Amos 8 עָמוֹס פרק ח׳

1. 1

   כֹּהkothusהִרְאַנִיhir/A/nihas shown meאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכְּלוּבke/LUVa basket ofקָיִץ׃KA/yitssummer fruit

   Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

2. 2

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמָה־אַתָּהma-at/TAwhat are youרֹאֶהro/EseeingעָמוֹסA/MOSAmosוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidכְּלוּבke/LUVa basket ofקָיִץKA/yitssummer fruitוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֵלַיe/LAYto meבָּאbais comeהַקֵּץhak/KETSthe endאֶל־עַמִּיel-am/MIto my peopleיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֹא־אוֹסִיףlo-o/SIFI will not againעוֹדodany moreעֲבוֹרa/VORpass byלוֹ׃lohim

   And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

   וְהֵילִילוּve/he/LI/luand shall wailשִׁירוֹתshi/ROTthe songs ofהֵיכָלhe/KHALthe templeבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODרַבravmanyהַפֶּגֶרhap/PE/gerthe dead bodiesבְּכׇל־מָקוֹםbe/KHOL-ma/KOMin every placeהִשְׁלִיךְhish/LIKHthey shall cast forthהָס׃hashush

   And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

   שִׁמְעוּ־זֹאתshim/U-zothear thisהַשֹּׁאֲפִיםhash/sho/a/FIMyou that swallow upאֶבְיוֹןev/YONthe needyוְלַשְׁבִּיתve/lash/BITand to put an end to(ענוי)navay[עֲנִיֵּי־]אָרֶץ׃a/niy/YE-A/retsthe poor of the land

   Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

   לֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמָתַיma/TAYwhenיַעֲבֹרya/a/VORwill be goneהַחֹדֶשׁha/CHO/deshthe monthוְנַשְׁבִּירָהve/nash/BI/rathat we may sellשֶּׁבֶרSHE/vergrainוְהַשַּׁבָּתve/hash/shab/BATand the sabbathוְנִפְתְּחָה־בָּרve/nif/te/CHA-barthat we may set forth wheatלְהַקְטִיןle/hak/TINmaking smallאֵיפָהe/FAthe ephahוּלְהַגְדִּילu/le/hag/DILand making greatשֶׁקֶלSHE/kelthe shekelוּלְעַוֵּתu/le/av/VETand falsifyingמֹאזְנֵיmo/ze/NEthe balances ofמִרְמָה׃mir/MAdeceit

   Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

   לִקְנוֹתlik/NOTto buyבַּכֶּסֶףbak/KE/seffor silverדַּלִּיםdal/LIMthe poorוְאֶבְיוֹןve/ev/YONand the needyבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURforנַעֲלָיִםna/a/LA/yima pair of sandalsוּמַפַּלu/map/PALand refuse ofבַּרbarthe wheatנַשְׁבִּיר׃nash/BIRwe may sell

   That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

7. 7

   נִשְׁבַּעnish/BAhas swornיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבִּגְאוֹןbig/ONby the pride ofיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobאִם־אֶשְׁכַּחim-esh/KACHI will not forgetלָנֶצַחla/NE/tsachforeverכׇּל־מַעֲשֵׂיהֶם׃kol-ma/a/se/HEMany of their works

   The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

8. 8

   הַעַלHA/alforזֹאתzotthisלֹא־תִרְגַּזlo-tir/GAZshall not trembleהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe earthוְאָבַלve/a/VALand mournכׇּל־יוֹשֵׁבkol-yo/SHEVevery one that dwellsבָּהּbain itוְעָלְתָהve/a/le/TAand it shall rise upכָאֹרKha/ORlike the Riverכֻּלָּהּkul/LAwhollyוְנִגְרְשָׁהve/nig/re/SHAand it shall be tossed(ונשקה)vanashakah[וְנִשְׁקְעָה]ve/nish/ke/Aand sinkכִּיאוֹרKi/ORlike the River ofמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimEgypt

   Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODוְהֵבֵאתִיve/he/ve/TIand I will cause to setהַשֶּׁמֶשׁhash/SHE/meshthe sunבַּצׇּהֳרָיִםbats/tso/ho/RA/yimat noonוְהַחֲשַׁכְתִּיve/ha/cha/shakh/TIand I will darkenלָאָרֶץla/A/retsthe earthבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofאוֹר׃orlight

   And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

    וְהָפַכְתִּיve/ha/fakh/TIand I will turnחַגֵּיכֶםchag/ge/KHEMyour feastsלְאֵבֶלle/E/velinto mourningוְכׇל־שִׁירֵיכֶםve/KHOL-shi/re/KHEMand all your songsלְקִינָהle/ki/NAinto lamentationוְהַעֲלֵיתִיve/ha/a/le/TIand I will bring upעַל־כׇּל־מׇתְנַיִםal-kol-mot/NA/yimupon all loinsשָׂקsaksackclothוְעַל־כׇּל־רֹאשׁve/AL-kol-roshand upon every headקׇרְחָהkor/CHAbaldnessוְשַׂמְתִּיהָve/sam/TI/haand I will make itכְּאֵבֶלke/E/vellike the mourning ofיָחִידya/CHIDan only sonוְאַחֲרִיתָהּve/a/cha/ri/TAand its endכְּיוֹםke/YOMas a dayמָר׃marbitter

    And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיָמִיםya/MIMdaysבָּאִיםba/IMcomeנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODוְהִשְׁלַחְתִּיve/hish/lach/TIand I will sendרָעָבra/AVa famineבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landלֹא־רָעָבlo-ra/AVnot a famineלַלֶּחֶםlal/LE/chemfor breadוְלֹא־צָמָאve/LO-tsa/MAnor a thirstלַמַּיִםlam/MA/yimfor waterכִּיkibutאִם־לִשְׁמֹעַim-lish/MO/arather to hearאֵת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe words ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

12. 12

    וְנָעוּve/na/Uand they shall wanderמִיָּםmiy/YAMfrom seaעַד־יָםad-yamto seaוּמִצָּפוֹןu/mits/tsa/FONand from the northוְעַד־מִזְרָחve/AD-miz/RACHeven to the eastיְשׁוֹטְטוּye/shot/TUthey shall run to and froלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto seekאֶת־דְּבַר־יְהֹוָהet-de/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDוְלֹאve/LOand notיִמְצָאוּ׃yim/TSA/ushall they find

    And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

13. 13

    בַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatתִּתְעַלַּפְנָהtit/al/laf/NAshall faintהַבְּתוּלֹתhab/be/tu/LOTthe virginsהַיָּפוֹתhay/ya/FOTfairוְהַבַּחוּרִיםve/hab/ba/chu/RIMand the young menבַּצָּמָא׃bats/tsa/MAfor thirst

    In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

14. 14

    הַנִּשְׁבָּעִיםhan/nish/ba/IMthey that swearבְּאַשְׁמַתbe/ash/MATby the sin ofשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONSamariaוְאָמְרוּve/a/me/RUand sayחֵיcheby the life ofאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour godדָּןDanO Danוְחֵיve/CHEand by the life ofדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhthe way ofבְּאֵר־שָׁבַעBe/ER-SHA/vaBeer-shebaוְנָפְלוּve/na/fe/LUand they shall fallוְלֹא־יָקוּמוּve/LO-ya/KU/muand not rise upעוֹד׃odagain

    They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
