   Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2. 2

   וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanאֶל־הַנָּחָשׁel-han/na/CHASHto the serpentמִפְּרִיmip/pe/RIof the fruit ofעֵץ־הַגָּןets-hag/GANthe trees of the gardenנֹאכֵל׃no/KHELwe may eat

   And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

   וּמִפְּרִיu/mip/pe/RIbut of the fruit ofהָעֵץha/ETSthe treeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isבְּתוֹךְ־הַגָּןbe/TOKH-hag/GANin the midst of the gardenאָמַרa/MARhas saidאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלֹאlonotתֹאכְלוּto/khe/LUyou shall eatמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufrom itוְלֹאve/LOnorתִגְּעוּtig/ge/Ushall you touchבּוֹboitפֶּן־תְּמֻתוּן׃pen-te/mu/TUNlest you die

   But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4. 4

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַנָּחָשׁhan/na/CHASHthe serpentאֶל־הָאִשָּׁהel-ha/ish/SHAto the womanלֹא־מוֹתlo-motnot dieתְּמֻתוּן׃te/mu/TUNyou shall die

   And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5. 5

   כִּיkiforיֹדֵעַyo/DE/aknowsאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodכִּיkithatבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the dayאֲכׇלְכםa/KHOLKHMyou eatמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof itוְנִפְקְחוּve/nif/ke/CHUthen shall be openedעֵינֵיכֶםe/ne/KHEMyour eyesוִהְיִיתֶםvih/yi/TEMand you shall beכֵּאלֹהִיםke/lo/HIMlike Godיֹדְעֵיyod/Eknowingטוֹבtovgoodוָרָע׃va/RAand evil

   For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

   וַתֵּרֶאvat/TE/reand sawהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanכִּיkithatטוֹבtovgoodהָעֵץha/ETSthe treeלְמַאֲכָלle/ma/a/KHALfor foodוְכִיve/KHIand thatתַאֲוָה־הוּאta/a/VA-huit was a delightלָעֵינַיִםla/e/NA/yimto the eyesוְנֶחְמָדve/nech/MADand to be desiredהָעֵץha/ETSthe treeלְהַשְׂכִּילle/has/KILto make one wiseוַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookמִפִּרְיוֹmip/pir/YOof its fruitוַתֹּאכַלvat/TO/khaland ateוַתִּתֵּןvat/tit/TENand she gaveגַּם־לְאִישָׁהּgam-le/i/SHAalso to her husbandעִמָּהּim/MAwith herוַיֹּאכַל׃vay/YO/khaland he ate

   And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

   וַתִּפָּקַחְנָהvat/tip/pa/KACH/naand were openedעֵינֵיe/NEthe eyes ofשְׁנֵיהֶםshe/ne/HEMthe two of themוַיֵּדְעוּvay/yed/Uand they knewכִּיkithatעֵירֻמִּםe/rum/MIMnakedהֵםhemthey wereוַיִּתְפְּרוּvay/yit/pe/RUand they sewedעֲלֵהa/LEleaves ofתְאֵנָהte/e/NAfigוַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand madeלָהֶםla/HEMthemselvesחֲגֹרֹת׃cha/go/ROTgirdles

   And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

   וַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand they heardאֶת־קוֹלet-kolthe voice ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodמִתְהַלֵּךְmit/hal/LEKHwalkingבַּגָּןbag/GANin the gardenלְרוּחַle/RU/achin the breeze ofהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayוַיִּתְחַבֵּאvay/yit/chab/BEand hidהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manוְאִשְׁתּוֹve/ish/TOand his wifeמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfrom the presence ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamidעֵץetsthe trees ofהַגָּן׃hag/GANthe garden

   And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9. 9

   וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶל־הָאָדָםel-ha/a/DAMto the manוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himאַיֶּכָּה׃ay/YEK/kawhere are you

