1. 1

   וַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand lifted upיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobרַגְלָיוrag/LAYVhis feetוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאַרְצָהAR/tsato the land ofבְנֵי־קֶדֶם׃ve/NE-KE/demthe children of the east

   Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

   And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.

   And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place.

   And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themהַיְדַעְתֶּםhay/da/TEMdo you knowאֶת־לָבָןet-La/VANLabanבֶּן־נָחוֹרben-Na/CHORthe son of Nahorוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidיָדָעְנוּ׃ya/DA/nuwe know

   And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themהֲשָׁלוֹםha/sha/LOMis it wellלוֹlowith himוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMit is wellוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdרָחֵלRa/CHELRachelבִּתּוֹbit/TOhis daughterבָּאָהba/Acomesעִם־הַצֹּאן׃im-hats/TSONwith the flock

   And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהֵןhenbeholdעוֹדodyetהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayגָּדוֹלga/DOLis greatלֹא־עֵתlo-etit is not timeהֵאָסֵףhe/a/SEFto be gatheredהַמִּקְנֶהham/mik/NEthe livestockהַשְׁקוּhash/KUwaterהַצֹּאןhats/TSONthe flockוּלְכוּu/le/KHUand goרְעוּ׃re/Ufeed

   And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלֹאlonotנוּכַלnu/KHALcan weעַדaduntilאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיֵאָסְפוּye/a/se/FUbe gathered togetherכׇּל־הָעֲדָרִיםkol-ha/a/da/RIMall the flocksוְגָלְלוּve/ga/le/LUand they rollאֶת־הָאֶבֶןet-ha/E/venthe stoneמֵעַלme/ALfromפִּיpithe mouth ofהַבְּאֵרhab/be/ERthe wellוְהִשְׁקִינוּve/hish/KI/nuthen we waterהַצֹּאן׃hats/TSONthe flock

   And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.

   And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them.

    And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

    וַיִּשַּׁקvay/yish/SHAKand he kissedיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobלְרָחֵלLe/ra/CHELRachelוַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand lifted upאֶת־קֹלוֹet-ko/LOhis voiceוַיֵּבְךְּ׃vay/YEVKand he wept

    And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

12. 12

    וַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobלְרָחֵלLe/ra/CHELRachelכִּיkithatאֲחִיa/CHIthe brother ofאָבִיהָa/VI/haher fatherהוּאhuhe wasוְכִיve/KHIand thatבֶן־רִבְקָהven-Riv/KAthe son of Rebekahהוּאhuhe wasוַתָּרׇץvat/TA/rotsand she ranוַתַּגֵּדvat/tag/GEDand toldלְאָבִיהָ׃le/a/VI/haher father

    And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִשְׁמֹעַkhish/MO/awhen heardלָבָןLa/VANLabanאֶת־שֵׁמַעet-SHE/mathe tidings ofיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobבֶּן־אֲחֹתוֹben-a/cho/TOhis sister's sonוַיָּרׇץvay/YA/rotsand he ranלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himוַיְחַבֶּק־לוֹvay/chab/BEK-loand embraced himוַיְנַשֶּׁק־לוֹvay/nash/SHEK-loand kissed himוַיְבִיאֵהוּvay/vi/E/huand brought himאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוַיְסַפֵּרvay/sap/PERand he toldלְלָבָןLe/la/VANLabanאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםet-kol-had/de/va/RIMall the thingsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himלָבָןLa/VANLabanאַךְakhsurelyעַצְמִיats/MImy boneוּבְשָׂרִיu/ve/sa/RIand my fleshאָתָּהAT/taare youוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand he abodeעִמּוֹim/MOwith himחֹדֶשׁCHO/desha month ofיָמִים׃ya/MIMdays

    And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָבָןLa/VANLabanלְיַעֲקֹבle/Ya/a/KOVto Jacobהֲכִי־אָחִיha/KHI-a/CHIbecause my brotherאַתָּהat/TAare youוַעֲבַדְתַּנִיva/a/vad/TA/nishould you serve meחִנָּםchin/NAMfor nothingהַגִּידָהhag/GI/datellלִּיlimeמַה־מַּשְׂכֻּרְתֶּךָ׃ma-mas/kur/TE/khawhat shall your wages be

