    וְיוֹסֵףand Josephהוּרַדwas brought downמִצְרָיְמָהto Egyptוַיִּקְנֵהוּand he bought himפּוֹטִיפַרPotipharסְרִיסan official ofפַּרְעֹהPharaohשַׂרcaptain ofהַטַּבָּחִיםthe guardאִישׁa manמִצְרִיan Egyptianמִיַּדfrom the hand ofהַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִיםthe Ishmaelitesאֲשֶׁרwhichהוֹרִדֻהוּhad brought him downשָׁמָּה׃there

    And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.

    וַיְהִיand wasיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־יוֹסֵףwith Josephוַיְהִיand wasאִישׁa manמַצְלִיחַprosperousוַיְהִיand wasבְּבֵיתin the house ofאֲדֹנָיוhis masterהַמִּצְרִי׃the Egyptian

    And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

    וַיַּרְאand sawאֲדֹנָיוhis masterכִּיthatיְהֹוָהthe LORDאִתּוֹwith himוְכֹלand allאֲשֶׁר־הוּאwhich heעֹשֶׂהdoesיְהֹוָהthe LORDמַצְלִיחַmade prosperבְּיָדוֹ׃in his hand

    And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

    וַיִּמְצָאand foundיוֹסֵףJosephחֵןfavorבְּעֵינָיוin his eyesוַיְשָׁרֶתand he servedאֹתוֹhimוַיַּפְקִדֵהוּand he appointed himעַל־בֵּיתוֹupon his householdוְכׇל־יֶשׁ־לוֹand all that he hadנָתַןhe putבְּיָדוֹ׃in his hand

    And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

    וַיְהִיand wasמֵאָזsinceהִפְקִידhe appointedאֹתוֹhimבְּבֵיתוֹin his houseוְעַלand uponכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall thatיֶשׁ־לוֹhe hadוַיְבָרֶךְand blessedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־בֵּיתhouse ofהַמִּצְרִיthe Egyptianבִּגְלַלon account ofיוֹסֵףJosephוַיְהִיand wasבִּרְכַּתblessing ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDבְּכׇל־אֲשֶׁרin all thatיֶשׁ־לוֹhe hadבַּבַּיִתin the houseוּבַשָּׂדֶה׃and in the field

    And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

    וַיַּעֲזֹבand he leftכׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹall that he hadבְּיַד־יוֹסֵףin the hand of Josephוְלֹא־יָדַעand not he knewאִתּוֹwith himמְאוּמָהanythingכִּיthatאִם־הַלֶּחֶםbut the breadאֲשֶׁר־הוּאwhich heאוֹכֵלhe eatsוַיְהִיand wasיוֹסֵףJosephיְפֵה־תֹאַרhandsome of formוִיפֵהand handsome ofמַרְאֶה׃appearance

    And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passאַחַרafterהַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוַתִּשָּׂאand she lifted upאֵשֶׁת־אֲדֹנָיוthe wife of his masterאֶת־עֵינֶיהָher eyesאֶל־יוֹסֵףto Josephוַתֹּאמֶרand saidשִׁכְבָהlieעִמִּי׃with me

    And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

    וַיְמָאֵןand he refusedוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־אֵשֶׁתto the wife ofאֲדֹנָיוhis masterהֵןbeholdאֲדֹנִיmy masterלֹא־יָדַעnot he knewאִתִּיwith meמַה־בַּבָּיִתwhat in the houseוְכֹלand allאֲשֶׁר־יֶשׁ־לוֹthat he hasנָתַןhe has putבְּיָדִי׃by my hand

    But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;

    אֵינֶנּוּthere is noneגָדוֹלgreaterבַּבַּיִתin the houseהַזֶּהthisמִמֶּנִּיfrom meוְלֹא־חָשַׂךְand not he has withheldמִמֶּנִּיfrom meמְאוּמָהanythingכִּיbecauseאִם־אוֹתָךְbut youבַּאֲשֶׁרbecauseאַתְּ־אִשְׁתּוֹyou are his wifeוְאֵיךְand howאֶעֱשֶׂהI doהָרָעָהthe evilהַגְּדֹלָהthe greatהַזֹּאתthisוְחָטָאתִיand I will sinלֵאלֹהִים׃against God

    There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכְּדַבְּרָהּas she spokeאֶל־יוֹסֵףto Josephיוֹםdayיוֹםdayוְלֹא־שָׁמַעand he hearkened notאֵלֶיהָto herלִשְׁכַּבto lie downאֶצְלָהּher besideלִהְיוֹתto beעִמָּהּ׃with her

    And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכְּהַיּוֹםabout this timeהַזֶּהthisוַיָּבֹאand cameהַבַּיְתָהinto the houseלַעֲשׂוֹתto doמְלַאכְתּוֹhis workוְאֵיןand there was noאִישׁmanמֵאַנְשֵׁיof the men ofהַבַּיִתthe houseשָׁםthereבַּבָּיִת׃in the house

