   Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

   כִּי־נָשְׂאוּki-na/se/Ufor they have takenמִבְּנֹתֵיהֶםmib/be/no/te/HEMof their daughtersלָהֶםla/HEMfor themselvesוְלִבְנֵיהֶםve/liv/ne/HEMand for their sonsוְהִתְעָרְבוּve/hit/a/re/VUso that have mixedזֶרַעZE/rathe seedהַקֹּדֶשׁhak/KO/deshholyבְּעַמֵּיbe/am/MEwith the peoples ofהָאֲרָצוֹתha/a/ra/TSOTthe landsוְיַדve/YADand the hand ofהַשָּׂרִיםhas/sa/RIMthe princesוְהַסְּגָנִיםve/has/se/ga/NIMand the rulersהָיְתָהha/ye/TAhas beenבַּמַּעַלbam/MA/alin the trespassהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisרִאשׁוֹנָה׃ri/sho/NAfirst

   For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.

   וּכְשׇׁמְעִיu/khe/shom/Iand when I heardאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisקָרַעְתִּיka/RA/tiI toreאֶת־בִּגְדִיet-big/DImy garmentוּמְעִילִיu/me/i/LIand my robeוָאֶמְרְטָהva/em/re/TAand pluckedמִשְּׂעַרmis/se/ARthe hair ofרֹאשִׁיro/SHImy headוּזְקָנִיu/ze/ka/NIand my beardוָאֵשְׁבָהva/esh/VAand I sat downמְשׁוֹמֵם׃me/sho/MEMappalled

   And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.

   וְאֵלַיve/e/LAYand to meיֵאָסְפוּye/a/se/FUassembledכֹּלkoleveryone whoחָרֵדcha/REDtrembledבְּדִבְרֵיbe/div/REat the words ofאֱלֹהֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלe/lo/HE-Yis/ra/ELthe God of Israelעַלalbecause ofמַעַלMA/althe trespass ofהַגּוֹלָהhag/go/LAthe exilesוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVsatמְשׁוֹמֵםme/sho/MEMappalledעַדaduntilלְמִנְחַתle/min/CHATthe offering ofהָעָרֶב׃ha/A/revthe evening

   Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.

   וּבְמִנְחַתu/ve/min/CHATand at the offering ofהָעֶרֶבha/E/revthe eveningקַמְתִּיKAM/tiI aroseמִתַּעֲנִיתִיmit/ta/a/ni/TIfrom my fastingוּבְקׇרְעִיu/ve/kor/Ihaving tornבִגְדִיvig/DImy garmentוּמְעִילִיu/me/i/LIand my robeוָאֶכְרְעָהva/ekh/re/Aand I fellעַל־בִּרְכַּיal-bir/KAYon my kneesוָאֶפְרְשָׂהva/ef/re/SAand I spread outכַפַּיkhap/PAYmy handsאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהָי׃e/lo/HAYmy God

   And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God,

   וָאֹמְרָהva/om/RAand I saidאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYO my GodבֹּשְׁתִּיBOSH/tiI am ashamedוְנִכְלַמְתִּיve/nikh/LAM/tiand blushלְהָרִיםle/ha/RIMto liftאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYmy Godפָּנַיpa/NAYmy faceאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato Youכִּיkiforעֲוֺנֹתֵינוּa/vo/no/TE/nuour iniquitiesרָבוּra/VUhave risenלְמַעְלָהle/MA/lahigherרֹּאשׁroshthan our headוְאַשְׁמָתֵנוּve/ash/ma/TE/nuand our guiltגָדְלָהga/de/LAhas grownעַדadup toלַשָּׁמָיִם׃lash/sha/MA/yimthe heavens

   And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.

   מִימֵיMI/mefrom the days ofאֲבֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweבְּאַשְׁמָהbe/ash/MAin guiltגְדֹלָהge/do/LAgreatעַדaduntilהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוּבַעֲוֺנֹתֵינוּu/va/a/vo/no/TE/nuand for our iniquitiesנִתַּנּוּnit/TAN/nuhave been deliveredאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweמְלָכֵינוּme/la/KHE/nuour kingsכֹהֲנֵינוּkho/ha/NE/nuour priestsבְּיַדbe/YADin the hand ofמַלְכֵיmal/KHEthe kings ofהָאֲרָצוֹתha/a/ra/TSOTthe landsבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revwith the swordבַּשְּׁבִיbash/she/VIto captivityוּבַבִּזָּהu/vab/biz/ZAand to plunderוּבְבֹשֶׁתu/ve/VO/shetand to shame ofפָּנִיםpa/NIMfaceכְּהַיּוֹםke/hay/YOMas the dayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowכִּמְעַט־רֶגַעkim/AT-RE/gafor a little momentהָיְתָהha/ye/TAhas beenתְחִנָּהte/chin/NAgraceמֵאֵתme/ETfromיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godלְהַשְׁאִירle/hash/IRto leaveלָנוּLA/nuusפְּלֵיטָהpe/le/TAa remnantוְלָתֶת־לָנוּve/LA/tet-LA/nuand to give usיָתֵדya/TEDa pegבִּמְקוֹםbim/KOMat the place ofקׇדְשׁוֹkod/SHOHis holinessלְהָאִירle/ha/IRto enlightenעֵינֵינוּe/NE/nuour eyesאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godוּלְתִתֵּנוּu/le/tit/TE/nuand to give usמִחְיָהmich/YArevivingמְעַטme/ATa littleבְּעַבְדֻתֵנוּ׃be/av/du/TE/nuin our servitude

