1. 1

   מִקֵּץmik/KETSat the end ofשֶׁבַע־שָׁנִיםSHE/va-sha/NIMseven yearsתַּעֲשֶׂהta/a/SEyou shall makeשְׁמִטָּה׃she/mit/TAa release

   At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.

2. 2

   וְזֶהve/ZEand this isדְּבַרde/VARthe manner ofהַשְּׁמִטָּהhash/she/mit/TAthe releaseשָׁמוֹטsha/MOTshall releaseכׇּל־בַּעַלkol-BA/alevery creditor ofמַשֵּׁהmash/SHEthe loan ofיָדוֹya/DOhis handאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיַשֶּׁהyash/SHEhe has lentבְּרֵעֵהוּbe/re/E/huto his neighborלֹא־יִגֹּשׂlo-yig/GOShe shall not exact it ofאֶת־רֵעֵהוּet-re/E/huhis neighborוְאֶת־אָחִיוve/ET-a/CHIVor of his brotherכִּי־קָרָאki-ka/RAbecause has been proclaimedשְׁמִטָּהshe/mit/TAa releaseלַיהֹוָה׃la-Adonaithe LORD's

   And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD's release.

   אֶת־הַנׇּכְרִיet-han/nokh/RIthe foreignerתִּגֹּשׂtig/GOSyou may exact it ofוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERbut whatיִהְיֶהyih/YEisלְךָle/KHAyoursאֶת־אָחִיךָet-a/CHI/khawith your brotherתַּשְׁמֵטtash/METshall releaseיָדֶךָ׃ya/DE/khayour hand

   Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;

   אֶפֶסE/fessaveכִּיkithatלֹאlonoיִהְיֶה־בְּךָyih/YE-be/KHAthere shall be among youאֶבְיוֹןev/YONpoorכִּי־בָרֵךְki-va/REKHfor blessיְבָרֶכְךָye/va/rekh/KHAwill bless youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godנֹתֵן־לְךָno/TEN-le/KHAis giving youנַחֲלָהna/cha/LAfor an inheritanceלְרִשְׁתָּהּ׃le/rish/TAto possess it

   Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the LORD shall greatly bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:

   רַקrakonlyאִם־שָׁמוֹעַim-sha/MO/aif hearkenתִּשְׁמַעtish/MAyou hearkenבְּקוֹלbe/KOLto the voice ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto observeלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doאֶת־כׇּל־הַמִּצְוָהet-kol-ham/mits/VAall the commandmentהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמְצַוְּךָme/tsav/ve/KHAcommand youהַיּוֹם׃hay/YOMthis day

   Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.

   כִּי־יְהֹוָהki-Adonaifor the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godבֵּרַכְךָbe/rakh/KHAblesses youכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasדִּבֶּר־לָךְdib/BER-lakhHe promised youוְהַעֲבַטְתָּve/ha/a/vat/TAand you shall lend toגּוֹיִםgo/YIMnationsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוְאַתָּהve/at/TAbut youלֹאlonotתַעֲבֹטta/a/VOTshall borrowוּמָשַׁלְתָּu/ma/SHAL/taand you shall reignבְּגוֹיִםbe/go/YIMover nationsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוּבְךָu/ve/KHAbut over youלֹאlonotיִמְשֹׁלוּ׃yim/SHO/lushall they reign

   For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.

   כִּי־יִהְיֶהki-yih/YEif there isבְךָve/KHAamong youאֶבְיוֹןev/YONa poor manמֵאַחַדme/a/CHADany one ofאַחֶיךָa/CHE/khayour brothersבְּאַחַדbe/a/CHADwithin any ofשְׁעָרֶיךָshe/a/RE/khayour gatesבְּאַרְצְךָbe/ar/tse/KHAin your landאֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָהa/SHER-Adonaiwhich the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godנֹתֵןno/TENis givingלָךְlakhto youלֹאlonotתְאַמֵּץte/am/METSshall you hardenאֶת־לְבָבְךָet-le/va/ve/KHAyour heartוְלֹאve/LOnorתִקְפֹּץtik/POTSshutאֶת־יָדְךָet-ya/de/KHAyour handמֵאָחִיךָme/a/CHI/khafrom your brotherהָאֶבְיוֹן׃ha/ev/YONpoor

   If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

8. 8

   כִּי־פָתֹחַki-fa/TO/achbut openתִּפְתַּחtif/TACHyou shall openאֶת־יָדְךָet-ya/de/KHAyour handלוֹloto himוְהַעֲבֵטve/ha/a/VETand lendתַּעֲבִיטֶנּוּta/a/vi/TEN/nuyou shall lend himדֵּיdesufficient forמַחְסֹרוֹmach/so/ROhis needאֲשֶׁרa/SHERin whatיֶחְסַרyech/SARis lackingלוֹ׃loto him

   But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.

