1. 1

   לֹא־תִרְאֶהnot you will seeאֶת־שׁוֹרthe ox ofאָחִיךָyour brotherאוֹorאֶת־שֵׂיוֹhis sheepנִדָּחִיםdriven awayוְהִתְעַלַּמְתָּand you will hide yourselfמֵהֶםof themהָשֵׁבsurelyתְּשִׁיבֵםyou will return themלְאָחִיךָ׃to your brother

   Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.

2. 2

   וְאִם־לֹאand if notקָרוֹבnearאָחִיךָyour brotherאֵלֶיךָto youוְלֹאand notיְדַעְתּוֹyou know himוַאֲסַפְתּוֹand you will gather itאֶל־תּוֹךְdown intoבֵּיתֶךָyour houseוְהָיָהand beעִמְּךָwith youעַדuntilדְּרֹשׁseeksאָחִיךָyour brotherאֹתוֹhimוַהֲשֵׁבֹתוֹand you will return itלוֹ׃to him

   And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.

   וְכֵןand soתַּעֲשֶׂהyou shall doלַחֲמֹרוֹto his donkeyוְכֵןand soתַּעֲשֶׂהyou shall doלְשִׂמְלָתוֹfor his clothingוְכֵןand soתַּעֲשֶׂהyou shall doלְכׇל־אֲבֵדַתto every lost thing ofאָחִיךָyour brotherאֲשֶׁר־תֹּאבַדwhich is lostמִמֶּנּוּfrom himוּמְצָאתָהּand you will find itלֹאnotתוּכַלcanלְהִתְעַלֵּם׃to hide yourself

   In like manner shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou do with his raiment; and with all lost thing of thy brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise: thou mayest not hide thyself.

   לֹא־תִרְאֶהnot you will seeאֶת־חֲמוֹרa donkeyאָחִיךָyour brotherאוֹorשׁוֹרוֹhis oxנֹפְלִיםfallen downבַּדֶּרֶךְin the wayוְהִתְעַלַּמְתָּand you will hide yourselfמֵהֶםof themהָקֵםsurelyתָּקִיםyou will set upעִמּוֹ׃with him

   Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.

   לֹא־יִהְיֶהthere shall not beכְלִי־גֶבֶרthat which pertains to a manעַל־אִשָּׁהupon a womanוְלֹא־יִלְבַּשׁand not shall put onגֶּבֶרa manשִׂמְלַתthe clothing ofאִשָּׁהa womanכִּיforתוֹעֲבַתthe abomination ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godכׇּל־עֹשֵׂהall that doesאֵלֶּה׃these

   The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

6. 6

   כִּיifיִקָּרֵאchance to beקַן־צִפּוֹרa bird's nestלְפָנֶיךָbefore youבַּדֶּרֶךְin the wayבְּכׇל־עֵץin any treeאוֹorעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landאֶפְרֹחִיםyoung onesאוֹorבֵיצִיםeggsוְהָאֵםand the motherרֹבֶצֶתwhich liesעַל־הָאֶפְרֹחִיםupon the young onesאוֹorעַל־הַבֵּיצִיםupon the eggsלֹא־תִקַּחnot you will takeהָאֵםthe motherעַל־הַבָּנִים׃upon the sons

   If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young:

7. 7

   שַׁלֵּחַsurelyתְּשַׁלַּחyou sent forthאֶת־הָאֵםthe motherוְאֶת־הַבָּנִיםand the sonsתִּקַּח־לָךְyou shall take for youלְמַעַןin order thatיִיטַבit shall be wellלָךְto youוְהַאֲרַכְתָּand you will prolongיָמִים׃days

   But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.

8. 8

   כִּיwhenתִבְנֶהyou shall buildבַּיִתhouseחָדָשׁnewוְעָשִׂיתָand doמַעֲקֶהparapetלְגַגֶּךָfor your roofוְלֹא־תָשִׂיםand not you will putדָּמִיםbloodבְּבֵיתֶךָin your houseכִּי־יִפֹּלif shall fallהַנֹּפֵלone who fallsמִמֶּנּוּ׃from it

   When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.

9. 9

   לֹא־תִזְרַעnot you will sowכַּרְמְךָyour vineyardכִּלְאָיִםtwo kindsפֶּן־תִּקְדַּשׁlest be forfeitedהַמְלֵאָהthe fulness ofהַזֶּרַעthe seedאֲשֶׁרwhichתִּזְרָעyou will sowוּתְבוּאַתand the produce ofהַכָּרֶם׃the vineyard

   Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.

