Genesis 4 בְּרֵאשִׁית פרק ד׳

   וְהָאָדָםve/ha/a/DAMand the manיָדַעya/DAknewאֶת־חַוָּהet-Chav/VAEveאִשְׁתּוֹish/TOhis wifeוַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreאֶת־קַיִןet-KA/yinCainוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidקָנִיתִיka/NI/tiI have acquiredאִישׁisha manאֶת־יְהֹוָה׃et-Adonaiwith the LORD

   And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

   וַתֹּסֶףvat/TO/sefand she againלָלֶדֶתla/LE/detto bearאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherאֶת־הָבֶלet-HA/velAbelוַיְהִי־הֶבֶלvay/HI-HE/veland Abel wasרֹעֵהro/Ea keeper ofצֹאןtsonsheepוְקַיִןve/KA/yinbut Cainהָיָהha/YAwasעֹבֵדo/VEDa tiller ofאֲדָמָה׃a/da/MAthe ground

   And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִקֵּץmik/KETSat the end ofיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיָּבֵאvay/ya/VEthat broughtקַיִןKA/yinCainמִפְּרִיmip/pe/RIof the fruit ofהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe groundמִנְחָהmin/CHAan offeringלַיהֹוָה׃la-Adonaito the LORD

   And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

   וְהֶבֶלve/HE/veland Abelהֵבִיאhe/VIbroughtגַם־הוּאgam-huhe alsoמִבְּכֹרוֹתmib/be/kho/ROTof the firstlings ofצֹאנוֹtso/NOhis flockוּמֵחֶלְבֵהֶןu/me/chel/ve/HENand of their fatוַיִּשַׁעvay/YI/shaand had respectיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הֶבֶלel-HE/velupon Abelוְאֶל־מִנְחָתוֹ׃ve/EL-min/cha/TOand to his offering

   And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

   וְאֶל־קַיִןve/EL-KA/yinbut to Cainוְאֶל־מִנְחָתוֹve/EL-min/cha/TOand to his offeringלֹאlonotשָׁעָהsha/Ahad He respectוַיִּחַרvay/YI/charand was wrothלְקַיִןLe/KA/yinCainמְאֹדme/ODveryוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand fellפָּנָיו׃pa/NAYVhis countenance

   But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

6. 6

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־קָיִןel-KA/yinto CainלָמָּהLAM/mawhyחָרָהcha/RAare wrothלָךְlakhyouוְלָמָּהve/LAM/maand whyנָפְלוּna/fe/LUis fallenפָנֶיךָ׃fa/NE/khayour countenance

   And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

7. 7

   הֲלוֹאha/LOis there notאִם־תֵּיטִיבim-te/TIVif you do wellשְׂאֵתse/ETa lifting upוְאִםve/IMand ifלֹאlonotתֵיטִיבte/TIVyou do wellלַפֶּתַחlap/PE/tachat the doorחַטָּאתchat/TATsinרֹבֵץro/VETSliesוְאֵלֶיךָve/e/LE/khaand to youתְּשׁוּקָתוֹte/shu/ka/TOits desireוְאַתָּהve/at/TAbut youתִּמְשׇׁל־בּוֹ׃tim/SHOL-boshall rule over it

   If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand spokeקַיִןKA/yinCainאֶל־הֶבֶלel-HE/velwith Abelאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherוַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבִּהְיוֹתָםbih/yo/TAMwhen they wereבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komthat rose upקַיִןKA/yinCainאֶל־הֶבֶלel-HE/velagainst Abelאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherוַיַּהַרְגֵהוּ׃vay/ya/har/GE/huand slew him

   And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־קַיִןel-KA/yinto Cainאֵיewhere isהֶבֶלHE/velAbelאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidלֹאlonotיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowהֲשֹׁמֵרha/sho/MERthe keeper ofאָחִיa/CHImy brotherאָנֹכִי׃a/no/KHIam I

