוֹםa dreamפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶחָדoneהוּאitאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhichהָאֱלֹהִיםGodעֹשֶׂהis about to doהִגִּידhe has shewedלְפַרְעֹה׃for Pharaoh

    And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

26. 26

    שֶׁבַעsevenפָּרֹתcowsהַטֹּבֹתthe goodשֶׁבַעsevenשָׁנִיםyearsהֵנָּהthey areוְשֶׁבַעand sevenהַשִּׁבֳּלִיםthe ears of grainהַטֹּבֹתthe goodשֶׁבַעsevenשָׁנִיםyearsהֵנָּהthey areחֲלוֹםa dreamאֶחָדoneהוּא׃it

    The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.

27. 27

    וְשֶׁבַעand sevenהַפָּרוֹתthe cowsהָרַקּוֹתthe thinוְהָרָעֹתand the displeasingהָעֹלֹתthat came upאַחֲרֵיהֶןafter themשֶׁבַעsevenשָׁנִיםyearsהֵנָּהthey areוְשֶׁבַעand sevenהַשִּׁבֳּלִיםthe ears of grainהָרֵקוֹתthe emptyשְׁדֻפוֹתscorched ofהַקָּדִיםthe eastיִהְיוּshall beשֶׁבַעsevenשְׁנֵיyears ofרָעָב׃famine

    And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

28. 28

    הוּאthis isהַדָּבָרthe wordאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenאֶל־פַּרְעֹהto PharaohאֲשֶׁרwhichהָאֱלֹהִיםGodעֹשֶׂהis about to doהֶרְאָהhe has shewedאֶת־פַּרְעֹה׃Pharaoh

    This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.

29. 29

    הִנֵּהbeholdשֶׁבַעsevenשָׁנִיםyearsבָּאוֹתcomeשָׂבָעplentyגָּדוֹלgreatבְּכׇל־אֶרֶץin all land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:

30. 30

    וְקָמוּand they will ariseשֶׁבַעsevenשְׁנֵיyears ofרָעָבfamineאַחֲרֵיהֶןafter themוְנִשְׁכַּחand it will be forgottenכׇּל־הַשָּׂבָעall the plentyבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרָיִםEgyptוְכִלָּהand shall consumeהָרָעָבthe famineאֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃the land

    And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

31. 31

    וְלֹא־יִוָּדַעand not shall be knownהַשָּׂבָעthe plentyבָּאָרֶץin the landמִפְּנֵיbecause ofהָרָעָבthe famineהַהוּאthatאַחֲרֵי־כֵןhereafterכִּי־כָבֵדbecause grievousהוּאitמְאֹד׃exceedingly

    And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.

32. 32

    וְעַלand uponהִשָּׁנוֹתthe being repeated ofהַחֲלוֹםthe dreamאֶל־פַּרְעֹהto Pharaohפַּעֲמָיִםtwo timesכִּי־נָכוֹןbecause establishedהַדָּבָרthe thingמֵעִםfromהָאֱלֹהִיםGodוּמְמַהֵרand will hastenהָאֱלֹהִיםGodלַעֲשֹׂתוֹ׃to do it

    And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

33. 33

    וְעַתָּהand nowיֵרֶאlet look outפַרְעֹהPharaohאִישׁa manנָבוֹןdiscerningוְחָכָםand a wiseוִישִׁיתֵהוּand set himעַל־אֶרֶץconcerning the land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

34. 34

    יַעֲשֶׂהlet doפַרְעֹהPharaohוְיַפְקֵדand let him appointפְּקִדִיםoverseersעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landוְחִמֵּשׁand he will take a fifth ofאֶת־אֶרֶץland ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptבְּשֶׁבַעin sevenשְׁנֵיyears ofהַשָּׂבָע׃the plenty

    Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

35. 35

    וְיִקְבְּצוּand let them gatherאֶת־כׇּל־אֹכֶלall foodהַשָּׁנִיםthe yearsהַטֹּבוֹתthe goodהַבָּאֹתthat comeהָאֵלֶּהtheseוְיִצְבְּרוּ־בָרand let them lay up cornתַּחַתunderיַד־פַּרְעֹהhand of Pharaohאֹכֶלfoodבֶּעָרִיםin the citiesוְשָׁמָרוּ׃and they will keep it

    And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.

