   And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־יוֹאָבel-Yo/AVto Joabשַׂר־הַחַיִלsar-ha/CHA/yilthe commander of the armyאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho was with himשׁוּט־נָאshut-nago about nowבְּכׇל־שִׁבְטֵיbe/KHOL-shiv/TEthrough all the tribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמִדָּןmid/DANfrom Danוְעַד־בְּאֵרve/AD-be/ERto Beer-שֶׁבַעSHE/vashebaוּפִקְדוּu/fik/DUand numberאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleוְיָדַעְתִּיve/ya/DA/tiand I will knowאֵת־מִסְפַּרet-mis/PARthe number ofהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

   For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.

   And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

   וַיֶּחֱזַקvay/ye/che/ZAKbut prevailedדְּבַר־הַמֶּלֶךְde/VAR-ham/ME/lekhthe word of the kingאֶל־יוֹאָבel-Yo/AVagainst Joabוְעַלve/ALand againstשָׂרֵיsa/REthe commanders ofהֶחָיִלhe/CHA/yilthe armyוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabוְשָׂרֵיve/sa/REand the commanders ofהַחַיִלha/CHA/yilthe armyלִפְנֵיlif/NEfrom the presence ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלִפְקֹדlif/KODto numberאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃et-Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

   וַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand they crossedאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordanוַיַּחֲנוּvay/ya/cha/NUand encampedבַעֲרוֹעֵרVa/a/ro/ERat Aroerיְמִיןye/MINon the right side ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבְּתוֹךְ־הַנַּחַלbe/TOKH-han/NA/chalin the midst of the brookהַגָּדhag/GADof Gadוְאֶל־יַעְזֵר׃ve/EL-ya/ZERand toward Jazer

   And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:

   וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameהַגִּלְעָדָהhag/Gil/A/dato Gileadוְאֶל־אֶרֶץve/EL-E/retsand to the land ofתַּחְתִּיםTach/TIMTahtim-חׇדְשִׁיchod/SHIhodshiוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameדָּנָהDA/nato Dan-יַּעַןYA/anjaanוְסָבִיבve/sa/VIVand round aboutאֶל־צִידוֹן׃el-Tsi/DONto Zidon

   Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and about to Zidon,

   וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameמִבְצַר־צֹרmiv/TSAR-Tsorto the fortress of Tyreוְכׇל־עָרֵיve/KHOL-a/REand all the cities ofהַחִוִּיha/Chiv/VIthe Hivitesוְהַכְּנַעֲנִיve/hak/Ke/na/a/NIand the Canaanitesוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand they went outאֶל־נֶגֶבel-NE/gevto the Negev ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahבְּאֵרbe/ERto Beer-שָׁבַע׃SHA/vasheba

   And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beer-sheba.

   וַיָּשֻׁטוּvay/ya/SHU/tuand they went aboutבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthrough all the landוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameמִקְצֵהmik/TSEat the end ofתִשְׁעָהtish/Anineחֳדָשִׁיםcho/da/SHIMmonthsוְעֶשְׂרִיםve/es/RIMand twentyיוֹםyomdaysיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

   So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

   וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabאֶת־מִסְפַּרet-mis/PARthe number ofמִפְקַד־הָעָםmif/KAD-ha/AMthe muster of the peopleאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand there wasיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELin Israelשְׁמֹנֶהshe/mo/NEeightמֵאוֹתme/OThundredאֶלֶףE/lefthousandאִישׁ־חַיִלish-CHA/yilvaliant menשֹׁלֵףSHO/lefwho drewחֶרֶבCHE/revthe swordוְאִישׁve/ISHand the men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahחֲמֵשׁ־מֵאוֹתcha/MESH-me/OTfive hundredאֶלֶףE/lefthousandאִישׁ׃ishmen

   And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

    And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand aroseדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidבַּבֹּקֶרbab/BO/kerin the morningוּדְבַר־יְהֹוָהu/de/VAR-Adonaiand the word of the LORDהָיָהha/YAcameאֶל־גָּדel-Gadto Gadהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetחֹזֵהcho/ZEthe seer ofדָוִדDa/VIDDavidלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