   הִשָּׁמֶרhish/SHA/mertake heedלְךָle/KHAto yourselfפֶּן־יִהְיֶהpen-yih/YEthat there be notדָבָרda/VARa thoughtעִם־לְבָבְךָim-le/va/ve/KHAin your heartבְלִיַּעַלve/liy/YA/albaseלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingקׇרְבָהkor/VAis at handשְׁנַת־הַשֶּׁבַעshe/NAT-hash/SHE/vathe seventh yearשְׁנַתshe/NATyear ofהַשְּׁמִטָּהhash/she/mit/TAthe releaseוְרָעָהve/ra/Aand be evilעֵינְךָe/ne/KHAyour eyeבְּאָחִיךָbe/a/CHI/khaagainst your brotherהָאֶבְיוֹןha/ev/YONthe needyוְלֹאve/LOand notתִתֵּןtit/TENyou giveלוֹloto himוְקָרָאve/ka/RAand he cryעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaagainst youאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it beבְךָve/KHAin youחֵטְא׃chetsin

   Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

    נָתוֹןna/TONgiveתִּתֵּןtit/TENyou shall giveלוֹloto himוְלֹא־יֵרַעve/LO-ye/RAand shall not be grievedלְבָבְךָle/va/ve/KHAyour heartבְּתִתְּךָbe/tit/te/KHAwhen you giveלוֹloto himכִּיkiforבִּגְלַלbig/LALbecause ofהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisיְבָרֶכְךָye/va/rekh/KHAwill bless youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godבְּכׇל־מַעֲשֶׂךָbe/KHOL-ma/a/SE/khain all your workוּבְכֹלu/ve/KHOLand in allמִשְׁלַחmish/LACHthat you putיָדֶךָ׃ya/DE/khayour hand to

    Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

11. 11

    כִּיkiforלֹא־יֶחְדַּלlo-yech/DALshall never ceaseאֶבְיוֹןev/YONthe poorמִקֶּרֶבmik/KE/revout ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמְצַוְּךָme/tsav/ve/KHAcommand youלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingפָּתֹחַpa/TO/achopenתִּפְתַּחtif/TACHyou shall openאֶת־יָדְךָet-ya/de/KHAyour handלְאָחִיךָle/a/CHI/khato your brotherלַעֲנִיֶּךָla/a/niy/YE/khato your poorוּלְאֶבְיֹנְךָu/le/ev/yon/KHAand to your needyבְּאַרְצֶךָ׃be/ar/TSE/khain your land

    For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

12. 12

    כִּי־יִמָּכֵרki-yim/ma/KHERif is soldלְךָle/KHAto youאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherהָעִבְרִיha/Iv/RIthe Hebrewאוֹoorהָעִבְרִיָּהha/Iv/riy/YAa Hebrew womanוַעֲבָדְךָva/a/va/de/KHAand serves youשֵׁשׁsheshsixשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוּבַשָּׁנָהu/vash/sha/NAand in the yearהַשְּׁבִיעִתhash/she/vi/ITthe seventhתְּשַׁלְּחֶנּוּte/shal/le/CHEN/nuyou shall let him goחׇפְשִׁיchof/SHIfreeמֵעִמָּךְ׃me/im/MAKHfrom you

    And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

13. 13

    וְכִי־תְשַׁלְּחֶנּוּve/KHI-te/shal/le/CHEN/nuand when you send him awayחׇפְשִׁיchof/SHIfreeמֵעִמָּךְme/im/MAKHfrom youלֹאlonotתְשַׁלְּחֶנּוּte/shal/le/CHEN/nushall you let him goרֵיקָם׃re/KAMempty

    And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:

14. 14

    הַעֲנֵיקha/a/NEKfurnishתַּעֲנִיקta/a/NIKyou shall furnishלוֹloto himמִצֹּאנְךָmits/tso/ne/KHAout of your flockוּמִגׇּרְנְךָu/mig/gor/ne/KHAand out of your threshing floorוּמִיִּקְבֶךָu/miy/yik/VE/khaand out of your winepressאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwith whichבֵּרַכְךָbe/rakh/KHAhas blessed youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godתִּתֶּן־לוֹ׃tit/TEN-loyou shall give him

    Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.

15. 15

    וְזָכַרְתָּve/za/khar/TAand you shall rememberכִּיkithatעֶבֶדE/veda slaveהָיִיתָha/YI/tayou wereבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptוַיִּפְדְּךָvay/yif/de/KHAand redeemed youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמְצַוְּךָme/tsav/ve/KHAcommand youאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהַיּוֹם׃hay/YOMthis day

    And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.