10. 10

    לֹא־תַחֲרֹשׁnot you will plowבְּשׁוֹר־וּבַחֲמֹרwith an ox and with a donkeyיַחְדָּו׃together

    Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.

11. 11

    לֹאnotתִלְבַּשׁyou will wearשַׁעַטְנֵזmixed stuffצֶמֶרwoolוּפִשְׁתִּיםand linenיַחְדָּו׃together

    Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.

12. 12

    גְּדִלִיםtasselsתַּעֲשֶׂה־לָּךְyou shall make for yourselfעַל־אַרְבַּעupon fourכַּנְפוֹתcorners ofכְּסוּתְךָyour vestureאֲשֶׁרwhichתְּכַסֶּה־בָּהּ׃you will cover in it

    Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.

13. 13

    כִּי־יִקַּחif take upon himאִישׁa manאִשָּׁהa womanוּבָאand comeאֵלֶיהָto herוּשְׂנֵאָהּ׃and he will hate her

    If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,

14. 14

    וְשָׂםand makesלָהּto herעֲלִילֹתoccasions ofדְּבָרִיםspeechוְהוֹצִאand brings upעָלֶיהָagainst herשֵׁםthe name ofרָעevilוְאָמַרand saidאֶת־הָאִשָּׁהthe womanהַזֹּאתthisלָקַחְתִּיI have takenוָאֶקְרַבand I came nearאֵלֶיהָto herוְלֹא־מָצָאתִיand not I foundלָהּto herבְּתוּלִים׃virginity

    And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid:

15. 15

    וְלָקַחand takeאֲבִיthe father ofהַנַּעֲרָthe young womanוְאִמָּהּand her motherוְהוֹצִיאוּand they will bring outאֶת־בְּתוּלֵיthe virginity ofהַנַּעֲרָthe young womanאֶל־זִקְנֵיto the elders ofהָעִירthe cityהַשָּׁעְרָה׃to the gate

    Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:

16. 16

    וְאָמַרand saidאֲבִיthe father ofהַנַּעֲרָthe young womanאֶל־הַזְּקֵנִיםto the eldersאֶת־בִּתִּיmy daughterנָתַתִּיI gaveלָאִישׁto the manהַזֶּהthisלְאִשָּׁהfor wifeוַיִּשְׂנָאֶהָ׃and he hated her

    And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;

17. 17

    וְהִנֵּה־הוּאand there heשָׂםsetעֲלִילֹתoccasions ofדְּבָרִיםspeechלֵאמֹרsayingלֹא־מָצָאתִיnot I foundלְבִתְּךָto your daughterבְּתוּלִיםvirginityוְאֵלֶּהand theseבְּתוּלֵיthe virginity ofבִתִּיmy daughterוּפָרְשׂוּand they will spread outהַשִּׂמְלָהthe garmentלִפְנֵיbeforeזִקְנֵיthe elders ofהָעִיר׃the city

    And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.

18. 18

    וְלָקְחוּand they will takeזִקְנֵיthe elders ofהָעִיר־הַהִואthe city thatאֶת־הָאִישׁthe manוְיִסְּרוּand they will punishאֹתוֹ׃him

    And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;

19. 19

    וְעָנְשׁוּand they will fineאֹתוֹhimמֵאָהa hundredכֶסֶףshekels of silverוְנָתְנוּand they shall giveלַאֲבִיto the father ofהַנַּעֲרָהthe young womanכִּיbecauseהוֹצִיאhas broughtשֵׁםthe name ofרָעevilעַלuponבְּתוּלַתa virgin ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְלוֹ־תִהְיֶהand unto him beלְאִשָּׁהfor wifeלֹא־יוּכַלnot canלְשַׁלְּחָהּto send herכׇּל־יָמָיו׃all his days

    And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

20. 20

    וְאִם־אֱמֶתand if truthהָיָהwasהַדָּבָרthe thingהַזֶּהthisלֹא־נִמְצְאוּnot they were foundבְתוּלִיםvirginityלַנַּעֲרָ׃the young woman

    But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:

21. 21

    וְהוֹצִיאוּand they will bring outאֶת־הַנַּעֲרָthe young womanאֶל־פֶּתַחto the door ofבֵּית־אָבִיהָhouse of father ofוּסְקָלוּהָand will stone herאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofעִירָהּher cityבָּאֲבָנִיםwith stonesוָמֵתָהand she will dieכִּי־עָשְׂתָהbecause didנְבָלָהfollyבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלִזְנוֹתby acting as prostitutesבֵּיתthe house ofאָבִיהָher fatherוּבִעַרְתָּand you will removeהָרָעthat which is evilמִקִּרְבֶּךָ׃from your midst

    Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

22. 22

    כִּי־יִמָּצֵאif foundאִישׁa manשֹׁכֵבlyingעִם־אִשָּׁהwith a womanבְעֻלַת־בַּעַלmarried to a husbandוּמֵתוּand they will dieגַּם־שְׁנֵיהֶםalso the twoהָאִישׁthe manהַשֹּׁכֵבthe one who layעִם־הָאִשָּׁהwith the womanוְהָאִשָּׁהand the womanוּבִעַרְתָּand you will removeהָרָעthat which is evilמִיִּשְׂרָאֵל׃from Israel

    If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

23. 23

    כִּיifיִהְיֶהshall beנַעֲרָa young womanבְתוּלָהa virginמְאֹרָשָׂהbetrothedלְאִישׁfor a manוּמְצָאָהּand he will find herאִישׁa manבָּעִירin the cityוְשָׁכַבand he will lieעִמָּהּ׃with her

    If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

24. 24

    וְהוֹצֵאתֶםand you will bring outאֶת־שְׁנֵיהֶםthe twoאֶל־שַׁעַרto the gate ofהָעִירthe cityהַהִואthatוּסְקַלְתֶּםand you will stoneאֹתָםthemבָּאֲבָנִיםwith stonesוָמֵתוּand they will dieאֶת־הַנַּעֲרָthe young womanעַל־דְּבַרupon the word ofאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־צָעֲקָהnot she cried for helpבָעִירin the cityוְאֶת־הָאִישׁand the manעַל־דְּבַרupon the word ofאֲשֶׁר־עִנָּהwhich humbledאֶת־אֵשֶׁתthe wife ofרֵעֵהוּhis neighborוּבִעַרְתָּand you will removeהָרָעthat which is evilמִקִּרְבֶּךָ׃from your midst

    Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

25. 25

    וְאִם־בַּשָּׂדֶהand if in the fieldיִמְצָאshall findהָאִישׁthe manאֶת־הַנַּעֲרָthe young womanהַמְאֹרָשָׂהbetrothedוְהֶחֱזִיק־בָּהּand take hold of herהָאִישׁthe manוְשָׁכַבand he will lieעִמָּהּwith herוּמֵתand he will dieהָאִישׁthe manאֲשֶׁר־שָׁכַבwhich would lie downעִמָּהּwith herלְבַדּוֹ׃alone

    But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:

26. 26

    וְלַנַּעֲרָand the young womanלֹא־תַעֲשֶׂהyou shall doדָבָרnothingאֵיןthere is noלַנַּעֲרָthe young womanחֵטְאsinמָוֶתdeathכִּיforכַּאֲשֶׁרasיָקוּםhe shall riseאִישׁa manעַל־רֵעֵהוּagainst his neighborוּרְצָחוֹand he will kill himנֶפֶשׁand slays himכֵּןthusהַדָּבָרthe wordהַזֶּה׃this

    But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:

27. 27

    כִּיforבַשָּׂדֶהin the fieldמְצָאָהּhe found herצָעֲקָהshe cried for helpהַנַּעֲרָthe young womanהַמְאֹרָשָׂהbetrothedוְאֵיןand there is noמוֹשִׁיעַsaviorלָהּ׃to her

    For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

28. 28

    כִּי־יִמְצָאif shall findאִישׁa manנַעֲרָa young womanבְתוּלָהa virginאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־אֹרָשָׂהnot she was betrothedוּתְפָשָׂהּand he will seize herוְשָׁכַבand he will lieעִמָּהּwith herוְנִמְצָאוּ׃and they will be found

    If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

29. 29

    וְנָתַןand he shall giveהָאִישׁthe manהַשֹּׁכֵבthe one who layעִמָּהּwith herלַאֲבִיto the father ofהַנַּעֲרָthe young womanחֲמִשִּׁיםfiftyכָּסֶףsilverוְלוֹ־תִהְיֶהand unto him beלְאִשָּׁהfor wifeתַּחַתunderאֲשֶׁרwhichעִנָּהּhe has humiliated herלֹא־יוּכַלnot canשַׁלְּחָהּto put her awayכׇּל־יָמָיו׃all his days

    Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
