   And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

   וַיֵּרָאvay/ye/RAand appearedאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַל־תֵּרֵדal-te/REDgo not downמִצְרָיְמָהMits/RAY/mato Egyptשְׁכֹןshe/KHONdwellבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֹמַרo/MARI shall tellאֵלֶיךָ׃e/LE/khato you

   And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

   גּוּרgursojournבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוְאֶהְיֶהve/eh/YEand I will beעִמְּךָim/me/KHAwith youוַאֲבָרְכֶךָּva/a/va/re/KHEK/kaand I will bless youכִּי־לְךָki-le/KHAfor to youוּלְזַרְעֲךָu/le/zar/a/KHAand to your seedאֶתֵּןet/TENI will giveאֶת־כׇּל־הָאֲרָצֹתet-kol-ha/a/ra/TSOTall the landsהָאֵלha/ELtheseוַהֲקִמֹתִיva/ha/ki/mo/TIand I will performאֶת־הַשְּׁבֻעָהet-hash/she/vu/Athe oathאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיnish/BA/tiI sworeלְאַבְרָהָםle/Av/ra/HAMto Abrahamאָבִיךָ׃a/VI/khayour father

   Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

   וְהִרְבֵּיתִיve/hir/be/TIand I will multiplyאֶת־זַרְעֲךָet-zar/a/KHAyour seedכְּכוֹכְבֵיke/khokh/VElike the stars ofהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensוְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TIand I will giveלְזַרְעֲךָle/zar/a/KHAto your seedאֵת־כׇּל־הָאֲרָצֹתet-kol-ha/a/ra/TSOTall the landsהָאֵלha/ELtheseוְהִתְבָּרְכוּve/hit/BAR/khuand shall bless themselvesבְזַרְעֲךָve/zar/a/KHAin your seedכֹּלkolallגּוֹיֵיgo/YEnations ofהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsthe earth

   And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

   עֵקֶבE/kevbecauseאֲשֶׁר־שָׁמַעa/SHER-sha/MAthat obeyedאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamבְּקֹלִיbe/ko/LImy voiceוַיִּשְׁמֹרvay/yish/MORand keptמִשְׁמַרְתִּיmish/mar/TImy chargeמִצְוֺתַיmits/vo/TAYmy commandmentsחֻקּוֹתַיchuk/ko/TAYmy statutesוְתוֹרֹתָי׃ve/to/ro/TAYand my laws

   Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

   וַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand he dweltיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacבִּגְרָר׃Big/RARin Gerar

   And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:

   וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּvay/yish/a/LUand askedאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהַמָּקוֹםham/ma/KOMthe placeלְאִשְׁתּוֹle/ish/TOof his wifeוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲחֹתִיa/cho/TImy sisterהִואhivshe isכִּיkiforיָרֵאya/REhe fearedלֵאמֹרle/MORto sayאִשְׁתִּיish/TImy wifeפֶּן־יַהַרְגֻנִיpen-ya/har/GU/nilest should kill meאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהַמָּקוֹםham/ma/KOMthe placeעַל־רִבְקָהal-Riv/KAfor Rebekahכִּי־טוֹבַתki-to/VATbecause fair ofמַרְאֶהmar/Eappearanceהִוא׃hivshe is

   And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּיkiwhenאָרְכוּ־לוֹa/re/KHU-lohad been long to himשָׁםshamthereהַיָּמִיםhay/ya/MIMthe daysוַיַּשְׁקֵףvay/yash/KEFand looked outאֲבִימֶלֶךְA/vi/ME/lekhAbimelechמֶלֶךְME/lekhking ofפְּלִשְׁתִּיםPe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesבְּעַדbe/ADatהַחַלּוֹןha/chal/LONthe windowוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacמְצַחֵקme/tsa/CHEKsporting withאֵת־רִבְקָהet-Riv/KARebekahאִשְׁתּוֹ׃ish/TOhis wife

