   שִׁמְעוּshim/Uhearאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIנֹשֵׂאno/SEtake upעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMagainst youקִינָהki/NAa lamentationבֵּיתbetO house ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

2. 2

   נָפְלָהna/fe/LAis fallenלֹא־תוֹסִיףlo-to/SIFshe shall no moreקוּםkumriseבְּתוּלַתbe/tu/LATthe virgin ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelנִטְּשָׁהnit/te/SHAshe is forsakenעַל־אַדְמָתָהּal-ad/ma/TAupon her landאֵיןenthere is noמְקִימָהּ׃me/ki/MAto raise her up

   The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

   כִּיkiforכֹהkhothusאָמַרa/MARsaysאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe LordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODהָעִירha/IRthe cityהַיֹּצֵאתhay/yo/TSETthat went out byאֶלֶףE/lefa thousandתַּשְׁאִירtash/IRshall leaveמֵאָהme/Aa hundredוְהַיּוֹצֵאתve/hay/yo/TSETand that which went out byמֵאָהme/Aa hundredתַּשְׁאִירtash/IRshall leaveעֲשָׂרָהa/sa/RAtenלְבֵיתle/VETto the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

   כִּיkiforכֹהkhothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלְבֵיתle/VETto the house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelדִּרְשׁוּנִיdir/SHU/niseek meוִחְיוּ׃vich/YUand live

   For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

   וְאַל־תִּדְרְשׁוּve/AL-tid/re/SHUand do not seekבֵּית־אֵלBet-elBeth-elוְהַגִּלְגָּלve/hag/Gil/GALand Gilgalלֹאlonotתָבֹאוּta/VO/uenterוּבְאֵרu/ve/ERand Beer-שֶׁבַעSHE/vashebaלֹאlonotתַעֲבֹרוּta/a/VO/rupass overכִּיkiforהַגִּלְגָּלHag/gil/GALGilgalגָּלֹהga/LOgo into captivityיִגְלֶהyig/LEshall go into captivityוּבֵית־אֵלu/VET-eland Beth-elיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall comeלְאָוֶן׃le/A/vento nought

   But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.

   דִּרְשׁוּdir/SHUseekאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוִחְיוּvich/YUand liveפֶּן־יִצְלַחpen-yits/LACHlest He break outכָּאֵשׁka/ESHlike fireבֵּיתbetin the house ofיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephוְאׇכְלָהve/okh/LAand it devourוְאֵין־מְכַבֶּהve/EN-me/khab/BEand there be none to quenchלְבֵית־אֵל׃le/VET-elin Beth-el

   Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el.

7. 7

   הַהֹפְכִיםha/hof/KHIMyou who turnלְלַעֲנָהle/la/a/NAinto wormwoodמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjudgmentוּצְדָקָהu/tse/da/KAand righteousnessלָאָרֶץla/A/retsto the groundהִנִּיחוּ׃hin/NI/chucast down

   Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

8. 8

   עֹשֵׂהo/SEHe that makesכִימָהKhi/MAthe Pleiadesוּכְסִילu/Khe/SILand Orionוְהֹפֵךְve/ho/FEKHand turnsלַבֹּקֶרlab/BO/kerinto the morningצַלְמָוֶתtsal/MA/vetthe shadow of deathוְיוֹםve/YOMand dayלַיְלָהLAY/lanightהֶחְשִׁיךְhech/SHIKHhe makes darkהַקּוֹרֵאhak/ko/REthat callsלְמֵי־הַיָּםle/ME-hay/YAMfor the waters of the seaוַיִּשְׁפְּכֵםvay/yish/pe/KHEMand pours them outעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the face ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe earthיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשְׁמוֹ׃she/MOis His name

   Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

9. 9

   הַמַּבְלִיגham/mav/LIGthat strengthensשֹׁדshoddestructionעַל־עָזal-azagainst the strongוְשֹׁדve/SHODand destructionעַל־מִבְצָרal-miv/TSARagainst the fortressיָבוֹא׃ya/VOshall come

