Daniel 6 דָּנִיֵּאל פרק ו׳

1. 1

   וְדָרְיָוֶשׁand Darius[מָדָאָה]the Medianקַבֵּלreceivedמַלְכוּתָאthe kingdomכְּבַרaboutשְׁנִיןyearsשִׁתִּיןsixtyוְתַרְתֵּין׃and two

   And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

2. 2

   שְׁפַרit seemed goodקֳדָםbeforeדָּרְיָוֶשׁDariusוַהֲקִיםand he appointedעַל־מַלְכוּתָאupon the kingdomלַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּאthe satrapsמְאָהhundredוְעֶשְׂרִיןand twentyדִּיwhichלֶהֱוֺןthey shall beבְּכׇל־מַלְכוּתָא׃in all the kingdom

   It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;

3. 3

   וְעֵלָּאand aboveמִנְּהוֹןfrom themסָרְכִיןoverseersתְּלָתָהthreeדִּיwhichדָנִיֵּאלDanielחַד־מִנְּהוֹןone from themדִּי־לֶהֱוֺןwhich should beאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּאthe satrapsאִלֵּיןtheseיָהֲבִיןgivingלְהוֹןto themטַעְמָאthe decreeוּמַלְכָּאand the kingלָא־לֶהֱוֵאthat not beנָזִק׃suffering injury

   And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

4. 4

   אֱדַיִןthenדָּנִיֵּאלDanielדְּנָהthisהֲוָאit wasמִתְנַצַּחdistinguishing himselfעַל־סָרְכַיָּאupon the overseersוַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּאand the satrapsכׇּל־קֳבֵלall becauseדִּיwhichרוּחַthe spirit ofיַתִּירָאexcellentבֵּהּat itוּמַלְכָּאand the kingעֲשִׁיתwas planningלַהֲקָמוּתֵהּto appoint himעַל־כׇּל־מַלְכוּתָא׃upon all the kingdom

   Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

   אֱדַיִןthenסָרְכַיָּאthe overseersוַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּאand the satrapsהֲווֹthey wereבָעַיִןseekingעִלָּהan occasionלְהַשְׁכָּחָהto findלְדָנִיֵּאלto Danielמִצַּדconcerningמַלְכוּתָאthe kingdomוְכׇל־עִלָּהand all an occasionוּשְׁחִיתָהand corruptלָא־יָכְלִיןnot are being ableלְהַשְׁכָּחָהto findכׇּל־קֳבֵלall becauseדִּי־מְהֵימַןwhich was trustworthyהוּאheוְכׇל־שָׁלוּand any errorוּשְׁחִיתָהand corruptלָאnotהִשְׁתְּכַחַתit was foundעֲלוֹהִי׃to him

   Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

6. 6

   אֱדַיִןthenגֻּבְרַיָּאthe menאִלֵּךְtheseאָמְרִיןthey were sayingדִּיwhichלָאnotנְהַשְׁכַּחwe will findלְדָנִיֵּאלto Danielדְּנָהthisכׇּל־עִלָּהall an occasionלָהֵןbutהַשְׁכַּחְנָאwe shall findעֲלוֹהִיto himבְּדָתin the law ofאֱלָהֵהּ׃his God

   Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

7. 7

   אֱדַיִןthenסָרְכַיָּאthe overseersוַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּאand the satrapsאִלֵּןtheseהַרְגִּשׁוּthey came as a crowdעַל־מַלְכָּאupon the kingוְכֵןand soאָמְרִיןthey were sayingלֵהּto himדָּרְיָוֶשׁDariusמַלְכָּאthe kingלְעָלְמִיןfor everחֱיִי׃live

   Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

8. 8

   אִתְיָעַטוּthey took counsel togetherכֹּלallסָרְכֵיthe overseers ofמַלְכוּתָאthe kingdomסִגְנַיָּאthe prefectsוַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּאand the satrapsהַדָּבְרַיָּאthe counselorsוּפַחֲוָתָאand the governorsלְקַיָּמָהto establishקְיָםthe statute ofמַלְכָּאthe kingוּלְתַקָּפָהand to make stringentאֱסָרa prohibitionדִּיwhichכׇל־דִּי־יִבְעֵאwhosoever shall askבָעוּa petitionמִן־כׇּל־אֱלָהּof any godוֶאֱנָשׁand personעַד־יוֹמִיןuntil daysתְּלָתִיןthirtyלָהֵןbutמִנָּךְfrom youמַלְכָּאthe kingיִתְרְמֵאhe will be thrownלְגֹבto the den ofאַרְיָוָתָא׃the lions