   And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֶת־קֹלְךָet-kol/KHAYour voiceשָׁמַעְתִּיsha/MA/tiI heardבַּגָּןbag/GANin the gardenוָאִירָאva/i/RAand I was afraidכִּי־עֵירֹםki-e/ROMbecause nakedאָנֹכִיa/no/KHII wasוָאֵחָבֵא׃va/e/cha/VEand I hid myself

    And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand He saidמִיmiwhoהִגִּידhig/GIDtoldלְךָle/KHAyouכִּיkithatעֵירֹםe/ROMnakedאָתָּהAT/tayou wereהֲמִן־הָעֵץha/MIN-ha/ETSis it from the treeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatצִוִּיתִיךָtsiv/vi/TI/khaI commanded youלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TInotאֲכׇל־מִמֶּנּוּa/KHOL-mim/MEN/nuto eat of itאָכָלְתָּ׃a/KHAL/tahave you eaten

    And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomנָתַתָּהna/TAT/taYou gaveעִמָּדִיim/ma/DIto be with meהִואhivsheנָתְנָה־לִּיna/te/NA-ligave meמִן־הָעֵץmin-ha/ETSof the treeוָאֹכֵל׃va/o/KHELand I ate

    And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלָאִשָּׁהla/ish/SHAto the womanמַה־זֹּאתma-zotwhat is thisעָשִׂיתa/SITyou have doneוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanהַנָּחָשׁhan/na/CHASHthe serpentהִשִּׁיאַנִיhish/shi/A/nibeguiled meוָאֹכֵל׃va/o/KHELand I ate

    And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶל־הַנָּחָשׁel-han/na/CHASHto the serpentכִּיkibecauseעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tayou have doneזֹּאתzotthisאָרוּרa/RURcursedאַתָּהat/TAare youמִכׇּל־הַבְּהֵמָהmik/KOL-hab/be/he/MAabove all the livestockוּמִכֹּלu/mik/KOLand above everyחַיַּתchay/YATbeast ofהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEthe fieldעַל־גְּחֹנְךָal-ge/chon/KHAon your bellyתֵלֵךְte/LEKHyou shall goוְעָפָרve/a/FARand dustתֹּאכַלto/KHALyou shall eatכׇּל־יְמֵיkol-ye/MEall the days ofחַיֶּיךָ׃chay/YE/khayour life

    And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15. 15

    וְאֵיבָהve/e/VAand enmityאָשִׁיתa/SHITI will putבֵּינְךָbe/ne/KHAbetween youוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenזַרְעֲךָzar/a/KHAyour seedוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenזַרְעָהּzar/Aher seedהוּאhuheיְשׁוּפְךָye/shuf/KHAshall bruise youרֹאשׁroshheadוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youתְּשׁוּפֶנּוּte/shu/FEN/nushall bruise himעָקֵב׃a/KEVheel

    And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16. 16

    אֶל־הָאִשָּׁהel-ha/ish/SHAto the womanאָמַרa/MARHe saidהַרְבָּהhar/BAmultiplyאַרְבֶּהar/BEI will multiplyעִצְּבוֹנֵךְits/tse/vo/NEKHyour sorrowוְהֵרֹנֵךְve/he/ro/NEKHand your conceptionבְּעֶצֶבbe/E/tsevin sorrowתֵּלְדִיtel/DIyou shall bring forthבָנִיםva/NIMchildrenוְאֶל־אִישֵׁךְve/EL-i/SHEKHand to your husbandתְּשׁוּקָתֵךְte/shu/ka/TEKHyour desireוְהוּאve/HUand heיִמְשׇׁל־בָּךְ׃yim/SHOL-bakhshall rule over you

    Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17. 17

    וּלְאָדָםu/Le/a/DAMand to Adamאָמַרa/MARHe saidכִּי־שָׁמַעְתָּki-sha/MA/tabecause you have hearkenedלְקוֹלle/KOLto the voice ofאִשְׁתֶּךָish/TE/khayour wifeוַתֹּאכַלvat/TO/khaland have eatenמִן־הָעֵץmin-ha/ETSfrom the treeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERof whichצִוִּיתִיךָtsiv/vi/TI/khaI commanded youלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹאlonotתֹאכַלto/KHALyou shall eatמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof itאֲרוּרָהa/ru/RAcursed isהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe groundבַּעֲבוּרֶךָba/a/vu/RE/khafor your sakeבְּעִצָּבוֹןbe/its/tsa/VONin sorrowתֹּאכְלֶנָּהto/khe/LEN/nayou shall eat of itכֹּלkolallיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofחַיֶּיךָ׃chay/YE/khayour life

