    The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,

    מַה־לָּכֶםma-la/KHEMwhat do you meanאַתֶּםat/TEMyouמֹשְׁלִיםmosh/LIMuseאֶת־הַמָּשָׁלet-ham/ma/SHALthe proverbהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisעַל־אַדְמַתal-ad/MATconcerning the land ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאָבוֹתa/VOTthe fathersיֹאכְלוּyo/khe/LUhave eatenבֹסֶרVO/sersour grapesוְשִׁנֵּיve/shin/NEand the teeth ofהַבָּנִיםhab/ba/NIMthe childrenתִּקְהֶינָה׃tik/HE/naare set on edge

    What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?

    חַי־אָנִיchay-A/nias I liveנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODאִם־יִהְיֶהim-yih/YEshall not beלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youעוֹדodany longerמְשֹׁלme/SHOLto useהַמָּשָׁלham/ma/SHALthe proverbהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃be/Yis/ra/ELin Israel

    As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

    הֵןhenbeholdכׇּל־הַנְּפָשׁוֹתkol-han/ne/fa/SHOTall the soulsלִיliare mineהֵנָּהHEN/natheyכְּנֶפֶשׁke/NE/feshas the soul ofהָאָבha/AVthe fatherוּכְנֶפֶשׁu/khe/NE/feshso also the soul ofהַבֵּןhab/BENthe sonלִי־הֵנָּהli-HEN/nathey are mineהַנֶּפֶשׁhan/NE/feshthe soulהַחֹטֵאתha/cho/TETthat sinsהִיאhiitתָמוּת׃ta/MUTit shall die

    Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

    וְאִישׁve/ISHbut a manכִּי־יִהְיֶהki-yih/YEif he isצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousוְעָשָׂהve/a/SAand doesמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjusticeוּצְדָקָה׃u/tse/da/KAand righteousness

    But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

    אֶל־הֶהָרִיםel-he/ha/RIMon the mountainsלֹאlonotאָכָלa/KHALhas eatenוְעֵינָיוve/e/NAYVand his eyesלֹאlonotנָשָׂאna/SAlifted upאֶל־גִּלּוּלֵיel-gil/lu/LEto the idols ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְאֶת־אֵשֶׁתve/ET-E/shetand the wife ofרֵעֵהוּre/E/huhis neighborלֹאlonotטִמֵּאtim/MEhas defiledוְאֶל־אִשָּׁהve/EL-ish/SHAnor to a womanנִדָּהnid/DAin her impurityלֹאlonotיִקְרָב׃yik/RAVcome near

    And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,

    וְאִישׁve/ISHand any manלֹאlonotיוֹנֶהyo/NEhas wrongedחֲבֹלָתוֹcha/vo/la/TOhis pledgeחוֹבchovfor a debtיָשִׁיבya/SHIVhas restoredגְּזֵלָהge/ze/LArobberyלֹאlonotיִגְזֹלyig/ZOLhas committedלַחְמוֹlach/MOhis breadלְרָעֵבle/ra/EVto the hungryיִתֵּןyit/TENhas givenוְעֵירֹםve/e/ROMand the nakedיְכַסֶּה־בָּגֶד׃ye/khas/SE-BA/gedcovered with a garment

    And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

    בַּנֶּשֶׁךְban/NE/shekhat interestלֹא־יִתֵּןlo-yit/TENhas not lentוְתַרְבִּיתve/tar/BITor increaseלֹאlonotיִקָּחyik/KACHtakenמֵעָוֶלme/A/velfrom iniquityיָשִׁיבya/SHIVhas withdrawnיָדוֹya/DOhis handמִשְׁפַּטmish/PATjudgmentאֱמֶתe/METtrueיַעֲשֶׂהya/a/SEhas executedבֵּיןbenbetweenאִישׁishmanלְאִישׁ׃le/ISHand man

    He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,

    בְּחֻקּוֹתַיbe/chuk/ko/TAYin my statutesיְהַלֵּךְye/hal/LEKHhas walkedוּמִשְׁפָּטַיu/mish/pa/TAYand my judgmentsשָׁמַרsha/MARhas keptלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto dealאֱמֶתe/METtrulyצַדִּיקtsad/DIKjustהוּאhuheחָיֹהcha/YOliveיִחְיֶהyich/YEhe shall liveנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe Lordיֱהֹוִה׃AdonaiGOD

    Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.

