   וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying

   Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

   בֶּן־אָדָםson of manשִׂיםputפָּנֶיךָyour faceדֶּרֶךְthe way ofתֵּימָנָהsouthwardוְהַטֵּףand preachאֶל־דָּרוֹםto southוְהִנָּבֵאand prophesyאֶל־יַעַרagainst the forest ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldנֶגֶב׃south

   Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

3. 3

   וְאָמַרְתָּand sayלְיַעַרto the forest ofהַנֶּגֶבthe southשְׁמַעhearkenדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODהִנְנִיbehold Iמַצִּית־בְּךָam about to kindle in Youאֵשׁfireוְאׇכְלָהand shall devourבְךָin youכׇל־עֵץ־לַחevery green treeוְכׇל־עֵץand every treeיָבֵשׁit has withered awayלֹא־תִכְבֶּהnot be quenchedלַהֶבֶתthe flame ofשַׁלְהֶבֶתflameוְנִצְרְבוּ־בָהּand they will be scorched in herכׇּל־פָּנִיםall facesמִנֶּגֶבfrom southצָפוֹנָה׃northward

   And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

4. 4

   וְרָאוּand shall seeכׇּל־בָּשָׂרall the fleshכִּיthatאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDבִּעַרְתִּיהָI have kindled itלֹאnotתִּכְבֶּה׃it is extinguished

   And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

5. 5

   וָאֹמַרand I saidאֲהָהּalas!אֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODהֵמָּהtheyאֹמְרִיםsayלִיto meהֲלֹאis it notמְמַשֵּׁלmaking a parableמְשָׁלִיםproverbsהוּא׃he

   Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?

6. 6

   וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying

   And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

7. 7

   בֶּן־אָדָםson of manשִׂיםputפָּנֶיךָyour faceאֶל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםto Jerusalemוְהַטֵּףand preachאֶל־מִקְדָּשִׁיםtowards the holy placesוְהִנָּבֵאand prophesyאֶל־אַדְמַתto the land ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

   Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,

8. 8

   וְאָמַרְתָּand sayלְאַדְמַתto the land ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDהִנְנִיbehold Iאֵלַיִךְinto youוְהוֹצֵאתִיand I will drawחַרְבִּיmy swordמִתַּעְרָהּfrom its sheathוְהִכְרַתִּיand cut offמִמֵּךְfrom youצַדִּיקrighteousוְרָשָׁע׃and the wicked

   And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.

9. 9

   יַעַןbecauseאֲשֶׁר־הִכְרַתִּיwhich I have cut offמִמֵּךְfrom youצַדִּיקrighteousוְרָשָׁעand the wickedלָכֵןthereforeתֵּצֵאshall go forthחַרְבִּיmy swordמִתַּעְרָהּfrom its sheathאֶל־כׇּל־בָּשָׂרto all the fleshמִנֶּגֶבfrom southצָפוֹן׃to the north

   Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:

10. 10

    וְיָדְעוּand they shall knowכׇּל־בָּשָׂרall the fleshכִּיthatאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDהוֹצֵאתִיI have drawnחַרְבִּיmy swordמִתַּעְרָהּfrom its sheathלֹאnotתָשׁוּבreturnעוֹד׃any more

    That all flesh may know that I the LORD have drawn forth my sword out of his sheath: it shall not return any more.

11. 11

    וְאַתָּהand youבֶן־אָדָםson of manהֵאָנַחgroanבְּשִׁבְרוֹןwith breaking ofמׇתְנַיִםthe hipsוּבִמְרִירוּתand with bitternessתֵּאָנַחyou will groanלְעֵינֵיהֶם׃before their eyes

    Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness sigh before their eyes.

