1. 1

   וַתֵּרֶאand sawרָחֵלRachelכִּיthatלֹאnotיָלְדָהshe boreלְיַעֲקֹבto Jacobוַתְּקַנֵּאand she was jealousרָחֵלRachelבַּאֲחֹתָהּof her sisterוַתֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־יַעֲקֹבto Jacobהָבָה־לִּיgive meבָנִיםsonsוְאִם־אַיִןand if notמֵתָהam dyingאָנֹכִי׃I

   And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

   וַיִּחַר־אַףand was kindled the anger ofיַעֲקֹבJacobבְּרָחֵלfor Rachelוַיֹּאמֶרand saidהֲתַחַתis it in the place ofאֱלֹהִיםGodאָנֹכִיIאֲשֶׁר־מָנַעwho has withheldמִמֵּךְfrom youפְּרִי־בָטֶן׃the fruit of the womb

   And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

   וַתֹּאמֶרand saidהִנֵּהbeholdאֲמָתִיmy maidservantבִלְהָהBilhahבֹּאcomeאֵלֶיהָto herוְתֵלֵדand she shall bearעַל־בִּרְכַּיupon my kneesוְאִבָּנֶהso I may be built upגַם־אָנֹכִיalso Iמִמֶּנָּה׃from her

   And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.

   וַתִּתֶּן־לוֹand she gave to himאֶת־בִּלְהָהBilhahשִׁפְחָתָהּher maidservantלְאִשָּׁהas a wifeוַיָּבֹאand cameאֵלֶיהָto herיַעֲקֹב׃Jacob

   And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.

   וַתַּהַרand she conceivedבִּלְהָהBilhahוַתֵּלֶדand boreלְיַעֲקֹבto Jacobבֵּן׃a son

   And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.

6. 6

   וַתֹּאמֶרand saidרָחֵלRachelדָּנַנִּיhas judged meאֱלֹהִיםGodוְגַםand alsoשָׁמַעheardבְּקֹלִיto my voiceוַיִּתֶּן־לִיand gave unto meבֵּןa sonעַל־כֵּןthereforeקָרְאָהshe calledשְׁמוֹhis nameדָּן׃Dan

   And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.

   וַתַּהַרand she conceivedעוֹדagainוַתֵּלֶדand boreבִּלְהָהBilhahשִׁפְחַתthe maidservant ofרָחֵלRachelבֵּןa sonשֵׁנִיsecondלְיַעֲקֹב׃to Jacob

   And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.

8. 8

   וַתֹּאמֶרand saidרָחֵלRachelנַפְתּוּלֵיwrestling ofאֱלֹהִיםGodנִפְתַּלְתִּיI have wrestledעִם־אֲחֹתִיwith my sisterגַּם־יָכֹלְתִּיand have prevailedוַתִּקְרָאand she calledשְׁמוֹhis nameנַפְתָּלִי׃Naphtali

   And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.

   וַתֵּרֶאand sawלֵאָהLeahכִּיthatעָמְדָהshe had ceasedמִלֶּדֶתfrom bearing childrenוַתִּקַּחand she tookאֶת־זִלְפָּהZilpahשִׁפְחָתָהּher maidservantוַתִּתֵּןand she gaveאֹתָהּherלְיַעֲקֹבto Jacobלְאִשָּׁה׃as a wife

   When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.

10. 10

    וַתֵּלֶדand boreזִלְפָּהZilpahשִׁפְחַתthe maidservant ofלֵאָהLeahלְיַעֲקֹבto Jacobבֵּן׃a son

    And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son.

11. 11

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidלֵאָהLeah(בגד)[בָּאhas comeגָד]good fortuneוַתִּקְרָאand she calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹhis nameגָּד׃Gad

    And Leah said, A troop cometh: and she called his name Gad.

12. 12

    וַתֵּלֶדand boreזִלְפָּהZilpahשִׁפְחַתthe maidservant ofלֵאָהLeahבֵּןa sonשֵׁנִיsecondלְיַעֲקֹב׃to Jacob

    And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son.

13. 13

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidלֵאָהLeahבְּאׇשְׁרִיin my happinessכִּיforאִשְּׁרוּנִיwill call me happyבָּנוֹתthe daughtersוַתִּקְרָאand she calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹhis nameאָשֵׁר׃Asher

    And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.