12. 12

    הָלוֹךְha/LOKHgoוְדִבַּרְתָּve/dib/bar/TAand speakאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIנוֹטֵלno/TELam layingעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaupon youבְּחַר־לְךָbe/CHAR-le/KHAchoose for yourselfאַחַת־מֵהֶםa/CHAT-me/HEMone of themוְאֶעֱשֶׂה־לָּךְ׃ve/e/e/SE-lakhand I will do to you

    Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

    וַיָּבֹא־גָדvay/Ya/VO-gadand Gad cameאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidוַיַּגֶּד־לוֹvay/YAG/ged-loand told himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himהֲתָבוֹאha/ta/VOshall comeלְךָle/KHAto youשֶׁבַע־שָׁנִיםSHE/va-sha/NIMseven yearsרָעָבra/AVfamineבְּאַרְצֶךָbe/ar/TSE/khain your landאִם־שְׁלֹשָׁהim-she/lo/SHAor threeחֳדָשִׁיםcho/da/SHIMmonthsנֻסְךָnus/KHAyour fleeingלִפְנֵי־צָרֶיךָlif/NE-tsa/RE/khabefore your enemiesוְהוּאve/HUand heרֹדְפֶךָrod/FE/khapursuing youוְאִם־הֱיוֹתve/IM-he/YOTor there to beשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysדֶּבֶרDE/verpestilenceבְּאַרְצֶךָbe/ar/TSE/khain your landעַתָּהat/TAnowדַּעdaknowוּרְאֵהu/re/Eand seeמָה־אָשִׁיבma-a/SHIVwhat I shall returnשֹׁלְחִיshol/CHIthe one who sent meדָּבָר׃da/VARa word

    So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־גָּדel-Gadto Gadצַר־לִיtsar-liI am in distressמְאֹדme/ODveryנִפְּלָה־נָּאnip/pe/LA-nalet us fall nowבְיַד־יְהֹוָהve/YAD-Adonaiinto the hand of the LORDכִּי־רַבִּיםki-rab/BIMfor greatרַחֲמָוra/cha/MAVare His merciesוּבְיַד־אָדָםu/ve/YAD-a/DAMbut into the hand of manאַל־אֶפֹּלָה׃al-ep/PO/lalet me not fall

    And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

15. 15

    וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDדֶּבֶרDE/vera pestilenceבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELupon Israelמֵהַבֹּקֶרme/hab/BO/kerfrom the morningוְעַד־עֵתve/AD-eteven to the timeמוֹעֵדmo/EDappointedוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedמִן־הָעָםmin-ha/AMof the peopleמִדָּןmid/DANfrom Danוְעַד־בְּאֵרve/AD-be/EReven to Beer-שֶׁבַעSHE/vashebaשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyאֶלֶףE/lefthousandאִישׁ׃ishmen

    So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand stretched outיָדוֹya/DOhis handהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimtoward Jerusalemלְשַׁחֲתָהּle/sha/cha/TAto destroy itוַיִּנָּחֶםvay/yin/NA/chemand repentedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הָרָעָהel-ha/ra/Aof the evilוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלַמַּלְאָךְlam/mal/AKHto the angelהַמַּשְׁחִיתham/mash/CHITwho was destroyingבָּעָםba/AMamong the peopleרַבravenoughעַתָּהat/TAnowהֶרֶףHE/refwithdrawיָדֶךָya/DE/khayour handוּמַלְאַךְu/mal/AKHand the angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהָיָהha/YAwasעִם־גֹּרֶןim-GO/renby the threshing place of[הָאֲרַוְנָה]Ha/a/RAV/naAraunahהַיְבֻסִי׃Hay/vu/SIthe Jebusite

    And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDבִּרְאֹתוֹbir/o/TOwhen he sawאֶת־הַמַּלְאָךְet-ham/mal/AKHthe angelהַמַּכֶּהham/mak/KEwho was strikingבָעָםva/AMamong the peopleוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIחָטָאתִיcha/TA/tihave sinnedוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand Iהֶעֱוֵיתִיhe/e/VE/tihave done wrongוְאֵלֶּהve/EL/lebut theseהַצֹּאןhats/TSONthe sheepמֶהmewhatעָשׂוּa/SUhave they doneתְּהִיte/HIlet beנָאnaI prayיָדְךָya/de/KHAYour handבִּיbiagainst meוּבְבֵיתu/ve/VETand against the house ofאָבִי׃a/VImy father

