1. 1

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶל־יַעֲקֹבto Jacobקוּםariseעֲלֵהgo upבֵית־אֵלBeth-elוְשֶׁב־שָׁםand dwell thereוַעֲשֵׂה־שָׁםand make thereמִזְבֵּחַan altarלָאֵלto the Godהַנִּרְאֶהwho appearedאֵלֶיךָto youבְּבׇרְחֲךָwhen you fledמִפְּנֵיbecause ofעֵשָׂוEsauאָחִיךָ׃your brother

   And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיַעֲקֹבJacobאֶל־בֵּיתוֹto his houseוְאֶלand toכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall thatעִמּוֹwith himהָסִרוּremoveאֶת־אֱלֹהֵיthe gods ofהַנֵּכָרthe foreignאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּתֹכְכֶםin midst of youוְהִטַּהֲרוּand purify yourselvesוְהַחֲלִיפוּand changeשִׂמְלֹתֵיכֶם׃your garments

   Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

   וְנָקוּמָהso let us ariseוְנַעֲלֶהand let us go upבֵּית־אֵלBeth-elוְאֶעֱשֶׂה־שָּׁםand do thereמִזְבֵּחַan altarלָאֵלto the Godהָעֹנֶהwho answeredאֹתִיmeבְּיוֹםin the day ofצָרָתִיmy distressוַיְהִיand it came to passעִמָּדִיwith meבַּדֶּרֶךְin the wayאֲשֶׁרwhichהָלָכְתִּי׃I have gone

   And let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

4. 4

   וַיִּתְּנוּand they gaveאֶל־יַעֲקֹבto Jacobאֵת־כׇּל־אֱלֹהֵיall the gods ofהַנֵּכָרthe foreignאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּיָדָםin their handוְאֶת־הַנְּזָמִיםand the ringsאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּאׇזְנֵיהֶםin their earsוַיִּטְמֹןand hidאֹתָםthemיַעֲקֹבJacobתַּחַתunderהָאֵלָהthe oakאֲשֶׁרwhichעִם־שְׁכֶם׃by Shechem

   And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

5. 5

   וַיִּסָּעוּand they set outוַיְהִיand wasחִתַּתthe terror ofאֱלֹהִיםGodעַל־הֶעָרִיםupon the citiesאֲשֶׁרwhichסְבִיבוֹתֵיהֶםwere around themוְלֹאand notרָדְפוּhad pursuedאַחֲרֵיafterבְּנֵיthe sons ofיַעֲקֹב׃Jacob

   And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

6. 6

   וַיָּבֹאand cameיַעֲקֹבJacobלוּזָהto Luzאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofכְּנַעַןCanaanהִואthat isבֵּית־אֵלBeth-elהוּאheוְכׇל־הָעָםand all the peopleאֲשֶׁר־עִמּוֹ׃which with him

   So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Beth-el, he and all the people that were with him.

7. 7

   וַיִּבֶןand builtשָׁםthereמִזְבֵּחַan altarוַיִּקְרָאand calledלַמָּקוֹםthe placeאֵלElבֵּית־אֵלBeth-elכִּיbecauseשָׁםthereנִגְלוּappearedאֵלָיוto himהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godבְּבׇרְחוֹwhen he fledמִפְּנֵיbecause ofאָחִיו׃his brother

   And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

8. 8

   וַתָּמׇתand diedדְּבֹרָהDeborahמֵינֶקֶתthe suckling nurse ofרִבְקָהRebekahוַתִּקָּבֵרand she was buriedמִתַּחַתfrom beneathלְבֵית־אֵלof Beth-elתַּחַתunderהָאַלּוֹןthe oakוַיִּקְרָאand calledשְׁמוֹits nameאַלּוֹןAllonבָּכוּת׃Bacuth

   But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Beth-el under an oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bachuth.

9. 9

   וַיֵּרָאand appearedאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶל־יַעֲקֹבto Jacobעוֹדagainבְּבֹאוֹwhen he goes inמִפַּדַּןfrom Padan-אֲרָםaramוַיְבָרֶךְand blessedאֹתוֹ׃him

   And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padan-aram, and blessed him.

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶר־לוֹand said himאֱלֹהִיםGodשִׁמְךָyour nameיַעֲקֹבJacobלֹא־יִקָּרֵאshall not be calledשִׁמְךָyour nameעוֹדany moreיַעֲקֹבJacobכִּיbecauseאִם־יִשְׂרָאֵלbut Israelיִהְיֶהshall beשְׁמֶךָyour nameוַיִּקְרָאand calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹhis nameיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

    And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלוֹto himאֱלֹהִיםGodאֲנִיIאֵלGodשַׁדַּיAlmightyפְּרֵהbe fruitfulוּרְבֵהand multiplyגּוֹיa nationוּקְהַלand a company ofגּוֹיִםnationsיִהְיֶהshall beמִמֶּךָּfrom youוּמְלָכִיםand kingsמֵחֲלָצֶיךָfrom your loinsיֵצֵאוּ׃shall go forth

    And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

12. 12

    וְאֶת־הָאָרֶץand the landאֲשֶׁרwhichנָתַתִּיI gaveלְאַבְרָהָםunto Abrahamוּלְיִצְחָקand to Isaacלְךָfor youאֶתְּנֶנָּהshall I give itוּלְזַרְעֲךָand to your offspringאַחֲרֶיךָafter youאֶתֵּןI will giveאֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃the land

    And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

13. 13

    וַיַּעַלand went upמֵעָלָיוfrom with himאֱלֹהִיםGodבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרwhich spokeאִתּוֹ׃with him

    And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

14. 14

    וַיַּצֵּבand he set upיַעֲקֹבJacobמַצֵּבָהa pillarבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרwhich spokeאִתּוֹwith himמַצֶּבֶתa pillar ofאָבֶןa stoneוַיַּסֵּךְand he poured outעָלֶיהָupon itנֶסֶךְa drink offeringוַיִּצֹקand he pouredעָלֶיהָupon itשָׁמֶן׃oil

    And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

15. 15

    וַיִּקְרָאand calledיַעֲקֹבJacobאֶת־שֵׁםname ofהַמָּקוֹםthe placeאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבֶּרspokeאִתּוֹwith himשָׁםthereאֱלֹהִיםGodבֵּית־אֵל׃Beth-el

    And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Beth-el.

