1. 1

   שִׁמְעוּhearאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe wordהַזֶּהthisאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבֶּרspokeיְהֹוָהthe LORDעֲלֵיכֶםover youבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelעַלuponכׇּל־הַמִּשְׁפָּחָהall the familyאֲשֶׁרwhichהֶעֱלֵיתִיI brought upמֵאֶרֶץfrom the land ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptלֵאמֹר׃saying

   Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

   רַקonlyאֶתְכֶםyouיָדַעְתִּיI knowמִכֹּלof allמִשְׁפְּחוֹתfamilies ofהָאֲדָמָהthe earthעַל־כֵּןthereforeאֶפְקֹדI will punishעֲלֵיכֶםover youאֵת־כׇּל־עֲוֺנֹתֵיכֶם׃all your iniquities

   You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

   הֲיֵלְכוּdo they walkשְׁנַיִםtwoיַחְדָּוtogetherבִּלְתִּיexceptאִם־נוֹעָדוּ׃if they have met by appointment

   Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

4. 4

   הֲיִשְׁאַגdoes it roarאַרְיֵהa lionבַּיַּעַרin the forestוְטֶרֶףand he tearsאֵיןthere is noלוֹto himהֲיִתֵּןdoes it give forthכְּפִירa young lion ofקוֹלוֹhis voiceמִמְּעֹנָתוֹfrom its denבִּלְתִּיexceptאִם־לָכָד׃if it has caught something

   Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

   הֲתִפֹּלdoes it fallצִפּוֹרbirdעַל־פַּחupon a snareהָאָרֶץthe earthוּמוֹקֵשׁand is a snareאֵיןthere is noלָהּto herהֲיַעֲלֶה־פַּחdoes it go up a snareמִן־הָאֲדָמָהfrom the groundוְלָכוֹדand takenלֹאnotיִלְכּוֹד׃it catches something

   Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

   אִם־יִתָּקַעif it will be blownשׁוֹפָרa ram's hornבְּעִירin a cityוְעָםand peopleלֹאnotיֶחֱרָדוּthey trembleאִם־תִּהְיֶהif shall beרָעָהevilבְּעִירin a cityוַיהֹוָהand the LORDלֹאnotעָשָׂה׃he did

   Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

7. 7

   כִּיbecauseלֹאnotיַעֲשֶׂהhe shall doאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODדָּבָרa thingכִּיbecauseאִם־גָּלָהbut he revealethסוֹדוֹHis counselאֶל־עֲבָדָיוto his servantsהַנְּבִיאִים׃the prophets

   Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8. 8

   אַרְיֵהa lionשָׁאָגit has roaredמִיwhoלֹאnotיִירָאit will fearאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODדִּבֶּרspokeמִיwhoלֹאnotיִנָּבֵא׃he prophesies

   The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

   הַשְׁמִיעוּtellעַל־אַרְמְנוֹתupon the fortresses ofבְּאַשְׁדּוֹדin Ashdodוְעַל־אַרְמְנוֹתand upon the fortresses ofבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofמִצְרָיִםEgyptוְאִמְרוּand sayהֵאָסְפוּgather yourselvesעַל־הָרֵיupon the mountains ofשֹׁמְרוֹןSamariaוּרְאוּand seeמְהוּמֹתdisturbancesרַבּוֹתmanyבְּתוֹכָהּin its midstוַעֲשׁוּקִיםand oppressionבְּקִרְבָּהּ׃in the midst thereof

   Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

10. 10

    וְלֹא־יָדְעוּand not they knewעֲשׂוֹת־נְכֹחָהto do rightנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDהָאוֹצְרִיםthe ones who store upחָמָסviolenceוָשֹׁדand havocבְּאַרְמְנוֹתֵיהֶם׃in their fortresses

    For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

11. 11

    לָכֵןthereforeכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִהGODצַרan adversaryוּסְבִיבand aroundהָאָרֶץthe landוְהוֹרִידand lead downמִמֵּךְfrom youעֻזֵּךְyour strengthוְנָבֹזּוּand they will be plunderedאַרְמְנוֹתָיִךְ׃your fortresses

    Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.

12. 12

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDכַּאֲשֶׁרasיַצִּילshall deliverהָרֹעֶהthe shepherdמִפִּיfrom the mouth ofהָאֲרִיthe lionשְׁתֵּיtwoכְרָעַיִםlegsאוֹorבְדַל־אֹזֶןa piece of an earכֵּןthusיִנָּצְלוּshall be taken outבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהַיֹּשְׁבִיםthe inhabitantsבְּשֹׁמְרוֹןin Samariaבִּפְאַתwith a corner ofמִטָּהa bedוּבִדְמֶשֶׁקand in Damascusעָרֶשׂ׃a couch

    Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

13. 13

    שִׁמְעוּhearוְהָעִידוּand testifyבְּבֵיתin the house ofיַעֲקֹבJacobנְאֻם־אֲדֹנָיsays LordיֱהֹוִהGODאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofהַצְּבָאוֹת׃of hosts

    Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,

14. 14

    כִּיthatבְּיוֹםin the day ofפׇּקְדִיI shall visitפִשְׁעֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלthe transgressions of Israelעָלָיוupon himוּפָקַדְתִּיI will also visitעַל־מִזְבְּחוֹתupon altarsבֵּית־אֵלBeth-elוְנִגְדְּעוּand they will be cut downקַרְנוֹתthe horns ofהַמִּזְבֵּחַthe altarוְנָפְלוּand they shall fallלָאָרֶץ׃to the ground

    That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Beth-el: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

15. 15

    וְהִכֵּיתִיand I will smiteבֵית־הַחֹרֶףhouse of the winterעַל־בֵּיתto the house ofהַקָּיִץthe summerוְאָבְדוּand were lostבָּתֵּיthe houses ofהַשֵּׁןivoryוְסָפוּshall have an endבָּתִּיםhousesרַבִּיםmanyנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃says the LORD

    And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.