   That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

10. 10

    שָׂנְאוּsa/ne/Uthey hateבַשַּׁעַרvash/SHA/arin the gateמוֹכִיחַmo/KHI/achhim that rebukesוְדֹבֵרve/do/VERand him that speaksתָּמִיםta/MIMuprightlyיְתָעֵבוּ׃ye/ta/E/vuthey abhor

    They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיַעַןYA/anbecauseבּוֹשַׁסְכֶםbo/shas/KHEMyour tramplingעַל־דָּלal-dalupon the poorוּמַשְׂאַת־בַּרu/mas/AT-barand exactions of wheatתִּקְחוּtik/CHUyou takeמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufrom himבָּתֵּיbat/TEthe houses ofגָזִיתga/ZIThewn stoneבְּנִיתֶםbe/ni/TEMyou have builtוְלֹא־תֵשְׁבוּve/LO-TESH/vubut you shall not dwellבָםvamin themכַּרְמֵי־חֶמֶדkar/ME-CHE/medpleasant vineyardsנְטַעְתֶּםne/ta/TEMyou have plantedוְלֹאve/LObut notתִשְׁתּוּtish/TUyou shall drinkאֶת־יֵינָם׃et-ye/NAMtheir wine

    Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

    כִּיkiforיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyפִּשְׁעֵיכֶםpish/e/KHEMyour transgressionsוַעֲצֻמִיםva/a/tsu/MIMand mightyחַטֹּאתֵיכֶםchat/to/te/KHEMyour sinsצֹרְרֵיtsor/REafflictingצַדִּיקtsad/DIKthe justלֹקְחֵיlok/CHEtakingכֹפֶרKHO/fera bribeוְאֶבְיוֹנִיםve/ev/yo/NIMand the needyבַּשַּׁעַרbash/SHA/arin the gateהִטּוּ׃hit/TUthey turn aside

    For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

13. 13

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהַמַּשְׂכִּילham/mas/KILthe prudentבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatיִדֹּםyid/DOMshall keep silentכִּיkiforעֵתettimeרָעָהra/Aevilהִיא׃hiit is

    Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.

14. 14

    דִּרְשׁוּ־טוֹבdir/SHU-tovseek goodוְאַל־רָעve/AL-raand not evilלְמַעַןle/MA/anin order thatתִּחְיוּtich/YUyou may liveוִיהִי־כֵןvi/HI-khenand so shall beיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵי־צְבָאוֹתe/lo/HE-tse/va/OTthe God of hostsאִתְּכֶםit/te/KHEMwith youכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasאֲמַרְתֶּם׃a/mar/TEMyou have said

    Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

15. 15

    שִׂנְאוּ־רָעsin/U-rahate evilוְאֶהֱבוּve/E/he/vuand loveטוֹבtovgoodוְהַצִּיגוּve/hats/TSI/guand establishבַשַּׁעַרvash/SHA/arin the gateמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjudgmentאוּלַיu/LAYperhapsיֶחֱנַןye/che/NANwill be gracious toיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵי־צְבָאוֹתe/lo/HE-tse/va/OTthe God of hostsשְׁאֵרִיתshe/e/RITthe remnant ofיוֹסֵף׃Yo/SEFJoseph

    Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

16. 16

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OThostsאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe Lordבְּכׇל־רְחֹבוֹתbe/KHOL-re/cho/VOTin all the squaresמִסְפֵּדmis/PEDwailingוּבְכׇל־חוּצוֹתu/ve/KHOL-chu/TSOTand in all the streetsיֹאמְרוּyo/me/RUthey shall sayהוֹ־הוֹho-hoalas alasוְקָרְאוּve/ka/re/Uand they shall callאִכָּרik/KARthe farmerאֶל־אֵבֶלel-E/velto mourningוּמִסְפֵּדu/mis/PEDand wailingאֶל־יוֹדְעֵיel-YOD/eto those skilled inנֶהִי׃NE/hilamentation

    Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

17. 17

    וּבְכׇל־כְּרָמִיםu/ve/KHOL-ke/ra/MIMand in all vineyardsמִסְפֵּדmis/PEDwailingכִּי־אֶעֱבֹרki-e/e/VORfor I will passבְּקִרְבְּךָbe/kir/be/KHAthrough your midstאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.