    And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

16. 16

    וּלְלָבָןu/Le/la/VANand to Labanשְׁתֵּיshtetwoבָנוֹתva/NOTdaughtersשֵׁםshemthe name ofהַגְּדֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe elderלֵאָהLe/ALeahוְשֵׁםve/SHEMand the name ofהַקְּטַנָּהhak/ke/tan/NAthe youngerרָחֵל׃Ra/CHELRachel

    And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

17. 17

    וְעֵינֵיve/e/NEand the eyes ofלֵאָהLe/ALeahרַכּוֹתrak/KOTwere tenderוְרָחֵלve/Ra/CHELand Rachelהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasיְפַת־תֹּאַרye/FAT-TO/arfair of formוִיפַתVI/fatand fair ofמַרְאֶה׃mar/Eappearance

    Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

18. 18

    וַיֶּאֱהַבvay/ye/e/HAVand he lovedיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobאֶת־רָחֵלet-Ra/CHELRachelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶעֱבׇדְךָe/e/vod/KHAI will serve youשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsבְּרָחֵלbe/Ra/CHELfor Rachelבִּתְּךָbit/te/KHAyour daughterהַקְּטַנָּה׃hak/ke/tan/NAthe younger

    And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָבָןLa/VANLabanטוֹבtovit is betterתִּתִּיtit/TIthat I giveאֹתָהּo/TAherלָךְlakhto youמִתִּתִּיmit/tit/TIthan that I should giveאֹתָהּo/TAherלְאִישׁle/ISHfor a manאַחֵרa/CHERanotherשְׁבָהshe/VAabideעִמָּדִי׃im/ma/DIwith me

    And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

20. 20

    וַיַּעֲבֹדvay/ya/a/VODand servedיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobבְּרָחֵלbe/Ra/CHELfor RachelשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they seemedבְעֵינָיוve/e/NAYVin his eyesכְּיָמִיםke/ya/MIMas daysאֲחָדִיםa/cha/DIMa fewבְּאַהֲבָתוֹbe/a/ha/va/TOfor his loveאֹתָהּ׃o/TAher

    And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobאֶל־לָבָןel-La/VANto LabanהָבָהHA/vagive meאֶת־אִשְׁתִּיet-ish/TImy wifeכִּיkiforמָלְאוּma/le/Uare fulfilledיָמָיya/MAYmy daysוְאָבוֹאָהve/a/VO/athat I may go inאֵלֶיהָ׃e/LE/hato her

    And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

22. 22

    וַיֶּאֱסֹףvay/ye/e/SOFand gatheredלָבָןLa/VANLabanאֶת־כׇּל־אַנְשֵׁיet-kol-an/SHEall the men ofהַמָּקוֹםham/ma/KOMthe placeוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeמִשְׁתֶּה׃mish/TEa feast

    And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

23. 23

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבָעֶרֶבva/E/revin the eveningוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־לֵאָהet-Le/ALeahבִתּוֹvit/TOhis daughterוַיָּבֵאvay/ya/VEand he broughtאֹתָהּo/TAherאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he went inאֵלֶיהָ׃e/LE/hato her

    And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

24. 24

    וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveלָבָןLa/VANLabanלָהּlato herאֶת־זִלְפָּהet-Zil/PAZilpahשִׁפְחָתוֹshif/cha/TOhis handmaidלְלֵאָהle/Le/Ato Leahבִתּוֹvit/TOhis daughterשִׁפְחָה׃shif/CHAfor a handmaid

    And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַבֹּקֶרvab/BO/kerin the morningוְהִנֵּה־הִואve/hin/NE-hivand behold it wasלֵאָהLe/ALeahוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־לָבָןel-La/VANto Labanמַה־זֹּאתma-zotwhat is thisעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tayou have doneלִּיlito meהֲלֹאha/LOwas it notבְרָחֵלve/Ra/CHELfor Rachelעָבַדְתִּיa/VAD/tiI servedעִמָּךְim/MAKHwith youוְלָמָּהve/LAM/mawhy thenרִמִּיתָנִי׃rim/mi/TA/nihave you beguiled me

    And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

26. 26

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָבָןLa/VANLabanלֹא־יֵעָשֶׂהlo-ye/a/SEit must not be doneכֵןkhensoבִּמְקוֹמֵנוּbim/ko/ME/nuin our placeלָתֵתla/TETto giveהַצְּעִירָהhats/tse/i/RAthe youngerלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַבְּכִירָה׃hab/be/khi/RAthe firstborn

