Genesis 40 בְּרֵאשִׁית פרק מ׳

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passאַחַרa/CHARafterהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseחָטְאוּcha/te/Usinnedמַשְׁקֵהmash/KEthe cupbearer ofמֶלֶךְ־מִצְרַיִםME/lekh-Mits/RA/yimthe king of Egyptוְהָאֹפֶהve/ha/o/FEand the bakerלַאֲדֹנֵיהֶםla/a/do/ne/HEMagainst their lordלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhthe king ofמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimEgypt

   And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.

   וַיִּקְצֹףvay/yik/TSOFand was wrothפַּרְעֹהPar/OPharaohעַלalagainstשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwo ofסָרִיסָיוsa/ri/SAYVhis officersעַלalagainstשַׂרsarthe chief ofהַמַּשְׁקִיםham/mash/KIMthe cupbearersוְעַלve/ALand againstשַׂרsarthe chief ofהָאוֹפִים׃ha/o/FIMthe bakers

   And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

   וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveאֹתָםo/TAMthemבְּמִשְׁמַרbe/mish/MARin custody inבֵּיתbetthe house ofשַׂרsarthe captain ofהַטַּבָּחִיםhat/tab/ba/CHIMthe guardאֶל־בֵּיתel-betinto the house ofהַסֹּהַרhas/SO/harthe prisonמְקוֹםme/KOMthe placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephאָסוּרa/SURwas boundשָׁם׃shamthere

   And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

   וַיִּפְקֹדvay/yif/KODand chargedשַׂרsarthe captain ofהַטַּבָּחִיםhat/tab/ba/CHIMthe guardאֶת־יוֹסֵףet-Yo/SEFJosephאִתָּםit/TAMwith themוַיְשָׁרֶתvay/SHA/retand he servedאֹתָםo/TAMthemוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereיָמִיםya/MIMa seasonבְּמִשְׁמָר׃be/mish/MARin custody

   And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.

   וַיַּחַלְמוּvay/ya/chal/MUand they dreamedחֲלוֹםcha/LOMa dreamשְׁנֵיהֶםshe/ne/HEMboth of themאִישׁisheach manחֲלֹמוֹcha/lo/MOhis dreamבְּלַיְלָהbe/LAY/lain nightאֶחָדe/CHADoneאִישׁisheach manכְּפִתְרוֹןke/fit/RONaccording to the interpretation ofחֲלֹמוֹcha/lo/MOhis dreamהַמַּשְׁקֶהham/mash/KEthe cupbearerוְהָאֹפֶהve/ha/o/FEand the bakerאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhof the king ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאֲסוּרִיםa/su/RIMwere boundבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofהַסֹּהַר׃has/SO/harthe prison

   And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.

   וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephבַּבֹּקֶרbab/BO/kerin the morningוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawאֹתָםo/TAMthemוְהִנָּםve/hin/NAMand behold theyזֹעֲפִים׃zo/a/FIMwere sad

   And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.

   וַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedאֶת־סְרִיסֵיet-se/ri/SEthe officers ofפַרְעֹהFar/OPharaohאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereאִתּוֹit/TOwith himבְמִשְׁמַרve/mish/MARin the custody ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofאֲדֹנָיוa/do/NAYVhis masterלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyפְּנֵיכֶםpe/ne/KHEMyour facesרָעִיםra/IMsadהַיּוֹם׃hay/YOMtoday

   And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?

8. 8

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himחֲלוֹםcha/LOMa dreamחָלַמְנוּcha/LAM/nuwe have dreamedוּפֹתֵרu/fo/TERand an interpreterאֵיןenthere is noאֹתוֹo/TOfor itוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephהֲלוֹאha/LOare notלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMGod'sפִּתְרֹנִיםpit/ro/NIMinterpretationsסַפְּרוּ־נָאsap/pe/RU-natell I prayלִי׃lime

   And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.

