Genesis 1 בְּרֵאשִׁית פרק א׳

1. 1

   בְּרֵאשִׁיתin the beginningבָּרָאcreatedאֱלֹהִיםGodאֵת־הַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensוְאֵתandהָאָרֶץ׃the earth

   In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2. 2

   וְהָאָרֶץand the earthהָיְתָהwasתֹהוּformlessוָבֹהוּand voidוְחֹשֶׁךְand darkness wasעַל־פְּנֵיover the face ofתְהוֹםthe deepוְרוּחַand the Spirit ofאֱלֹהִיםGodמְרַחֶפֶתwas hoveringעַל־פְּנֵיover the face ofהַמָּיִם׃the waters

   And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodיְהִיlet there beאוֹרlightוַיְהִי־אוֹר׃and there was light

   And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

   וַיַּרְאand sawאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־הָאוֹרthe lightכִּי־טוֹבthat it was goodוַיַּבְדֵּלand dividedאֱלֹהִיםGodבֵּיןbetweenהָאוֹרthe lightוּבֵיןand betweenהַחֹשֶׁךְ׃the darkness

   And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

   וַיִּקְרָאand calledאֱלֹהִיםGodלָאוֹרthe lightיוֹםDayוְלַחֹשֶׁךְand the darknessקָרָאHe calledלָילָהNightוַיְהִי־עֶרֶבand there was eveningוַיְהִי־בֹקֶרand there was morningיוֹםdayאֶחָד׃one

   And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodיְהִיlet there beרָקִיעַa firmamentבְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהַמָּיִםthe watersוִיהִיand let itמַבְדִּילdivideבֵּיןbetweenמַיִםthe watersלָמָיִם׃and the waters

   And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

   וַיַּעַשׂSoאֱלֹהִיםGod madeאֶת־הָרָקִיעַthe firmamentוַיַּבְדֵּלand dividedבֵּיןbetweenהַמַּיִםthe watersאֲשֶׁרthat wereמִתַּחַתunderלָרָקִיעַthe firmamentוּבֵיןand betweenהַמַּיִםthe watersאֲשֶׁרthat wereמֵעַלaboveלָרָקִיעַthe firmamentוַיְהִי־כֵן׃and it was so

   And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

8. 8

   וַיִּקְרָאand calledאֱלֹהִיםGodלָרָקִיעַthe firmamentשָׁמָיִםHeavenוַיְהִי־עֶרֶבand there was eveningוַיְהִי־בֹקֶרand there was morningיוֹםdayשֵׁנִי׃the second

   And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodיִקָּווּlet be gathered togetherהַמַּיִםthe watersמִתַּחַתunderהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensאֶל־מָקוֹםinto placeאֶחָדoneוְתֵרָאֶהand let appearהַיַּבָּשָׁהthe dry landוַיְהִי־כֵן׃and it was so

   And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10. 10

    וַיִּקְרָאand calledאֱלֹהִיםGodלַיַּבָּשָׁהthe dry landאֶרֶץEarthוּלְמִקְוֵהand the collection ofהַמַּיִםthe watersקָרָאHe calledיַמִּיםSeasוַיַּרְאand sawאֱלֹהִיםGodכִּי־טוֹב׃that it was good

    And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodתַּדְשֵׁאlet bring forthהָאָרֶץthe earthדֶּשֶׁאgrassעֵשֶׂבthe herbמַזְרִיעַthat yieldsזֶרַעseedעֵץand the treeפְּרִיfruitעֹשֶׂהthat yieldsפְּרִיfruitלְמִינוֹaccording to its kindאֲשֶׁרthatזַרְעוֹ־בוֹseed is in itselfעַל־הָאָרֶץon the earthוַיְהִי־כֵן׃and it was so

    And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

12. 12

    וַתּוֹצֵאand brought forthהָאָרֶץthe earthדֶּשֶׁאgrassעֵשֶׂבthe herbמַזְרִיעַthat yieldsזֶרַעseedלְמִינֵהוּaccording to its kindוְעֵץand the treeעֹשֶׂה־פְּרִיthat yields fruitאֲשֶׁרthatזַרְעוֹ־בוֹseed is in itselfלְמִינֵהוּaccording to its kindוַיַּרְאand sawאֱלֹהִיםGodכִּי־טוֹב׃that it was good

