Deuteronomy 24 דְּבָרִים פרק כ״ד

1. 1

   כִּי־יִקַּחif take upon himאִישׁa manאִשָּׁהa womanוּבְעָלָהּand he will marry herוְהָיָהand beאִם־לֹאif notתִמְצָא־חֵןit will find favorבְּעֵינָיוin his eyesכִּי־מָצָאbecause foundבָהּin herעֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofדָּבָרthingוְכָתַבand he will writeלָהּto herסֵפֶרa bill ofכְּרִיתֻתdivorcementוְנָתַןand he shall giveבְּיָדָהּinto her handוְשִׁלְּחָהּand he will send away herמִבֵּיתוֹ׃from his house

   When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

   וְיָצְאָהand she shall departמִבֵּיתוֹfrom his houseוְהָלְכָהand she will goוְהָיְתָהand it beלְאִישׁ־אַחֵר׃for a man other

   And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.

3. 3

   וּשְׂנֵאָהּand he will hate herהָאִישׁthe manהָאַחֲרוֹןthe latterוְכָתַבand he will writeלָהּto herסֵפֶרa bill ofכְּרִיתֻתdivorcementוְנָתַןand he shall giveבְּיָדָהּinto her handוְשִׁלְּחָהּand he will send away herמִבֵּיתוֹfrom his houseאוֹorכִיor ifיָמוּתshall dieהָאִישׁthe manהָאַחֲרוֹןthe latterאֲשֶׁר־לְקָחָהּwhich he has taken herלוֹto himלְאִשָּׁה׃for wife

   And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;

   לֹא־יוּכַלnot canבַּעְלָהּher husbandהָרִאשׁוֹןthe firstאֲשֶׁר־שִׁלְּחָהּwhich he sent away herלָשׁוּבto returnלְקַחְתָּהּto take herלִהְיוֹתto beלוֹto himלְאִשָּׁהfor wifeאַחֲרֵיafterאֲשֶׁרwhichהֻטַּמָּאָהshe is defiledכִּי־תוֹעֵבָהbecause abominableהִואsheלִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְלֹאand notתַחֲטִיאyou will cause to sinאֶת־הָאָרֶץthe landאֲשֶׁרwhichיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godנֹתֵןgivingלְךָfor youנַחֲלָה׃inheritance

   Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

   כִּי־יִקַּחwhen take upon himאִישׁa manאִשָּׁהa womanחֲדָשָׁהnewלֹאnotיֵצֵאhe shall go outבַּצָּבָאin the armyוְלֹא־יַעֲבֹרneither shall be chargedעָלָיוupon himלְכׇל־דָּבָרwith any businessנָקִיfreeיִהְיֶהshall beלְבֵיתוֹto his houseשָׁנָהyearאֶחָתoneוְשִׂמַּחand he will cause to rejoiceאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹhis wifeאֲשֶׁר־לָקָח׃which he took

   When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.

6. 6

   לֹא־יַחֲבֹלnot anyone will take as pledgeרֵחַיִםa hand millוָרָכֶבand an upper millstoneכִּי־נֶפֶשׁfor a lifeהוּאitחֹבֵל׃he takes to pledge

   No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man's life to pledge.

7. 7

   כִּי־יִמָּצֵאif foundאִישׁa manגֹּנֵבstealingנֶפֶשׁsoulמֵאֶחָיוof his brethrenמִבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְהִתְעַמֶּר־בּוֹand makes merchandise of himוּמְכָרוֹand he will sell himוּמֵתand he will dieהַגַּנָּבthe thiefהַהוּאthatוּבִעַרְתָּand you will removeהָרָעthat which is evilמִקִּרְבֶּךָ׃from your midst

   If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.

8. 8

   הִשָּׁמֶרtake heedבְּנֶגַע־הַצָּרַעַתto the plague of the leprosyלִשְׁמֹרto keepמְאֹדexceedinglyוְלַעֲשׂוֹתand doכְּכֹלaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־יוֹרוּwhich shall teachאֶתְכֶםyouהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsהַלְוִיִּםthe LevitesכַּאֲשֶׁרasצִוִּיתִםI commanded themתִּשְׁמְרוּyou keepלַעֲשׂוֹת׃to do

   Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.

9. 9

   זָכוֹרrememberאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהwhich didיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלְמִרְיָםto Miriamבַּדֶּרֶךְin the wayבְּצֵאתְכֶםwhen you came outמִמִּצְרָיִם׃from Egypt

   Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.

10. 10

    כִּי־תַשֶּׁהwhen you will lendבְרֵעֲךָagainst your neighborמַשַּׁאתa loan ofמְאוּמָהanythingלֹא־תָבֹאnot comeאֶל־בֵּיתוֹto his houseלַעֲבֹטto take as pledgeעֲבֹטוֹ׃his pledge

    When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.