12. 12

    וְהָיָהand beכִּי־יֹאמְרוּwhen shall sayאֵלֶיךָto youעַל־מָהupon whatאַתָּהyouנֶאֱנָחgroaningוְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֶל־שְׁמוּעָהto a reportכִי־בָאָהbecause it comesוְנָמֵסand shall meltכׇּל־לֵבall heartוְרָפוּand shall be feebleכׇל־יָדַיִםall handsוְכִהֲתָהand it will grow faintכׇל־רוּחַall spirit ofוְכׇל־בִּרְכַּיִםand all kneesתֵּלַכְנָהshall run withמַּיִםwaterהִנֵּהbeholdבָאָהit comesוְנִהְיָתָהand it will happenנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD

    And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying

    Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

14. 14

    בֶּן־אָדָםson of manהִנָּבֵאprophesyוְאָמַרְתָּand sayכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordאֱמֹרsayחֶרֶבa swordחֶרֶבa swordהוּחַדָּהit has been sharpenedוְגַם־מְרוּטָה׃and also is polished

    Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD; Say, A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also furbished:

15. 15

    לְמַעַןin order thatטְבֹחַto slaughterטֶבַחslaughterהוּחַדָּהit has been sharpenedלְמַעַן־הֱיֵה־לָהּin order that be itבָּרָקglitterמֹרָטָּהit has been polishedאוֹorנָשִׂישׂwe will rejoiceשֵׁבֶטa rod forבְּנִיmy sonמֹאֶסֶתis rejectingכׇּל־עֵץ׃every tree

    It is sharpened to make a sore slaughter; it is furbished that it may glitter: should we then make mirth? it contemneth the rod of my son, as every tree.

16. 16

    וַיִּתֵּןand gaveאֹתָהּitלְמׇרְטָהֿto polish itלִתְפֹּשׂto takeבַּכָּףin the palmהִיא־הוּחַדָּהit is it has been sharpenedחֶרֶבa swordוְהִיאand itמֹרָטָּהit has been polishedלָתֵתto giveאוֹתָהּitבְּיַד־הוֹרֵג׃in the hand of one who slays

    And he hath given it to be furbished, that it may be handled: this sword is sharpened, and it is furbished, to give it into the hand of the slayer.

17. 17

    זְעַקcry outוְהֵילֵלand wailבֶּן־אָדָםson of manכִּי־הִיאbecause it isהָיְתָהwasבְעַמִּיin my peopleהִיאit isבְּכׇל־נְשִׂיאֵיin all the princes ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelמְגוּרֵיterrors by reason ofאֶל־חֶרֶבto the sword ofהָיוּwereאֶת־עַמִּיmy peopleלָכֵןthereforeסְפֹקslapאֶל־יָרֵךְ׃to a thigh

    Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh.

18. 18

    כִּיforבֹחַןit has been testedוּמָהand whatאִם־גַּם־שֵׁבֶטif also the rod ofמֹאֶסֶתis rejectingלֹאnotיִהְיֶהshall beנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD

    Because it is a trial, and what if the sword contemn even the rod? it shall be no more, saith the Lord GOD.

19. 19

    וְאַתָּהand youבֶן־אָדָםson of manהִנָּבֵאprophesyוְהַךְand strikeכַּףpalmאֶל־כָּףto a palmוְתִכָּפֵלso it may be doubledחֶרֶבa swordשְׁלִישִׁתָהa thirdחֶרֶבa swordחֲלָלִיםthose slainהִיאit isחֶרֶבa swordחָלָלthe slainהַגָּדוֹלthe greatהַחֹדֶרֶתthe one which surroundsלָהֶם׃to them

    Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite thine hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which entereth into their privy chambers.

20. 20

    לְמַעַןin order thatלָמוּגto meltלֵבtheir heartוְהַרְבֵּהand muchהַמִּכְשֹׁלִיםthe stumblingsעַלuponכׇּל־שַׁעֲרֵיהֶםall their gatesנָתַתִּיI gaveאִבְחַת־חָרֶבa slaughter of a swordאָחahעֲשׂוּיָהmadeלְבָרָקfor the glitterמְעֻטָּהwrappedלְטָבַח׃for slaughtering

    I have set the point of the sword against all their gates, that their heart may faint, and their ruins be multiplied: ah! it is made bright, it is wrapped up for the slaughter.