   All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

9. 9

   כְּעַןnowמַלְכָּאthe kingתְּקִיםyou will establishאֱסָרָאthe prohibitionוְתִרְשֻׁםso you may signכְּתָבָאthe writingדִּיwhichלָאnotלְהַשְׁנָיָהto violateכְּדָת־מָדַיaccording to the law of the Medesוּפָרַסand the Persiansדִּי־לָאwhich notתֶעְדֵּא׃it will pass away

   Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

10. 10

    כׇּל־קֳבֵלall becauseדְּנָהthisמַלְכָּאthe kingדָּרְיָוֶשׁDariusרְשַׁםhe signedכְּתָבָאthe writingוֶאֱסָרָא׃and the prohibition

    Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

11. 11

    וְדָנִיֵּאלand Danielכְּדִיwhenיְדַעknowדִּי־רְשִׁיםwhich it was inscribedכְּתָבָאthe writingעַלwentלְבַיְתֵהּto his houseוְכַוִּיןand the windowsפְּתִיחָןwere openedלֵהּto himבְּעִלִּיתֵהּin his upper roomנֶגֶדagainstיְרוּשְׁלֶםJerusalemוְזִמְנִיןand timesתְּלָתָהthreeבְיוֹמָאin the dayהוּאheבָּרֵךְblessעַל־בִּרְכוֹהִיupon his kneesוּמְצַלֵּאand was prayingוּמוֹדֵאand was praisingקֳדָםbeforeאֱלָהֵהּhis Godכׇּל־קֳבֵלall becauseדִּי־הֲוָאwhich it wasעָבֵדdoingמִן־קַדְמַתfrom the former time ofדְּנָה׃this

    Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

12. 12

    אֱדַיִןthenגֻּבְרַיָּאthe menאִלֵּךְtheseהַרְגִּשׁוּthey came as a crowdוְהַשְׁכַּחוּand they foundלְדָנִיֵּאלto Danielבָּעֵהhe askedוּמִתְחַנַּןand imploring favorקֳדָםbeforeאֱלָהֵהּ׃his God

    Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

13. 13

    בֵּאדַיִןthenקְרִבוּthey approachedוְאָמְרִיןand they were sayingקֳדָם־מַלְכָּאbefore the kingעַל־אֱסָרupon a prohibitionמַלְכָּאthe kingהֲלָאis it notאֱסָרa prohibitionרְשַׁמְתָּdid you signדִּיwhichכׇל־אֱנָשׁall the man ofדִּי־יִבְעֵאwhich shall askמִן־כׇּל־אֱלָהּof any godוֶאֱנָשׁand personעַד־יוֹמִיןuntil daysתְּלָתִיןthirtyלָהֵןbutמִנָּךְfrom youמַלְכָּאthe kingיִתְרְמֵאhe will be thrownלְגוֹבto the den ofאַרְיָוָתָאthe lionsעָנֵהwas replyingמַלְכָּאthe kingוְאָמַרand saidיַצִּיבָאcertainמִלְּתָאthe wordכְּדָת־מָדַיaccording to the law of the Medesוּפָרַסand the Persiansדִּי־לָאwhich notתֶעְדֵּא׃it will pass away

    Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

14. 14

    בֵּאדַיִןthenעֲנוֹthey repliedוְאָמְרִיןand they were sayingקֳדָםbeforeמַלְכָּאthe kingדִּיwhichדָנִיֵּאלDanielדִּיwhichמִן־בְּנֵיfrom the sons ofגָלוּתָאthe exileדִּיwhichיְהוּדJudahלָא־שָׂםnot set(עליך)[עֲלָךְ]upon youמַלְכָּאthe kingטְעֵםcommandוְעַל־אֱסָרָאand upon the prohibitionדִּיwhichרְשַׁמְתָּdid you signוְזִמְנִיןand timesתְּלָתָהthreeבְּיוֹמָאin the dayבָּעֵאaskingבָּעוּתֵהּ׃his petition

    Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

15. 15

    אֱדַיִןthenמַלְכָּאthe kingכְּדִיwhenמִלְּתָאthe wordשְׁמַעhearkenשַׂגִּיאis exaltedבְּאֵשׁit was displeasingעֲלוֹהִיto himוְעַלand uponדָּנִיֵּאלDanielשָׂםsetבָּלhis mindלְשֵׁיזָבוּתֵהּto deliver himוְעַדand untoמֶעָלֵיthe goings in ofשִׁמְשָׁאthe sunהֲוָאit wasמִשְׁתַּדַּרstrivingלְהַצָּלוּתֵהּ׃to rescue him

    Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

16. 16

    בֵּאדַיִןthenגֻּבְרַיָּאthe menאִלֵּךְtheseהַרְגִּשׁוּthey came as a crowdעַל־מַלְכָּאupon the kingוְאָמְרִיןand they were sayingלְמַלְכָּאto the kingדַּעknowמַלְכָּאthe kingדִּי־דָתwhich the lawלְמָדַיof the Medesוּפָרַסand the Persiansדִּי־כׇל־אֱסָרwhich all a prohibitionוּקְיָםand statuteדִּי־מַלְכָּאwhich the kingיְהָקֵיםhe will appointלָאnotלְהַשְׁנָיָה׃to violate

    Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

17. 17

    בֵּאדַיִןthenמַלְכָּאthe kingאֲמַרsaidוְהַיְתִיוand they broughtלְדָנִיֵּאלto Danielוּרְמוֹand they threw himלְגֻבָּאto the denדִּיwhichאַרְיָוָתָאthe lionsעָנֵהwas replyingמַלְכָּאthe kingוְאָמַרand saidלְדָנִיֵּאלto Danielאֱלָהָךְyour Godדִּיwhich(אנתה)[אַנְתְּ]youפָּלַח־לֵהּare paying reverence to himבִּתְדִירָאin continuanceהוּאheיְשֵׁיזְבִנָּךְ׃may he deliver you

    Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

18. 18

    וְהֵיתָיִתand it was broughtאֶבֶןstoneחֲדָהoneוְשֻׂמַתand it was setעַל־פֻּםupon the mouth ofגֻּבָּאthe denוְחַתְמַהּand sealed itמַלְכָּאthe kingבְּעִזְקְתֵהּwith his signet ringוּבְעִזְקָתand with the signet rings ofרַבְרְבָנוֹהִיhis noblesדִּיwhichלָא־תִשְׁנֵאnot it will changeצְבוּanythingבְּדָנִיֵּאל׃in Daniel

    And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

19. 19

    אֱדַיִןthenאֲזַלwentמַלְכָּאthe kingלְהֵיכְלֵהּto his palaceוּבָתand he passed the nightטְוָתfastingוְדַחֲוָןand instruments of musicלָא־הַנְעֵלnot he brought inקׇדָמוֹהִיbefore himוְשִׁנְתֵּהּand his sleepנַדַּתit fledעֲלוֹהִי׃to him

    Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.

20. 20

    בֵּאדַיִןthenמַלְכָּאthe kingבִּשְׁפַּרְפָּרָאat dawnיְקוּםhe aroseבְּנׇגְהָאat the daylightוּבְהִתְבְּהָלָהand in hasteלְגֻבָּאto the denדִי־אַרְיָוָתָאof the lionsאֲזַל׃he went

    Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

21. 21

    וּכְמִקְרְבֵהּand when he came nearלְגֻבָּאto the denלְדָנִיֵּאלto Danielבְּקָלwith a voiceעֲצִיבpainedזְעִקhe cried outעָנֵהwas replyingמַלְכָּאthe kingוְאָמַרand saidלְדָנִיֵּאלto DanielדָּנִיֵּאלDanielעֲבֵדservant ofאֱלָהָאGodחַיָּאlivingאֱלָהָךְyour Godדִּיwhich(אנתה)[אַנְתְּ]youפָּלַח־לֵהּare paying reverence to himבִּתְדִירָאin continuanceהַיְכִלwas he ableלְשֵׁיזָבוּתָךְto deliver youמִן־אַרְיָוָתָא׃from the lions

    And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

22. 22

    אֱדַיִןthenדָּנִיֵּאלDanielעִם־מַלְכָּאwith the kingמַלִּלspokeמַלְכָּאthe kingלְעָלְמִיןfor everחֱיִי׃live

    Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

23. 23

    אֱלָהִיmy godשְׁלַחsendמַלְאֲכֵהּhis angelוּסְגַרand he closedפֻּםthe mouth ofאַרְיָוָתָאthe lionsוְלָאand notחַבְּלוּנִיthey harmed meכׇּל־קֳבֵלall becauseדִּיwhichקׇדָמוֹהִיbefore himזָכוּinnocencyהִשְׁתְּכַחַתit was foundלִיto meוְאַףand moreover[קׇדָמָךְ]before youמַלְכָּאthe kingחֲבוּלָהa hurtful actלָאnotעַבְדֵת׃I have made

    My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

24. 24

    בֵּאדַיִןthenמַלְכָּאthe kingשַׂגִּיאis exaltedטְאֵבit was goodעֲלוֹהִיto himוּלְדָנִיֵּאלand to Danielאֲמַרsaidלְהַנְסָקָהto take upמִן־גֻּבָּאfrom the denוְהֻסַּקand he was taken upדָּנִיֵּאלDanielמִן־גֻּבָּאfrom the denוְכׇל־חֲבָלand all hurtלָא־הִשְׁתְּכַחnot it was foundבֵּהּat itדִּיwhichהֵימִןhe had trustedבֵּאלָהֵהּ׃in his God

    Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

25. 25

    וַאֲמַרand saidמַלְכָּאthe kingוְהַיְתִיוand they broughtגֻּבְרַיָּאthe menאִלֵּךְtheseדִּי־אֲכַלוּwhich they had eatenקַרְצוֹהִיwho accused himדִּיwhichדָנִיֵּאלDanielוּלְגוֹבand to the den ofאַרְיָוָתָאthe lionsרְמוֹthey threwאִנּוּןare theyבְּנֵיהוֹןtheir sonsוּנְשֵׁיהוֹןand their wivesוְלָא־מְטוֹand not they reachedלְאַרְעִיתto the bottom ofגֻּבָּאthe denעַדuntilדִּי־שְׁלִטוּwhich they assaultedבְהוֹןthemאַרְיָוָתָאthe lionsוְכׇל־גַּרְמֵיהוֹןand all their bonesהַדִּקוּ׃they shattered

    And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

26. 26

    בֵּאדַיִןthenדָּרְיָוֶשׁDariusמַלְכָּאthe kingכְּתַבwroteלְכׇל־עַמְמַיָּאto all the peoplesאֻמַּיָּאthe nationsוְלִשָּׁנַיָּאand languagesדִּי־[דָיְרִין]which are dwelling(דארין)בְּכׇל־אַרְעָאin all the earthשְׁלָמְכוֹןyour peaceיִשְׂגֵּא׃will it grow great

    Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

27. 27

    מִן־קֳדָמַיfrom before meשִׂיםputטְעֵםcommandדִּיwhichבְּכׇל־שׇׁלְטָןin all dominionמַלְכוּתִיmy kingdomלֶהֱוֺןthey shall be[זָיְעִין]tremblingוְדָחֲלִיןand fearingמִן־קֳדָםfrom beforeאֱלָהֵהּhis Godדִּי־דָנִיֵּאלwhich Danielדִּי־הוּאwhich isאֱלָהָאGodחַיָּאlivingוְקַיָּםand enduringלְעָלְמִיןfor everוּמַלְכוּתֵהּand his kingdomדִּי־לָאwhich notתִתְחַבַּלit will be destroyedוְשׇׁלְטָנֵהּand his dominionעַד־סוֹפָא׃until the end

    I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

28. 28

    מְשֵׁיזִבhe is deliveringוּמַצִּלand he is rescuingוְעָבֵדand he is doingאָתִיןsignsוְתִמְהִיןand wondersבִּשְׁמַיָּאin the heavensוּבְאַרְעָאand on the earthדִּיwhichשֵׁיזִבhe has deliveredלְדָנִיֵּאלto Danielמִן־יַדfrom the hand ofאַרְיָוָתָא׃the lions

    He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

29. 29

    וְדָנִיֵּאלand Danielדְּנָהthisהַצְלַחhe caused to prosperבְּמַלְכוּתin the kingdom ofדָּרְיָוֶשׁDariusוּבְמַלְכוּתand in the reign ofכּוֹרֶשׁCyrus[פָּרְסָאָה]׃the Persian

    So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
