    וַיְכֻלּוּand were finishedהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensוְהָאָרֶץand the earthוְכׇל־צְבָאָם׃and all the host of them

    Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

  2. 2

    וַיְכַלand endedאֱלֹהִיםGodבַּיּוֹםon the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhמְלַאכְתּוֹHis workאֲשֶׁרwhichעָשָׂהHe had doneוַיִּשְׁבֹּתand He restedבַּיּוֹםon the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhמִכׇּל־מְלַאכְתּוֹfrom all His workאֲשֶׁרwhichעָשָׂה׃He had done

    And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

    וַיְבָרֶךְand blessedאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־יוֹםthe dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhוַיְקַדֵּשׁand sanctifiedאֹתוֹitכִּיbecauseבוֹin itשָׁבַתHe restedמִכׇּל־מְלַאכְתּוֹfrom all His workאֲשֶׁר־בָּרָאwhich had createdאֱלֹהִיםGodלַעֲשׂוֹת׃to make

    And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

    אֵלֶּהthese areתוֹלְדוֹתthe generations ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensוְהָאָרֶץand the earthבְּהִבָּרְאָםwhen they were createdבְּיוֹםin the day thatעֲשׂוֹתmadeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶרֶץthe earthוְשָׁמָיִם׃and the heavens

    These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

    וְכֹלand everyשִׂיחַplant ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldטֶרֶםbeforeיִהְיֶהit wasבָאָרֶץin the earthוְכׇל־עֵשֶׂבand every herb ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldטֶרֶםbeforeיִצְמָחit grewכִּיforלֹאnotהִמְטִירhad caused it to rainיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the earthוְאָדָםand manאַיִןthere was notלַעֲבֹדto cultivateאֶת־הָאֲדָמָה׃the ground

    And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

    וְאֵדbut a mistיַעֲלֶהwent upמִן־הָאָרֶץfrom the earthוְהִשְׁקָהand wateredאֶת־כׇּל־פְּנֵיthe whole surface ofהָאֲדָמָה׃the earth

    But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

    וַיִּיצֶרand formedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־הָאָדָםthe manעָפָרof dustמִן־הָאֲדָמָהfrom the groundוַיִּפַּחand breathedבְּאַפָּיוinto his nostrilsנִשְׁמַתthe breath ofחַיִּיםlifeוַיְהִיand becameהָאָדָםthe manלְנֶפֶשׁa beingחַיָּה׃living

    And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

    וַיִּטַּעand plantedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodגַּן־בְּעֵדֶןa garden in Edenמִקֶּדֶםin the eastוַיָּשֶׂםand He putשָׁםthereאֶת־הָאָדָםthe manאֲשֶׁרwhomיָצָר׃He had formed

    And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

    וַיַּצְמַחand made growיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodמִן־הָאֲדָמָהout of the groundכׇּל־עֵץevery treeנֶחְמָדthat is pleasingלְמַרְאֶהto the sightוְטוֹבand goodלְמַאֲכׇלfor foodוְעֵץand the tree ofהַחַיִּיםlifeבְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהַגָּןthe gardenוְעֵץand the tree ofהַדַּעַתthe knowledge ofטוֹבgoodוָרָע׃and evil

    And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

    וְנָהָרand a riverיֹצֵאwent outמֵעֵדֶןof Edenלְהַשְׁקוֹתto waterאֶת־הַגָּןthe gardenוּמִשָּׁםand from thereיִפָּרֵדit partedוְהָיָהand becameלְאַרְבָּעָהfourרָאשִׁים׃headwaters

    And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

    שֵׁםthe name ofהָאֶחָדthe firstפִּישׁוֹןis Pishonהוּאitהַסֹּבֵבwinds throughאֵת־כׇּל־אֶרֶץthe whole land ofהַחֲוִילָהHavilahאֲשֶׁר־שָׁםwhere thereהַזָּהָב׃gold

    The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

    וּזְהַבand the gold ofהָאָרֶץthe landהַהִואthatטוֹבis goodשָׁםthereהַבְּדֹלַחbdelliumוְאֶבֶןand the stoneהַשֹּׁהַם׃onyx

    And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

  13. 13

    וְשֵׁם־הַנָּהָרand the name of the riverהַשֵּׁנִיthe secondגִּיחוֹןis Gihonהוּאitהַסּוֹבֵבwinds throughאֵת־כׇּל־אֶרֶץthe whole land ofכּוּשׁ׃Ethiopia