   And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

   וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledאֲבִימֶלֶךְA/vi/ME/lekhAbimelechלְיִצְחָקLe/yits/CHAKIsaacוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַךְakhsurelyהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאִשְׁתְּךָish/te/KHAyour wifeהִואhivshe isוְאֵיךְve/EKHand howאָמַרְתָּa/MAR/tasaid youאֲחֹתִיa/cho/TImy sisterהִואhivshe isוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacכִּיkibecauseאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI saidפֶּן־אָמוּתpen-a/MUTlest I dieעָלֶיהָ׃a/LE/hafor her

   And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲבִימֶלֶךְA/vi/ME/lekhAbimelechמַה־זֹּאתma-zotwhat is thisעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tayou have doneלָּנוּLA/nuto usכִּמְעַטkim/ATlightlyשָׁכַבsha/KHAVmight have lainאַחַדa/CHADoneהָעָםha/AMof the peopleאֶת־אִשְׁתֶּךָet-ish/TE/khayour wifeוְהֵבֵאתָve/he/ve/TAand you should have broughtעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usאָשָׁם׃a/SHAMguiltiness

    And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.

11. 11

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedאֲבִימֶלֶךְA/vi/ME/lekhAbimelechאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָםet-kol-ha/AMall the peopleלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהַנֹּגֵעַhan/no/GE/ahe that touchesבָּאִישׁba/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוּבְאִשְׁתּוֹu/ve/ish/TOand against his wifeמוֹתmotdieיוּמָת׃yu/MATshall be put to death

    And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

12. 12

    וַיִּזְרַעvay/yiz/RAand he sowedיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַהִואha/HIVthatוַיִּמְצָאvay/yim/TSAand foundבַּשָּׁנָהbash/sha/NAin the yearהַהִואha/HIVthatמֵאָהme/Aa hundredשְׁעָרִיםshe/a/RIMfoldוַיְבָרְכֵהוּvay/va/re/KHE/huand blessed himיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

13. 13

    וַיִּגְדַּלvay/yig/DALand became greatהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentהָלוֹךְha/LOKHgoingוְגָדֵלve/ga/DELand growing greatעַדaduntilכִּי־גָדַלki-ga/DALhe became greatמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

14. 14

    וַיְהִי־לוֹvay/HI-lofor he hadמִקְנֵה־צֹאןmik/NE-tsonpossession of flocksוּמִקְנֵהu/mik/NEand possession ofבָקָרva/KARherdsוַעֲבֻדָּהva/a/vud/DAand a householdרַבָּהrab/BAgreatוַיְקַנְאוּvay/kan/Uand they enviedאֹתוֹo/TOhimפְּלִשְׁתִּים׃Pe/lish/TIMthe Philistines

    For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

15. 15

    וְכׇל־הַבְּאֵרֹתve/KHOL-hab/be/e/ROTand all the wellsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחָפְרוּcha/fe/RUthey had dugעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servants ofאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherסִתְּמוּםsit/te/MUMhad stopped themפְּלִשְׁתִּיםPe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesוַיְמַלְאוּםvay/mal/UMand filled them withעָפָר׃a/FARearth

    For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲבִימֶלֶךְA/vi/ME/lekhAbimelechאֶל־יִצְחָקel-Yits/CHAKto Isaacלֵךְlekhgoמֵעִמָּנוּme/im/MA/nufrom usכִּי־עָצַמְתָּki-a/TSAM/tafor you are mightierמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuthan weמְאֹד׃me/ODmuch

    And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.

17. 17

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacוַיִּחַןvay/YI/chanand encampedבְּנַחַל־גְּרָרbe/NA/chal-ge/RARin the valley of Gerarוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand he dweltשָׁם׃shamthere

    And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.