16. 16

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכִּי־יֹאמַרki-yo/MARif he saysאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youלֹאlonotאֵצֵאe/TSEI will go outמֵעִמָּךְme/im/MAKHfrom youכִּיkibecauseאֲהֵבְךָa/hev/KHAhe loves youוְאֶת־בֵּיתֶךָve/ET-be/TE/khaand your houseכִּי־טוֹבki-tovbecause it is wellלוֹlowith himעִמָּךְ׃im/MAKHwith you

    And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;

17. 17

    וְלָקַחְתָּve/la/kach/TAthen you shall takeאֶת־הַמַּרְצֵעַet-ham/mar/TSE/athe awlוְנָתַתָּהve/na/tat/TAand thrust itבְאׇזְנוֹve/oz/NOthrough his earוּבַדֶּלֶתu/vad/DE/letinto the doorוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand he shall beלְךָle/KHAyourעֶבֶדE/veda servantעוֹלָםo/LAMfor everוְאַףve/AFand alsoלַאֲמָתְךָla/a/ma/te/KHAto your maidservantתַּעֲשֶׂה־כֵּן׃ta/a/SE-kenyou shall do likewise

    Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.

18. 18

    לֹא־יִקְשֶׁהlo-yik/SHEit shall not seem hardבְעֵינֶךָve/e/NE/khain your eyesבְּשַׁלֵּחֲךָbe/shal/le/cha/KHAwhen you send awayאֹתוֹo/TOhimחׇפְשִׁיchof/SHIfreeמֵעִמָּךְme/im/MAKHfrom youכִּיkiforמִשְׁנֶהmish/NEworth doubleשְׂכַרse/KHARthe hire ofשָׂכִירsa/KHIRa hired servantעֲבָדְךָa/va/de/KHAhe has served youשֵׁשׁsheshsixשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוּבֵרַכְךָu/ve/rakh/KHAand will bless youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godבְּכֹלbe/KHOLin allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתַּעֲשֶׂה׃ta/a/SEyou do

    It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

19. 19

    כׇּל־הַבְּכוֹרkol-hab/be/KHORevery firstbornאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִוָּלֵדyiv/va/LEDis bornבִּבְקָרְךָbiv/ka/re/KHAin your herdוּבְצֹאנְךָu/ve/tso/ne/KHAand in your flockהַזָּכָרhaz/za/KHARthe maleתַּקְדִּישׁtak/DISHyou shall sanctifyלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godלֹאlonotתַעֲבֹדta/a/VODshall you do workבִּבְכֹרbiv/KHORwith the firstborn ofשׁוֹרֶךָsho/RE/khayour oxוְלֹאve/LOnorתָגֹזta/GOZyou will shearבְּכוֹרbe/KHORthe firstborn ofצֹאנֶךָ׃tso/NE/khayour flock

    All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep.

20. 20

    לִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godתֹאכְלֶנּוּto/khe/LEN/nuyou shall eat itשָׁנָהsha/NAyearבְשָׁנָהve/sha/NAby yearבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeאֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַרa/SHER-yiv/CHARwhich shall chooseיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאַתָּהat/TAyouוּבֵיתֶךָ׃u/ve/TE/khaand your household

    Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD shall choose, thou and thy household.

21. 21

    וְכִי־יִהְיֶהve/KHI-yih/YEand if there isבוֹvoin itמוּםmumany blemishפִּסֵּחַpis/SE/achlameאוֹoorעִוֵּרiv/VERblindכֹּלkolanyמוּםmumblemishרָעraevilלֹאlonotתִזְבָּחֶנּוּtiz/ba/CHEN/nushall you sacrifice itלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָ׃e/lo/HE/khayour God

    And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God.

22. 22

    בִּשְׁעָרֶיךָbish/a/RE/khawithin your gatesתֹּאכְלֶנּוּto/khe/LEN/nuyou shall eat itהַטָּמֵאhat/ta/MEthe uncleanוְהַטָּהוֹרve/hat/ta/HORand the cleanיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherכַּצְּבִיkats/tse/VIas the gazelleוְכָאַיָּל׃ve/kha/ay/YALand as the deer

    Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart.

23. 23

    רַקrakonlyאֶת־דָּמוֹet-da/MOits bloodלֹאlonotתֹאכֵלto/KHELshall you eatעַל־הָאָרֶץal-ha/A/retson the groundתִּשְׁפְּכֶנּוּtish/pe/KHEN/nuyou shall pour it outכַּמָּיִם׃kam/MA/yimas water

    Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
