    וַיָּבוֹאand he cameאֵלַיto meאֲנָשִׁיםmenמִזִּקְנֵיfrom elders ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוַיֵּשְׁבוּand satלְפָנָי׃before me

    Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying

    And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

    בֶּן־אָדָםson of manהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menהָאֵלֶּהtheseהֶעֱלוּset upגִלּוּלֵיהֶםtheir idolsעַל־לִבָּםupon their heartsוּמִכְשׁוֹלand the stumbling block ofעֲוֺנָםtheir iniquityנָתְנוּthey gaveנֹכַחopposite toפְּנֵיהֶםtheir facesהַאִדָּרֹשׁshould I at allאִדָּרֵשׁwill I let myself be consultedלָהֶם׃to them

    Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

    לָכֵןthereforeדַּבֵּר־אוֹתָםspeak to themוְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֲלֵיהֶםto themכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODאִישׁanyאִישׁmanמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁרwhichיַעֲלֶהsets upאֶת־גִּלּוּלָיוhis idolsאֶל־לִבּוֹto his heartוּמִכְשׁוֹלand the stumbling block ofעֲוֺנוֹhis iniquityיָשִׂיםputsנֹכַחopposite toפָּנָיוhis faceוּבָאand comeאֶל־הַנָּבִיאto the prophetאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDנַעֲנֵיתִיwill answer himלוֹto him(בה)[בָא]cameבְּרֹבwith the multitude ofגִּלּוּלָיו׃his idols

    Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

    לְמַעַןin order thatתְּפֹשׂI may catchאֶת־בֵּית־יִשְׂרָאֵלhouse of Israelבְּלִבָּםin their heartאֲשֶׁרwhichנָזֹרוּthey have become estrangedמֵעָלַיfrom meבְּגִלּוּלֵיהֶםby their idolsכֻּלָּם׃all of them

    That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

    לָכֵןthereforeאֱמֹרsayאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODשׁוּבוּreturnוְהָשִׁיבוּand returnמֵעַלfrom uponגִּלּוּלֵיכֶםyour idolsוּמֵעַלand from onכׇּל־תּוֹעֲבֹתֵיכֶםall your abominationsהָשִׁיבוּreturnפְנֵיכֶם׃your faces

    Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

    כִּיforאִישׁanyאִישׁmanמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוּמֵהַגֵּרand from the sojournerאֲשֶׁר־יָגוּרwhich shall dwellבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְיִנָּזֵרwho separates himselfמֵאַחֲרַיfrom after meוְיַעַלand sets upגִּלּוּלָיוhis idolsאֶל־לִבּוֹto his heartוּמִכְשׁוֹלand the stumbling block ofעֲוֺנוֹhis iniquityיָשִׂיםputsנֹכַחopposite toפָּנָיוhis faceוּבָאand comeאֶל־הַנָּבִיאto the prophetלִדְרׇשׁ־לוֹto consult himבִיconcerning meאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDנַעֲנֶה־לּוֹwill answer himבִּי׃by myself

    For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:

    וְנָתַתִּיand I will giveפָנַיmy faceבָּאִישׁthe manהַהוּאthatוַהֲשִׂמֹתִיהוּand I will make himלְאוֹתfor a signוְלִמְשָׁלִיםand into bywordsוְהִכְרַתִּיוand I will cut off himמִתּוֹךְfrom the midst ofעַמִּיmy peopleוִידַעְתֶּםand you shall knowכִּי־אֲנִיthat I amיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

    וְהַנָּבִיאand the prophetכִי־יְפֻתֶּהthat he will be persuadedוְדִבֶּרand spokeדָּבָרa wordאֲנִיIיְהֹוָהthe LORDפִּתֵּיתִיI have deceivedאֵת־הַנָּבִיאthe prophetהַהוּאthatוְנָטִיתִיand I will stretch outאֶת־יָדִיmy handעָלָיוupon himוְהִשְׁמַדְתִּיוand I will destroy himמִתּוֹךְfrom the midst ofעַמִּיmy peopleיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

    And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

    וְנָשְׂאוּand they will bearעֲוֺנָםtheir iniquityכַּעֲוֺןas the iniquity ofהַדֹּרֵשׁhim that seeksכַּעֲוֺןas the iniquity ofהַנָּבִיאthe prophetיִהְיֶה׃shall be

    And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;

    לְמַעַןin order thatלֹא־יִתְעוּnot they will wander aboutעוֹדany moreבֵּית־יִשְׂרָאֵלthe house of Israelמֵאַחֲרַיfrom after meוְלֹא־יִטַּמְּאוּand not they will make themselves uncleanעוֹדany moreבְּכׇל־פִּשְׁעֵיהֶםin all their transgressionsוְהָיוּ־לִיthen they shall be to meלְעָםpeopleוַאֲנִיand IאֶהְיֶהI may beלָהֶםto themלֵאלֹהִיםGodנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD

    That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.

    וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלַיto meלֵאמֹר׃saying

    The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,

  13. 13

    בֶּן־אָדָםson of manאֶרֶץa landכִּיbecauseתֶחֱטָא־לִיit will sin to meלִמְעׇל־מַעַלinto treachery unfaithfulnessוְנָטִיתִיand I will stretch outיָדִיmy handעָלֶיהָupon itוְשָׁבַרְתִּיand I will breakלָהּto herמַטֵּה־לָחֶםthe staff of foodוְהִשְׁלַחְתִּי־בָהּand I will send in herרָעָבfamineוְהִכְרַתִּיand cut offמִמֶּנָּהfrom itאָדָםmanוּבְהֵמָה׃and beast

    Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

    וְהָיוּthen they shall beשְׁלֹשֶׁתthreeהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menהָאֵלֶּהtheseבְּתוֹכָהּin its midstנֹחַNoah[דָּנִיֵּאל]Danielוְאִיּוֹבand Jobהֵמָּהtheyבְצִדְקָתָםby their righteousnessיְנַצְּלוּthey should saveנַפְשָׁםtheir soulנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD

    Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

  15. 15

    לוּ־חַיָּהif a beastרָעָהevilאַעֲבִירI will cause to pass byבָּאָרֶץin the landוְשִׁכְּלָתָּהand they spoil itוְהָיְתָהand it beשְׁמָמָהdesolateמִבְּלִיwithoutעוֹבֵרpassing alongמִפְּנֵיbecause ofהַחַיָּה׃the beasts

    If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

    שְׁלֹשֶׁתthreeהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menהָאֵלֶּהtheseבְּתוֹכָהּin its midstחַי־אָנִיas I liveנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODאִם־בָּנִיםif sonsוְאִם־בָּנוֹתand if daughtersיַצִּילוּthey will rescueהֵמָּהtheyלְבַדָּםfor themselves aloneיִנָּצֵלוּthey will be deliveredוְהָאָרֶץand the landתִּהְיֶהshall beשְׁמָמָה׃desolate

    Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

    אוֹorחֶרֶבa swordאָבִיאI will bringעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landהַהִיאthatוְאָמַרְתִּיand I will sayחֶרֶבa swordתַּעֲבֹרmay passבָּאָרֶץin the landוְהִכְרַתִּיand cut offמִמֶּנָּהfrom itאָדָםmanוּבְהֵמָה׃and beast

    Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

    וּשְׁלֹשֶׁתand the threeהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menהָאֵלֶּהtheseבְּתוֹכָהּin its midstחַי־אָנִיas I liveנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODלֹאnotיַצִּילוּthey will rescueבָּנִיםsonsוּבָנוֹתand daughtersכִּיbecauseהֵםtheyלְבַדָּםfor themselves aloneיִנָּצֵלוּ׃they will be delivered

    Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

  19. 19

    אוֹorדֶּבֶרa pestilenceאֲשַׁלַּחI shall sendאֶל־הָאָרֶץunto the landהַהִיאthatוְשָׁפַכְתִּיand have I shedחֲמָתִיMy-furyעָלֶיהָupon itבְּדָםin bloodלְהַכְרִיתto cut offמִמֶּנָּהfrom itאָדָםmanוּבְהֵמָה׃and beast

    Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:

    וְנֹחַand Noah[דָּנִיֵּאל]Danielוְאִיּוֹבand Jobבְּתוֹכָהּin its midstחַי־אָנִיas I liveנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODאִם־בֵּןif a sonאִם־בַּתif daughter ofיַצִּילוּthey will rescueהֵמָּהtheyבְצִדְקָתָםby their righteousnessיַצִּילוּthey will rescueנַפְשָׁם׃their soul

    Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

  21. 21

    כִּיforכֹהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODאַףmoreoverכִּי־אַרְבַּעַתbecause four ofשְׁפָטַיmy judgmentsהָרָעִיםevilחֶרֶבthe swordוְרָעָבand the famineוְחַיָּהand beastרָעָהevilוָדֶבֶרand pestilenceשִׁלַּחְתִּיI have sentאֶל־יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםto Jerusalemלְהַכְרִיתto cut offמִמֶּנָּהfrom itאָדָםmanוּבְהֵמָה׃and beast

    For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

  22. 22

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdנוֹתְרָה־בָּהּthere remains in itפְּלֵטָהescapeהַמּוּצָאִיםthe ones taken outבָּנִיםsonsוּבָנוֹתand daughtersהִנָּםbehold theyיוֹצְאִיםgoing forthאֲלֵיכֶםunto youוּרְאִיתֶםand you sawאֶת־דַּרְכָּםtheir wayוְאֶת־עֲלִילוֹתָםand their deedsוְנִחַמְתֶּםand you will be comfortedעַל־הָרָעָהupon the evilאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵבֵאתִיI have broughtעַל־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםupon Jerusalemאֵת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall thatהֵבֵאתִיI have broughtעָלֶיהָ׃upon it

    Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

  23. 23

    וְנִחֲמוּand they shall consoleאֶתְכֶםyouכִּי־תִרְאוּwhen you shall seeאֶת־דַּרְכָּםtheir wayוְאֶת־עֲלִילוֹתָםand their deedsוִידַעְתֶּםand you shall knowכִּיthatלֹאnotחִנָּםwithout causeעָשִׂיתִיI have doneאֵת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂיתִיall that I have doneבָהּin itנְאֻםsaysאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD

    And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.
