1. 1

   וַיִּקְרָאand calledיִצְחָקIsaacאֶל־יַעֲקֹבto Jacobוַיְבָרֶךְand blessedאֹתוֹhimוַיְצַוֵּהוּand commanded himוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלוֹto himלֹא־תִקַּחnot you will takeאִשָּׁהa womanמִבְּנוֹתof the daughters ofכְּנָעַן׃Canaan

   And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

2. 2

   קוּםariseלֵךְgoפַּדֶּנָהto Padan-אֲרָםaramבֵּיתָהto the house ofבְתוּאֵלBethuelאֲבִיthe father ofאִמֶּךָyour motherוְקַח־לְךָand take for youמִשָּׁםfrom thereאִשָּׁהa womanמִבְּנוֹתof the daughters ofלָבָןLabanאֲחִיthe brother ofאִמֶּךָ׃your mother

   Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.

3. 3

   וְאֵלand GodשַׁדַּיAlmightyיְבָרֵךְmay he blessאֹתְךָyouוְיַפְרְךָand may he make fruitful youוְיַרְבֶּךָand may he multiply youוְהָיִיתָand you shall becomeלִקְהַלa company ofעַמִּים׃peoples

   And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

4. 4

   וְיִתֶּן־לְךָand may He grant for youאֶת־בִּרְכַּתblessing ofאַבְרָהָםAbrahamלְךָfor youוּלְזַרְעֲךָand to your offspringאִתָּךְwith youלְרִשְׁתְּךָfor you to possessאֶת־אֶרֶץthe land ofמְגֻרֶיךָyour sojourningsאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןwhich gaveאֱלֹהִיםGodלְאַבְרָהָם׃unto Abraham

   And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.

5. 5

   וַיִּשְׁלַחand sentיִצְחָקIsaacאֶת־יַעֲקֹבJacobוַיֵּלֶךְand wentפַּדֶּנָהto Padan-אֲרָםaramאֶל־לָבָןto Labanבֶּן־בְּתוּאֵלson of Bethuelהָאֲרַמִּיthe Syrianאֲחִיthe brother ofרִבְקָהRebekahאֵםmother ofיַעֲקֹבJacobוְעֵשָׂו׃and Esau

   And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padan-aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

6. 6

   וַיַּרְאand sawעֵשָׂוEsauכִּי־בֵרַךְbecause he had blessedיִצְחָקIsaacאֶת־יַעֲקֹבJacobוְשִׁלַּחand he shall send awayאֹתוֹhimפַּדֶּנָהto Padan-אֲרָםaramלָקַחַת־לוֹto take for himselfמִשָּׁםfrom thereאִשָּׁהa womanבְּבָרְכוֹwhen he blessedאֹתוֹhimוַיְצַוand commandedעָלָיוupon himלֵאמֹרsayingלֹא־תִקַּחnot you will takeאִשָּׁהa womanמִבְּנוֹתof the daughters ofכְּנָעַן׃Canaan

   When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

   וַיִּשְׁמַעand he heardיַעֲקֹבJacobאֶל־אָבִיוto his fatherוְאֶל־אִמּוֹand to his motherוַיֵּלֶךְand wentפַּדֶּנָהto Padan-אֲרָם׃aram

   And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-aram;

8. 8

   וַיַּרְאand sawעֵשָׂוEsauכִּיthatרָעוֹתwere displeasingבְּנוֹתthe daughters ofכְּנָעַןCanaanבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofיִצְחָקIsaacאָבִיו׃his father

   And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;

9. 9

   וַיֵּלֶךְand wentעֵשָׂוEsauאֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵאלto Ishmaelוַיִּקַּחand tookאֶת־מָחֲלַתMahalathבַּת־יִשְׁמָעֵאלdaughter of Ishmaelבֶּן־אַבְרָהָםson of Abrahamאֲחוֹתthe sister ofנְבָיוֹתNebaiothעַל־נָשָׁיוbesides his wivesלוֹfor himselfלְאִשָּׁה׃as a wife

   Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

10. 10

    וַיֵּצֵאand went outיַעֲקֹבJacobמִבְּאֵרfrom Beer-שָׁבַעshebaוַיֵּלֶךְand wentחָרָנָה׃to Haran

    And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.