    וַיֵּלֶךְand wentרְאוּבֵןReubenבִּימֵיin the days ofקְצִיר־חִטִּיםthe harvest of wheatוַיִּמְצָאand foundדוּדָאִיםmandrakesבַּשָּׂדֶהin the fieldוַיָּבֵאand he broughtאֹתָםthemאֶל־לֵאָהto Leahאִמּוֹhis motherוַתֹּאמֶרand saidרָחֵלRachelאֶל־לֵאָהto Leahתְּנִי־נָאgive I prayלִיto meמִדּוּדָאֵיsome of the mandrakes ofבְּנֵךְ׃your son

    And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidלָהּto herהַמְעַטis it a small thingקַחְתֵּךְthat you have takenאֶת־אִישִׁיmy husbandוְלָקַחַתand to takeגַּםalsoאֶת־דּוּדָאֵיthe mandrakes ofבְּנִיmy sonוַתֹּאמֶרand saidרָחֵלRachelלָכֵןthereforeיִשְׁכַּבhe shall lie downעִמָּךְwith youהַלַּיְלָהthe nightתַּחַתunderדּוּדָאֵיthe mandrakes ofבְנֵךְ׃your son

    And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes.

    וַיָּבֹאand cameיַעֲקֹבJacobמִן־הַשָּׂדֶהfrom the fieldבָּעֶרֶבin the eveningוַתֵּצֵאand went outלֵאָהLeahלִקְרָאתוֹto meet himוַתֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלַיto meתָּבוֹאyou shall comeכִּיforשָׂכֹרsurely hiredשְׂכַרְתִּיךָI have hired youבְּדוּדָאֵיfor the mandrakes ofבְּנִיmy sonוַיִּשְׁכַּבand he layעִמָּהּwith herבַּלַּיְלָהin the nightהוּא׃that

    And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

    וַיִּשְׁמַעand hearkenedאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶל־לֵאָהto Leahוַתַּהַרand she conceivedוַתֵּלֶדand boreלְיַעֲקֹבto Jacobבֵּןa sonחֲמִישִׁי׃fifth

    And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.

18. 18

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidלֵאָהLeahנָתַןhas givenאֱלֹהִיםGodשְׂכָרִיmy rewardאֲשֶׁר־נָתַתִּיbecause I gaveשִׁפְחָתִיmy maidservantלְאִישִׁיto my husbandוַתִּקְרָאand she calledשְׁמוֹhis nameיִשָּׂשכָר׃Issachar

    And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.

19. 19

    וַתַּהַרand she conceivedעוֹדagainלֵאָהLeahוַתֵּלֶדand boreבֵּן־שִׁשִּׁיa son sixthלְיַעֲקֹב׃to Jacob

    And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.

20. 20

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidלֵאָהLeahזְבָדַנִיhas endowed meאֱלֹהִיםGodאֹתִיmeזֵבֶדan endowmentטוֹבgoodהַפַּעַםthis timeיִזְבְּלֵנִיhe will honor meאִישִׁיmy husbandכִּי־יָלַדְתִּיbecause I have borneלוֹto himשִׁשָּׁהsixבָנִיםsonsוַתִּקְרָאand she calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹhis nameזְבֻלוּן׃Zebulun

    And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.

21. 21

    וְאַחַרand thenיָלְדָהshe boreבַּתa daughterוַתִּקְרָאand she calledאֶת־שְׁמָהּher nameדִּינָה׃Dinah

    And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.

22. 22

    וַיִּזְכֹּרand rememberedאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־רָחֵלRachelוַיִּשְׁמַעand hearkenedאֵלֶיהָto herאֱלֹהִיםGodוַיִּפְתַּחand he openedאֶת־רַחְמָהּ׃her womb

    And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

23. 23

    וַתַּהַרand she conceivedוַתֵּלֶדand boreבֵּןa sonוַתֹּאמֶרand saidאָסַףhas taken awayאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־חֶרְפָּתִי׃my reproach

    And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:

24. 24

    וַתִּקְרָאand she calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹhis nameיוֹסֵףJosephלֵאמֹרsayingיֹסֵףmay he addיְהֹוָהthe LORDלִיto meבֵּןa sonאַחֵר׃other

    And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenיָלְדָהshe boreרָחֵלRachelאֶת־יוֹסֵףJosephוַיֹּאמֶרand saidיַעֲקֹבJacobאֶל־לָבָןto Labanשַׁלְּחֵנִיsend me awayוְאֵלְכָהso let me goאֶל־מְקוֹמִיto my placeוּלְאַרְצִי׃and to my land

    And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.