    And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18. 18

    וְקוֹץve/KOTSand thornsוְדַרְדַּרve/dar/DARand thistlesתַּצְמִיחַtats/MI/achshall it bring forthלָךְlakhto youוְאָכַלְתָּve/a/khal/TAand you shall eatאֶת־עֵשֶׂבet-E/sevthe herb ofהַשָּׂדֶה׃has/sa/DEthe field

    Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19. 19

    בְּזֵעַתbe/ze/ATby the sweat ofאַפֶּיךָap/PE/khayour faceתֹּאכַלto/KHALyou shall eatלֶחֶםLE/chembreadעַדadtillשׁוּבְךָshuv/KHAyou returnאֶל־הָאֲדָמָהel-ha/a/da/MAto the groundכִּיkiforמִמֶּנָּהmim/MEN/naout of itלֻקָּחְתָּluk/KACH/tayou were takenכִּי־עָפָרki-a/FARfor dustאַתָּהat/TAyou areוְאֶל־עָפָרve/EL-a/FARand to dustתָּשׁוּב׃ta/SHUVyou shall return

    In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

20. 20

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manשֵׁםshemthe name ofאִשְׁתּוֹish/TOhis wifeחַוָּהChav/VAEveכִּיkibecauseהִואhivsheהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasאֵםemthe mother ofכׇּל־חָי׃kol-chayall living

    And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21. 21

    וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand madeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלְאָדָםle/A/DAMfor Adamוּלְאִשְׁתּוֹu/le/ish/TOand his wifeכׇּתְנוֹתkot/NOTcoats ofעוֹרorskinsוַיַּלְבִּשֵׁם׃vay/yal/bi/SHEMand clothed them

    Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodהֵןhenbeholdהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manהָיָהha/YAis becomeכְּאַחַדke/a/CHADas oneמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof usלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowטוֹבtovgoodוָרָעva/RAand evilוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowפֶּן־יִשְׁלַחpen-yish/LACHlest he put forthיָדוֹya/DOhis handוְלָקַחve/la/KACHand takeגַּםgamalsoמֵעֵץme/ETSof the tree ofהַחַיִּיםha/chay/YIMlifeוְאָכַלve/a/KHALand eatוָחַיva/CHAYand liveלְעֹלָם׃le/o/LAMforever

    And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23. 23

    וַיְשַׁלְּחֵהוּvay/shal/le/CHE/huand sent him forthיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodמִגַּן־עֵדֶןmig/GAN-E/denfrom the garden of Edenלַעֲבֹדla/a/VODto tillאֶת־הָאֲדָמָהet-ha/a/da/MAthe groundאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֻקַּחluk/KACHhe had been takenמִשָּׁם׃mish/SHAMfrom there

    Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24. 24

    וַיְגָרֶשׁvay/GA/reshand He drove outאֶת־הָאָדָםet-ha/a/DAMthe manוַיַּשְׁכֵּןvay/yash/KENand He placedמִקֶּדֶםmik/KE/demat the east ofלְגַן־עֵדֶןle/GAN-E/denthe garden of Edenאֶת־הַכְּרֻבִיםet-hak/ke/ru/VIMthe cherubimוְאֵתve/ETandלַהַטLA/hatthe flame ofהַחֶרֶבha/CHE/revthe swordהַמִּתְהַפֶּכֶתham/mit/hap/PE/khetwhich turned every wayלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepאֶת־דֶּרֶךְet-DE/rekhthe way ofעֵץetsthe tree ofהַחַיִּים׃ha/chay/YIMlife

    So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
