   And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.

   And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.

   וְהוּאve/HUand heעָבַרa/VARpassed overלִפְנֵיהֶםlif/ne/HEMbefore themוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed himselfאַרְצָהAR/tsato the groundשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesעַד־גִּשְׁתּוֹad-gish/TOuntil he came nearעַד־אָחִיו׃ad-a/CHIVto his brother

   And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

   וַיָּרׇץvay/YA/rotsand he ranעֵשָׂוE/SAVEsauלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himוַיְחַבְּקֵהוּvay/chab/be/KE/huand embraced himוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand fellעַל־צַוָּארָוal-tsav/va/RAVupon his neckוַׄיִּׄשָּׁׄקֵׄהׄוּׄvay/yish/sha/KE/huand kissed himוַיִּבְכּוּ׃vay/yiv/KUand they wept

   And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

   וַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand lifted upאֶת־עֵינָיוet-e/NAYVhis eyesוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawאֶת־הַנָּשִׁיםet-han/na/SHIMthe womenוְאֶת־הַיְלָדִיםve/ET-hay/la/DIMand the childrenוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמִי־אֵלֶּהmi-EL/lewho are theseלָּךְlakhwith youוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidהַיְלָדִיםhay/la/DIMthe childrenאֲשֶׁר־חָנַןa/SHER-cha/NANwhom has graciously givenאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶת־עַבְדֶּךָ׃et-av/DE/khayour servant

   And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.

   וַתִּגַּשְׁןָvat/tig/GASH/naand came nearהַשְּׁפָחוֹתhash/she/fa/CHOTthe handmaidsהֵנָּהHEN/natheyוְיַלְדֵיהֶןve/yal/de/HENand their childrenוַתִּשְׁתַּחֲוֶיןָ׃vat/tish/ta/cha/VE/naand they bowed themselves

   Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

   וַתִּגַּשׁvat/tig/GASHand came nearגַּם־לֵאָהgam-Le/Aalso Leahוִילָדֶיהָvi/la/DE/haand her childrenוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand they bowed themselvesוְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterנִגַּשׁnig/GASHcame nearיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephוְרָחֵלve/Ra/CHELand Rachelוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ׃vay/yish/ta/cha/VUand they bowed themselves

   And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמִיmiwhatלְךָle/KHAto youכׇּל־הַמַּחֲנֶהkol-ham/ma/cha/NEall the campהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichפָּגָשְׁתִּיpa/GASH/tiI have metוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלִמְצֹא־חֵןlim/TSO-chento find favorבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofאֲדֹנִי׃a/do/NImy lord

   And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.

9. 9

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעֵשָׂוE/SAVEsauיֶשׁ־לִיyesh-liI haveרָבravenoughאָחִיa/CHImy brotherיְהִיye/HIlet beלְךָle/KHAyoursאֲשֶׁר־לָךְ׃a/SHER-lakhwhat you have

   And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobאַל־נָאal-nano I prayאִם־נָאim-naif I prayמָצָאתִיma/TSA/tiI have foundחֵןchenfavorבְּעֵינֶיךָbe/e/NE/khain your eyesוְלָקַחְתָּve/la/kach/TAthen takeמִנְחָתִיmin/cha/TImy presentמִיָּדִיmiy/ya/DIfrom my handכִּיkiforעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeרָאִיתִיra/I/tiI have seenפָנֶיךָfa/NE/khayour faceכִּרְאֹתkir/OTas one seesפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוַתִּרְצֵנִי׃vat/tir/TSE/niand you were pleased with me

    And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.

11. 11

    קַח־נָאkach-natake I prayאֶת־בִּרְכָתִיet-bir/kha/TImy blessingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֻבָאתhu/VATthat is broughtלָךְlakhto youכִּי־חַנַּנִיki-chan/NA/nibecause has dealt graciously with meאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְכִיve/KHIand becauseיֶשׁ־לִי־כֹלyesh-li-kholI have allוַיִּפְצַר־בּוֹvay/yif/TSAR-boand he urged himוַיִּקָּח׃vay/yik/KACHand he took it

    Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנִסְעָהnis/Alet us take our journeyוְנֵלֵכָהve/ne/LE/khaand let us goוְאֵלְכָהve/el/KHAand I will goלְנֶגְדֶּךָ׃le/neg/DE/khabefore you

    And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordיֹדֵעַyo/DE/aknowsכִּי־הַיְלָדִיםki-hay/la/DIMthat the childrenרַכִּיםrak/KIMare tenderוְהַצֹּאןve/hats/TSONand the flockוְהַבָּקָרve/hab/ba/KARand the cattleעָלוֹתa/LOTare nursingעָלָיa/LAYwith meוּדְפָקוּםu/de/fa/KUMand if they overdrive themיוֹםyomdayאֶחָדe/CHADoneוָמֵתוּva/ME/tuand will dieכׇּל־הַצֹּאן׃kol-hats/TSONall the flock

    And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.

14. 14

    יַעֲבׇר־נָאya/a/VOR-nalet pass over I prayאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeעַבְדּוֹav/DOhis servantוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֶתְנָהֲלָהet/na/ha/LAwill lead onלְאִטִּיle/it/TIsoftlyלְרֶגֶלle/RE/gelaccording to the pace ofהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe cattleאֲשֶׁר־לְפָנַיa/SHER-le/fa/NAYthat is before meוּלְרֶגֶלu/le/RE/geland according to the pace ofהַיְלָדִיםhay/la/DIMthe childrenעַדaduntilאֲשֶׁר־אָבֹאa/SHER-a/VOthat I comeאֶל־אֲדֹנִיel-a/do/NIto my lordשֵׂעִירָה׃Se/I/rato Seir

    Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעֵשָׂוE/SAVEsauאַצִּיגָה־נָּאats/tsi/GA-nalet me leave nowעִמְּךָim/me/KHAwith youמִן־הָעָםmin-ha/AMsome of the peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאִתִּיit/TIare with meוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָמָּהLAM/mawhyזֶּהzethisאֶמְצָא־חֵןem/TSA-chenlet me find favorבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofאֲדֹנִי׃a/do/NImy lord

    And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.

16. 16

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand returnedבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatעֵשָׂוE/SAVEsauלְדַרְכּוֹle/dar/KOon his wayשֵׂעִירָה׃Se/I/rato Seir

    So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.

17. 17

    וְיַעֲקֹבve/Ya/a/KOVand Jacobנָסַעna/SAjourneyedסֻכֹּתָהSuk/KO/tato Succothוַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand builtלוֹlofor himselfבָּיִתBA/yita houseוּלְמִקְנֵהוּu/le/mik/NE/huand for his livestockעָשָׂהa/SAhe madeסֻכֹּתsuk/KOTboothsעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeקָרָאka/RAhe calledשֵׁם־הַמָּקוֹםshem-ham/ma/KOMthe name of the placeסֻכּוֹת׃Suk/KOTSuccoth

    And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

18. 18

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobשָׁלֵםsha/LEMin peaceעִירirthe city ofשְׁכֶםShe/KHEMShechemאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofכְּנַעַןKe/NA/anCanaanבְּבֹאוֹbe/vo/Owhen he cameמִפַּדַּןmip/Pad/DANfrom Padan-אֲרָםa/RAMaramוַיִּחַןvay/YI/chanand encampedאֶת־פְּנֵיet-pe/NEbeforeהָעִיר׃ha/IRthe city

    And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.

19. 19

    וַיִּקֶןvay/YI/kenand boughtאֶת־חֶלְקַתet-chel/KATthe parcel ofהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEthe fieldאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנָטָה־שָׁםna/TA-shamhe had spread thereאׇהֳלוֹo/ho/LOhis tentמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofבְּנֵי־חֲמוֹרbe/NE-cha/MORthe sons of Hamorאֲבִיa/VIthe father ofשְׁכֶםShe/KHEMShechemבְּמֵאָהbe/me/Afor a hundredקְשִׂיטָה׃ke/si/TApieces of money

    And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.

20. 20

    וַיַּצֶּב־שָׁםvay/yats/TSEV-shamand he set up thereמִזְבֵּחַmiz/BE/achan altarוַיִּקְרָא־לוֹvay/yik/RA-loand he called itאֵלElElאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.