9. 9

   וַיְסַפֵּרvay/sap/PERand toldשַׂר־הַמַּשְׁקִיםsar-ham/mash/KIMthe chief cupbearerאֶת־חֲלֹמוֹet-cha/lo/MOhis dreamלְיוֹסֵףle/Yo/SEFto Josephוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himבַּחֲלוֹמִיba/cha/lo/MIin my dreamוְהִנֵּה־גֶפֶןve/hin/NE-GE/fenand behold a vineלְפָנָי׃le/fa/NAYbefore me

   And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

10. 10

    וּבַגֶּפֶןu/vag/GE/fenand in the vineשְׁלֹשָׁהshe/lo/SHAthreeשָׂרִיגִםsa/ri/GIMbranchesוְהִואve/HIVand itכְפֹרַחַתkhe/fo/RA/chatas though it buddedעָלְתָהa/le/TAshot forthנִצָּהּnits/TSAits blossomsהִבְשִׁילוּhiv/SHI/lubrought forth ripeאַשְׁכְּלֹתֶיהָash/ke/lo/TE/haits clustersעֲנָבִים׃a/na/VIMgrapes

    And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

11. 11

    וְכוֹסve/KHOSand the cup ofפַּרְעֹהPar/OPharaohבְּיָדִיbe/ya/DIwas in my handוָאֶקַּחva/ek/KACHand I tookאֶת־הָעֲנָבִיםet-ha/a/na/VIMthe grapesוָאֶשְׂחַטva/es/CHATand pressedאֹתָםo/TAMthemאֶל־כּוֹסel-kosinto the cup ofפַּרְעֹהPar/OPharaohוָאֶתֵּןva/et/TENand I gaveאֶת־הַכּוֹסet-hak/KOSthe cupעַל־כַּףal-kafinto the hand ofפַּרְעֹה׃Par/OPharaoh

    And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephזֶהzethisפִּתְרֹנוֹpit/ro/NOis its interpretationשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeהַשָּׂרִגִיםhas/sa/ri/GIMthe branchesשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysהֵם׃hemare

    And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:

13. 13

    בְּעוֹדbe/ODyet withinשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysיִשָּׂאyis/SAshall lift upפַרְעֹהFar/OPharaohאֶת־רֹאשֶׁךָet-ro/SHE/khayour headוַהֲשִׁיבְךָva/ha/shi/ve/KHAand restore youעַל־כַּנֶּךָal-kan/NE/khato your placeוְנָתַתָּve/na/tat/TAand you shall deliverכוֹס־פַּרְעֹהkhos-Par/Othe cup of Pharaohבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOinto his handכַּמִּשְׁפָּטkam/mish/PATafter the mannerהָרִאשׁוֹןha/ri/SHONthe firstאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhenהָיִיתָha/YI/tayou wereמַשְׁקֵהוּ׃mash/KE/huhis cupbearer

    Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

14. 14

    כִּיkibutאִם־זְכַרְתַּנִיim-ze/khar/TA/niremember meאִתְּךָit/te/KHAwith youכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיִיטַבyi/TAVit shall be wellלָךְlakhwith youוְעָשִׂיתָ־נָּאve/a/SI/ta-naand show I prayעִמָּדִיim/ma/DIto meחָסֶדCHA/sedkindnessוְהִזְכַּרְתַּנִיve/hiz/kar/TA/niand make mention of meאֶל־פַּרְעֹהel-Par/Oto Pharaohוְהוֹצֵאתַנִיve/ho/tse/TA/niand bring me outמִן־הַבַּיִתmin-hab/BA/yitout of the houseהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:

15. 15

    כִּי־גֻנֹּבki-gun/NOVfor stolenגֻּנַּבְתִּיgun/NAV/tiI was stolen awayמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofהָעִבְרִיםha/Iv/RIMthe Hebrewsוְגַם־פֹּהve/GAM-poand also hereלֹא־עָשִׂיתִיlo-a/SI/tiI have not doneמְאוּמָהme/U/maanythingכִּי־שָׂמוּki-sa/MUthat they should putאֹתִיo/TImeבַּבּוֹר׃bab/BORinto the dungeon