11. 11

    בַּחוּץabroadתַּעֲמֹדshall standוְהָאִישׁand the manאֲשֶׁרwhichאַתָּהyouנֹשֶׁהare lendingבוֹin itיוֹצִיאshall bring outאֵלֶיךָto youאֶת־הַעֲבוֹטthe pledgeהַחוּצָה׃abroad

    Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.

12. 12

    וְאִם־אִישׁand if man ofעָנִיpoorהוּאheלֹאnotתִשְׁכַּבyou will lie withבַּעֲבֹטוֹ׃with his pledge

    And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge:

13. 13

    הָשֵׁבsurelyתָּשִׁיבyou shall restoreלוֹto himאֶת־הַעֲבוֹטthe pledgeכְּבוֹאwhen goes downהַשֶּׁמֶשׁthe sunוְשָׁכַבand he will lieבְּשַׂלְמָתוֹin his own garmentוּבֵרְכֶךָּand he will bless youוּלְךָand to youתִּהְיֶהshall beצְדָקָהrighteousnessלִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָ׃your God

    In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.

14. 14

    לֹא־תַעֲשֹׁקnot you will oppressשָׂכִירa hired workerעָנִיpoorוְאֶבְיוֹןand needyמֵאַחֶיךָof your brethrenאוֹorמִגֵּרְךָof your strangersאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּאַרְצְךָin your landבִּשְׁעָרֶיךָ׃within your gates

    Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:

15. 15

    בְּיוֹמוֹin his dayתִתֵּןyou shall giveשְׂכָרוֹhis rewardוְלֹא־תָבוֹאand not comeעָלָיוupon himהַשֶּׁמֶשׁthe sunכִּיforעָנִיpoorהוּאheוְאֵלָיוand unto itהוּאheנֹשֵׂאsetsאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹhis lifeוְלֹא־יִקְרָאand not callsעָלֶיךָupon youאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDוְהָיָהand beבְךָin youחֵטְא׃sin

    At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.

16. 16

    לֹא־יוּמְתוּnot they shall be put to deathאָבוֹתthe fathersעַל־בָּנִיםupon sonsוּבָנִיםand sonsלֹא־יוּמְתוּnot they shall be put to deathעַל־אָבוֹתupon the fathersאִישׁeachבְּחֶטְאוֹfor his own sinיוּמָתוּ׃they will be put to death

    The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

17. 17

    לֹאnotתַטֶּהyou shall turn asideמִשְׁפַּטthe judgment ofגֵּרa sojournerיָתוֹםa fatherless oneוְלֹאand notתַחֲבֹלyou will take as pledgeבֶּגֶדthe garment ofאַלְמָנָה׃a widow

    Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge:

18. 18

    וְזָכַרְתָּand you shall rememberכִּיthatעֶבֶדthe servant ofהָיִיתָyou wereבְּמִצְרַיִםin Egyptוַיִּפְדְּךָand redeemed youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godמִשָּׁםfrom thereעַל־כֵּןthereforeאָנֹכִיIמְצַוְּךָam commanding youלַעֲשׂוֹתto doאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe thingהַזֶּה׃this

    But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.

19. 19

    כִּיwhenתִקְצֹרyou will harvestקְצִירְךָyour harvestבְשָׂדֶךָin your fieldוְשָׁכַחְתָּand you will forgetעֹמֶרa sheaf ofבַּשָּׂדֶהin the fieldלֹאnotתָשׁוּבyou shall go backלְקַחְתּוֹto fetch itלַגֵּרto the sojournerלַיָּתוֹםto the fatherless oneוְלָאַלְמָנָהand to the widowיִהְיֶהshall beלְמַעַןin order thatיְבָרֶכְךָmay bless youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבְּכֹלin allמַעֲשֵׂהwork ofיָדֶיךָ׃your hands

    When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.

20. 20

    כִּיwhenתַחְבֹּטyou will beatזֵיתְךָyour olive treeלֹאnotתְפַאֵרyou will go over the boughsאַחֲרֶיךָafter youלַגֵּרto the sojournerלַיָּתוֹםto the fatherless oneוְלָאַלְמָנָהand to the widowיִהְיֶה׃shall be

    When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

21. 21

    כִּיwhenתִבְצֹרyou will gather grapesכַּרְמְךָyour vineyardלֹאnotתְעוֹלֵלyou will gleanאַחֲרֶיךָafter youלַגֵּרto the sojournerלַיָּתוֹםto the fatherless oneוְלָאַלְמָנָהand to the widowיִהְיֶה׃shall be

    When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

22. 22

    וְזָכַרְתָּand you shall rememberכִּי־עֶבֶדbecause a servantהָיִיתָyou wereבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרָיִםEgyptעַל־כֵּןthereforeאָנֹכִיIמְצַוְּךָam commanding youלַעֲשׂוֹתto doאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe thingהַזֶּה׃this

    And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