36. 36

    וְהָיָהand beהָאֹכֶלthe foodלְפִקָּדוֹןa storeלָאָרֶץfor the landלְשֶׁבַעfor sevenשְׁנֵיyears ofהָרָעָבthe famineאֲשֶׁרwhichתִּהְיֶיןָthey will beבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרָיִםEgyptוְלֹא־תִכָּרֵתand not it will be cut offהָאָרֶץthe landבָּרָעָב׃through the famine

    And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

37. 37

    וַיִּיטַבand it was goodהַדָּבָרthe thingבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofפַרְעֹהPharaohוּבְעֵינֵיand in the eyes ofכׇּל־עֲבָדָיו׃all his servants

    And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

38. 38

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶל־עֲבָדָיוto his servantsהֲנִמְצָאcan there be foundכָזֶהlike this oneאִישׁa manאֲשֶׁרwhichרוּחַthe spirit ofאֱלֹהִיםGodבּוֹ׃in him

    And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

39. 39

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶל־יוֹסֵףto Josephאַחֲרֵיafterהוֹדִיעַhas shewedאֱלֹהִיםGodאוֹתְךָyouאֶת־כׇּל־זֹאתall thisאֵין־נָבוֹןthere is none so discreetוְחָכָםand a wiseכָּמוֹךָ׃like you

    And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

40. 40

    אַתָּהyouתִּהְיֶהshall beעַל־בֵּיתִיupon my houseוְעַל־פִּיךָand according to your wordיִשַּׁקshall be ruledכׇּל־עַמִּיall my peopleרַקonlyהַכִּסֵּאthe throneאֶגְדַּלwill I be greaterמִמֶּךָּ׃from you

    Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

41. 41

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶל־יוֹסֵףto JosephרְאֵהbeholdנָתַתִּיI gaveאֹתְךָyouעַלuponכׇּל־אֶרֶץall land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

42. 42

    וַיָּסַרand took offפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶת־טַבַּעְתּוֹhis signet ringמֵעַלfrom uponיָדוֹhis handוַיִּתֵּןand gaveאֹתָהּitעַל־יַדupon the hand ofיוֹסֵףJosephוַיַּלְבֵּשׁand he clothedאֹתוֹhimבִּגְדֵי־שֵׁשׁgarments of fine linenוַיָּשֶׂםand putרְבִדthe chain ofהַזָּהָבthe goldעַל־צַוָּארוֹ׃upon his neck

    And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

43. 43

    וַיַּרְכֵּבand he made rideאֹתוֹhimבְּמִרְכֶּבֶתin the chariot ofהַמִּשְׁנֶהthe secondאֲשֶׁר־לוֹthat he hadוַיִּקְרְאוּand they calledלְפָנָיוbefore himאַבְרֵךְbend the kneeוְנָתוֹןand he setאֹתוֹhimעַלuponכׇּל־אֶרֶץall land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

44. 44

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֶל־יוֹסֵףto JosephאֲנִיIפַרְעֹהPharaohוּבִלְעָדֶיךָand other than youלֹא־יָרִיםnot he will lift upאִישׁa manאֶת־יָדוֹhis handוְאֶת־רַגְלוֹand his footבְּכׇל־אֶרֶץin all land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

45. 45

    וַיִּקְרָאand calledפַרְעֹהPharaohשֵׁם־יוֹסֵףname of JosephצָפְנַתZaphenath-פַּעְנֵחַPaneahוַיִּתֶּן־לוֹand gave to himאֶת־אָסְנַתAsenathבַּת־פּוֹטִיdaughter of Poti-פֶרַעpherahכֹּהֵןpriest ofאֹןOnלְאִשָּׁהfor wifeוַיֵּצֵאand went outיוֹסֵףJosephעַל־אֶרֶץover the land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-paaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

46. 46

    וְיוֹסֵףand Josephבֶּן־שְׁלֹשִׁיםson of thirtyשָׁנָהyearsבְּעׇמְדוֹwhen he stoodלִפְנֵיbeforeפַּרְעֹהPharaohמֶלֶךְ־מִצְרָיִםking of Egyptוַיֵּצֵאand went outיוֹסֵףJosephמִלִּפְנֵיfrom the presence ofפַרְעֹהPharaohוַיַּעֲבֹרand went throughoutבְּכׇל־אֶרֶץin all land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

47. 47

    וַתַּעַשׂand brought forthהָאָרֶץthe landבְּשֶׁבַעin sevenשְׁנֵיyears ofהַשָּׂבָעthe plentyלִקְמָצִים׃by handfuls

    And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.

