1. 1

   וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאִישׁisha manמִבֵּיתmib/BETof the house ofלֵוִיLe/VILeviוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־בַּת־לֵוִי׃et-Bat-le/VIa daughter of Levi

   And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

2. 2

   וַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreבֵּןbena sonוַתֵּרֶאvat/TE/reand when she sawאֹתוֹo/TOhimכִּי־טוֹבki-tovthat goodlyהוּאhuhe wasוַתִּצְפְּנֵהוּvat/tits/pe/NE/huand she hid himשְׁלֹשָׁהshe/lo/SHAthreeיְרָחִים׃ye/ra/CHIMmonths

   And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

   וְלֹא־יָכְלָהve/LO-ya/khe/LAand when she could notעוֹדodany longerהַצְּפִינוֹhats/tse/fi/NOhide himוַתִּקַּח־לוֹvat/tik/KACH-loshe took for himתֵּבַתTE/vatan ark ofגֹּמֶאGO/mepapyrusוַתַּחְמְרָהֿvat/tach/me/RAand daubed itבַחֵמָרva/che/MARwith bitumenוּבַזָּפֶתu/vaz/ZA/fetand with pitchוַתָּשֶׂםvat/TA/semand putבָּהּbain itאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childוַתָּשֶׂםvat/TA/semand putבַּסּוּףbas/SUFin the reedsעַל־שְׂפַתal-se/FATby the brink ofהַיְאֹר׃Hay/ORthe Nile

   And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

   And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

   וַתֵּרֶדvat/TE/redand came downבַּת־פַּרְעֹהbat-Par/Othe daughter of Pharaohלִרְחֹץlir/CHOTSto washעַל־הַיְאֹרal-Hay/ORat the Nileוְנַעֲרֹתֶיהָve/na/a/ro/TE/haand her maidensהֹלְכֹתhol/KHOTwalkedעַל־יַדal-yadalong byהַיְאֹרHay/ORthe Nileוַתֵּרֶאvat/TE/reand sawאֶת־הַתֵּבָהet-hat/te/VAthe arkבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongהַסּוּףhas/SUFthe reedsוַתִּשְׁלַחvat/tish/LACHand she sentאֶת־אֲמָתָהּet-a/ma/TAher maidוַתִּקָּחֶהָ׃vat/tik/ka/CHE/haand took it

   And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

   וַתִּפְתַּחvat/tif/TACHand she opened itוַתִּרְאֵהוּvat/tir/E/huand she saw himאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childוְהִנֵּה־נַעַרve/hin/NE-NA/arand behold the babeבֹּכֶהbo/KHEweptוַתַּחְמֹלvat/tach/MOLand she had compassionעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidמִיַּלְדֵיmiy/yal/DEof the children ofהָעִבְרִיםha/Iv/RIMthe Hebrewsזֶה׃zethis is

   And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

   וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֲחֹתוֹa/cho/TOhis sisterאֶל־בַּת־פַּרְעֹהel-Bat-par/Oto the daughter of Pharaohהַאֵלֵךְha/e/LEKHshall I goוְקָרָאתִיve/ka/RA/tiand callלָךְlakhfor youאִשָּׁהish/SHAa womanמֵינֶקֶתme/NE/keta nurseמִןminofהָעִבְרִיֹּתha/Iv/riy/YOTthe Hebrew womenוְתֵינִקve/te/NIKthat she may nurseלָךְlakhfor youאֶת־הַיָּלֶד׃et-hay/YA/ledthe child

   Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

   וַתֹּאמֶר־לָהּvat/TO/mer-laand said to herבַּת־פַּרְעֹהbat-Par/Othe daughter of PharaohלֵכִיLE/khigoוַתֵּלֶךְvat/TE/lekhand wentהָעַלְמָהha/al/MAthe maidenוַתִּקְרָאvat/tik/RAand she calledאֶת־אֵםet-emthe mother ofהַיָּלֶד׃hay/YA/ledthe boy