    And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

27. 27

    מַלֵּאmal/LEfulfilשְׁבֻעַshe/VU/athe week ofזֹאתzotthis oneוְנִתְּנָהve/nit/te/NAand we will giveלְךָle/KHAyouגַּם־אֶת־זֹאתgam-et-zotthis alsoבַּעֲבֹדָהba/a/vo/DAfor the serviceאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתַּעֲבֹדta/a/VODyou shall serveעִמָּדִיim/ma/DIwith meעוֹדodyetשֶׁבַע־שָׁנִיםSHE/va-sha/NIMseven yearsאֲחֵרוֹת׃a/che/ROTother

    Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

28. 28

    וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobכֵּןkensoוַיְמַלֵּאvay/mal/LEand fulfilledשְׁבֻעַshe/VU/athe week ofזֹאתzotthis oneוַיִּתֶּן־לוֹvay/YIT/ten-loand gave himאֶת־רָחֵלet-Ra/CHELRachelבִּתּוֹbit/TOhis daughterלוֹloto himלְאִשָּׁה׃le/ish/SHAto wife

    And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

29. 29

    וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveלָבָןLa/VANLabanלְרָחֵלLe/ra/CHELRachelבִּתּוֹbit/TOhis daughterאֶת־בִּלְהָהet-Bil/HABilhahשִׁפְחָתוֹshif/cha/TOhis handmaidלָהּlato herלְשִׁפְחָה׃le/shif/CHAto be her handmaid

    And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.

30. 30

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he went inגַּםgamalsoאֶל־רָחֵלel-Ra/CHELto Rachelוַיֶּאֱהַבvay/ye/e/HAVand he lovedגַּם־אֶת־רָחֵלgam-et-Ra/CHELalso Rachelמִלֵּאָהmil/Le/Amore than Leahוַיַּעֲבֹדvay/ya/a/VODand servedעִמּוֹim/MOwith himעוֹדodyetשֶׁבַע־שָׁנִיםSHE/va-sha/NIMseven yearsאֲחֵרוֹת׃a/che/ROTother

    And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

31. 31

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDכִּי־שְׂנוּאָהki-se/nu/Athat was hatedלֵאָהLe/ALeahוַיִּפְתַּחvay/yif/TACHand He openedאֶת־רַחְמָהּet-rach/MAher wombוְרָחֵלve/Ra/CHELand Rachelעֲקָרָה׃a/ka/RAwas barren

    And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

32. 32

    וַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedלֵאָהLe/ALeahוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreבֵּןbena sonוַתִּקְרָאvat/tik/RAand she calledשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameרְאוּבֵןRe/u/VENReubenכִּיkiforאָמְרָהa/me/RAshe saidכִּי־רָאָהki-ra/Athat has seenיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּעׇנְיִיbe/on/YImy afflictionכִּיkiforעַתָּהat/TAnowיֶאֱהָבַנִיye/e/ha/VA/niwill love meאִישִׁי׃i/SHImy husband

    And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

33. 33

    וַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedעוֹדodagainוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreבֵּןbena sonוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidכִּי־שָׁמַעki-sha/MAbecause has heardיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDכִּי־שְׂנוּאָהki-se/nu/Athat was hatedאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIוַיִּתֶּן־לִיvay/YIT/ten-liand He has given meגַּם־אֶת־זֶהgam-et-zealso thisוַתִּקְרָאvat/tik/RAand she calledשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameשִׁמְעוֹן׃Shim/ONSimeon

    And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

34. 34

    וַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedעוֹדodagainוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreבֵּןbena sonוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidעַתָּהat/TAnowהַפַּעַםhap/PA/amthis timeיִלָּוֶהyil/la/VEwill be joinedאִישִׁיi/SHImy husbandאֵלַיe/LAYto meכִּי־יָלַדְתִּיki-ya/LAD/tibecause I have borneלוֹloto himשְׁלֹשָׁהshe/lo/SHAthreeבָנִיםva/NIMsonsעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeקָרָא־שְׁמוֹka/RA-she/MOwas his name calledלֵוִי׃Le/VILevi

    And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

35. 35

    וַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedעוֹדodagainוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreבֵּןbena sonוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidהַפַּעַםhap/PA/amthis timeאוֹדֶהo/DEI will praiseאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeקָרְאָהka/re/Ashe calledשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַתַּעֲמֹדvat/ta/a/MODand left offמִלֶּדֶת׃mil/LE/detbearing

    And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
