Deuteronomy 23 דְּבָרִים פרק כ״ג

1. 1

   לֹא־יִקַּחnot take upon himאִישׁa manאֶת־אֵשֶׁתthe wife ofאָבִיוhis fatherוְלֹאand notיְגַלֶּהhe shall uncoverכְּנַףthe skirt ofאָבִיו׃his father

   A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his father's skirt.

2. 2

   לֹא־יָבֹאnot shall comeפְצוּעַ־דַּכָּאone wounded by crushingוּכְרוּתand one who is cut off ofשׇׁפְכָהpenisבִּקְהַלin the assembly ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

3. 3

   לֹא־יָבֹאnot shall comeמַמְזֵרa bastardבִּקְהַלin the assembly ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDגַּםalsoדּוֹרgenerationעֲשִׂירִיtenthלֹא־יָבֹאnot shall comeלוֹto himבִּקְהַלin the assembly ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

4. 4

   לֹא־יָבֹאnot shall comeעַמּוֹנִיan Ammoniteוּמוֹאָבִיand a Moabiteבִּקְהַלin the assembly ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDגַּםalsoדּוֹרgenerationעֲשִׂירִיtenthלֹא־יָבֹאnot shall comeלָהֶםto themבִּקְהַלin the assembly ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַד־עוֹלָם׃forever

   An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:

   עַל־דְּבַרupon the word ofאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־קִדְּמוּnot they metאֶתְכֶםyouבַּלֶּחֶםwith breadוּבַמַּיִםand with waterבַּדֶּרֶךְin the wayבְּצֵאתְכֶםwhen you came outמִמִּצְרָיִםfrom Egyptוַאֲשֶׁרand becauseשָׂכַרhe hiredעָלֶיךָupon youאֶת־בִּלְעָםBalaamבֶּן־בְּעוֹרson of Beorמִפְּתוֹרfrom PethorאֲרַםAram-נַהֲרַיִםnaharaimלְקַלְלֶךָּ׃to curse you

   Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.

   וְלֹא־אָבָהand not was willingיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלִשְׁמֹעַto hearאֶל־בִּלְעָםto Balaamוַיַּהֲפֹךְand overturnedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלְּךָfor youאֶת־הַקְּלָלָהthe curseלִבְרָכָהinto a blessingכִּיbecauseאֲהֵבְךָloves youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָ׃your God

   Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.

7. 7

   לֹא־תִדְרֹשׁnot you will seekשְׁלֹמָםtheir peaceוְטֹבָתָםand their goodכׇּל־יָמֶיךָall your daysלְעוֹלָם׃forever

   Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.

8. 8

   לֹא־תְתַעֵבnot you will abhorאֲדֹמִיan Edomiteכִּיbecauseאָחִיךָyour brotherהוּאheלֹא־תְתַעֵבnot you will abhorמִצְרִיan Egyptianכִּי־גֵרbecause a sojournerהָיִיתָyou wereבְאַרְצוֹ׃in his land

   Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.

9. 9

   בָּנִיםsonsאֲשֶׁר־יִוָּלְדוּwhich they shall be bornלָהֶםto themדּוֹרgenerationשְׁלִישִׁיthirdיָבֹאshall comeלָהֶםto themבִּקְהַלin the assembly ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.

10. 10

    כִּי־תֵצֵאwhen shall proceedמַחֲנֶהa campעַל־אֹיְבֶיךָupon your enemiesוְנִשְׁמַרְתָּand you will keep yourselfמִכֹּלof allדָּבָרthingרָע׃evil

    When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing.

11. 11

    כִּי־יִהְיֶהif he shall beבְךָin youאִישׁa manאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־יִהְיֶהshall not beטָהוֹרcleanמִקְּרֵה־לָיְלָהby uncleanness that chances by nightוְיָצָאand shall come forthאֶל־מִחוּץto withoutלַמַּחֲנֶהthe campלֹאnotיָבֹאshall comeאֶל־תּוֹךְdown intoהַמַּחֲנֶה׃the camp

    If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:

12. 12

    וְהָיָהand beלִפְנוֹת־עֶרֶבwhen evening comes onיִרְחַץshall washבַּמָּיִםin the waterוּכְבֹאand when goes downהַשֶּׁמֶשׁthe sunיָבֹאshall comeאֶל־תּוֹךְdown intoהַמַּחֲנֶה׃the camp

    But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.