    And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

    וְשֵׁםand the name ofהַנָּהָרthe riverהַשְּׁלִישִׁיthe thirdחִדֶּקֶלis Tigrisהוּאitהַהֹלֵךְruns alongקִדְמַתthe east ofאַשּׁוּרAssyriaוְהַנָּהָרand the riverהָרְבִיעִיthe fourthהוּאisפְרָת׃the Euphrates

    And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

    וַיִּקַּחand tookיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־הָאָדָםthe manוַיַּנִּחֵהוּand put himבְגַן־עֵדֶןin the garden of Edenלְעׇבְדָהּto tend itוּלְשׇׁמְרָהּ׃and to keep it

    And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

  16. 16

    וַיְצַוand commandedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodעַל־הָאָדָםthe manלֵאמֹרsayingמִכֹּלof everyעֵץ־הַגָּןtree of the gardenאָכֹלyou may freelyתֹּאכֵל׃eat

    And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

  17. 17

    וּמֵעֵץbut of the tree ofהַדַּעַתthe knowledge ofטוֹבgoodוָרָעand evilלֹאnotתֹאכַלyou shall eatמִמֶּנּוּfrom itכִּיforבְּיוֹםin the dayאֲכׇלְךָthat you eatמִמֶּנּוּof itמוֹתsurelyתָּמוּת׃you shall die

    But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

  18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodלֹא־טוֹבit is not goodהֱיוֹתthat should beהָאָדָםthe manלְבַדּוֹaloneאֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹI will make himעֵזֶרa helperכְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃suitable for him

    And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

  19. 19

    וַיִּצֶרand formedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodמִן־הָאֲדָמָהout of the groundכׇּל־חַיַּתevery beast ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldוְאֵתandכׇּל־עוֹףevery bird ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe skyוַיָּבֵאand brought themאֶל־הָאָדָםto the manלִרְאוֹתto seeמַה־יִּקְרָא־לוֹwhat he would call themוְכֹלand whateverאֲשֶׁרwhichיִקְרָא־לוֹcalled itהָאָדָםthe manנֶפֶשׁcreatureחַיָּהlivingהוּאthat wasשְׁמוֹ׃its name

    And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

  20. 20

    וַיִּקְרָאand gaveהָאָדָםthe manשֵׁמוֹתnamesלְכׇל־הַבְּהֵמָהto all the cattleוּלְעוֹףand to the birds ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe skyוּלְכֹלand to everyחַיַּתbeast ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldוּלְאָדָםbut for Adamלֹא־מָצָאwas not foundעֵזֶרa helperכְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃suitable for him

    And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

  21. 21

    וַיַּפֵּלand caused to fallיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodתַּרְדֵּמָהa deep sleepעַל־הָאָדָםupon the manוַיִּישָׁןand he sleptוַיִּקַּחand He tookאַחַתoneמִצַּלְעֹתָיוof his ribsוַיִּסְגֹּרand closed upבָּשָׂרthe fleshתַּחְתֶּנָּה׃in its place

    And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

  22. 22

    וַיִּבֶןand madeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־הַצֵּלָעthe ribאֲשֶׁר־לָקַחwhich He had takenמִן־הָאָדָםfrom the manלְאִשָּׁהinto a womanוַיְבִאֶהָand He brought herאֶל־הָאָדָם׃to the man

    And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

  23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidהָאָדָםthe manזֹאתthis isהַפַּעַםnow at lastעֶצֶםboneמֵעֲצָמַיof my bonesוּבָשָׂרand fleshמִבְּשָׂרִיof my fleshלְזֹאתthis oneיִקָּרֵאshall be calledאִשָּׁהWomanכִּיbecauseמֵאִישׁout of Manלֻקְחָה־זֹּאת׃was taken this one

    And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

  24. 24

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeיַעֲזׇב־אִישׁshall a man leaveאֶת־אָבִיוhis fatherוְאֶת־אִמּוֹand his motherוְדָבַקand be joinedבְּאִשְׁתּוֹto his wifeוְהָיוּand they shall becomeלְבָשָׂרfleshאֶחָד׃one

    Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

  25. 25

    וַיִּהְיוּand wereשְׁנֵיהֶםthe two of themעֲרוּמִּיםnakedהָאָדָםthe manוְאִשְׁתּוֹand his wifeוְלֹאand were notיִתְבֹּשָׁשׁוּ׃ashamed

    And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