   And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

   כִּי־עֲבָדִיםki-a/va/DIMfor slavesאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuare weוּבְעַבְדֻתֵנוּu/ve/av/DU/te/nuand in our servitudeלֹאlonotעֲזָבָנוּa/za/VA/nuhas forsaken usאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godוַיַּט־עָלֵינוּvay/YAT-a/LE/nubut has extended to usחֶסֶדCHE/sedkindnessלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeמַלְכֵיmal/KHEthe kings ofפָרַסFa/RASPersiaלָתֶת־לָנוּLA/tet-LA/nuto give usמִחְיָהmich/YArevivingלְרוֹמֵםle/ro/MEMto set upאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godוּלְהַעֲמִידu/le/ha/a/MIDand to repairאֶת־חׇרְבֹתָיוet-chor/vo/TAYVits ruinsוְלָתֶת־לָנוּve/LA/tet-LA/nuand to give usגָדֵרga/DERa wallבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahוּבִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃u/Vi/ru/sha/LA/yimand in Jerusalem

   For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowמַה־נֹּאמַרma-NO/marwhat shall we sayאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuO our Godאַחֲרֵי־זֹאתa/cha/RE-zotafter thisכִּיkiforעָזַבְנוּa/ZAV/nuwe have forsakenמִצְוֺתֶיךָ׃mits/vo/TE/khaYour commandments

    And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

11. 11

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצִוִּיתָtsiv/VI/taYou commandedבְּיַדbe/YADby the hand ofעֲבָדֶיךָa/va/DE/khaYour servantsהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאַתֶּםat/TEMyouבָּאִיםba/IMare goingלְרִשְׁתָּהּle/rish/TAto possess itאֶרֶץE/retsa land ofנִדָּהnid/DAimpurityהִיאhiis itבְּנִדַּתbe/nid/DATthrough the impurity ofעַמֵּיam/MEthe peoples ofהָאֲרָצוֹתha/a/ra/TSOTthe landsבְּתוֹעֲבֹתֵיהֶםbe/to/a/vo/te/HEMwith their abominationsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichמִלְאוּהָmil/U/hahave filled itמִפֶּהmip/PEfrom mouthאֶל־פֶּהel-peto mouthבְּטֻמְאָתָם׃be/tum/a/TAMwith their uncleanness

    Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.

12. 12

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבְּנוֹתֵיכֶםbe/no/te/KHEMyour daughtersאַל־תִּתְּנוּal-tit/te/NUdo not giveלִבְנֵיהֶםliv/ne/HEMto their sonsוּבְנֹתֵיהֶםu/ve/no/te/HEMand their daughtersאַל־תִּשְׂאוּal-tis/Udo not takeלִבְנֵיכֶםliv/ne/KHEMfor your sonsוְלֹא־תִדְרְשׁוּve/LO-tid/re/SHUand do not seekשְׁלֹמָםshe/lo/MAMtheir peaceוְטוֹבָתָםve/to/va/TAMand their goodעַד־עוֹלָםad-o/LAMforeverלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatתֶּחֶזְקוּte/chez/KUyou may be strongוַאֲכַלְתֶּםva/a/khal/TEMand eatאֶת־טוּבet-tuvthe good ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landוְהוֹרַשְׁתֶּםve/ho/rash/TEMand leave it for an inheritanceלִבְנֵיכֶםliv/ne/KHEMto your childrenעַד־עוֹלָם׃ad-o/LAMforever

    Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.

13. 13

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterכׇּל־הַבָּאkol-hab/BAall that has comeעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usבְּמַעֲשֵׂינוּbe/ma/a/SE/nufor our deedsהָרָעִיםha/ra/IMevilוּבְאַשְׁמָתֵנוּu/ve/ash/ma/TE/nuand for our guiltהַגְּדֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAgreatכִּיkisinceאַתָּהat/TAYouאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godחָשַׂכְתָּcha/SAKH/tahave held backלְמַטָּהle/MAT/tabelowמֵעֲוֺנֵנוּme/a/vo/NE/nuthan our iniquitiesוְנָתַתָּהve/na/tat/TAand have givenלָּנוּLA/nuto usפְּלֵיטָהpe/le/TAa remnantכָּזֹאת׃ka/ZOTsuch as this

    And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;

14. 14

    הֲנָשׁוּבha/na/SHUVshall we againלְהָפֵרle/ha/FERbreakמִצְוֺתֶיךָmits/vo/TE/khaYour commandmentsוּלְהִתְחַתֵּןu/le/hit/chat/TENand to intermarryבְּעַמֵּיbe/am/MEwith the peoples ofהַתֹּעֵבוֹתhat/to/e/VOTthe abominationsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseהֲלוֹאha/LOwould You notתֶאֱנַף־בָּנוּte/e/NAF-BA/nube angry with usעַד־כַּלֵּהad-kal/LEuntil consumedלְאֵיןle/ENso that there is noשְׁאֵרִיתshe/e/RITremnantוּפְלֵיטָה׃u/fe/le/TAor escaping

    Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?

15. 15

    יְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousאַתָּהat/TAYou areכִּי־נִשְׁאַרְנוּki-nish/AR/nufor we remainפְלֵיטָהfe/le/TAa remnantכְּהַיּוֹםke/hay/YOMas the dayהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהִנְנוּhin/NUbehold we areלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore Youבְּאַשְׁמָתֵינוּbe/ash/ma/TE/nuin our guiltכִּיkiforאֵיןennone canלַעֲמוֹדla/a/MODstandלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore Youעַל־זֹאת׃al-zotbecause of this

    O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
