Genesis 23 בְּרֵאשִׁית פרק כ״ג

   וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand wasחַיֵּיchay/YEthe life ofשָׂרָהSa/RASarahמֵאָהme/Aa hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוְעֶשְׂרִיםve/es/RIMand twentyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוְשֶׁבַעve/SHE/vaand sevenשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsשְׁנֵיshe/NEthe years ofחַיֵּיchay/YEthe life ofשָׂרָה׃Sa/RASarah

   And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.

   וַתָּמׇתvat/TA/motand diedשָׂרָהSa/RASarahבְּקִרְיַתbe/Kir/YATin Kirjath-אַרְבַּעar/BAarbaהִואhivthe same isחֶבְרוֹןChev/RONHebronבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofכְּנָעַןKe/NA/anCanaanוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamלִסְפֹּדlis/PODto mournלְשָׂרָהle/Sa/RAfor Sarahוְלִבְכֹּתָהּ׃ve/liv/ko/TAand to weep for her

   And Sarah died in Kirjath-arba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

   וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand rose upאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamמֵעַלme/ALfrom beforeפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofמֵתוֹme/TOhis deadוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֶל־בְּנֵי־חֵתel-Be/NE-chetto the sons of Hethלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,

   גֵּר־וְתוֹשָׁבger-ve/to/SHAVa stranger and a sojournerאָנֹכִיa/no/KHII amעִמָּכֶםim/ma/KHEMwith youתְּנוּte/NUgiveלִיlimeאֲחֻזַּת־קֶבֶרa/chuz/ZAT-KE/vera possession of a burying placeעִמָּכֶםim/ma/KHEMwith youוְאֶקְבְּרָהve/ek/be/RAthat I may buryמֵתִיme/TImy deadמִלְּפָנָי׃mil/le/fa/NAYout of my sight

   I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

   וַיַּעֲנוּvay/ya/a/NUand they answeredבְנֵי־חֵתve/NE-chetthe sons of Hethאֶת־אַבְרָהָםet-Av/ra/HAMAbrahamלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלוֹ׃loto him

   And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,

   שְׁמָעֵנוּshe/ma/E/nuhear usאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordנְשִׂיאne/SIa prince ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאַתָּהat/TAyou areבְּתוֹכֵנוּbe/to/KHE/nuamong usבְּמִבְחַרbe/miv/CHARin the choice ofקְבָרֵינוּke/va/RE/nuour sepulchresקְבֹרke/VORburyאֶת־מֵתֶךָet-me/TE/khayour deadאִישׁishnoneמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof usאֶת־קִבְרוֹet-kiv/ROhis sepulchreלֹא־יִכְלֶהlo-yikh/LEshall withholdמִמְּךָmim/me/KHAfrom youמִקְּבֹרmik/ke/VORfrom buryingמֵתֶךָ׃me/TE/khayour dead

   Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.

   וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand rose upאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed himselfלְעַם־הָאָרֶץle/AM-ha/A/retsto the people of the landלִבְנֵי־חֵת׃liv/NE-Chetto the sons of Heth

   And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

   וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאִתָּםit/TAMwith themלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאִם־יֵשׁim-yeshif it beאֶת־נַפְשְׁכֶםet-naf/she/KHEMyour mindלִקְבֹּרlik/BORto buryאֶת־מֵתִיet-me/TImy deadמִלְּפָנַיmil/le/fa/NAYout of my sightשְׁמָעוּנִיshe/ma/U/nihear meוּפִגְעוּ־לִיu/fig/U-liand entreat for meבְּעֶפְרוֹןBe/ef/RONEphronבֶּן־צֹחַר׃ben-TSO/charthe son of Zohar

   And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

   וְיִתֶּן־לִיve/yit/TEN-lithat he may give meאֶת־מְעָרַתet-me/a/RATthe cave ofהַמַּכְפֵּלָהHam/makh/pe/LAMachpelahאֲשֶׁר־לוֹa/SHER-lowhich is hisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isבִּקְצֵהbik/TSEat the end ofשָׂדֵהוּsa/DE/huhis fieldבְּכֶסֶףbe/KHE/seffor silverמָלֵאma/LEfullיִתְּנֶנָּהyit/te/NEN/nalet him give itלִּיlito meבְּתוֹכְכֶםbe/tokh/KHEMamong youלַאֲחֻזַּת־קָבֶר׃la/a/chuz/ZAT-KA/verfor a possession of a burying place

   That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.

