1. 1

   After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYO LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODמַה־תִּתֶּן־לִיma-tit/TEN-liwhat will you give meוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIseeing Iהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHgoעֲרִירִיa/ri/RIchildlessוּבֶן־מֶשֶׁקu/VEN-ME/shekand the steward ofבֵּיתִיbe/TImy houseהוּאhuisדַּמֶּשֶׂקDam/ME/sekDamascusאֱלִיעֶזֶר׃E/li/E/zerEliezer

   And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

3. 3

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramהֵןhenbeholdלִיlito meלֹאlonotנָתַתָּהna/TAT/taYou have givenזָרַעZA/raseedוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdבֶן־בֵּיתִיven-be/TIone born in my houseיוֹרֵשׁyo/RESHis heir ofאֹתִי׃o/TIme

   And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

4. 4

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdדְבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹאlonotיִירָשְׁךָyi/ra/she/KHAshall be your heirזֶהzethisכִּי־אִםki-imbutאֲשֶׁרa/SHERhe thatיֵצֵאye/TSEshall come forthמִמֵּעֶיךָmim/me/E/khaout of your bowelsהוּאhuheיִירָשֶׁךָ׃yi/ra/SHE/khashall be your heir

   And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

   וַיּוֹצֵאvay/yo/TSEand He brought forthאֹתוֹo/TOhimהַחוּצָהha/CHU/tsaabroadוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַבֶּט־נָאhab/BET-nalook nowהַשָּׁמַיְמָהhash/sha/MAY/matoward heavenוּסְפֹרu/se/FORand tellהַכּוֹכָבִיםhak/ko/kha/VIMthe starsאִם־תּוּכַלim-tu/KHALif you are ableלִסְפֹּרlis/PORto numberאֹתָםo/TAMthemוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himכֹּהkothusיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beזַרְעֶךָ׃zar/E/khayour seed

   And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

6. 6

   וְהֶאֱמִןve/he/e/MINand he believedבַּיהֹוָהba-Adonaiin the LORDוַיַּחְשְׁבֶהָvay/yach/she/VE/haand He counted itלּוֹloto himצְדָקָה׃tse/da/KAfor righteousness

   And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

7. 7

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֲנִיa/NIIיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהוֹצֵאתִיךָho/tse/TI/khabrought you outמֵאוּרme/URfrom Ur ofכַּשְׂדִּיםkaS/DIMthe ChaldeesלָתֶתLA/tetto giveלְךָle/KHAyouאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisלְרִשְׁתָּהּ׃le/rish/TAto possess it

   And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

8. 8

   וַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYO LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODבַּמָּהbam/MAby whatאֵדַעe/DAshall I knowכִּיkithatאִירָשֶׁנָּה׃i/ra/SHEN/naI shall inherit it

   And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

9. 9

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himקְחָהke/CHAtakeלִיlifor meעֶגְלָהeg/LAa heiferמְשֻׁלֶּשֶׁתme/shul/LE/shetof three yearsוְעֵזve/EZand a goatמְשֻׁלֶּשֶׁתme/shul/LE/shetof three yearsוְאַיִלve/A/yiland a ramמְשֻׁלָּשׁme/shul/LASHof three yearsוְתֹרve/TORand a turtledoveוְגוֹזָל׃ve/go/ZALand a young pigeon

   And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

10. 10

    וַיִּקַּח־לוֹvay/yik/KACH-loand took to himאֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּהet-kol-EL/leall theseוַיְבַתֵּרvay/vat/TERand dividedאֹתָםo/TAMthemבַּתָּוֶךְbat/TA/vekhin the midstוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand laidאִישׁ־בִּתְרוֹish-bit/ROeach pieceלִקְרַאתlik/RATagainstרֵעֵהוּre/E/huanotherוְאֶת־הַצִּפֹּרve/ET-hats/tsip/PORand the birdלֹאlonotבָתָר׃va/TARdivided he

    And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

11. 11

    וַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand came downהָעַיִטha/A/yitthe birds of preyעַל־הַפְּגָרִיםal-hap/pe/ga/RIMupon the carcassesוַיַּשֵּׁבvay/yash/SHEVand drove awayאֹתָםo/TAMthemאַבְרָם׃Av/RAMAbram