    For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

16. 16

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawשַׂר־הָאֹפִיםsar-ha/o/FIMthe chief bakerכִּיkithatטוֹבtovgoodפָּתָרpa/TARhe had interpretedוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־יוֹסֵףel-Yo/SEFto Josephאַף־אֲנִיaf-a/NII alsoבַּחֲלוֹמִיba/cha/lo/MIin my dreamוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdשְׁלֹשָׁהshe/lo/SHAthreeסַלֵּיsal/LEbaskets ofחֹרִיcho/RIwhite breadעַל־רֹאשִׁי׃al-ro/SHIupon my head

    When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:

17. 17

    וּבַסַּלu/vas/SALand in the basketהָעֶלְיוֹןha/el/YONthe upperמִכֹּלmik/KOLof allמַאֲכַלma/a/KHALthe food ofפַּרְעֹהPar/OPharaohמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofאֹפֶהo/FEa bakerוְהָעוֹףve/ha/OFand the birdsאֹכֵלo/KHELdid eatאֹתָםo/TAMthemמִן־הַסַּלmin-has/SALfrom the basketמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponרֹאשִׁי׃ro/SHImy head

    And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

18. 18

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidזֶהzethisפִּתְרֹנוֹpit/ro/NOis its interpretationשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeהַסַּלִּיםhas/sal/LIMthe basketsשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysהֵם׃hemare

    And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:

19. 19

    בְּעוֹדbe/ODyet withinשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysיִשָּׂאyis/SAshall lift upפַרְעֹהFar/OPharaohאֶת־רֹאשְׁךָet-ro/she/KHAyour headמֵעָלֶיךָme/a/LE/khafrom off youוְתָלָהve/ta/LAand shall hangאוֹתְךָot/KHAyouעַל־עֵץal-etson a treeוְאָכַלve/a/KHALand shall eatהָעוֹףha/OFthe birdsאֶת־בְּשָׂרְךָet-be/sa/re/KHAyour fleshמֵעָלֶיךָ׃me/a/LE/khafrom off you

    Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

20. 20

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַשְּׁלִישִׁיhash/she/li/SHIthe thirdיוֹםyomthe dayהֻלֶּדֶתhul/LE/detof the birth ofאֶת־פַּרְעֹהet-Par/OPharaohוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeמִשְׁתֶּהmish/TEa feastלְכׇל־עֲבָדָיוle/KHOL-a/va/DAYVfor all his servantsוַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand he lifted upאֶת־רֹאשׁet-roshthe head ofשַׂרsarthe chief ofהַמַּשְׁקִיםham/mash/KIMthe cupbearersוְאֶת־רֹאשׁve/ET-roshand the head ofשַׂרsarthe chief ofהָאֹפִיםha/o/FIMthe bakersבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongעֲבָדָיו׃a/va/DAYVhis servants

    And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

21. 21

    וַיָּשֶׁבvay/YA/shevand he restoredאֶת־שַׂרet-sarthe chief ofהַמַּשְׁקִיםham/mash/KIMthe cupbearersעַל־מַשְׁקֵהוּal-mash/KE/huto his cupbearingוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveהַכּוֹסhak/KOSthe cupעַל־כַּףal-kafinto the hand ofפַּרְעֹה׃Par/OPharaoh

    And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:

22. 22

    וְאֵתve/ETbutשַׂרsarthe chief ofהָאֹפִיםha/o/FIMthe bakersתָּלָהta/LAhe hangedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasפָּתַרpa/TARhad interpretedלָהֶםla/HEMto themיוֹסֵף׃Yo/SEFJoseph

    But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.

23. 23

    וְלֹא־זָכַרve/LO-za/KHARyet did not rememberשַׂר־הַמַּשְׁקִיםsar-ham/mash/KIMthe chief cupbearerאֶת־יוֹסֵףet-Yo/SEFJosephוַיִּשְׁכָּחֵהוּ׃vay/yish/ka/CHE/hubut forgot him

    Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