21. 21

    הִתְאַחֲדִיbe sharpהֵימִנִיgo to the rightהָשִׂימִיset yourselfהַשְׂמִילִיgo to the leftאָנָהwhitherפָּנַיִךְyour faceמֻעָדוֹת׃set

    Go thee one way or other, either on the right hand, or on the left, whithersoever thy face is set.

22. 22

    וְגַם־אֲנִיand also IאַכֶּהI will smiteכַפִּיMy handאֶל־כַּפִּיto My handוַהֲנִיחֹתִיand I will give restחֲמָתִיMy-furyאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDדִּבַּרְתִּי׃I have spoken

    I will also smite mine hands together, and I will cause my fury to rest: I the LORD have said it.

23. 23

    וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying

    The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,

24. 24

    וְאַתָּהand youבֶן־אָדָםson of manשִׂים־לְךָput for youשְׁנַיִםtwoדְּרָכִיםdivers waysלָבוֹאto comeחֶרֶבa swordמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלking of Babylonמֵאֶרֶץfrom the land ofאֶחָדoneיֵצְאוּgo forthשְׁנֵיהֶםthe twoוְיָדand a signpostבָּרֵאmakeבְּרֹאשׁin the top ofדֶּרֶךְ־עִירthe way to the cityבָּרֵא׃make

    Also, thou son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.

25. 25

    דֶּרֶךְthe way ofתָּשִׂיםyou shall setלָבוֹאto comeחֶרֶבa swordאֵת־רַבַּתRabbah ofבְּנֵי־עַמּוֹןsons of Ammonוְאֶת־יְהוּדָהand Judahבִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםin Jerusalemבְּצוּרָה׃fortified

    Appoint a way, that the sword may come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and to Judah in Jerusalem the defenced.

26. 26

    כִּי־עָמַדbecause stoodמֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶלking of Babylonאֶל־אֵםat the parting ofהַדֶּרֶךְthe wayבְּרֹאשׁin the top ofשְׁנֵיtwoהַדְּרָכִיםthe roadsלִקְסׇם־קָסֶםto divine divinationקִלְקַלhe shookבַּחִצִּיםwith arrowsשָׁאַלhe askedבַּתְּרָפִיםby the teraphimרָאָהhe sawבַּכָּבֵד׃at the liver

    For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver.

27. 27

    בִּימִינוֹat his right handהָיָהwasהַקֶּסֶםthe divinationיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemלָשׂוּםto putכָּרִיםbattering ramsלִפְתֹּחַto openפֶּהmouthבְּרֶצַחin murderלְהָרִיםto lift upקוֹלthe voice ofבִּתְרוּעָהwith shoutingלָשׂוּםto putכָּרִיםbattering ramsעַל־שְׁעָרִיםagainst the gatesלִשְׁפֹּךְto shedסֹלְלָהa moundלִבְנוֹתto buildדָּיֵק׃a siege wall

    At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort.

28. 28

    וְהָיָהand beלָהֶםto them[כִּקְסׇם־]שָׁוְאas a false divinationבְּעֵינֵיהֶםin their eyesשְׁבֻעֵיoaths ofשְׁבֻעוֹתpromises ofלָהֶםto themוְהוּא־מַזְכִּירbut it brings to remembranceעָוֺןiniquityלְהִתָּפֵשׂ׃to be seized

    And it shall be unto them as a false divination in their sight, to them that have sworn oaths: but he will call to remembrance the iniquity, that they may be taken.

