   And when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.

   And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin:

   וַיִּבְרְחוּvay/yiv/re/CHUand fledהַבְּאֵרֹתִיםhab/Be/e/ro/TIMthe BeerothitesגִּתָּיְמָהGit/TAY/mato Gittaimוַיִּהְיוּ־שָׁםvay/yih/YU-shamand they were thereגָּרִיםga/RIMsojournersעַדaduntilהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)

   And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

   And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ish-bosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.

   וְהֵנָּהve/HEN/naand hitherבָּאוּBA/ucameעַד־תּוֹךְad-tokhinto the midst ofהַבַּיִתhab/BA/yitthe houseלֹקְחֵיlok/CHEtakingחִטִּיםchit/TIMwheatוַיַּכֻּהוּvay/yak/KU/huand they struck himאֶל־הַחֹמֶשׁel-ha/CHO/meshin the bellyוְרֵכָבve/Re/KHAVand Rechabוּבַעֲנָהu/Va/a/NAand Baanahאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherנִמְלָטוּ׃nim/LA/tuescaped

   And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

   וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameהַבַּיִתhab/BA/yitthe houseוְהוּא־שֹׁכֵבve/HU-sho/KHEVand he was lyingעַל־מִטָּתוֹal-mit/ta/TOupon his bedבַּחֲדַרba/cha/DARin the chamber ofמִשְׁכָּבוֹmish/ka/VOhis bedוַיַּכֻּהוּvay/yak/KU/huand they struck himוַיְמִתֻהוּvay/mi/TU/huand killed himוַיָּסִירוּvay/ya/SI/ruand removedאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹet-ro/SHOhis headוַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹet-ro/SHOhis headוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhby the way ofהָעֲרָבָהha/A/ra/VAthe Arabahכׇּל־הַלָּיְלָה׃kol-hal/LAY/laall the night

   For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.

   וַיָּבִאוּvay/ya/VI/uand they broughtאֶת־רֹאשׁet-roshthe head ofאִישׁ־בֹּשֶׁתIsh-BO/shetIsh-boshethאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto DavidחֶבְרוֹןChev/RONHebronוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingהִנֵּה־רֹאשׁhin/NE-roshbehold the head ofאִישׁ־בֹּשֶׁתIsh-BO/shetIsh-boshethבֶּן־שָׁאוּלben-Sha/ULthe son of Saulאֹיִבְךָo/yiv/KHAyour enemyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבִּקֵּשׁbik/KESHsoughtאֶת־נַפְשֶׁךָet-naf/SHE/khayour lifeוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIto my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingנְקָמוֹתne/ka/MOTvengeanceהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמִשָּׁאוּלmish/Sha/ULfrom Saulוּמִזַּרְעוֹ׃u/miz/zar/Oand from his seed

   And they brought the head of Ish-bosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶת־רֵכָבet-Re/KHAVRechabוְאֶת־בַּעֲנָהve/ET-ba/a/NAand Baanahאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofרִמּוֹןRim/MONRimmonהַבְּאֵרֹתִיhab/Be/e/ro/TIthe Beerothiteוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themחַי־יְהֹוָהchay-Adonaias the LORD livesאֲשֶׁר־פָּדָהa/SHER-pa/DAwho has redeemedאֶת־נַפְשִׁיet-naf/SHImy soulמִכׇּל־צָרָה׃mik/KOL-tsa/RAout of every distress

   And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

    כִּיkiforהַמַּגִּידham/mag/GIDthe one who toldלִיlito meלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִנֵּה־מֵתhin/NE-metbehold deadשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulוְהוּא־הָיָהve/HU-ha/YAand he wasכִמְבַשֵּׂרkhim/vas/SERas one bringing good newsבְּעֵינָיוbe/e/NAYVin his eyesוָאֹחֲזָהva/o/cha/ZAand I took holdבוֹvoof himוָאֶהְרְגֵהוּva/eh/re/GE/huand killed himבְּצִקְלָגbe/Tsik/LAGin Ziklagאֲשֶׁרa/SHERto whomלְתִתִּי־לוֹle/tit/TI-loI was to give himבְּשֹׂרָה׃be/so/RAa reward for news

    When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:

    אַףafhow much moreכִּי־אֲנָשִׁיםki-a/na/SHIMwhen menרְשָׁעִיםre/sha/IMwickedהָרְגוּha/re/GUhave killedאֶת־אִישׁ־צַדִּיקet-ish-tsad/DIKa righteous manבְּבֵיתוֹbe/ve/TOin his houseעַל־מִשְׁכָּבוֹal-mish/ka/VOupon his bedוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהֲלוֹאha/LOnotאֲבַקֵּשׁa/vak/KESHshall I requireאֶת־דָּמוֹet-da/MOhis bloodמִיֶּדְכֶםmiy/yed/KHEMof your handוּבִעַרְתִּיu/vi/ar/TIand I will purgeאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמִן־הָאָרֶץ׃min-ha/A/retsfrom the land

    How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?

12. 12

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶת־הַנְּעָרִיםet-han/ne/a/RIMthe young menוַיַּהַרְגוּםvay/ya/har/GUMand they killed themוַיְקַצְּצוּvay/kats/tse/TSUand cut offאֶת־יְדֵיהֶםet-ye/de/HEMtheir handsוְאֶת־רַגְלֵיהֶםve/ET-rag/le/HEMand their feetוַיִּתְלוּvay/yit/LUand hanged themעַל־הַבְּרֵכָהal-hab/be/re/KHAover the poolבְּחֶבְרוֹןbe/Chev/RONin Hebronוְאֵתve/ETandרֹאשׁroshthe head ofאִישׁ־בֹּשֶׁתIsh-BO/shetIsh-boshethלָקָחוּla/KA/chuthey tookוַיִּקְבְּרוּvay/yik/be/RUand they buriedבְקֶבֶר־אַבְנֵרve/KE/ver-av/NERin the tomb of Abnerבְּחֶבְרוֹן׃be/Chev/RONin Hebron

    And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.