11. 11

    וַיִּפְגַּעand he encounteredבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeוַיָּלֶןand he lodgedשָׁםthereכִּי־בָאbecause had setהַשֶּׁמֶשׁthe sunוַיִּקַּחand tookמֵאַבְנֵיof the stones ofהַמָּקוֹםthe placeוַיָּשֶׂםand he putמְרַאֲשֹׁתָיוunder his headוַיִּשְׁכַּבand he lay downבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeהַהוּא׃that

    And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

12. 12

    וַיַּחֲלֹםand he dreamedוְהִנֵּהand beholdסֻלָּםa stairwayמֻצָּבset upאַרְצָהon the earthוְרֹאשׁוֹand its topמַגִּיעַreachingהַשָּׁמָיְמָהunto the heavensוְהִנֵּהand beholdמַלְאֲכֵיthe angels ofאֱלֹהִיםGodעֹלִיםascendingוְיֹרְדִיםand descendingבּוֹ׃on it

    And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

13. 13

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdיְהֹוָהthe LORDנִצָּבstoodעָלָיוupon himוַיֹּאמַרand saidאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofאַבְרָהָםAbrahamאָבִיךָyour fatherוֵאלֹהֵיand God ofיִצְחָקIsaacהָאָרֶץthe landאֲשֶׁרwhichאַתָּהyouשֹׁכֵבlieעָלֶיהָupon itלְךָfor youאֶתְּנֶנָּהI will give itוּלְזַרְעֶךָ׃and to your offspring

    And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

14. 14

    וְהָיָהand shall beזַרְעֲךָyour seedכַּעֲפַרas the dust ofהָאָרֶץthe earthוּפָרַצְתָּand you will spread outיָמָּהwestwardוָקֵדְמָהand eastwardוְצָפֹנָהand northwardוָנֶגְבָּהand southwardוְנִבְרְכוּand they were blessedבְךָin youכׇּל־מִשְׁפְּחֹתall the families ofהָאֲדָמָהthe groundוּבְזַרְעֶךָ׃and in your offspring

    And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

15. 15

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdאָנֹכִיIעִמָּךְam with youוּשְׁמַרְתִּיךָand I will protect youבְּכֹלin allאֲשֶׁר־תֵּלֵךְwherever you goוַהֲשִׁבֹתִיךָand I will bring you backאֶל־הָאֲדָמָהto the groundהַזֹּאתthisכִּיforלֹאnotאֶעֱזׇבְךָI will forsake youעַדuntilאֲשֶׁרthatאִם־עָשִׂיתִיI have doneאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּרְתִּיthat which I have spokenלָךְ׃to you

    And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

16. 16

    וַיִּיקַץand he awokeיַעֲקֹבJacobמִשְּׁנָתוֹfrom his sleepוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאָכֵןsurelyיֵשׁisיְהֹוָהthe LORDבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeהַזֶּהthisוְאָנֹכִיand Iלֹאnotיָדָעְתִּי׃I know

    And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.

17. 17

    וַיִּירָאand he fearedוַיֹּאמַרand saidמַה־נּוֹרָאhow awesomeהַמָּקוֹםthe placeהַזֶּהthisאֵיןis noneזֶהthisכִּיbutאִם־בֵּיתother than the house ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְזֶהand thisשַׁעַרthe gate ofהַשָּׁמָיִם׃the heavens

    And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

18. 18

    וַיַּשְׁכֵּםand he rose earlyיַעֲקֹבJacobבַּבֹּקֶרin the morningוַיִּקַּחand tookאֶת־הָאֶבֶןthe stoneאֲשֶׁר־שָׂםwhich he had putמְרַאֲשֹׁתָיוunder his headוַיָּשֶׂםand he setאֹתָהּitמַצֵּבָהa pillarוַיִּצֹקand he pouredשֶׁמֶןoilעַל־רֹאשָׁהּ׃upon its top

    And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

19. 19

    וַיִּקְרָאand calledאֶת־שֵׁם־הַמָּקוֹםname of the placeהַהוּאthatבֵּית־אֵלBeth-elוְאוּלָםneverthelessלוּזLuzשֵׁם־הָעִירthe name of the cityלָרִאשֹׁנָה׃at the first

    And he called the name of that place Beth-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

20. 20

    וַיִּדַּרand he vowedיַעֲקֹבJacobנֶדֶרa vowלֵאמֹרsayingאִם־יִהְיֶהif will beאֱלֹהִיםGodעִמָּדִיwith meוּשְׁמָרַנִיand he will protect meבַּדֶּרֶךְin the wayהַזֶּהthisאֲשֶׁרwhichאָנֹכִיIהוֹלֵךְgoingוְנָתַן־לִיand will give meלֶחֶםbreadלֶאֱכֹלto eatוּבֶגֶדand garmentלִלְבֹּשׁ׃to wear

    And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

21. 21

    וְשַׁבְתִּיand I will returnבְשָׁלוֹםin peaceאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofאָבִיmy fatherוְהָיָהand shall beיְהֹוָהthe LORDלִיto meלֵאלֹהִים׃God

    So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

22. 22

    וְהָאֶבֶןand the stoneהַזֹּאתthisאֲשֶׁר־שַׂמְתִּיwhich I have setמַצֵּבָהa pillarיִהְיֶהshall beבֵּיתthe house ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְכֹלand allאֲשֶׁרwhichתִּתֶּן־לִיyou will give meעַשֵּׂרsurelyאֲעַשְּׂרֶנּוּI will tithe itלָךְ׃to you

    And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