29. 29

    לָכֵןthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODיַעַןbecauseהַזְכַּרְכֶםbrought to remembrance youעֲוֺנְכֶםyour iniquityבְּהִגָּלוֹתbecause were uncoveredפִּשְׁעֵיכֶםyour transgressionsלְהֵרָאוֹתappearחַטֹּאותֵיכֶםyour sinsבְּכֹלin allעֲלִילוֹתֵיכֶםyour practicesיַעַןbecauseהִזָּכֶרְכֶםhave been remembered youבַּכַּףby the handתִּתָּפֵשׂוּ׃you will be seized

    Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.

30. 30

    וְאַתָּהand youחָלָלprofaneרָשָׁעwickedנְשִׂיאa prince ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁר־בָּאwhich cameיוֹמוֹhis dayבְּעֵתin timeעֲוֺןthe iniquity ofקֵץ׃end

    And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,

31. 31

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODהָסִירremoveהַמִּצְנֶפֶתthe turbanוְהָרִיםand take offהָעֲטָרָהthe crownזֹאתthisלֹא־זֹאתnot thisהַשָּׁפָלָהthe lowlyהַגְבֵּהַּexaltוְהַגָּבֹהַּand him that is highהַשְׁפִּיל׃abase

    Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high.

32. 32

    עַוָּהa ruinעַוָּהa ruinעַוָּהa ruinאֲשִׂימֶנָּהI will make itגַּם־זֹאתalso thisלֹאnotהָיָהwasעַד־בֹּאuntil comeאֲשֶׁר־לוֹwhich he hasהַמִּשְׁפָּטthe judgmentוּנְתַתִּיו׃and I will give it

    I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.

33. 33

    וְאַתָּהand youבֶן־אָדָםson of manהִנָּבֵאprophesyוְאָמַרְתָּand sayכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODאֶל־בְּנֵיunto the sons ofעַמּוֹןAmmonוְאֶל־חֶרְפָּתָםand their reproachוְאָמַרְתָּand sayחֶרֶבa swordחֶרֶבa swordפְּתוּחָהopenלְטֶבַחfor slaughterמְרוּטָהis polishedלְהָכִילfor graspingלְמַעַןin order thatבָּרָק׃the glitter

    And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughter it is furbished, to consume because of the glittering:

34. 34

    בַּחֲזוֹתwhen seeלָךְto youשָׁוְאfalsehoodבִּקְסׇם־לָךְwhen divine for youכָּזָבa lieלָתֵתto giveאוֹתָךְyouאֶל־צַוְּארֵיto the neck ofחַלְלֵיslain ofרְשָׁעִיםwicked menאֲשֶׁר־בָּאwhich cameיוֹמָםtheir dayבְּעֵתin timeעֲוֺןthe iniquity ofקֵץ׃end

    Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have an end.

35. 35

    הָשַׁבbring it backאֶל־תַּעְרָהּto its sheathבִּמְקוֹםat the place ofאֲשֶׁר־נִבְרֵאתwhich you were createdבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמְכֻרוֹתַיִךְyour originsאֶשְׁפֹּטI judgeאֹתָךְ׃you

    Shall I cause it to return into his sheath? I will judge thee in the place where thou wast created, in the land of thy nativity.

36. 36

    וְשָׁפַכְתִּיand have I shedעָלַיִךְupon youזַעְמִיMy-indignationבְּאֵשׁwith fireעֶבְרָתִיMy-wrathאָפִיחַI will blowעָלָיִךְon youוּנְתַתִּיךְand I will put on youבְּיַדin the hand ofאֲנָשִׁיםmenבֹּעֲרִיםbrutishחָרָשֵׁיskilful toמַשְׁחִית׃destroys

    And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee, I will blow against thee in the fire of my wrath, and deliver thee into the hand of brutish men, and skilful to destroy.

37. 37

    לָאֵשׁto the fireתִּהְיֶהshall beלְאׇכְלָהfor fuelדָּמֵךְyour bloodיִהְיֶהshall beבְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהָאָרֶץthe landלֹאnotתִזָּכֵרִיyou will be rememberedכִּיbecauseאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDדִּבַּרְתִּי׃I have spoken

    Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered: for I the LORD have spoken it.