    And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

13. 13

    וַיְהִי־עֶרֶבand there was eveningוַיְהִי־בֹקֶרand there was morningיוֹםdayשְׁלִישִׁי׃the third

    And the evening and the morning were the third day.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodיְהִיlet there beמְאֹרֹתlightsבִּרְקִיעַin the firmament ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensלְהַבְדִּילto divideבֵּיןbetweenהַיּוֹםthe dayוּבֵיןand betweenהַלָּיְלָהthe nightוְהָיוּand let them beלְאֹתֹתfor signsוּלְמוֹעֲדִיםand for seasonsוּלְיָמִיםand for daysוְשָׁנִים׃and years

    And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15. 15

    וְהָיוּand let them beלִמְאוֹרֹתfor lightsבִּרְקִיעַin the firmament ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensלְהָאִירto shineעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the earthוַיְהִי־כֵן׃and it was so

    And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16. 16

    וַיַּעַשׂSoאֱלֹהִיםGod madeאֶת־שְׁנֵיthe twoהַמְּאֹרֹתlightsהַגְּדֹלִיםthe greatאֶת־הַמָאוֹרthe lightהַגָּדֹלthe greaterלְמֶמְשֶׁלֶתto ruleהַיּוֹםthe dayוְאֶת־הַמָּאוֹרand the lightהַקָּטֹןthe lesserלְמֶמְשֶׁלֶתto ruleהַלַּיְלָהthe nightוְאֵתandהַכּוֹכָבִים׃the stars

    And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17. 17

    וַיִּתֵּןand setאֹתָםthemאֱלֹהִיםGodבִּרְקִיעַin the firmament ofהַשָּׁמָיִםthe heavensלְהָאִירto shineעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃upon the earth

    And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18. 18

    וְלִמְשֹׁלand to ruleבַּיּוֹםover the dayוּבַלַּיְלָהand over the nightוּלְהַבְדִּילand to divideבֵּיןbetweenהָאוֹרthe lightוּבֵיןand betweenהַחֹשֶׁךְthe darknessוַיַּרְאand sawאֱלֹהִיםGodכִּי־טוֹב׃that it was good

    And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

19. 19

    וַיְהִי־עֶרֶבand there was eveningוַיְהִי־בֹקֶרand there was morningיוֹםdayרְבִיעִי׃the fourth

    And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodיִשְׁרְצוּlet aboundהַמַּיִםthe watersשֶׁרֶץwith an abundance ofנֶפֶשׁcreaturesחַיָּהlivingוְעוֹףand birdsיְעוֹפֵףlet flyעַל־הָאָרֶץabove the earthעַל־פְּנֵיacross the face ofרְקִיעַthe firmament ofהַשָּׁמָיִם׃the heavens

    And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21. 21

    וַיִּבְרָאand createdאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־הַתַּנִּינִםthe sea creaturesהַגְּדֹלִיםthe greatוְאֵתandכׇּל־נֶפֶשׁevery creatureהַחַיָּהlivingהָרֹמֶשֶׂתthat movesאֲשֶׁרwith whichשָׁרְצוּaboundedהַמַּיִםthe watersלְמִינֵהֶםaccording to their kindsוְאֵתandכׇּל־עוֹףevery birdכָּנָףwingedלְמִינֵהוaccording to its kindוַיַּרְאand sawאֱלֹהִיםGodכִּי־טוֹב׃that it was good

    And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22. 22

    וַיְבָרֶךְand blessedאֹתָםthemאֱלֹהִיםGodלֵאמֹרsayingפְּרוּbe fruitfulוּרְבוּand multiplyוּמִלְאוּand fillאֶת־הַמַּיִםthe watersבַּיַּמִּיםin the seasוְהָעוֹףand birdsיִרֶבlet multiplyבָּאָרֶץ׃on the earth