    וְעֶפְרוֹןve/Ef/RONand Ephronיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVsatבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongבְּנֵי־חֵתbe/NE-chetsons of Hethוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredעֶפְרוֹןEf/RONEphronהַחִתִּיha/Chit/TIthe Hittiteאֶת־אַבְרָהָםet-Av/ra/HAMAbrahamבְּאׇזְנֵיbe/oz/NEin the ears ofבְנֵי־חֵתve/NE-chetthe sons of Hethלְכֹלle/KHOLeven of allבָּאֵיba/Ethat went in atשַׁעַר־עִירוֹSHA/ar-i/ROthe gate of his cityלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

    לֹא־אֲדֹנִיlo-a/do/NInay my lordשְׁמָעֵנִיshe/ma/E/nihear meהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEthe fieldנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI giveלָךְlakhto youוְהַמְּעָרָהve/ham/me/a/RAand the caveאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹa/SHER-bothat is in itלְךָle/KHAto youנְתַתִּיהָne/tat/TI/haI give itלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEin the presence ofבְנֵי־עַמִּיve/NE-am/MIthe sons of my peopleנְתַתִּיהָne/tat/TI/haI give itלָּךְlakhto youקְבֹרke/VORburyמֵתֶךָ׃me/TE/khayour dead

    Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.

    וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed himselfאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeעַםamthe people ofהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsthe land

    And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.

13. 13

    וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֶל־עֶפְרוֹןel-Ef/RONto Ephronבְּאׇזְנֵיbe/oz/NEin the ears ofעַם־הָאָרֶץam-ha/A/retsthe people of the landלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאַךְakhbutאִם־אַתָּהim-at/TAif youלוּluwould thatשְׁמָעֵנִיshe/ma/E/nihear meנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI will giveכֶּסֶףKE/sefthe silver ofהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEthe fieldקַחkachtakeמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/nifrom meוְאֶקְבְּרָהve/ek/be/RAand I will buryאֶת־מֵתִיet-me/TImy deadשָׁמָּה׃SHAM/mathere

    And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredעֶפְרוֹןEf/RONEphronאֶת־אַבְרָהָםet-Av/ra/HAMAbrahamלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלוֹ׃loto him

    And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,

15. 15

    אֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordשְׁמָעֵנִיshe/ma/E/nihearken to meאֶרֶץE/retsa land ofאַרְבַּעar/BAfourמֵאֹתme/OThundredשֶׁקֶל־כֶּסֶףSHE/kel-KE/sefshekels of silverבֵּינִיbe/NIbetween meוּבֵינְךָu/ve/ne/KHAand between youמַה־הִואma-hivwhat is thatוְאֶת־מֵתְךָve/ET-met/KHAand your deadקְבֹר׃ke/VORbury

    My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

16. 16

    וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand hearkenedאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamאֶל־עֶפְרוֹןel-Ef/RONto Ephronוַיִּשְׁקֹלvay/yish/KOLand he weighed outאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamלְעֶפְרֹןle/Ef/RONfor Ephronאֶת־הַכֶּסֶףet-hak/KE/sefthe silverאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבֶּרdib/BERhe had namedבְּאׇזְנֵיbe/oz/NEin the ears ofבְנֵי־חֵתve/NE-chetthe sons of Hethאַרְבַּעar/BAfourמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשֶׁקֶלSHE/kelshekels ofכֶּסֶףKE/sefsilverעֹבֵרo/VERcurrentלַסֹּחֵר׃las/so/CHERwith the merchant

    And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

17. 17

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand was made sureשְׂדֵהse/DEthe field ofעֶפְרוֹןEf/RONEphronאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבַּמַּכְפֵּלָהbam/Makh/pe/LAin Machpelahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeמַמְרֵאMam/REMamreהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEthe fieldוְהַמְּעָרָהve/ham/me/a/RAand the caveאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹa/SHER-bothat is in itוְכׇל־הָעֵץve/KHOL-ha/ETSand all the treesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבְּכׇל־גְּבֻלוֹbe/KHOL-ge/vu/LOin all its bordersסָבִיב׃sa/VIVround about

    And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure

18. 18

    לְאַבְרָהָםle/Av/ra/HAMto Abrahamלְמִקְנָהle/mik/NAfor a possessionלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEin the presence ofבְנֵי־חֵתve/NE-chetthe sons of Hethבְּכֹלbe/KHOLin allבָּאֵיba/Ethat went in atשַׁעַר־עִירוֹ׃SHA/ar-i/ROthe gate of his city

    Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

19. 19

    וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןve/a/cha/RE-khenand after thisקָבַרka/VARhe buriedאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMAbrahamאֶת־שָׂרָהet-Sa/RASarahאִשְׁתּוֹish/TOhis wifeאֶל־מְעָרַתel-me/a/RATin the cave ofשְׂדֵהse/DEthe field ofהַמַּכְפֵּלָהHam/makh/pe/LAMachpelahעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEbeforeמַמְרֵאMam/REMamreהִואhivthe same isחֶבְרוֹןChev/RONHebronבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofכְּנָעַן׃Ke/NA/anCanaan

    And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.

20. 20

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand were made sureהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEthe fieldוְהַמְּעָרָהve/ham/me/a/RAand the caveאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹa/SHER-bothat is in itלְאַבְרָהָםle/Av/ra/HAMto Abrahamלַאֲחֻזַּת־קָבֶרla/a/chuz/ZAT-KA/verfor a possession of a burying placeמֵאֵתme/ETbyבְּנֵי־חֵת׃be/NE-chetthe sons of Heth

    And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