    And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

12. 12

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passהַשֶּׁמֶשׁhash/SHE/meshthe sunלָבוֹאla/VOgoing downוְתַרְדֵּמָהve/tar/de/MAand a deep sleepנָפְלָהna/fe/LAfellעַל־אַבְרָםal-Av/RAMupon Abramוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֵימָהe/MAa horror ofחֲשֵׁכָהcha/she/KHAdarknessגְדֹלָהge/do/LAgreatנֹפֶלֶתno/FE/letfellעָלָיו׃a/LAYVupon him

    And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלְאַבְרָםLe/av/RAMAbramיָדֹעַya/DO/aknowתֵּדַעte/DAyou shall knowכִּי־גֵרki-gerthat a sojournerיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beזַרְעֲךָzar/a/KHAyour seedבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin a landלֹאlonotלָהֶםla/HEMtheirsוַעֲבָדוּםva/a/va/DUMand shall serve themוְעִנּוּve/in/NUand they shall afflictאֹתָםo/TAMthemאַרְבַּעar/BAfourמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשָׁנָה׃sha/NAyears

    And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

14. 14

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־הַגּוֹיet-hag/GOYthe nationאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomיַעֲבֹדוּya/a/VO/duthey shall serveדָּןdanwill judgeאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIוְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןve/a/cha/RE-khenand afterwardיֵצְאוּyets/Ushall they come outבִּרְכֻשׁbir/KHUSHwith substanceגָּדוֹל׃ga/DOLgreat

    And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

15. 15

    וְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youתָּבוֹאta/VOshall comeאֶל־אֲבֹתֶיךָel-a/vo/TE/khato your fathersבְּשָׁלוֹםbe/sha/LOMin peaceתִּקָּבֵרtik/ka/VERyou shall be buriedבְּשֵׂיבָהbe/se/VAin old ageטוֹבָה׃to/VAgood

    And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

16. 16

    וְדוֹרve/DORand in the generationרְבִיעִיre/vi/Ifourthיָשׁוּבוּya/SHU/vuthey shall returnהֵנָּהHEN/nahitherכִּיkiforלֹא־שָׁלֵםlo-sha/LEMis not yet fullעֲוֺןa/VONthe iniquity ofהָאֱמֹרִיha/E/mo/RIthe Amoriteעַד־הֵנָּה׃ad-HEN/nahitherto

    But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passהַשֶּׁמֶשׁhash/SHE/meshthe sunבָּאָהba/Awent downוַעֲלָטָהva/a/la/TAand thick darknessהָיָהha/YAwasוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdתַנּוּרtan/NURa furnace ofעָשָׁןa/SHANsmokeוְלַפִּידve/lap/PIDand a torch ofאֵשׁeshfireאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעָבַרa/VARpassedבֵּיןbenbetweenהַגְּזָרִיםhag/ge/za/RIMpiecesהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.

18. 18

    בַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatכָּרַתka/RATmadeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־אַבְרָםet-Av/RAMwith Abramבְּרִיתbe/RITa covenantלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלְזַרְעֲךָle/zar/a/KHAto your seedנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI have givenאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisמִנְּהַרmin/ne/HARfrom the river ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptעַד־הַנָּהָרad-han/na/HARunto the riverהַגָּדֹלhag/ga/DOLgreatנְהַר־פְּרָת׃ne/HAR-Pe/RATthe river Euphrates

    In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

19. 19

    אֶת־הַקֵּינִיet-Hak/ke/NIthe Keniteוְאֶת־הַקְּנִזִּיve/ET-hak/ke/niz/ZIand the Kenizziteוְאֵתve/ETandהַקַּדְמֹנִי׃hak/Kad/mo/NIthe Kadmonite

    The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

20. 20

    וְאֶת־הַחִתִּיve/ET-ha/chit/TIand the Hittiteוְאֶת־הַפְּרִזִּיve/ET-hap/pe/riz/ZIand the Perizziteוְאֶת־הָרְפָאִים׃ve/ET-ha/re/fa/IMand the Rephaim

    And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,

21. 21

    וְאֶת־הָאֱמֹרִיve/ET-ha/e/mo/RIand the Amoriteוְאֶת־הַכְּנַעֲנִיve/ET-hak/ke/na/a/NIand the Canaaniteוְאֶת־הַגִּרְגָּשִׁיve/ET-hag/gir/ga/SHIand the Girgashiteוְאֶת־הַיְבוּסִי׃ve/ET-hay/vu/SIand the Jebusite

    And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