18. 18

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand returnedיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacוַיַּחְפֹּרvay/yach/PORand dug againאֶת־בְּאֵרֹתet-be/e/ROTthe wells ofהַמַּיִםham/MA/yimwaterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחָפְרוּcha/fe/RUthey had dugבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherוַיְסַתְּמוּםvay/sat/te/MUMand had stopped themפְּלִשְׁתִּיםPe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterמוֹתmotthe death ofאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledלָהֶןla/HENthemשֵׁמוֹתshe/MOTnamesכַּשֵּׁמֹתkash/she/MOTafter the namesאֲשֶׁר־קָרָאa/SHER-ka/RAwhich calledלָהֶןla/HENthemאָבִיו׃a/VIVhis father

    And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

19. 19

    וַיַּחְפְּרוּvay/yach/pe/RUand they dugעַבְדֵי־יִצְחָקav/DE-Yits/CHAKthe servants of Isaacבַּנָּחַלban/NA/chalin the valleyוַיִּמְצְאוּ־שָׁםvay/yim/tse/U-shamand found thereבְּאֵרbe/ERa well ofמַיִםMA/yimwaterחַיִּים׃chay/YIMliving

    And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.

20. 20

    וַיָּרִיבוּvay/ya/RI/vuand stroveרֹעֵיro/Ethe herdmen ofגְרָרGe/RARGerarעִם־רֹעֵיim-ro/Ewith the herdmen ofיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלָנוּLA/nuis oursהַמָּיִםham/MA/yimthe waterוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledשֵׁם־הַבְּאֵרshem-hab/be/ERthe name of the wellעֵשֶׂקE/sekEsekכִּיkibecauseהִתְעַשְּׂקוּhit/as/se/KUthey stroveעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

    And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.

21. 21

    וַיַּחְפְּרוּvay/yach/pe/RUand they dugבְּאֵרbe/ERa wellאַחֶרֶתa/CHE/retanotherוַיָּרִיבוּvay/ya/RI/vuand they stroveגַּם־עָלֶיהָgam-a/LE/hafor that alsoוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledשְׁמָהּshe/MAits nameשִׂטְנָה׃Sit/NASitnah

    And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.

22. 22

    וַיַּעְתֵּקvay/ya/TEKand he removedמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוַיַּחְפֹּרvay/yach/PORand he dugבְּאֵרbe/ERa wellאַחֶרֶתa/CHE/retanotherוְלֹאve/LOand notרָבוּra/VUthey stroveעָלֶיהָa/LE/hafor itוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledשְׁמָהּshe/MAits nameרְחֹבוֹתRe/cho/VOTRehobothוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכִּי־עַתָּהki-at/TAfor nowהִרְחִיבhir/CHIVhas made roomיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָנוּLA/nuto usוּפָרִינוּu/fa/RI/nuand we shall be fruitfulבָאָרֶץ׃va/A/retsin the land

    And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

23. 23

    וַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland he went upמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereבְּאֵרbe/ERto Beer-שָׁבַע׃SHA/vasheba

    And he went up from thence to Beer-sheba.

24. 24

    וַיֵּרָאvay/ye/RAand appearedאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/lain the nightהַהוּאha/HUthatוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאָנֹכִיa/no/KHII amאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherאַל־תִּירָאal-ti/RAbe not afraidכִּי־אִתְּךָki-it/te/KHAfor with youאָנֹכִיa/no/KHII amוּבֵרַכְתִּיךָu/ve/rakh/TI/khaand I will bless youוְהִרְבֵּיתִיve/hir/be/TIand I will multiplyאֶת־זַרְעֲךָet-zar/a/KHAyour seedבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURfor the sake ofאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamעַבְדִּי׃av/DImy servant

    And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake.

25. 25

    וַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand builtשָׁםshamthereמִזְבֵּחַmiz/BE/achan altarוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMupon the name ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיֶּט־שָׁםvay/YET-shamand pitched thereאׇהֳלוֹo/ho/LOhis tentוַיִּכְרוּ־שָׁםvay/yikh/RU-shamand there dugעַבְדֵי־יִצְחָקav/DE-Yits/CHAKthe servants of Isaacבְּאֵר׃be/ERa well

    And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants digged a well.