13. 13

    וְיָדand a placeתִּהְיֶהshall beלְךָfor youמִחוּץwithoutלַמַּחֲנֶהthe campוְיָצָאתָand you shall go outשָּׁמָּהthereחוּץ׃abroad

    Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad:

14. 14

    וְיָתֵדand a paddleתִּהְיֶהshall beלְךָfor youעַל־אֲזֵנֶךָupon your weaponוְהָיָהand beבְּשִׁבְתְּךָwhen you sitחוּץabroadוְחָפַרְתָּהand you will digבָהּin itוְשַׁבְתָּand you will returnוְכִסִּיתָand you will coverאֶת־צֵאָתֶךָ׃your excrement

    And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:

15. 15

    כִּיforיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godמִתְהַלֵּךְwalkingבְּקֶרֶבamongמַחֲנֶךָyour campלְהַצִּילְךָto deliver youוְלָתֵתand to giveאֹיְבֶיךָyour enemiesלְפָנֶיךָbefore youוְהָיָהand beמַחֲנֶיךָyour campsקָדוֹשׁholyוְלֹא־יִרְאֶהand shall not seeבְךָin youעֶרְוַתthe nakedness ofדָּבָרthingוְשָׁבand shall returnמֵאַחֲרֶיךָ׃from after you

    For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.

16. 16

    לֹא־תַסְגִּירnot you will deliver upעֶבֶדthe servant ofאֶל־אֲדֹנָיוto his masterאֲשֶׁר־יִנָּצֵלwhich he shall be rescuedאֵלֶיךָto youמֵעִםfromאֲדֹנָיו׃his master

    Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:

17. 17

    עִמְּךָwith youיֵשֵׁבshall dwellבְּקִרְבְּךָin your midstבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeאֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַרthat will selectבְּאַחַדin oneשְׁעָרֶיךָyour gatesבַּטּוֹבthe goodלוֹto himלֹאnotתּוֹנֶנּוּ׃you will maltreat him

    He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.

18. 18

    לֹא־תִהְיֶהnot beקְדֵשָׁהa cult prostituteמִבְּנוֹתof the daughters ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְלֹא־יִהְיֶהand there shall not beקָדֵשׁa cult prostituteמִבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

    There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

19. 19

    לֹא־תָבִיאnot you will bringאֶתְנַןthe price ofזוֹנָהharlotוּמְחִירand the hire ofכֶּלֶבa dogבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלְכׇל־נֶדֶרto all a vowכִּיbecauseתוֹעֲבַתthe abomination ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godגַּם־שְׁנֵיהֶם׃also the two

    Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

20. 20

    לֹא־תַשִּׁיךְnot you will charge interestלְאָחִיךָto your brotherנֶשֶׁךְinterestכֶּסֶףmoneyנֶשֶׁךְinterestאֹכֶלfoodנֶשֶׁךְinterestכׇּל־דָּבָרany thingאֲשֶׁרwhichיִשָּׁךְ׃is lent upon interest

    Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:

21. 21

    לַנׇּכְרִיto a foreignerתַשִּׁיךְyou will charge interestוּלְאָחִיךָand to your countrymanלֹאnotתַשִּׁיךְyou will charge interestלְמַעַןin order thatיְבָרֶכְךָmay bless youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבְּכֹלin allמִשְׁלַחundertaking ofיָדֶךָyour handעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landאֲשֶׁר־אַתָּהwhich youבָא־שָׁמָּהcame thereלְרִשְׁתָּהּ׃to possess it

    Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

22. 22

    כִּי־תִדֹּרwhen you vowנֶדֶרa vowלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלֹאnotתְאַחֵרyou shall delayלְשַׁלְּמוֹto pay itכִּי־דָרֹשׁfor surelyיִדְרְשֶׁנּוּwill require itיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godמֵעִמָּךְfrom with youוְהָיָהand beבְךָin youחֵטְא׃sin

    When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.

23. 23

    וְכִיbut ifתֶחְדַּלyou shall ceaseלִנְדֹּרto vowלֹא־יִהְיֶהthere shall be noבְךָin youחֵטְא׃sin

    But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.

24. 24

    מוֹצָאthat which is gone out ofשְׂפָתֶיךָyour lipsתִּשְׁמֹרyou shall keepוְעָשִׂיתָand doכַּאֲשֶׁרasנָדַרְתָּyou vowedלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godנְדָבָהa freewill offeringאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבַּרְתָּyou have spokenבְּפִיךָ׃in your mouth

    That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.

25. 25

    כִּיwhenתָבֹאcomeבְּכֶרֶםin the vineyard ofרֵעֶךָyour neighborוְאָכַלְתָּand you shall eatעֲנָבִיםgrapesכְּנַפְשְׁךָat your own pleasureשׇׂבְעֶךָyour fillוְאֶל־כֶּלְיְךָand your vesselלֹאnotתִתֵּן׃she will give

    When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.

26. 26

    כִּיwhenתָבֹאcomeבְּקָמַתin the standing grain ofרֵעֶךָyour neighborוְקָטַפְתָּand you will pluck offמְלִילֹתears of cornבְּיָדֶךָinto your handוְחֶרְמֵשׁand a sickleלֹאnotתָנִיףyou shall moveעַלuponקָמַתthe standing grain ofרֵעֶךָ׃your neighbor

    When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn.
