Amos 1 עָמוֹס פרק א׳

1. 1

   דִּבְרֵיthe words ofעָמוֹסAmosאֲשֶׁר־הָיָהwhich wasבַנֹּקְדִיםamong the herdmenמִתְּקוֹעַfrom Tekoaאֲשֶׁרwhichחָזָהsawעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלupon Israelבִּימֵיin the days ofעֻזִּיָּהUzziahמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָהking of Judahוּבִימֵיand in the days ofיָרׇבְעָםJeroboamבֶּן־יוֹאָשׁson of Joashמֶלֶךְthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelשְׁנָתַיִםtwo yearsלִפְנֵיbeforeהָרָעַשׁ׃the earthquake

   The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

2. 2

   וַיֹּאמַרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDמִצִּיּוֹןout of Zionיִשְׁאָגhe will roarוּמִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםand from Jerusalemיִתֵּןshall giveקוֹלוֹHis voiceוְאָבְלוּand mournנְאוֹתthe pastures ofהָרֹעִיםthe shepherdsוְיָבֵשׁshall witherרֹאשׁthe top ofהַכַּרְמֶל׃Carmel

   And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.

3. 3

   כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַל־שְׁלֹשָׁהupon threeפִּשְׁעֵיtransgressions ofדַמֶּשֶׂקDamascusוְעַל־אַרְבָּעָהand upon fourלֹאnotאֲשִׁיבֶנּוּI will turn it backעַל־דּוּשָׁםupon threshed theyבַּחֲרֻצוֹתwith the threshing sledges ofהַבַּרְזֶלthe ironאֶת־הַגִּלְעָד׃Gilead

   Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:

4. 4

   וְשִׁלַּחְתִּיand I will sendאֵשׁfireבְּבֵיתin the house ofחֲזָאֵלHazaelוְאׇכְלָהand shall devourאַרְמְנוֹתthe fortresses ofבֶּן־הֲדָד׃son of Hadad

   But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.

   וְשָׁבַרְתִּיand I will breakבְּרִיחַa barדַּמֶּשֶׂקDamascusוְהִכְרַתִּיand cut offיוֹשֵׁבsittingמִבִּקְעַת־אָוֶןfrom the plain of Avenוְתוֹמֵךְand him that holdethשֵׁבֶטthe scepterמִבֵּיתfrom the house ofעֶדֶןEdenוְגָלוּand they will go into exileעַם־אֲרָםpeople Syriaקִירָהto Kirאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.

6. 6

   כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַל־שְׁלֹשָׁהupon threeפִּשְׁעֵיtransgressions ofעַזָּהGazaוְעַל־אַרְבָּעָהand upon fourלֹאnotאֲשִׁיבֶנּוּI will turn it backעַל־הַגְלוֹתָםupon carried away into exile theyגָּלוּתthe exiles ofשְׁלֵמָהcompleteלְהַסְגִּירto deliver upלֶאֱדוֹם׃of Edom

   Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:

7. 7

   וְשִׁלַּחְתִּיand I will sendאֵשׁfireבְּחוֹמַתin the walls ofעַזָּהGazaוְאׇכְלָהand shall devourאַרְמְנֹתֶיהָ׃its fortresses

   But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:

   וְהִכְרַתִּיand cut offיוֹשֵׁבsittingמֵאַשְׁדּוֹדfrom Ashdodוְתוֹמֵךְand him that holdethשֵׁבֶטthe scepterמֵאַשְׁקְלוֹןfrom Ashkelonוַהֲשִׁיבוֹתִיand I will turnיָדִיmy handעַל־עֶקְרוֹןupon Ekronוְאָבְדוּand were lostשְׁאֵרִיתremnant ofפְּלִשְׁתִּיםPhilistinesאָמַרsaidאֲדֹנָיLordיֱהֹוִה׃GOD

   And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.

9. 9

   כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַל־שְׁלֹשָׁהupon threeפִּשְׁעֵי־צֹרtransgressions of Tyreוְעַל־אַרְבָּעָהand upon fourלֹאnotאֲשִׁיבֶנּוּI will turn it backעַל־הַסְגִּירָםupon delivered up theyגָּלוּתthe exiles ofשְׁלֵמָהcompleteלֶאֱדוֹםof Edomוְלֹאand notזָכְרוּthey rememberedבְּרִיתcovenant ofאַחִים׃brothers

   Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:

10. 10

    וְשִׁלַּחְתִּיand I will sendאֵשׁfireבְּחוֹמַתin the walls ofצֹרTyreוְאׇכְלָהand shall devourאַרְמְנוֹתֶיהָ׃its palaces

    But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.

11. 11

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַל־שְׁלֹשָׁהupon threeפִּשְׁעֵיtransgressions ofאֱדוֹםEdomוְעַל־אַרְבָּעָהand upon fourלֹאnotאֲשִׁיבֶנּוּI will turn it backעַל־רׇדְפוֹupon pursued heבַחֶרֶבby the swordאָחִיוhis brotherוְשִׁחֵתand he spoiledרַחֲמָיוhis pityוַיִּטְרֹףand it toreלָעַדforeverאַפּוֹhis angerוְעֶבְרָתוֹand his furyשְׁמָרָהֿhe kept itנֶצַח׃eternal

    Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:

12. 12

    וְשִׁלַּחְתִּיand I will sendאֵשׁfireבְּתֵימָןin Temanוְאׇכְלָהand shall devourאַרְמְנוֹתthe fortresses ofבׇּצְרָה׃Bozrah

    But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

13. 13

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַל־שְׁלֹשָׁהupon threeפִּשְׁעֵיtransgressions ofבְנֵי־עַמּוֹןsons of Ammonוְעַל־אַרְבָּעָהand upon fourלֹאnotאֲשִׁיבֶנּוּI will turn it backעַל־בִּקְעָםupon ripped open theyהָרוֹתwith the childהַגִּלְעָדGileadלְמַעַןin order thatהַרְחִיבto enlargeאֶת־גְּבוּלָם׃their territory

    Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:

14. 14

    וְהִצַּתִּיand I will kindleאֵשׁfireבְּחוֹמַתin the walls ofרַבָּהRabbahוְאׇכְלָהand shall devourאַרְמְנוֹתֶיהָits palacesבִּתְרוּעָהwith shoutingבְּיוֹםin the day ofמִלְחָמָהwarבְּסַעַרwith a stormבְּיוֹםin the day ofסוּפָה׃a storm wind

    But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:

15. 15

    וְהָלַךְand goמַלְכָּםtheir kingבַּגּוֹלָהin the exileהוּאheוְשָׂרָיוand his princesיַחְדָּוtogetherאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