    And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

    וַתִּתְפְּשֵׂהוּand she seized himבְּבִגְדוֹby his garmentלֵאמֹרsayingשִׁכְבָהlieעִמִּיwith meוַיַּעֲזֹבand he leftבִּגְדוֹhis garmentבְּיָדָהּin her handוַיָּנׇסand he fledוַיֵּצֵאand went outהַחוּצָה׃outside

    And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכִּרְאוֹתָהּwhen she sawכִּי־עָזַבthat he had leftבִּגְדוֹhis garmentבְּיָדָהּin her handוַיָּנׇסand he fledהַחוּצָה׃outside

    And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

    וַתִּקְרָאand calledלְאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofבֵיתָהּher householdוַתֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםto themלֵאמֹרsayingרְאוּseeהֵבִיאhe has broughtלָנוּto usאִישׁa manעִבְרִיHebrewלְצַחֶקto mockבָּנוּat usבָּאcameאֵלַיto meלִשְׁכַּבto lie downעִמִּיwith meוָאֶקְרָאand I calledבְּקוֹלwith a voiceגָּדוֹל׃loud

    That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכְשׇׁמְעוֹwhen he heardכִּי־הֲרִימֹתִיthat I lifted upקוֹלִיmy voiceוָאֶקְרָאand I calledוַיַּעֲזֹבand he leftבִּגְדוֹhis garmentאֶצְלִיbeside meוַיָּנׇסand he fledוַיֵּצֵאand went outהַחוּצָה׃outside

    And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.

  16. 16

    וַתַּנַּחand she placedבִּגְדוֹhis garmentאֶצְלָהּher besideעַד־בּוֹאuntil cameאֲדֹנָיוhis masterאֶל־בֵּיתוֹ׃to his house

    And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.

  17. 17

    וַתְּדַבֵּרand she spokeאֵלָיוto himכַּדְּבָרִיםaccording to the wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseלֵאמֹרsayingבָּא־אֵלַיcame to meהָעֶבֶדthe servantהָעִבְרִיthe Hebrewאֲשֶׁר־הֵבֵאתָwhom you broughtלָּנוּto usלְצַחֶקto mockבִּי׃me

    And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכַּהֲרִימִיwhen I lifted upקוֹלִיmy voiceוָאֶקְרָאand I calledוַיַּעֲזֹבand he leftבִּגְדוֹhis garmentאֶצְלִיbeside meוַיָּנׇסand he fledהַחוּצָה׃outside

    And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.

  19. 19

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכִשְׁמֹעַwhen heardאֲדֹנָיוhis masterאֶת־דִּבְרֵיthe words ofאִשְׁתּוֹhis wifeאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבְּרָהspokeאֵלָיוto himלֵאמֹרsayingכַּדְּבָרִיםaccording to the wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseעָשָׂהhe madeלִיto meעַבְדֶּךָyour servantוַיִּחַרand was kindledאַפּוֹ׃his wrath

    And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

  20. 20

    וַיִּקַּחand tookאֲדֹנֵיthe master ofיוֹסֵףJosephאֹתוֹhimוַיִּתְּנֵהוּand put himאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofהַסֹּהַרthe prisonמְקוֹםthe placeאֲשֶׁר־[אֲסִירֵי]which the prisoners ofהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingאֲסוּרִיםwere boundוַיְהִי־שָׁםand he was thereבְּבֵיתin the house ofהַסֹּהַר׃the prison

    And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

  21. 21

    וַיְהִיand wasיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־יוֹסֵףwith Josephוַיֵּטand showedאֵלָיוto himחָסֶדmercyוַיִּתֵּןand gaveחִנּוֹhis favorבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofשַׂרthe keeper ofבֵּית־הַסֹּהַר׃house of the prison

    But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

  22. 22

    וַיִּתֵּןand gaveשַׂרthe keeper ofבֵּית־הַסֹּהַרhouse of the prisonבְּיַד־יוֹסֵףin the hand of Josephאֵת־כׇּל־הָאֲסִירִםall the prisonersאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּבֵיתin the house ofהַסֹּהַרthe prisonוְאֵתandכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall thatעֹשִׂיםthey didשָׁםthereהוּאheהָיָהwasעֹשֶׂה׃was the doer

    And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

  23. 23

    אֵיןnotשַׂרthe keeper ofבֵּית־הַסֹּהַרhouse of the prisonרֹאֶהlooked toאֶת־כׇּל־מְאוּמָהanything at allבְּיָדוֹin his handבַּאֲשֶׁרbecauseיְהֹוָהthe LORDאִתּוֹwith himוַאֲשֶׁר־הוּאand that which heעֹשֶׂהdidיְהֹוָהthe LORDמַצְלִיחַ׃made prosper

    The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