    And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

    וַיָּבֹא־גָדvay/Ya/VO-gadand Gad cameאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himעֲלֵהa/LEgo upהָקֵםha/KEMraiseלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDמִזְבֵּחַmiz/BE/achan altarבְּגֹרֶןbe/GO/renon the threshing floor of[אֲרַוְנָה]A/RAV/naAraunahהַיְבֻסִי׃Hay/vu/SIthe Jebusite

    And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

19. 19

    וַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidכִּדְבַר־גָּדkid/VAR-Gadaccording to the word of Gadכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasצִוָּהtsiv/VAcommandedיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.

20. 20

    וַיַּשְׁקֵףvay/yash/KEFand looked downאֲרַוְנָהA/RAV/naAraunahוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingוְאֶת־עֲבָדָיוve/ET-a/va/DAYVand his servantsעֹבְרִיםov/RIMpassing overעָלָיוa/LAYVtoward himוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאֲרַוְנָהA/RAV/naAraunahוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed downלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingאַפָּיוap/PAYVon his faceאָרְצָה׃AR/tsato the ground

    And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲרַוְנָהA/RAV/naAraunahמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyבָּאbahas comeאֲדֹנִי־הַמֶּלֶךְa/do/NI-ham/ME/lekhmy lord the kingאֶל־עַבְדּוֹel-av/DOto his servantוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidלִקְנוֹתlik/NOTto buyמֵעִמְּךָme/im/me/KHAfrom youאֶת־הַגֹּרֶןet-hag/GO/renthe threshing floorלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTto buildמִזְבֵּחַmiz/BE/achan altarלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDוְתֵעָצַרve/te/a/TSARand may be stoppedהַמַּגֵּפָהham/mag/ge/FAthe plagueמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

    And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

22. 22

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲרַוְנָהA/RAV/naAraunahאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidיִקַּחyik/KACHlet takeוְיַעַלve/YA/aland offer upאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהַטּוֹבhat/TOVwhat is goodבְּעֵינָוbe/e/NAVin his eyesרְאֵהre/Eseeהַבָּקָרhab/ba/KARthe oxenלָעֹלָהla/o/LAfor the burnt offeringוְהַמֹּרִגִּיםve/ham/mo/rig/GIMand the threshing sledgesוּכְלֵיu/khe/LEand the gear ofהַבָּקָרhab/ba/KARthe oxenלָעֵצִים׃la/e/TSIMfor wood

    And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

    הַכֹּלhak/KOLallנָתַןna/TANgaveאֲרַוְנָהA/RAV/naAraunahהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲרַוְנָהA/RAV/naAraunahאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godיִרְצֶךָ׃yir/TSE/khaaccept you

    All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־אֲרַוְנָהel-A/RAV/nato Araunahלֹאlonoכִּי־קָנוֹki-ka/NObut buyאֶקְנֶהek/NEI will buyמֵאוֹתְךָme/ot/KHAfrom youבִּמְחִירbim/CHIRat a priceוְלֹאve/LOand notאַעֲלֶהa/a/LEwill I offerלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהַיe/lo/HAYmy Godעֹלוֹתo/LOTburnt offeringsחִנָּםchin/NAMwithout costוַיִּקֶןvay/YI/kenand boughtדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶת־הַגֹּרֶןet-hag/GO/renthe threshing floorוְאֶת־הַבָּקָרve/ET-hab/ba/KARand the oxenבְּכֶסֶףbe/KHE/seffor silverשְׁקָלִיםshe/ka/LIMshekelsחֲמִשִּׁים׃cha/mish/SHIMfifty

    And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

    וַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand builtשָׁםshamthereדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidמִזְבֵּחַmiz/BE/achan altarלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland offeredעֹלוֹתo/LOTburnt offeringsוּשְׁלָמִיםu/she/la/MIMand peace offeringsוַיֵּעָתֵרvay/ye/a/TERand was entreatedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלָאָרֶץla/A/retsfor the landוַתֵּעָצַרvat/te/a/TSARand was stoppedהַמַּגֵּפָהham/mag/ge/FAthe plagueמֵעַלme/ALfromיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
