    מִקֵּץat the end ofשֶׁבַע־שָׁנִיםseven yearsתַּעֲשֶׂהyou makeשְׁמִטָּה׃a remission

    At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.

    וְזֶהand thisדְּבַרthe word ofהַשְּׁמִטָּהthe remissionשָׁמוֹטreleaseכׇּל־בַּעַלevery master ofמַשֵּׁהthat which he lendsיָדוֹhis handאֲשֶׁרwhichיַשֶּׁהhe will lendבְּרֵעֵהוּto his neighborלֹא־יִגֹּשׂnot he will pressאֶת־רֵעֵהוּhis neighborוְאֶת־אָחִיוand his brotherכִּי־קָרָאbecause is proclaimedשְׁמִטָּהa remissionלַיהֹוָה׃to the LORD

    And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD's release.

    אֶת־הַנׇּכְרִיthe foreignerתִּגֹּשׂyou will pressוַאֲשֶׁרand that whichיִהְיֶהshall beלְךָfor youאֶת־אָחִיךָyour brotherתַּשְׁמֵטshall releaseיָדֶךָ׃your hand

    Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;

    אֶפֶסexceptכִּיwhenלֹאnotיִהְיֶה־בְּךָthere shall be in youאֶבְיוֹןa needy personכִּי־בָרֵךְfor surelyיְבָרֶכְךָmay bless youיְהֹוָהthe LORDבָּאָרֶץin the landאֲשֶׁרwhichיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godנֹתֵן־לְךָgiving for youנַחֲלָהinheritanceלְרִשְׁתָּהּ׃to possess it

    Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the LORD shall greatly bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:

    רַקonlyאִם־שָׁמוֹעַif diligentlyתִּשְׁמַעyou hearבְּקוֹלthe voice ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלִשְׁמֹרto keepלַעֲשׂוֹתto doאֶת־כׇּל־הַמִּצְוָהall the commandmentהַזֹּאתthisאֲשֶׁרwhichאָנֹכִיIמְצַוְּךָam commanding youהַיּוֹם׃the day

    Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.

    כִּי־יְהֹוָהfor the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבֵּרַכְךָhe has blessed youכַּאֲשֶׁרasדִּבֶּר־לָךְspoke for youוְהַעֲבַטְתָּand you shall lendגּוֹיִםnationsרַבִּיםmanyוְאַתָּהand youלֹאnotתַעֲבֹטyou will borrowוּמָשַׁלְתָּand you will ruleבְּגוֹיִםupon nationsרַבִּיםmanyוּבְךָand over youלֹאnotיִמְשֹׁלוּ׃they will rule

    For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.

    כִּי־יִהְיֶהif he shall beבְךָin youאֶבְיוֹןa needy personמֵאַחַדany one ofאַחֶיךָyour brothersבְּאַחַדin oneשְׁעָרֶיךָyour gatesבְּאַרְצְךָin your landאֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָהwhich the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godנֹתֵןgivingלָךְto youלֹאnotתְאַמֵּץyou will hardenאֶת־לְבָבְךָyour heartוְלֹאand notתִקְפֹּץyou will shutאֶת־יָדְךָyour handמֵאָחִיךָfrom your brotherהָאֶבְיוֹן׃the needy

    If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

    כִּי־פָתֹחַbut surelyתִּפְתַּחyou openאֶת־יָדְךָyour handלוֹto himוְהַעֲבֵטand certainlyתַּעֲבִיטֶנּוּyou will lend to himדֵּיsufficient forמַחְסֹרוֹhis lackאֲשֶׁרwhichיֶחְסַרfailלוֹ׃to him

    But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.

    הִשָּׁמֶרtake heedלְךָfor youפֶּן־יִהְיֶהlest he shall beדָבָרa thoughtעִם־לְבָבְךָwith your heartבְלִיַּעַלbaseלֵאמֹרsayingקׇרְבָהdrew nearשְׁנַת־הַשֶּׁבַעthe seventh yearשְׁנַתyear ofהַשְּׁמִטָּהthe remissionוְרָעָהand evilעֵינְךָyour eyeבְּאָחִיךָagainst your brotherהָאֶבְיוֹןthe needyוְלֹאand notתִתֵּןshe will giveלוֹto himוְקָרָאand he cryעָלֶיךָupon youאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDוְהָיָהand beבְךָto youחֵטְא׃sin

    Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

    נָתוֹןsurelyתִּתֵּןyou shall giveלוֹto himוְלֹא־יֵרַעand shall not be grievedלְבָבְךָyour heartבְּתִתְּךָwhen you giveלוֹto himכִּיbecauseבִּגְלַלon account ofהַדָּבָרthe thingהַזֶּהthisיְבָרֶכְךָmay bless youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבְּכׇל־מַעֲשֶׂךָin all your workוּבְכֹלand in allמִשְׁלַחundertaking ofיָדֶךָ׃your hand

    Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

    כִּיforלֹא־יֶחְדַּלnot he ceasesאֶבְיוֹןa needy personמִקֶּרֶבfrom the midst ofהָאָרֶץthe landעַל־כֵּןthereforeאָנֹכִיIמְצַוְּךָam commanding youלֵאמֹרsayingפָּתֹחַsurelyתִּפְתַּחyou openאֶת־יָדְךָyour handלְאָחִיךָto your brotherלַעֲנִיֶּךָto your poorוּלְאֶבְיֹנְךָand to your needy personבְּאַרְצֶךָ׃in your land

    For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

    כִּי־יִמָּכֵרif it will be soldלְךָfor youאָחִיךָyour brotherהָעִבְרִיthe Hebrewאוֹorהָעִבְרִיָּהthe Hebrew womanוַעֲבָדְךָand he will serve youשֵׁשׁsixשָׁנִיםyearsוּבַשָּׁנָהand in the yearהַשְּׁבִיעִתthe seventhתְּשַׁלְּחֶנּוּyou will let go himחׇפְשִׁיfreeמֵעִמָּךְ׃from with you

    And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

    וְכִי־תְשַׁלְּחֶנּוּand when you send him awayחׇפְשִׁיfreeמֵעִמָּךְfrom with youלֹאnotתְשַׁלְּחֶנּוּyou will let go himרֵיקָם׃empty handed

    And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:

  14. 14

    הַעֲנֵיקsurelyתַּעֲנִיקyou will provideלוֹto himמִצֹּאנְךָfrom your flockוּמִגׇּרְנְךָand from your threshing floorוּמִיִּקְבֶךָand from your wine pressאֲשֶׁרwhichבֵּרַכְךָhas blessed youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godתִּתֶּן־לוֹ׃you shall give him

    Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.

  15. 15

    וְזָכַרְתָּand you shall rememberכִּיthatעֶבֶדa servantהָיִיתָyou wereבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptוַיִּפְדְּךָand redeemed youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godעַל־כֵּןthereforeאָנֹכִיIמְצַוְּךָam commanding youאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe thingהַזֶּהthisהַיּוֹם׃the day

    And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.

  16. 16

    וְהָיָהand beכִּי־יֹאמַרif he saysאֵלֶיךָto youלֹאnotאֵצֵאI go forthמֵעִמָּךְfrom with youכִּיbecauseאֲהֵבְךָhe loves youוְאֶת־בֵּיתֶךָand your houseכִּי־טוֹבthat it is wellלוֹto himעִמָּךְ׃with you

    And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;

  17. 17

    וְלָקַחְתָּand you will takeאֶת־הַמַּרְצֵעַthe awlוְנָתַתָּהand you shall giveבְאׇזְנוֹin his earוּבַדֶּלֶתand in the doorוְהָיָהand beלְךָfor youעֶבֶדa servantעוֹלָםforeverוְאַףand moreoverלַאֲמָתְךָto your maidservantתַּעֲשֶׂה־כֵּן׃you make thus

    Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.

  18. 18

    לֹא־יִקְשֶׁהnot it will be too hardבְעֵינֶךָin your eyesבְּשַׁלֵּחֲךָwhen you let goאֹתוֹhimחׇפְשִׁיfreeמֵעִמָּךְfrom with youכִּיforמִשְׁנֶהdoubleשְׂכַרthe hire ofשָׂכִירa hired workerעֲבָדְךָhe has served youשֵׁשׁsixשָׁנִיםyearsוּבֵרַכְךָand will bless youיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godבְּכֹלin allאֲשֶׁרwhichתַּעֲשֶׂה׃you make

    It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

  19. 19

    כׇּל־הַבְּכוֹרall the firstbornאֲשֶׁרwhichיִוָּלֵדhe shall be bornבִּבְקָרְךָin your herdוּבְצֹאנְךָand in your flockהַזָּכָרthe maleתַּקְדִּישׁyou will consecrateלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלֹאnotתַעֲבֹדyou shall work withבִּבְכֹרby the firstborn ofשׁוֹרֶךָyour oxenוְלֹאand notתָגֹזyou will shearבְּכוֹרthe firstborn ofצֹאנֶךָ׃your flock

    All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep.

  20. 20

    לִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godתֹאכְלֶנּוּyou shall eat itשָׁנָהyearבְשָׁנָהto yearבַּמָּקוֹםin the placeאֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַרthat will selectיְהֹוָהthe LORDאַתָּהyouוּבֵיתֶךָ׃and your household

    Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD shall choose, thou and thy household.

  21. 21

    וְכִי־יִהְיֶהand if there beבוֹin itמוּםblemishפִּסֵּחַlameאוֹorעִוֵּרblindכֹּלallמוּםblemishרָעbadלֹאnotתִזְבָּחֶנּוּyou will sacrifice itלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָ׃your God

    And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God.

  22. 22

    בִּשְׁעָרֶיךָwithin your gatesתֹּאכְלֶנּוּyou will eat itהַטָּמֵאthe uncleanוְהַטָּהוֹרand the cleanיַחְדָּוtogetherכַּצְּבִיlike the deerוְכָאַיָּל׃and like the gazelle

    Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart.

  23. 23

    רַקonlyאֶת־דָּמוֹhis bloodלֹאnotתֹאכֵלyou shall eatעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landתִּשְׁפְּכֶנּוּyou will pour out itכַּמָּיִם׃like the water

    Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