16. 16

    וַיִּסְעוּand they set outמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofאֵלGodוַיְהִי־עוֹדand there was stillכִּבְרַת־הָאָרֶץa stretch of landלָבוֹאto comeאֶפְרָתָהEphratahוַתֵּלֶדand boreרָחֵלRachelוַתְּקַשׁand she had hard laborבְּלִדְתָּהּ׃when she gave birth

    And they journeyed from Beth-el; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיand it came to passבְהַקְשֹׁתָהּwhen she had difficultiesבְּלִדְתָּהּwhen she gave birthוַתֹּאמֶרand saidלָהּto herהַמְיַלֶּדֶתthe midwifeאַל־תִּירְאִיdo not should be afraidכִּי־גַם־זֶהbecause also thisלָךְto youבֵּן׃a son

    And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיand it came to passבְּצֵאתas departedנַפְשָׁהּher soulכִּיforמֵתָהshe diedוַתִּקְרָאand she calledשְׁמוֹhis nameבֶּן־אוֹנִיBen-oniוְאָבִיוand his fatherקָרָא־לוֹcalled himבִנְיָמִין׃Benjamin

    And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.

19. 19

    וַתָּמׇתand diedרָחֵלRachelוַתִּקָּבֵרand she was buriedבְּדֶרֶךְin the way toאֶפְרָתָהEphratahהִואthat isבֵּיתBeth-לָחֶם׃lehem

    And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Beth-lehem.

20. 20

    וַיַּצֵּבand he set upיַעֲקֹבJacobמַצֵּבָהa pillarעַל־קְבֻרָתָהּupon her graveהִואthat isמַצֶּבֶתthe pillar ofקְבֻרַת־רָחֵלthe grave of Rachelעַד־הַיּוֹם׃even until the day

    And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

21. 21

    וַיִּסַּעand journeyedיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוַיֵּטand he turnedאׇהֳלֹהhis tentמֵהָלְאָהfrom beyondלְמִגְדַּל־עֵדֶר׃Migdal-eder

    And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

22. 22

    וַיְהִיand it came to passבִּשְׁכֹּןwhen dweltיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelבָּאָרֶץin the landהַהִואthatוַיֵּלֶךְand wentרְאוּבֵןReubenוַיִּשְׁכַּבand lay withאֶת־בִּלְהָהBilhahפִּילֶגֶשׁthe concubine ofאָבִיוhis fatherוַיִּשְׁמַעand heardיִשְׂרָאֵ͏ל׃Israelוַיִּהְיוּand they wereבְנֵי־יַעֲקֹבsons of Jacobשְׁנֵים־עָשָׂר׃twelve

    And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

23. 23

    בְּנֵיthe sons ofלֵאָהLeahבְּכוֹרthe firstborn ofיַעֲקֹבJacobרְאוּבֵןReubenוְשִׁמְעוֹןand Simeonוְלֵוִיand Leviוִיהוּדָהand Judahוְיִשָּׂשכָרand Issacharוּזְבֻלוּן׃and Zebulun

    The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:

24. 24

    בְּנֵיthe sons ofרָחֵלRachelיוֹסֵףJosephוּבִנְיָמִן׃and Benjamin

    The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:

25. 25

    וּבְנֵיand sons ofבִלְהָהBilhahשִׁפְחַתthe maidservant ofרָחֵלRachelדָּןDanוְנַפְתָּלִי׃and Naphtali

    And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:

26. 26

    וּבְנֵיand sons ofזִלְפָּהZilpahשִׁפְחַתthe maidservant ofלֵאָהLeahגָּדGadוְאָשֵׁרand Asherאֵלֶּהtheseבְּנֵיthe sons ofיַעֲקֹבJacobאֲשֶׁרwhichיֻלַּד־לוֹhe was born himבְּפַדַּןin Padan-אֲרָם׃aram

    And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padan-aram.

27. 27

    וַיָּבֹאand cameיַעֲקֹבJacobאֶל־יִצְחָקto Isaacאָבִיוhis fatherמַמְרֵאMamreקִרְיַתKiriath-הָאַרְבַּעarbaהִואthat isחֶבְרוֹןHebronאֲשֶׁר־גָּר־שָׁםwhere sojournedאַבְרָהָםAbrahamוְיִצְחָק׃and Isaac

    And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

28. 28

    וַיִּהְיוּand they wereיְמֵיthe days ofיִצְחָקIsaacמְאַתone hundredשָׁנָהyearsוּשְׁמֹנִיםand eightyשָׁנָה׃years

    And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.

29. 29

    וַיִּגְוַעand he gave up the ghostיִצְחָקIsaacוַיָּמׇתand he diedוַיֵּאָסֶףand he was gatheredאֶל־עַמָּיוto his peopleזָקֵןoldוּשְׂבַעand full ofיָמִיםdaysוַיִּקְבְּרוּand they buriedאֹתוֹhimעֵשָׂוEsauוְיַעֲקֹבand Jacobבָּנָיו׃his sons

    And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