26. 26

    תְּנָהgiveאֶת־נָשַׁיmy wivesוְאֶת־יְלָדַיand my childrenאֲשֶׁרwhichעָבַדְתִּיdid I workאֹתְךָfor youבָּהֵןfor themוְאֵלֵכָהso I may goכִּיbecauseאַתָּהyouיָדַעְתָּyou knowאֶת־עֲבֹדָתִיmy serviceאֲשֶׁרwhichעֲבַדְתִּיךָ׃I have served you

    Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.

27. 27

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוto himלָבָןLabanאִם־נָאif I prayמָצָאתִיI foundחֵןfavorבְּעֵינֶיךָin your eyesנִחַשְׁתִּיI have learned by divinationוַיְבָרְכֵנִיand has blessed meיְהֹוָהthe LORDבִּגְלָלֶךָ׃on account of you

    And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.

28. 28

    וַיֹּאמַרand saidנׇקְבָהappointשְׂכָרְךָyour rewardעָלַיupon meוְאֶתֵּנָה׃and I will give it

    And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.

29. 29

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוto himאַתָּהyouיָדַעְתָּyou knowאֵת־אֲשֶׁרwhichעֲבַדְתִּיךָI have served youוְאֵתandאֲשֶׁר־הָיָהwhich wasמִקְנְךָyour livestockאִתִּי׃with me

    And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me.

30. 30

    כִּיbecauseמְעַטa littleאֲשֶׁר־הָיָהwhich wasלְךָfor youלְפָנַיbefore meוַיִּפְרֹץand it has increasedלָרֹבin abundanceוַיְבָרֶךְand blessedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֹתְךָyouלְרַגְלִיat my footוְעַתָּהand nowמָתַיwhenאֶעֱשֶׂהshall I provideגַם־אָנֹכִיalso Iלְבֵיתִי׃for my own house

    For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidמָהwhatאֶתֶּן־לָךְshall I give youוַיֹּאמֶרand saidיַעֲקֹבJacobלֹא־תִתֶּן־לִיnot you will give to meמְאוּמָהanythingאִם־תַּעֲשֶׂה־לִּיif you make to meהַדָּבָרthe thingהַזֶּהthisאָשׁוּבָהI will againאֶרְעֶהI will tendצֹאנְךָyour flockאֶשְׁמֹר׃I will keep

    And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock:

32. 32

    אֶעֱבֹרlet me passבְּכׇל־צֹאנְךָin all your flockהַיּוֹםthe dayהָסֵרremovingמִשָּׁםfrom thereכׇּל־שֶׂהevery sheepנָקֹדspeckledוְטָלוּאand spottedוְכׇל־שֶׂה־חוּםand every dark sheepבַּכְּשָׂבִיםamong the lambsוְטָלוּאand spottedוְנָקֹדand the speckledבָּעִזִּיםamong the goatsוְהָיָהand shall beשְׂכָרִי׃my wages

    I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.

33. 33

    וְעָנְתָה־בִּיand it will testify against meצִדְקָתִיmy righteousnessבְּיוֹםin the day ofמָחָרtomorrowכִּי־תָבוֹאwhen it shall comeעַל־שְׂכָרִיconcerning my wagesלְפָנֶיךָbefore youכֹּלallאֲשֶׁר־אֵינֶנּוּwhich it is notנָקֹדspeckledוְטָלוּאand spottedבָּעִזִּיםamong the goatsוְחוּםand darkבַּכְּשָׂבִיםamong the lambsגָּנוּבstolenהוּאitאִתִּי׃with me

    So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלָבָןLabanהֵןbeholdלוּwould it wereיְהִיlet this beכִדְבָרֶךָ׃according to your word

    And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.