   And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

   וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלָהּlato herבַּת־פַּרְעֹהbat-Par/Othe daughter of Pharaohהֵילִיכִיhe/LI/khitakeאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְהֵינִקִהוּve/he/ni/KI/huand nurse himלִיlifor meוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֶתֵּןet/TENwill giveאֶת־שְׂכָרֵךְet-se/kha/REKHyour wagesוַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childוַתְּנִיקֵהוּ׃vat/te/ni/KE/huand nursed him

   And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

    וַיִּגְדַּלvay/yig/DALand grewהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childוַתְּבִאֵהוּvat/te/vi/E/huand she brought himלְבַת־פַּרְעֹהle/VAT-par/Oto the daughter of Pharaohוַיְהִי־לָהּvay/HI-laand he became herלְבֵןle/VENsonוַתִּקְרָאvat/tik/RAand she calledשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidכִּיkibecauseמִן־הַמַּיִםmin-ham/MA/yimfrom the watersמְשִׁיתִהוּ׃me/shi/TI/huI drew him out

    And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵםha/HEMthoseוַיִּגְדַּלvay/yig/DALand grewמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאֶל־אֶחָיוel-e/CHAYVto his brethrenוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawבְּסִבְלֹתָםbe/siv/lo/TAMon their burdensוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawאִישׁisha manמִצְרִיMits/RIan Egyptianמַכֶּהmak/KEsmitingאִישׁ־עִבְרִיish-Iv/RIa Hebrew manמֵאֶחָיו׃me/e/CHAYVone of his brethren

    And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

12. 12

    וַיִּפֶןvay/YI/fenand he turnedכֹּהkothis wayוָכֹהva/KHOand that wayוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawכִּיkithatאֵיןenthere was noאִישׁishany manוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand he smoteאֶת־הַמִּצְרִיet-Ham/mits/RIthe Egyptianוַיִּטְמְנֵהוּvay/yit/me/NE/huand hid himבַּחוֹל׃ba/CHOLin the sand

    And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַשֵּׁנִיhash/she/NIthe secondוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdשְׁנֵי־אֲנָשִׁיםshe/NE-a/na/SHIMtwo menעִבְרִיםIv/RIMHebrewsנִצִּיםnits/TSIMstrove togetherוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָרָשָׁעla/ra/SHAto the wrongdoerלָמָּהLAM/mawhyתַכֶּהtak/KEdo you smiteרֵעֶךָ׃re/E/khayour fellow

    And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמִיmiwhoשָׂמְךָsa/me/KHAmade youלְאִישׁle/ISHa manשַׂרsara princeוְשֹׁפֵטve/sho/FETand a judgeעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuover usהַלְהׇרְגֵנִיhal/hor/ge/NIto kill meאַתָּהat/TAyouאֹמֵרo/MERintendכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהָרַגְתָּha/RAG/tayou killedאֶת־הַמִּצְרִיet-Ham/mits/RIthe Egyptianוַיִּירָאvay/yi/RAand was afraidמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאָכֵןa/KHENsurelyנוֹדַעno/DAis knownהַדָּבָר׃had/da/VARthe thing

    And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

    וַיִּשׁמַעvay/yish/MAand heardפַּרְעֹהPar/OPharaohאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיְבַקֵּשׁvay/vak/KESHand he soughtלַהֲרֹגla/ha/ROGto slayאֶת־מֹשֶׁהet-Mo/SHEMosesוַיִּבְרַחvay/yiv/RACHand fledמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfrom the face ofפַרְעֹהFar/OPharaohוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand dweltבְּאֶרֶץ־מִדְיָןbe/E/rets-mid/YANin the land of Midianוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand he sat downעַל־הַבְּאֵר׃al-hab/be/ERby the well

    Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

16. 16

    וּלְכֹהֵןu/le/kho/HENand the priest ofמִדְיָןMid/YANMidianשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenבָּנוֹתba/NOTdaughtersוַתָּבֹאנָהvat/ta/VO/naand they cameוַתִּדְלֶנָהvat/tid/LE/naand drew waterוַתְּמַלֶּאנָהvat/te/mal/LE/naand they filledאֶת־הָרְהָטִיםet-ha/re/ha/TIMthe troughsלְהַשְׁקוֹתle/hash/KOTto waterצֹאןtsonthe flock ofאֲבִיהֶן׃a/vi/HENtheir father

    Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17. 17

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameהָרֹעִיםha/ro/IMthe shepherdsוַיְגָרְשׁוּםvay/ga/re/SHUMand drove them awayוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand stood upמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesוַיּוֹשִׁעָןvay/yo/shi/ANand saved themוַיַּשְׁקְvay/YASHKand he wateredאֶת־צֹאנָם׃et-tso/NAMtheir flock

    And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

18. 18

    וַתָּבֹאנָהvat/ta/VO/naand they cameאֶל־רְעוּאֵלel-Re/u/ELto Reuelאֲבִיהֶןa/vi/HENtheir fatherוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyמִהַרְתֶּןmi/har/TENhave you hastenedבֹּאboto comeהַיּוֹם׃hay/YOMtoday

    And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

19. 19

    וַתֹּאמַרְןָvat/to/MAR/naand they saidאִישׁisha manמִצְרִיMits/RIan Egyptianהִצִּילָנוּhits/tsi/LA/nudelivered usמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofהָרֹעִיםha/ro/IMthe shepherdsוְגַם־דָּלֹהve/GAM-da/LOand also drawדָלָהda/LAhe drewלָנוּLA/nufor usוַיַּשְׁקְvay/YASHKand he wateredאֶת־הַצֹּאן׃et-hats/TSONthe flock

    And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

20. 20

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־בְּנֹתָיוel-be/no/TAYVto his daughtersוְאַיּוֹve/ay/YOand where is heלָמָּהLAM/mawhyזֶּהzeis it thatעֲזַבְתֶּןa/zav/TENhave you leftאֶת־הָאִישׁet-ha/ISHthe manקִרְאֶןkir/ENcallלוֹlohimוְיֹאכַלve/YO/khalthat he may eatלָחֶם׃LA/chembread

    And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

21. 21

    וַיּוֹאֶלvay/YO/eland was contentמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto dwellאֶת־הָאִישׁet-ha/ISHwith the manוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand he gaveאֶת־צִפֹּרָהet-Tsip/po/RAZipporahבִתּוֹvit/TOhis daughterלְמֹשֶׁה׃le/Mo/SHEto Moses

    And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

22. 22

    וַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand boreבֵּןbena sonוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹet-she/MOhis nameגֵּרְשֹׁםGer/SHOMGershomכִּיkiforאָמַרa/MARhe saidגֵּרgera strangerהָיִיתִיha/YI/tiI have beenבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin a landנׇכְרִיָּה׃nokh/riy/YAstrange

    And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַיָּמִיםvay/ya/MIMin the daysהָרַבִּיםha/rab/BIMmanyהָהֵםha/HEMthoseוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptוַיֵּאָנְחוּvay/ye/a/ne/CHUand sighedבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelמִן־הָעֲבֹדָהmin-ha/a/vo/DAby reason of the bondageוַיִּזְעָקוּvay/yiz/A/kuand they criedוַתַּעַלvat/TA/aland came upשַׁוְעָתָםshav/a/TAMtheir cryאֶל־הָאֱלֹהִיםel-ha/e/lo/HIMto Godמִן־הָעֲבֹדָה׃min-ha/a/vo/DAby reason of the bondage

    And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

24. 24

    וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand heardאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶת־נַאֲקָתָםet-na/a/ka/TAMtheir groaningוַיִּזְכֹּרvay/yiz/KORand rememberedאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶת־בְּרִיתוֹet-be/ri/TOHis covenantאֶת־אַבְרָהָםet-Av/ra/HAMwith Abrahamאֶת־יִצְחָקet-Yits/CHAKwith Isaacוְאֶת־יַעֲקֹב׃ve/ET-ya/a/KOVand with Jacob

    And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

25. 25

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיֵּדַעvay/YE/daand knewאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