18. 18

    הוֹיhoywoeהַמִּתְאַוִּיםham/mit/av/VIMyou that desireאֶת־יוֹםet-yomthe day ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָמָּה־זֶּהLAM/ma-zeto what endלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youיוֹםyomthe day ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהוּא־חֹשֶׁךְhu-CHO/shekhit is darknessוְלֹא־אוֹר׃ve/LO-orand not light

    Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

19. 19

    כַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיָנוּסya/NUSfleesאִישׁisha manמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfromהָאֲרִיha/a/RIthe lionוּפְגָעוֹu/fe/ga/Oand it meets himהַדֹּבhad/DOVthe bearוּבָאu/VAand goes intoהַבַּיִתhab/BA/yitthe houseוְסָמַךְve/sa/MAKHand leansיָדוֹya/DOhis handעַל־הַקִּירal-hak/KIRupon the wallוּנְשָׁכוֹu/ne/sha/KHOand bites himהַנָּחָשׁ׃han/na/CHASHthe serpent

    As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

20. 20

    הֲלֹא־חֹשֶׁךְha/LO-CHO/shekhis it not darknessיוֹםyomthe day ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְלֹא־אוֹרve/LO-orand not lightוְאָפֵלve/a/FELand very darkוְלֹא־נֹגַהּve/LO-NO/gaand no brightnessלוֹ׃loin it

    Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

21. 21

    שָׂנֵאתִיsa/NE/tiI hateמָאַסְתִּיma/AS/tiI despiseחַגֵּיכֶםchag/ge/KHEMyour feastsוְלֹאve/LOand notאָרִיחַa/RI/achI will smellבְּעַצְּרֹתֵיכֶם׃be/ats/tse/ro/te/KHEMin your solemn assemblies

    I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

22. 22

    כִּיkiforאִם־תַּעֲלוּ־לִיim-ta/a/LU-liif you offer to meעֹלוֹתo/LOTburnt offeringsוּמִנְחֹתֵיכֶםu/min/cho/te/KHEMand your grain offeringsלֹאlonotאֶרְצֶהer/TSEI will acceptוְשֶׁלֶםve/SHE/lemand the peace offerings ofמְרִיאֵיכֶםme/ri/e/KHEMyour fatlingsלֹאlonotאַבִּיט׃ab/BITI will regard

    Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

23. 23

    הָסֵרha/SERtake awayמֵעָלַיme/a/LAYfrom meהֲמוֹןha/MONthe noise ofשִׁרֶיךָshi/RE/khayour songsוְזִמְרַתve/zim/RATand the melody ofנְבָלֶיךָne/va/LE/khayour harpsלֹאlonotאֶשְׁמָע׃esh/MAI will hear

    Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

24. 24

    וְיִגַּלve/yig/GALbut let roll downכַּמַּיִםkam/MA/yimas watersמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATjudgmentוּצְדָקָהu/tse/da/KAand righteousnessכְּנַחַלke/NA/chalas a streamאֵיתָן׃e/TANmighty

    But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

25. 25

    הַזְּבָחִיםhaz/ze/va/CHIMsacrificesוּמִנְחָהu/min/CHAand offeringהִגַּשְׁתֶּם־לִיhig/gash/TEM-lidid you bring to meבַמִּדְבָּרvam/mid/BARin the wildernessאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsבֵּיתbetO house ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

26. 26

    וּנְשָׂאתֶםu/ne/sa/TEMand you will carryאֵת־סִכּוּתet-sik/KUTthe tabernacle ofמַלְכְּכֶםmal/ke/KHEMyour kingוְאֵתve/ETandכִּיּוּןKiy/YUNChiunצַלְמֵיכֶםtsal/me/KHEMyour imagesכּוֹכַבko/KHAVthe star ofאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour godאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעֲשִׂיתֶםa/si/TEMyou madeלָכֶם׃la/KHEMfor yourselves

    But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

27. 27

    וְהִגְלֵיתִיve/hig/le/TIand I will carry away captiveאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמֵהָלְאָהme/HAL/afrom beyondלְדַמָּשֶׂקLe/dam/MA/sekDamascusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵי־צְבָאוֹתe/lo/HE-tse/va/OTthe God of hostsשְׁמוֹ׃she/MOis His name

    Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.