   And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand He saidמֶהmewhatעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tahave you doneקוֹלkolthe voice ofדְּמֵיde/MEthe blood ofאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherצֹעֲקִיםtso/a/KIMcriesאֵלַיe/LAYto meמִן־הָאֲדָמָה׃min-ha/a/da/MAfrom the ground

    And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

11. 11

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאָרוּרa/RURcursedאָתָּהAT/taare youמִן־הָאֲדָמָהmin-ha/a/da/MAfrom the groundאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichפָּצְתָהpa/tse/TAhas openedאֶת־פִּיהָet-PI/haher mouthלָקַחַתla/KA/chatto receiveאֶת־דְּמֵיet-de/MEthe blood ofאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherמִיָּדֶךָ׃miy/ya/DE/khafrom your hand

    And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

12. 12

    כִּיkiwhenתַעֲבֹדta/a/VODyou tillאֶת־הָאֲדָמָהet-ha/a/da/MAthe groundלֹא־תֹסֵףlo-to/SEFit shall not againתֵּת־כֹּחָהּtet-ko/CHAgive its strengthלָךְlakhto youנָעnaa fugitiveוָנָדva/NADand a wandererתִּהְיֶהtih/YEyou shall beבָאָרֶץ׃va/A/retsin the earth

    When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidקַיִןKA/yinCainאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreat isעֲוֺנִיa/vo/NImy punishmentמִנְּשׂוֹא׃min/ne/SOthan bearing

    And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

14. 14

    הֵןhenbeholdגֵּרַשְׁתָּge/RASH/taYou have drivenאֹתִיo/TImeהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthis dayמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe groundוּמִפָּנֶיךָu/mip/pa/NE/khaand from Your faceאֶסָּתֵרes/sa/TERI shall be hiddenוְהָיִיתִיve/ha/YI/tiand I shall beנָעnaa fugitiveוָנָדva/NADand a wandererבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the earthוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכׇל־מֹצְאִיkhol-mots/Ievery one that finds meיַהַרְגֵנִי׃ya/har/GE/nishall slay me

    Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכׇּל־הֹרֵגkol-ho/REGwhoever slaysקַיִןKA/yinCainשִׁבְעָתַיִםshiv/a/TA/yimsevenfoldיֻקָּםyuk/KAMshall be avengedוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand appointedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלְקַיִןle/KA/yinfor Cainאוֹתota markלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIlestהַכּוֹת־אֹתוֹhak/KOT-o/TOsmite himכׇּל־מֹצְאוֹ׃kol-mots/Oany finding him

    And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

16. 16

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outקַיִןKA/yinCainמִלִּפְנֵיmil/lif/NEfrom the presence ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand dweltבְּאֶרֶץ־נוֹדbe/E/rets-nodin the land of Nodקִדְמַת־עֵדֶן׃kid/MAT-E/deneast of Eden

    And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

17. 17

    וַיֵּדַעvay/YE/daand knewקַיִןKA/yinCainאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹet-ish/TOhis wifeוַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreאֶת־חֲנוֹךְet-Cha/NOKHEnochוַיְהִיvay/HIand he wasבֹּנֶהbo/NEbuildingעִירira cityוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledשֵׁםshemthe name ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityכְּשֵׁםke/SHEMafter the name ofבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonחֲנוֹךְ׃Cha/NOKHEnoch

    And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

18. 18

    וַיִּוָּלֵדvay/yiv/va/LEDand was bornלַחֲנוֹךְla/Cha/NOKHto Enochאֶת־עִירָדet-I/RADIradוְעִירָדve/I/RADand Iradיָלַדya/LADbegatאֶת־מְחוּיָאֵלet-Me/chu/ya/ELMehujaelוּמְחִיָּיאֵלu/Me/chiy/yay/ELand Mehujaelיָלַדya/LADbegatאֶת־מְתוּשָׁאֵלet-Me/tu/sha/ELMethusaelוּמְתוּשָׁאֵלu/Me/tu/sha/ELand Methusaelיָלַדya/LADbegatאֶת־לָמֶךְ׃et-LA/mekhLamech

    And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.

