וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meבַּשָּׁנָהin the yearהַתְּשִׁיעִיתthe ninthבַּחֹדֶשׁin the monthהָעֲשִׂירִיthe tenthבֶּעָשׂוֹרin the tenthלַחֹדֶשׁof the monthלֵאמֹר׃saying
Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

בֶּן־אָדָםson of man(כתוב)[כְּתׇב־]לְךָwrite for yourselfאֶת־שֵׁםname ofהַיּוֹםthe dayאֶת־עֶצֶםthe veryהַיּוֹםthe dayהַזֶּהthisסָמַךְlaidמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלking of Babylonאֶל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםto Jerusalemבְּעֶצֶםon the veryהַיּוֹםthe dayהַזֶּה׃this
Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.

וּמְשֹׁלand speak a parableאֶל־בֵּית־הַמֶּרִיto the house of rebellionמָשָׁלa parableוְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֲלֵיהֶםto themכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODשְׁפֹתput onהַסִּירthe potשְׁפֹתput onוְגַם־יְצֹקand also pourבּוֹin itמָיִם׃water
And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:

אֱסֹףgatherנְתָחֶיהָits pieces of meatאֵלֶיהָinto itכׇּל־נֵתַחevery piece of meatטוֹבgoodיָרֵךְa thighוְכָתֵףand shoulderמִבְחַרthe choicest ofעֲצָמִיםthe bonesמַלֵּא׃fill
Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.

מִבְחַרthe choicest ofהַצֹּאןthe flockלָקוֹחַtakeוְגַםand alsoדּוּרpile upהָעֲצָמִיםthe bonesתַּחְתֶּיהָin its placeרַתַּחmake boilרְתָחֶיהָits boilingגַּם־בָּשְׁלוּalso are ripenedעֲצָמֶיהָits bonesבְּתוֹכָהּ׃in its midst
Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.

לָכֵןthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODאוֹיwoe beעִירthe city ofהַדָּמִיםof bloodסִירthe pot ofאֲשֶׁרwhichחֶלְאָתָהֿits filthבָהּin itוְחֶלְאָתָהּand its filthלֹאnotיָצְאָהwent forthמִמֶּנָּהfrom itלִנְתָחֶיהָinto its piecesלִנְתָחֶיהָinto its piecesהוֹצִיאָהּbring it outלֹא־נָפַלnot fellעָלֶיהָupon itגּוֹרָל׃a lot
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it.

כִּיforדָמָהּits bloodבְּתוֹכָהּin its midstהָיָהwasעַל־צְחִיחַupon bareness ofסֶלַעthe rock ofשָׂמָתְהוּshe made itלֹאnotשְׁפָכַתְהוּit poured out itעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landלְכַסּוֹתto coverעָלָיוupon itעָפָר׃dust
For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;

לְהַעֲלוֹתto cause to come upחֵמָהwrathלִנְקֹםto vengeanceנָקָםvengeanceנָתַתִּיI gaveאֶת־דָּמָהּits bloodעַל־צְחִיחַupon bareness ofסָלַעrockלְבִלְתִּיto notהִכָּסוֹת׃to be covered
That it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.

לָכֵןthereforeכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODאוֹיwoe beעִירthe city ofהַדָּמִיםof bloodגַּם־אֲנִיalso IאַגְדִּילI will make greatהַמְּדוּרָה׃the pile
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great.

הַרְבֵּהheap onהָעֵצִיםthe treesהַדְלֵקkindleהָאֵשׁthe fireהָתֵםboil awayהַבָּשָׂרthe fleshוְהַרְקַחand mixהַמֶּרְקָחָהthe seasoningוְהָעֲצָמוֹתand the bonesיֵחָרוּ׃be burned
Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned.

וְהַעֲמִידֶהָand set itעַל־גֶּחָלֶיהָupon its burning coalsרֵקָהemptyלְמַעַןin order thatתֵּחַםit may grow warmוְחָרָהand it will burnנְחֻשְׁתָּהּits bronzeוְנִתְּכָהand it will be meltedבְתוֹכָהּin the midst of itטֻמְאָתָהּits impurityתִּתֻּםit may be consumedחֶלְאָתָהּ׃its filth
Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.

תְּאֻנִיםtoilהֶלְאָתit has made wearyוְלֹא־תֵצֵאand not shall proceedמִמֶּנָּהfrom itרַבַּתher greatחֶלְאָתָהּits filthבְּאֵשׁwith fireחֶלְאָתָהּ׃its filth
She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire.

בְּטֻמְאָתֵךְin your uncleannessזִמָּהlewdיַעַןbecauseטִהַרְתִּיךְI cleansed youוְלֹאand notטָהַרְתְּyou are cleanמִטֻּמְאָתֵךְfrom your uncleannessלֹאnotתִטְהֲרִי־עוֹדyou are clean any moreעַד־הֲנִיחִיuntil give rest to Iאֶת־חֲמָתִיMy-furyבָּךְ׃in you
In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

אֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenבָּאָהit shall come to passוְעָשִׂיתִיand I will do itלֹא־אֶפְרַעnot I will refrainוְלֹא־אָחוּסand not I will spareוְלֹאand notאֶנָּחֵםI will ease myselfכִּדְרָכַיִךְaccording to your waysוְכַעֲלִילוֹתַיִךְand according to your doingsשְׁפָטוּךְthey have judged youנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD
I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord GOD.

וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying
Also the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

בֶּן־אָדָםson of manהִנְנִיbehold Iלֹקֵחַtakingמִמְּךָfrom youאֶת־מַחְמַדthe delight ofעֵינֶיךָyour eyesבְּמַגֵּפָהwith a blowוְלֹאand notתִסְפֹּדyou shall lamentוְלֹאand notתִבְכֶּהyou shall weepוְלוֹאand notתָבוֹאshall run downדִּמְעָתֶךָ׃your tears
Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

הֵאָנֵקsighדֹּםbe silentמֵתִיםthe deadאֵבֶלa great mourningלֹא־תַעֲשֶׂהnot makeפְּאֵרְךָyour turbanחֲבוֹשׁbindעָלֶיךָupon youוּנְעָלֶיךָand your sandalsתָּשִׂיםyou shall setבְּרַגְלֶיךָat your feetוְלֹאand notתַעְטֶהyou shall coverעַל־שָׂפָםupon a moustacheוְלֶחֶםand breadאֲנָשִׁיםmenלֹאnotתֹאכֵל׃you shall eat
Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.

וָאֲדַבֵּרand I spokeאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleבַּבֹּקֶרin the morningוַתָּמׇתand diedאִשְׁתִּיmy wifeבָּעָרֶבin the eveningוָאַעַשׂand I didבַּבֹּקֶרin the morningכַּאֲשֶׁרasצֻוֵּיתִי׃I had been commanded
So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֵלַיto meהָעָםthe peopleהֲלֹא־תַגִּידwill you not tellלָנוּto usמָה־אֵלֶּהwhat theseלָּנוּto usכִּיthatאַתָּהyouעֹשֶׂה׃do
And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?

וָאֹמַרand I saidאֲלֵיהֶםto themדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDהָיָהwasאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying
Then I answered them, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
- 21
אֱמֹרsayלְבֵיתto the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODהִנְנִיbehold Iמְחַלֵּלprofaningאֶת־מִקְדָּשִׁיmy sanctuaryגְּאוֹןthe pride ofעֻזְּכֶםyour strengthמַחְמַדthe delight ofעֵינֵיכֶםyour eyesוּמַחְמַלand the love ofנַפְשְׁכֶםyour soulוּבְנֵיכֶםand your sonsוּבְנוֹתֵיכֶםand your daughtersאֲשֶׁרwhichעֲזַבְתֶּםyou have forsakenבַּחֶרֶבwith the swordיִפֹּלוּ׃they shall fall
Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.

וַעֲשִׂיתֶםand you shall doכַּאֲשֶׁרasעָשִׂיתִיI have doneעַל־שָׂפָםupon a moustacheלֹאnotתַעְטוּyou shall coverוְלֶחֶםand breadאֲנָשִׁיםmenלֹאnotתֹאכֵלוּ׃you shall eat
And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.

וּפְאֵרֵכֶםand your turbansעַל־רָאשֵׁיכֶםupon your own headsוְנַעֲלֵיכֶםand your sandalsבְּרַגְלֵיכֶםwith your feetלֹאnotתִסְפְּדוּyou shall lamentוְלֹאand notתִבְכּוּyou shall weepוּנְמַקֹּתֶםand you will waste awayבַּעֲוֺנֹתֵיכֶםin your iniquitiesוּנְהַמְתֶּםand you will groanאִישׁa manאֶל־אָחִיו׃upon his brother
And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another.

וְהָיָהand beיְחֶזְקֵאלEzekielלָכֶםto youלְמוֹפֵתa signכְּכֹלaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהwhich didתַּעֲשׂוּyou doבְּבוֹאָהּwhen it comesוִידַעְתֶּםand you shall knowכִּיforאֲנִיIאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD
Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

וְאַתָּהand youבֶן־אָדָםson of manהֲלוֹאis it notבְּיוֹםin the day ofקַחְתִּיtake Iמֵהֶםof themאֶת־מָעוּזָּםtheir strengthמְשׂוֹשׂthe joy ofתִּפְאַרְתָּםtheir boastingאֶת־מַחְמַדthe desire ofעֵינֵיהֶםtheir eyesוְאֶת־מַשָּׂאand the burden ofנַפְשָׁםtheir soulבְּנֵיהֶםtheir sonsוּבְנוֹתֵיהֶם׃and their daughters
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,

בַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatיָבוֹאshall comeהַפָּלִיטthe fugitiveאֵלֶיךָto youלְהַשְׁמָעוּתto cause to hearאׇזְנָיִם׃ears
That he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?

בַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatיִפָּתַחit will be openedפִּיךָyour mouthאֶת־הַפָּלִיטthe fugitiveוּתְדַבֵּרand you shall speakוְלֹאand notתֵאָלֵםyou will be dumbעוֹדany moreוְהָיִיתָand you shall beלָהֶםto themלְמוֹפֵתa signוְיָדְעוּand they shall knowכִּי־אֲנִיthat I amיְהֹוָה׃the LORD
In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