    וְהוֹלִידve/ho/LIDif he begetsבֵּן־פָּרִיץben-pa/RITSa son who is a robberשֹׁפֵךְsho/FEKHa shedder ofדָּםdambloodוְעָשָׂהve/a/SAand who doesאָחachthe likeמֵאַחַדme/a/CHADto any oneמֵאֵלֶּה׃me/EL/leof these

    If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,

    וְהוּאve/HUand heאֶת־כׇּל־אֵלֶּהet-kol-EL/leall theseלֹאlonotעָשָׂהa/SAhas doneכִּיkibutגַםgamevenאֶל־הֶהָרִיםel-he/ha/RIMon the mountainsאָכַלa/KHALhas eatenוְאֶת־אֵשֶׁתve/ET-E/shetand the wife ofרֵעֵהוּre/E/huhis neighborטִמֵּא׃tim/MEhas defiled

    And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,

    עָנִיa/NIpoorוְאֶבְיוֹןve/ev/YONand needyהוֹנָהho/NAhas wrongedגְּזֵלוֹתge/ze/LOTrobberiesגָּזָלga/ZALhas committedחֲבֹלcha/VOLthe pledgeלֹאlonotיָשִׁיבya/SHIVhas restoredוְאֶל־הַגִּלּוּלִיםve/EL-hag/gil/lu/LIMand to the idolsנָשָׂאna/SAhas lifted upעֵינָיוe/NAYVhis eyesתּוֹעֵבָהto/e/VAabominationעָשָׂה׃a/SAhas committed

    Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

    בַּנֶּשֶׁךְban/NE/shekhat interestנָתַןna/TANhas lentוְתַרְבִּיתve/tar/BITand increaseלָקַחla/KACHhas takenוָחָיva/CHAYshall he then liveלֹאlonotיִחְיֶהyich/YEhe shall liveאֵת־כׇּל־הַתּוֹעֵבוֹתet-kol-hat/to/e/VOTall the abominationsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseעָשָׂהa/SAhe has doneמוֹתmotdieיוּמָתyu/MAThe shall be put to deathדָּמָיוda/MAYVhis bloodבּוֹboon himיִהְיֶה׃yih/YEshall be

    Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהוֹלִידho/LIDif he begetsבֵּןbena sonוַיַּרְאvay/YARwho seesאֶת־כׇּל־חַטֹּאתet-kol-chat/TOTall the sins ofאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe has doneוַיִּרְאֶהvay/yir/Eand considersוְלֹאve/LOand notיַעֲשֶׂהya/a/SEdoesכָּהֵן׃ka/HENthe like

    Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,

    עַל־הֶהָרִיםal-he/ha/RIMon the mountainsלֹאlonotאָכָלa/KHALhas eatenוְעֵינָיוve/e/NAYVand his eyesלֹאlonotנָשָׂאna/SAlifted upאֶל־גִּלּוּלֵיel-gil/lu/LEto the idols ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶת־אֵשֶׁתet-E/shetthe wife ofרֵעֵהוּre/E/huhis neighborלֹאlonotטִמֵּא׃tim/MEhas defiled

    That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,

    וְאִישׁve/ISHand any manלֹאlonotהוֹנָהho/NAhas wrongedחֲבֹלcha/VOLa pledgeלֹאlonotחָבָלcha/VALhas withheldוּגְזֵלָהu/ge/ze/LAand robberyלֹאlonotגָזָלga/ZALhas committedלַחְמוֹlach/MOhis breadלְרָעֵבle/ra/EVto the hungryנָתָןna/TANhas givenוְעֵרוֹםve/e/ROMand the nakedכִּסָּה־בָגֶד׃kis/SA-VA/gedhe has covered with a garment

    Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,

    מֵעָנִיme/a/NIfrom the poorהֵשִׁיבhe/SHIVhas withdrawnיָדוֹya/DOhis handנֶשֶׁךְNE/shekhinterestוְתַרְבִּיתve/tar/BITand profitלֹאlonotלָקָחla/KACHhas takenמִשְׁפָּטַיmish/pa/TAYmy judgmentsעָשָׂהa/SAhas executedבְּחֻקּוֹתַיbe/chuk/ko/TAYin my statutesהָלָךְha/LAKHhas walkedהוּאhuheלֹאlonotיָמוּתya/MUThe shall dieבַּעֲוֺןba/a/VONfor the iniquity ofאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherחָיֹהcha/YOliveיִחְיֶה׃yich/YEhe shall live

    That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

    אָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherכִּי־עָשַׁקki-A/shakbecause he oppressedעֹשֶׁקO/shekoppressionגָּזַלga/ZALrobbedגֵּזֶלGE/zelrobbery ofאָחacha brotherוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whatלֹא־טוֹבlo-tovis not goodעָשָׂהa/SAdidבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongעַמָּיוam/MAYVhis peopleוְהִנֵּה־מֵתve/hin/NE-metbehold he diesבַּעֲוֺנוֹ׃ba/a/vo/NOin his iniquity

    As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.

    וַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you shall sayמַדֻּעַmad/DU/awhyלֹא־נָשָׂאlo-na/SAdoes not bearהַבֵּןhab/BENthe sonבַּעֲוֺןba/a/VONthe iniquity ofהָאָבha/AVthe fatherוְהַבֵּןve/hab/BENwhen the sonמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjusticeוּצְדָקָהu/tse/da/KAand righteousnessעָשָׂהa/SAhas doneאֵת־כׇּל־חֻקּוֹתַיet-kol-chuk/ko/TAYall my statutesשָׁמַרsha/MARhas keptוַיַּעֲשֶׂהvay/ya/a/SEand doneאֹתָםo/TAMthemחָיֹהcha/YOliveיִחְיֶה׃yich/YEhe shall live

    Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.

    הַנֶּפֶשׁhan/NE/feshthe soulהַחֹטֵאתha/cho/TETthat sinsהִיאhiitתָמוּתta/MUTit shall dieבֵּןbenthe sonלֹא־יִשָּׂאlo-yis/SAshall not bearבַּעֲוֺןba/a/VONthe iniquity ofהָאָבha/AVthe fatherוְאָבve/AVnor the fatherלֹאlonotיִשָּׂאyis/SAbearבַּעֲוֺןba/a/VONthe iniquity ofהַבֵּןhab/BENthe sonצִדְקַתtsid/KATthe righteousness ofהַצַּדִּיקhats/tsad/DIKthe righteousעָלָיוa/LAYVon himתִּהְיֶהtih/YEshall beוְרִשְׁעַתve/rish/ATand the wickedness of(רשע)rash[הָרָשָׁע]ha/ra/SHAthe wickedעָלָיוa/LAYVon himתִּהְיֶה׃tih/YEshall be

    The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

    וְהָרָשָׁעve/ha/ra/SHAbut the wickedכִּיkiifיָשׁוּבya/SHUVturnsמִכׇּל־חַטֹּאתָוmik/KOL-chat/to/TAVfrom all his sinsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe has committedוְשָׁמַרve/sha/MARand keepsאֶת־כׇּל־חֻקּוֹתַיet-kol-chuk/ko/TAYall my statutesוְעָשָׂהve/a/SAand doesמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjusticeוּצְדָקָהu/tse/da/KAand righteousnessחָיֹהcha/YOliveיִחְיֶהyich/YEhe shall liveלֹאlonotיָמוּת׃ya/MUThe shall die

    But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

    כׇּל־פְּשָׁעָיוkol-pe/sha/AYVall his transgressionsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe has committedלֹאlonotיִזָּכְרוּyiz/za/khe/RUshall be rememberedלוֹloagainst himבְּצִדְקָתוֹbe/tsid/ka/TOin his righteousnessאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAthat he has doneיִחְיֶה׃yich/YEhe shall live

    All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

    הֶחָפֹץhe/cha/FOTSdelightאֶחְפֹּץech/POTSdo I delightמוֹתmotin the death ofרָשָׁעra/SHAthe wickedנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODהֲלוֹאha/LOand notבְּשׁוּבוֹbe/shu/VOthat he should turnמִדְּרָכָיוmid/de/ra/KHAYVfrom his waysוְחָיָה׃ve/cha/YAand live

    Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

    וּבְשׁוּבu/ve/SHUVbut when turns awayצַדִּיקtsad/DIKthe righteousמִצִּדְקָתוֹmits/tsid/ka/TOfrom his righteousnessוְעָשָׂהve/a/SAand commitsעָוֶלA/veliniquityכְּכֹלke/KHOLand does according to allהַתּוֹעֵבוֹתhat/to/e/VOTthe abominationsאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAthat doesהָרָשָׁעha/ra/SHAthe wickedיַעֲשֶׂהya/a/SEdoesוָחָיva/CHAYshall he liveכׇּל־צִדְקֹתָוkol-tsid/ko/TAVall his righteous deedsאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAthat he has doneלֹאlonotתִזָּכַרְנָהtiz/za/KHAR/nashall be rememberedבְּמַעֲלוֹbe/ma/a/LOin his treacheryאֲשֶׁר־מָעַלa/SHER-ma/ALthat he committedוּבְחַטָּאתוֹu/ve/chat/ta/TOand in his sinאֲשֶׁר־חָטָאa/SHER-cha/TAthat he has sinnedבָּםbamin themיָמוּת׃ya/MUThe shall die

