Genesis 16 בְּרֵאשִׁית פרק ט״ז

   וְשָׂרַיve/Sa/RAYand SaraiאֵשֶׁתE/shetthe wife ofאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramלֹאlonotיָלְדָהya/le/DAshe boreלוֹloto himוְלָהּve/LAand to herשִׁפְחָהshif/CHAa handmaidמִצְרִיתMits/RITan Egyptianוּשְׁמָהּu/she/MAand her nameהָגָר׃Ha/GARHagar

   Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

   וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidשָׂרַיSa/RAYSaraiאֶל־אַבְרָםel-Av/RAMto Abramהִנֵּה־נָאhin/NE-nabehold nowעֲצָרַנִיa/tsa/RA/nihas restrained meיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמִלֶּדֶתmil/LE/detfrom bearingבֹּא־נָאbo-nago in I prayאֶל־שִׁפְחָתִיel-shif/cha/TIto my handmaidאוּלַיu/LAYit may beאִבָּנֶהib/ba/NEI will be built upמִמֶּנָּהmim/MEN/naby herוַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand hearkenedאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramלְקוֹלle/KOLto the voice ofשָׂרָי׃Sa/RAYSarai

   And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

   And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

   וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he went inאֶל־הָגָרel-Ha/GARto Hagarוַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedוַתֵּרֶאvat/TE/reand sawכִּיkithatהָרָתָהha/RA/tashe had conceivedוַתֵּקַלvat/te/KALand was despisedגְּבִרְתָּהּge/vir/TAher mistressבְּעֵינֶיהָ׃be/e/NE/hain her eyes

   And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

   וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidשָׂרַיSa/RAYSaraiאֶל־אַבְרָםel-Av/RAMto Abramחֲמָסִיcha/ma/SImy wrongעָלֶיךָa/LE/khabe upon youאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tihave givenשִׁפְחָתִיshif/cha/TImy handmaidבְּחֵיקֶךָbe/che/KE/khainto your bosomוַתֵּרֶאvat/TE/reand sawכִּיkithatהָרָתָהha/RA/tashe had conceivedוָאֵקַלva/e/KALand I was despisedבְּעֵינֶיהָbe/e/NE/hain her eyesיִשְׁפֹּטyish/POTjudgeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבֵּינִיbe/NIbetween meוּבֵינֶיׄךָ׃u/ve/NE/khaand you

   And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramאֶל־שָׂרַיel-Sa/RAYto Saraiהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdשִׁפְחָתֵךְshif/cha/TEKHyour handmaidבְּיָדֵךְbe/ya/DEKHin your handעֲשִׂי־לָהּa/SI-lado to herהַטּוֹבhat/TOVthe goodבְּעֵינָיִךְbe/e/NA/yikhin your eyesוַתְּעַנֶּהָvat/te/an/NE/haand dealt hardly with herשָׂרַיSa/RAYSaraiוַתִּבְרַחvat/tiv/RACHand she fledמִפָּנֶיהָ׃mip/pa/NE/hafrom her face

   But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

   וַיִּמְצָאָהּvay/yim/tsa/Aand found herמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעַל־עֵיןal-enby a fountain ofהַמַּיִםham/MA/yimwaterבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessעַל־הָעַיִןal-ha/A/yinby the fountainבְּדֶרֶךְbe/DE/rekhin the way toשׁוּר׃ShurShur

   And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

8. 8

   וַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand he saidהָגָרHa/GARHagarשִׁפְחַתshif/CHAThandmaid ofשָׂרַיSa/RAYSaraiאֵי־מִזֶּהe-miz/ZEwhenceבָאתvatcame youוְאָנָהve/A/naand whitherתֵלֵכִיte/LE/khiwill you goוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofשָׂרַיSa/RAYSaraiגְּבִרְתִּיge/vir/TImy mistressאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIבֹּרַחַת׃bo/RA/chatflee

   And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

9. 9

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהּlato herמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשׁוּבִיSHU/vireturnאֶל־גְּבִרְתֵּךְel-ge/vir/TEKHto your mistressוְהִתְעַנִּיve/hit/an/NIand submit yourselfתַּחַתTA/chatunderיָדֶיהָ׃ya/DE/haher hands

   And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

10. 10

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהּlato herמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהַרְבָּהhar/BAmultiplyאַרְבֶּהar/BEI will multiplyאֶת־זַרְעֵךְet-zar/EKHyour seedוְלֹאve/LOthat notיִסָּפֵרyis/sa/FERit shall be numberedמֵרֹב׃me/ROVfor multitude

    And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהּlato herמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנָּךְhin/NAKHbehold youהָרָהha/RAare with childוְיֹלַדְתְּve/yo/LADTand shall bearבֵּןbena sonוְקָרָאתve/ka/RATand shall callשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelכִּי־שָׁמַעki-sha/MAbecause has heardיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־עׇנְיֵךְ׃el-on/YEKHyour affliction

    And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

12. 12

    וְהוּאve/HUand heיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beפֶּרֶאPE/rea wild ass ofאָדָםa/DAMa manיָדוֹya/DOhis handבַכֹּלvak/KOLagainst everyוְיַדve/YADand the hand ofכֹּלkoleveryבּוֹboagainst himוְעַל־פְּנֵיve/AL-pe/NEand upon the face ofכׇל־אֶחָיוkhol-e/CHAYVall his brethrenיִשְׁכֹּן׃yish/KONhe shall dwell

    And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

13. 13

    וַתִּקְרָאvat/tik/RAand she calledשֵׁם־יְהֹוָהshem-Adonaithe name of the LORDהַדֹּבֵרhad/do/VERthat spokeאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herאַתָּהat/TAYouאֵלelare a God ofרֳאִיro/Iseeingכִּיkiforאָמְרָהa/me/RAshe saidהֲגַםha/GAMhave I alsoהֲלֹםha/LOMhereרָאִיתִיra/I/tilookedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterרֹאִי׃RO/iHim that sees me

    And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

14. 14

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeקָרָאka/RAwas calledלַבְּאֵרlab/be/ERthe wellבְּאֵרBe/ERBeer-לַחַיla/CHAYlahai-רֹאִיRO/iroiהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבֵין־קָדֵשׁven-Ka/DESHbetween Kadeshוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenבָּרֶד׃BA/redBered

    Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

15. 15

    וַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreהָגָרHa/GARHagarלְאַבְרָםle/Av/RAMto Abramבֵּןbena sonוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramשֶׁם־בְּנוֹshem-be/NOhis son's nameאֲשֶׁר־יָלְדָהa/SHER-ya/le/DAwhom boreהָגָרHa/GARHagarיִשְׁמָעֵאל׃Yish/ma/ELIshmael

    And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.

16. 16

    וְאַבְרָםve/Av/RAMand Abramבֶּן־שְׁמֹנִיםben-she/mo/NIMa son of eightyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוְשֵׁשׁve/SHESHand sixשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsבְּלֶדֶת־הָגָרbe/LE/det-ha/GARwhen Hagar boreאֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵאלet-Yish/ma/ELIshmaelלְאַבְרָם׃le/Av/RAMto Abram

    And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