    And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23. 23

    וַיְהִי־עֶרֶבand there was eveningוַיְהִי־בֹקֶרand there was morningיוֹםdayחֲמִישִׁי׃the fifth

    And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodתּוֹצֵאlet bring forthהָאָרֶץthe earthנֶפֶשׁthe creatureחַיָּהlivingלְמִינָהּaccording to its kindבְּהֵמָהlivestockוָרֶמֶשׂand creeping thingוְחַיְתוֹ־אֶרֶץand beast of the earthלְמִינָהּaccording to its kindוַיְהִי־כֵן׃and it was so

    And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25. 25

    וַיַּעַשׂSoאֱלֹהִיםGod madeאֶת־חַיַּתthe beast ofהָאָרֶץthe earthלְמִינָהּaccording to its kindוְאֶת־הַבְּהֵמָהand the livestockלְמִינָהּaccording to its kindוְאֵתandכׇּל־רֶמֶשׂeverything that creeps onהָאֲדָמָהthe groundלְמִינֵהוּaccording to its kindוַיַּרְאand sawאֱלֹהִיםGodכִּי־טוֹב׃that it was good

    And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26. 26

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodנַעֲשֶׂהlet Us makeאָדָםmanבְּצַלְמֵנוּin Our imageכִּדְמוּתֵנוּafter Our likenessוְיִרְדּוּand let them ruleבִדְגַתover the fish ofהַיָּםthe seaוּבְעוֹףand over the birds ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe airוּבַבְּהֵמָהand over the livestockוּבְכׇל־הָאָרֶץand over all the earthוּבְכׇל־הָרֶמֶשׂand over every creeping thingהָרֹמֵשׂthat creepsעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃on the earth

    And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27. 27

    וַיִּבְרָאand createdאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־הָאָדָםmanבְּצַלְמוֹin His own imageבְּצֶלֶםin the image ofאֱלֹהִיםGodבָּרָאHe createdאֹתוֹhimזָכָרmaleוּנְקֵבָהand femaleבָּרָאHe createdאֹתָם׃them

    So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28. 28

    וַיְבָרֶךְand blessedאֹתָםthemאֱלֹהִיםGodוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָהֶםto themאֱלֹהִיםGodפְּרוּbe fruitfulוּרְבוּand multiplyוּמִלְאוּand fillאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe earthוְכִבְשֻׁהָand subdue itוּרְדוּand have dominionבִּדְגַתover the fish ofהַיָּםthe seaוּבְעוֹףand over the birds ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe skyוּבְכׇל־חַיָּהand over every living thingהָרֹמֶשֶׂתthat movesעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃upon the earth

    And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29. 29

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodהִנֵּהbeholdנָתַתִּיI have givenלָכֶםto youאֶת־כׇּל־עֵשֶׂבevery herbזֹרֵעַthat yieldsזֶרַעseedאֲשֶׁרwhich isעַל־פְּנֵיon the face ofכׇל־הָאָרֶץall the earthוְאֶת־כׇּל־הָעֵץand every treeאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹin which isפְרִי־עֵץfruit of a treeזֹרֵעַyieldingזָרַעseedלָכֶםto youיִהְיֶהit shall beלְאׇכְלָה׃for food

    And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30. 30

    וּלְכׇל־חַיַּתand to every beast ofהָאָרֶץthe earthוּלְכׇל־עוֹףand to every bird ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe airוּלְכֹלand to everythingרוֹמֵשׂthat creepsעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the earthאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹwhich has in itנֶפֶשׁthe breath ofחַיָּהlifeאֶת־כׇּל־יֶרֶקevery greenעֵשֶׂבherbלְאׇכְלָהfor foodוַיְהִ־כֵן׃and it was so

    And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31. 31

    וַיַּרְאand sawאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרeverything thatעָשָׂהHe had madeוְהִנֵּה־טוֹבand indeed it was goodמְאֹדveryוַיְהִי־עֶרֶבand there was eveningוַיְהִי־בֹקֶרand there was morningיוֹםdayהַשִּׁשִּׁי׃the sixth

    And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