48. 48

    וַיִּקְבֹּץand he gatheredאֶת־כׇּל־אֹכֶלall foodשֶׁבַעsevenשָׁנִיםyearsאֲשֶׁרwhichהָיוּwereבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptוַיִּתֶּן־אֹכֶלand laid up foodבֶּעָרִיםin the citiesאֹכֶלfoodשְׂדֵה־הָעִירthe field of the cityאֲשֶׁרwhichסְבִיבֹתֶיהָwas around itנָתַןhe laid upבְּתוֹכָהּ׃in its midst

    And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.

49. 49

    וַיִּצְבֹּרand he stored upיוֹסֵףJosephבָּרgrainכְּחוֹלas sand ofהַיָּםthe seaהַרְבֵּהmuchמְאֹדexceedinglyעַדuntilכִּי־חָדַלfor he leftלִסְפֹּרnumberכִּי־אֵיןfor it was withoutמִסְפָּר׃number

    And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.

50. 50

    וּלְיוֹסֵףand to Josephיֻלַּדwere bornשְׁנֵיtwoבָנִיםsonsבְּטֶרֶםbeforeתָּבוֹאcameשְׁנַתyear ofהָרָעָבthe famineאֲשֶׁרwhichיָלְדָה־לּוֹshe bore to himאָסְנַתAsenathבַּת־פּוֹטִיdaughter of Poti-פֶרַעpherahכֹּהֵןpriest ofאוֹן׃On

    And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.

51. 51

    וַיִּקְרָאand calledיוֹסֵףJosephאֶת־שֵׁםname ofהַבְּכוֹרthe firstbornמְנַשֶּׁהManassehכִּי־נַשַּׁנִיbecause has made forget meאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־כׇּל־עֲמָלִיall my toilוְאֵתandכׇּל־בֵּיתall house ofאָבִי׃my father

    And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.

52. 52

    וְאֵתandשֵׁםthe name ofהַשֵּׁנִיthe secondקָרָאcalledאֶפְרָיִםEphraimכִּי־הִפְרַנִיbecause has made fruitful meאֱלֹהִיםGodבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofעׇנְיִי׃my affliction

    And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

53. 53

    וַתִּכְלֶינָהand they came to an endשֶׁבַעsevenשְׁנֵיyears ofהַשָּׂבָעthe plentyאֲשֶׁרwhichהָיָהwasבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.

54. 54

    וַתְּחִלֶּינָהand they beganשֶׁבַעsevenשְׁנֵיyears ofהָרָעָבthe famineלָבוֹאto comeכַּאֲשֶׁרasאָמַרsaidיוֹסֵףJosephוַיְהִיand wasרָעָבfamineבְּכׇל־הָאֲרָצוֹתin all the landsוּבְכׇל־אֶרֶץand in all land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptהָיָהwasלָחֶם׃bread

    And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

55. 55

    וַתִּרְעַבand was famishedכׇּל־אֶרֶץall land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptוַיִּצְעַקand criedהָעָםthe peopleאֶל־פַּרְעֹהto Pharaohלַלָּחֶםfor breadוַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohלְכׇל־מִצְרַיִםto all Egyptלְכוּgoאֶל־יוֹסֵףto Josephאֲשֶׁר־יֹאמַרwhat he saysלָכֶםto youתַּעֲשׂוּ׃do

    And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.

56. 56

    וְהָרָעָבand the famineהָיָהwasעַלuponכׇּל־פְּנֵיall face ofהָאָרֶץthe landוַיִּפְתַּחand he openedיוֹסֵףJosephאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall thatבָּהֶםin themוַיִּשְׁבֹּרand he soldלְמִצְרַיִםto Egyptוַיֶּחֱזַקand waxed soreהָרָעָבthe famineבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרָיִם׃Egypt

    And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

57. 57

    וְכׇל־הָאָרֶץand all the landבָּאוּcameמִצְרַיְמָהto Egyptלִשְׁבֹּרto buyאֶל־יוֹסֵףto Josephכִּי־חָזַקbecause it was severeהָרָעָבthe famineבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃in all the land

    And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.