35. 35

    וַיָּסַרand he removedבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatאֶת־הַתְּיָשִׁיםthe male goatsהָעֲקֻדִּיםthe stripedוְהַטְּלֻאִיםand the spottedוְאֵתandכׇּל־הָעִזִּיםall the goatsהַנְּקֻדּוֹתthe speckledוְהַטְּלֻאֹתand the spottedכֹּלallאֲשֶׁר־לָבָןthat had whiteבּוֹin itוְכׇל־חוּםand all darkבַּכְּשָׂבִיםamong the lambsוַיִּתֵּןand gaveבְּיַד־בָּנָיו׃in the hand of his sons

    And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.

36. 36

    וַיָּשֶׂםand he setדֶּרֶךְa journey ofשְׁלֹשֶׁתthreeיָמִיםdaysבֵּינוֹbetween himselfוּבֵיןand betweenיַעֲקֹבJacobוְיַעֲקֹבand Jacobרֹעֶהshepherdאֶת־צֹאןflocksלָבָןLabanהַנּוֹתָרֹת׃that remained

    And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.

37. 37

    וַיִּקַּח־לוֹand took to himיַעֲקֹבJacobמַקַּלrods ofלִבְנֶהpoplarלַחgreenוְלוּזand hazelוְעַרְמוֹןand plane treeוַיְפַצֵּלand he strippedבָּהֵןin themפְּצָלוֹתstripsלְבָנוֹתwhiteמַחְשֹׂףthe peeling ofהַלָּבָןthe white woodאֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־הַמַּקְלוֹת׃upon the branches

    And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

38. 38

    וַיַּצֵּגand he placedאֶת־הַמַּקְלוֹתthe branchesאֲשֶׁרwhichפִּצֵּלhe had strippedבָּרְהָטִיםin the guttersבְּשִׁקְתוֹתin watering channelהַמָּיִםthe waterאֲשֶׁרwhichתָּבֹאןָthey cameהַצֹּאןthe flockלִשְׁתּוֹתto drinkלְנֹכַחbeforeהַצֹּאןthe flockוַיֵּחַמְנָהand they matedבְּבֹאָןwhen they cameלִשְׁתּוֹת׃to drink

    And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.

39. 39

    וַיֶּחֱמוּand they matedהַצֹּאןthe flockאֶל־הַמַּקְלוֹתto the branchesוַתֵּלַדְןָand they boreהַצֹּאןthe flockעֲקֻדִּיםstriped onesנְקֻדִּיםspeckled onesוּטְלֻאִים׃and spotted ones

    And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.

40. 40

    וְהַכְּשָׂבִיםand the lambsהִפְרִידhe separatedיַעֲקֹבJacobוַיִּתֵּןand gaveפְּנֵיthe faces ofהַצֹּאןthe flockאֶל־עָקֹדto the stripedוְכׇל־חוּםand all darkבְּצֹאןamong the flock ofלָבָןLabanוַיָּשֶׁת־לוֹand he set for himselfעֲדָרִיםflocksלְבַדּוֹaloneוְלֹאand notשָׁתָםhe set themעַל־צֹאןupon flocksלָבָן׃Laban

    And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.

41. 41

    וְהָיָהand beבְּכׇל־יַחֵםin all the being in heat ofהַצֹּאןthe flockהַמְקֻשָּׁרוֹתthe strongerוְשָׂםand setיַעֲקֹבJacobאֶת־הַמַּקְלוֹתthe branchesלְעֵינֵיbefore the eyes ofהַצֹּאןthe flockבָּרְהָטִיםin the guttersלְיַחְמֵנָּהthat they might conceiveבַּמַּקְלוֹת׃with the staves

    And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.

42. 42

    וּבְהַעֲטִיףand when was feebleהַצֹּאןthe flockלֹאnotיָשִׂיםhe set themוְהָיָהand so wereהָעֲטֻפִיםthe enfeebled onesלְלָבָןto Labanוְהַקְּשֻׁרִיםand the strongerלְיַעֲקֹב׃to Jacob

    But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.

43. 43

    וַיִּפְרֹץand it has increasedהָאִישׁthe manמְאֹדexceedinglyמְאֹדexceedinglyוַיְהִי־לוֹand he hadצֹאןflocksרַבּוֹתmanyוּשְׁפָחוֹתand female servantsוַעֲבָדִיםand male servantsוּגְמַלִּיםand camelsוַחֲמֹרִים׃and male donkeys

    And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