    But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

    וַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you shall sayלֹאlonotיִתָּכֵןyit/ta/KHENis fairדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhthe way ofאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe Lordשִׁמְעוּ־נָאshim/U-nahear nowבֵּיתbetO house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהֲדַרְכִּיha/dar/KIis my wayלֹאlonotיִתָּכֵןyit/ta/KHENis fairהֲלֹאha/LOare notדַרְכֵיכֶםdar/khe/KHEMyour waysלֹאlonotיִתָּכֵנוּ׃yit/ta/KHE/nufair

    Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

  26. 26

    בְּשׁוּב־צַדִּיקbe/SHUV-tsad/DIKwhen a righteous man turnsמִצִּדְקָתוֹmits/tsid/ka/TOfrom his righteousnessוְעָשָׂהve/a/SAand commitsעָוֶלA/veliniquityוּמֵתu/METand diesעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMfor themבְּעַוְלוֹbe/av/LOin his iniquityאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAthat he has doneיָמוּת׃ya/MUThe shall die

    When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

    וּבְשׁוּבu/ve/SHUVagain when turns awayרָשָׁעra/SHAthe wickedמֵרִשְׁעָתוֹme/rish/a/TOfrom his wickednessאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe has committedוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand doesמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjusticeוּצְדָקָהu/tse/da/KAand righteousnessהוּאhuheאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOhis soulיְחַיֶּה׃ye/chay/YEhe shall save alive

    Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

    וַיִּרְאֶהvay/yir/Ebecause he considers(וישוב)vayashavav[וַיָּשׇׁב]vay/YA/shovand turnsמִכׇּל־פְּשָׁעָיוmik/KOL-pe/sha/AYVfrom all his transgressionsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe has committedחָיוֹcha/YOliveיִחְיֶהyich/YEhe shall liveלֹאlonotיָמוּת׃ya/MUThe shall die

    Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

    וְאָמְרוּve/a/me/RUyet saysבֵּיתbetthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֹאlonotיִתָּכֵןyit/ta/KHENis fairדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhthe way ofאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe Lordהַדְּרָכַיhad/de/ra/KHAYare my waysלֹאlonotיִתָּכְנוּyit/ta/khe/NUfairבֵּיתbetO house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהֲלֹאha/LOare notדַרְכֵיכֶםdar/khe/KHEMyour waysלֹאlonotיִתָּכֵן׃yit/ta/KHENis fair

    Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?

  30. 30

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeאִישׁisheachכִּדְרָכָיוkid/ra/KHAYVaccording to his waysאֶשְׁפֹּטesh/POTI will judgeאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבֵּיתbetO house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODשׁוּבוּSHU/vurepentוְהָשִׁיבוּve/ha/SHI/vuand turnמִכׇּל־פִּשְׁעֵיכֶםmik/KOL-pish/e/KHEMfrom all your transgressionsוְלֹא־יִהְיֶהve/LO-yih/YEso it shall not beלָכֶםla/KHEMyourלְמִכְשׁוֹלle/mikh/SHOLa stumbling blockעָוֺן׃a/VONiniquity

    Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

    הַשְׁלִיכוּhash/LI/khucast awayמֵעֲלֵיכֶםme/a/le/KHEMfrom youאֶת־כׇּל־פִּשְׁעֵיכֶםet-kol-pish/e/KHEMall your transgressionsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERby whichפְּשַׁעְתֶּםpe/sha/TEMyou have transgressedבָּםbamin themוַעֲשׂוּva/a/SUand makeלָכֶםla/KHEMyourselvesלֵבleva heartחָדָשׁcha/DASHnewוְרוּחַve/RU/achand a spiritחֲדָשָׁהcha/da/SHAnewוְלָמָּהve/LAM/maand whyתָמֻתוּta/MU/tuwill you dieבֵּיתbetO house ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

    כִּיkiforלֹאlonotאֶחְפֹּץech/POTSdo I delightבְּמוֹתbe/MOTin the death ofהַמֵּתham/METone who diesנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODוְהָשִׁיבוּve/ha/SHI/vuso turnוִחְיוּ׃vich/YUand live

    For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