26. 26

    וַאֲבִימֶלֶךְva/A/vi/ME/lekhand Abimelechהָלַךְha/LAKHwentאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמִגְּרָרmig/Ge/RARfrom Gerarוַאֲחֻזַּתva/A/chuz/ZATand Ahuzzathמֵרֵעֵהוּme/re/E/huhis friendוּפִיכֹלu/Fi/KHOLand Phicholשַׂר־צְבָאוֹ׃sar-tse/va/Othe captain of his host

    Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.

27. 27

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyבָּאתֶםba/TEMare you comeאֵלָיe/LAYto meוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMseeing youשְׂנֵאתֶםse/ne/TEMhateאֹתִיo/TImeוַתְּשַׁלְּחוּנִיvat/te/shal/le/CHU/niand have sent me awayמֵאִתְּכֶם׃me/it/te/KHEMfrom you

    And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?

28. 28

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidרָאוֹra/Oseeרָאִינוּra/I/nuwe sawכִּי־הָיָהki-ha/YAthat wasיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעִמָּךְim/MAKHwith youוַנֹּאמֶרvan/NO/merand we saidתְּהִיte/HIlet it beנָאnanowאָלָהa/LAan oathבֵּינוֹתֵינוּbe/no/TE/nubetwixt usבֵּינֵינוּbe/NE/nueven between usוּבֵינֶךָu/ve/NE/khaand between youוְנִכְרְתָהve/nikh/re/TAand let us makeבְרִיתve/RITa covenantעִמָּךְ׃im/MAKHwith you

    And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;

29. 29

    אִם־תַּעֲשֵׂהim-ta/a/SEthat you will not doעִמָּנוּim/MA/nuto usרָעָהra/Ahurtכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasלֹאlonotנְגַעֲנוּךָne/ga/a/NU/khawe have touched youוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand asעָשִׂינוּa/SI/nuwe have doneעִמְּךָim/me/KHAto youרַק־טוֹבrak-tovnothing but goodוַנְּשַׁלֵּחֲךָvan/ne/shal/le/cha/KHAand have sent you awayבְּשָׁלוֹםbe/sha/LOMin peaceאַתָּהat/TAyouעַתָּהat/TAnowבְּרוּךְbe/RUKHthe blessed ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.

30. 30

    וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeלָהֶםla/HEMfor themמִשְׁתֶּהmish/TEa feastוַיֹּאכְלוּvay/yo/khe/LUand they ateוַיִּשְׁתּוּ׃vay/yish/TUand drank

    And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.

31. 31

    וַיַּשְׁכִּימוּvay/yash/KI/muand they rose up earlyבַבֹּקֶרvab/BO/kerin the morningוַיִּשָּׁבְעוּvay/yish/sha/ve/Uand they sworeאִישׁishoneלְאָחִיוle/a/CHIVto anotherוַיְשַׁלְּחֵםvay/shal/le/CHEMand sent them awayיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentמֵאִתּוֹme/it/TOfrom himבְּשָׁלוֹם׃be/sha/LOMin peace

    And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

32. 32

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servants ofיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacוַיַּגִּדוּvay/yag/GI/duand toldלוֹlohimעַל־אֹדוֹתal-o/DOTconcerningהַבְּאֵרhab/be/ERthe wellאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחָפָרוּcha/FA/ruthey had dugוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלוֹlohimמָצָאנוּma/TSA/nuwe have foundמָיִם׃MA/yimwater

    And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.

33. 33

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledאֹתָהּo/TAitשִׁבְעָהShiv/AShebahעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeשֵׁם־הָעִירshem-ha/IRthe name of the cityבְּאֵרBe/ERBeer-שֶׁבַעSHE/vashebaעַדaduntoהַיּוֹםhay/YOMdayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beer-sheba unto this day.

34. 34

    And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