19. 19

    וַיִּקַּח־לוֹvay/yik/KACH-loand took to himלֶמֶךְLE/mekhLamechשְׁתֵּיshtetwoנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwivesשֵׁםshemthe name ofהָאַחַתha/a/CHATthe oneעָדָהA/DAAdahוְשֵׁםve/SHEMand the name ofהַשֵּׁנִיתhash/she/NITthe secondצִלָּה׃Tsil/LAZillah

    And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

20. 20

    וַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreעָדָהA/DAAdahאֶת־יָבָלet-Ya/VALJabalהוּאhuheהָיָהha/YAwasאֲבִיa/VIthe father ofיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVthose who dwell inאֹהֶלO/heltentsוּמִקְנֶה׃u/mik/NEand have livestock

    And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.

21. 21

    וְשֵׁםve/SHEMand the name ofאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherיוּבָלYu/VALJubalהוּאhuheהָיָהha/YAwasאֲבִיa/VIthe father ofכׇּל־תֹּפֵשׂkol-to/FESall who handleכִּנּוֹרkin/NORthe harpוְעוּגָב׃ve/u/GAVand pipe

    And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.

22. 22

    וְצִלָּהve/Tsil/LAand Zillahגַם־הִואgam-hivalso sheיָלְדָהya/le/DAboreאֶת־תּוּבַלet-TU/valTubal-קַיִןKA/yincainלֹטֵשׁlo/TESHa sharpener ofכׇּל־חֹרֵשׁkol-cho/RESHevery cutting tool ofנְחֹשֶׁתne/CHO/shetbronzeוּבַרְזֶלu/var/ZELand ironוַאֲחוֹתva/a/CHOTand the sister ofתּוּבַל־קַיִןTu/VAL-KA/yinTubal-cainנַעֲמָה׃Na/a/MANaamah

    And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלֶמֶךְLE/mekhLamechלְנָשָׁיוle/na/SHAYVto his wivesעָדָהA/DAAdahוְצִלָּהve/Tsil/LAand Zillahשְׁמַעַןshe/MA/anhearקוֹלִיko/LImy voiceנְשֵׁיne/SHEwives ofלֶמֶךְLE/mekhLamechהַאְזֵנָּהha/ZEN/nahearken toאִמְרָתִיim/ra/TImy speechכִּיkiforאִישׁisha manהָרַגְתִּיha/RAG/tiI have slainלְפִצְעִיle/fits/Ifor my woundingוְיֶלֶדve/YE/ledand a young manלְחַבֻּרָתִי׃le/chab/bu/ra/TIfor my hurt

    And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

24. 24

    כִּיkiifשִׁבְעָתַיִםshiv/a/TA/yimsevenfoldיֻקַּם־קָיִןYuk/KAM-KA/yinCain shall be avengedוְלֶמֶךְve/LE/mekhand Lamechשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyוְשִׁבְעָה׃ve/shiv/Aand seven

    If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

25. 25

    וַיֵּדַעvay/YE/daand knewאָדָםA/DAMAdamעוֹדodagainאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹet-ish/TOhis wifeוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand she boreבֵּןbena sonוַתִּקְרָאvat/tik/RAand calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹet-she/MOhis nameשֵׁתShetSethכִּיkiforשָׁת־לִיshat-lihas appointed meאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodזֶרַעZE/raseedאַחֵרa/CHERanotherתַּחַתTA/chatinstead ofהֶבֶלHE/velAbelכִּיkiforהֲרָגוֹha/ra/GOslew himקָיִן׃KA/yinCain

    And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

26. 26

    וּלְשֵׁתu/Le/SHETand to Sethגַּם־הוּאgam-hualso to himיֻלַּד־בֵּןyul/LAD-benwas born a sonוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹet-she/MOhis nameאֱנוֹשׁE/NOSHEnosאָזazthenהוּחַלhu/CHALit was begunלִקְרֹאlik/ROto callבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMupon the name ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
