   Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלוֹloto himעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsיְבַקְשׁוּye/vak/SHUlet them seekלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIfor my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingנַעֲרָהna/a/RAa young womanבְתוּלָהve/tu/LAa virginוְעָמְדָהve/a/me/DAand let her standלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוּתְהִי־לוֹu/te/HI-loand let her be to himסֹכֶנֶתso/KHE/netan attendantוְשָׁכְבָהve/sha/khe/VAand let her lieבְחֵיקֶךָve/che/KE/khain your bosomוְחַםve/CHAMand it will be warmלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIfor my lordהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

   Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.

   וַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand they soughtנַעֲרָהna/a/RAa young womanיָפָהya/FAbeautifulבְּכֹלbe/KHOLthroughout allגְּבוּלge/VULthe territory ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uand they foundאֶת־אֲבִישַׁגet-A/vi/SHAGAbishagהַשּׁוּנַמִּיתhash/Shu/nam/MITthe Shunammiteוַיָּבִאוּvay/ya/VI/uand they broughtאֹתָהּo/TAherלַמֶּלֶךְ׃lam/ME/lekhto the king

   So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

   וְהַנַּעֲרָהve/han/na/a/RAand the young womanיָפָהya/FAwas beautifulעַד־מְאֹדad-me/ODveryוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand wasלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingסֹכֶנֶתso/KHE/netan attendantוַתְּשָׁרְתֵהוּvat/te/sha/re/TE/huand she served himוְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingלֹאlonotיְדָעָהּ׃ye/da/Aknew her

   And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.

   וַאֲדֹנִיָּהva/A/do/niy/YAand Adonijahבֶן־חַגִּיתven-Chag/GITthe son of Haggithמִתְנַשֵּׂאmit/nas/SEwas exalting himselfלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֲנִיa/NIIאֶמְלֹךְem/LOKHI will be kingוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeלוֹlofor himselfרֶכֶבRE/khevchariotsוּפָרָשִׁיםu/fa/ra/SHIMand horsemenוַחֲמִשִּׁיםva/cha/mish/SHIMand fiftyאִישׁishmenרָצִיםra/TSIMrunnersלְפָנָיו׃le/fa/NAYVbefore him

   Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

   וְלֹא־עֲצָבוֹve/LO-a/tsa/VOand had not pained himאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherמִיָּמָיוmiy/ya/MAYVfrom his daysלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyכָּכָהKA/khathusעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tahave you doneוְגַם־הוּאve/GAM-huand he alsoטוֹב־תֹּאַרtov-TO/argood of formמְאֹדme/ODveryוְאֹתוֹve/o/TOand himיָלְדָהya/le/DAshe had borneאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאַבְשָׁלוֹם׃Av/sha/LOMAbsalom

   And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.

   And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.

   וְצָדוֹקve/Tsa/DOKand Zadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוּבְנָיָהוּu/ve/Na/YA/huand Benaiahבֶן־יְהוֹיָדָעven-Ye/ho/ya/DAthe son of Jehoiadaוְנָתָןve/Na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוְשִׁמְעִיve/Shim/Iand Shimeiוְרֵעִיve/Re/Iand Reiוְהַגִּבּוֹרִיםve/hag/gib/bo/RIMand the mighty menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereלְדָוִדle/Da/VIDof Davidלֹאlonotהָיוּha/YUwereעִם־אֲדֹנִיָּהוּ׃im-A/do/niy/YA/huwith Adonijah

   But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

   וַיִּזְבַּחvay/yiz/BACHand he sacrificedאֲדֹנִיָּהוּA/do/niy/YA/huAdonijahצֹאןtsonflocksוּבָקָרu/va/KARand herdsוּמְרִיאu/me/RIand fatlingsעִםimbyאֶבֶןE/venthe stone ofהַזֹּחֶלֶתHaz/zo/CHE/letZohelethאֲשֶׁר־אֵצֶלa/SHER-E/tselthat is besideעֵיןEnEn-רֹגֵלro/GELrogelוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledאֶת־כׇּל־אֶחָיוet-kol-e/CHAYVall his brothersבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוּלְכׇל־אַנְשֵׁיu/le/KHOL-an/SHEand to all the men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servants ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

   And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

10. 10

    וְאֶת־נָתָןve/ET-na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוּבְנָיָהוּu/ve/Na/YA/huand Benaiahוְאֶת־הַגִּבּוֹרִיםve/ET-hag/gib/bo/RIMand the mighty menוְאֶת־שְׁלֹמֹהve/ET-she/lo/MOand Solomonאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherלֹאlonotקָרָא׃ka/RAhe called

    But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנָתָןNa/TANNathanאֶל־בַּת־שֶׁבַעel-Bat-SHE/vato Bath-shebaאֵם־שְׁלֹמֹהem-She/lo/MOthe mother of Solomonלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהֲלוֹאha/LOhave notשָׁמַעַתְּsha/MA/attyou heardכִּיkithatמָלַךְma/LAKHhas become kingאֲדֹנִיָּהוּA/do/niy/YA/huAdonijahבֶן־חַגִּיתven-Chag/GITthe son of Haggithוַאֲדֹנֵינוּva/a/do/NE/nuand our lordדָוִדDa/VIDDavidלֹאlonotיָדָע׃ya/DAknows

    Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?

12. 12

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלְכִיle/KHIcomeאִיעָצֵךְi/a/TSEKHlet me counsel youנָאnaI prayעֵצָהe/TSAcounselוּמַלְּטִיu/mal/le/TIand saveאֶת־נַפְשֵׁךְet-naf/SHEKHyour lifeוְאֶת־נֶפֶשׁve/ET-NE/feshand the life ofבְּנֵךְbe/NEKHyour sonשְׁלֹמֹה׃She/lo/MOSolomon

    Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

    לְכִיle/KHIgoוּבֹאִיu/VO/iand go inאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוְאָמַרְתְּve/a/MARTand sayאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהֲלֹא־אַתָּהha/LO-at/TAdid not youאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhO kingנִשְׁבַּעְתָּnish/BA/tayou sworeלַאֲמָתְךָla/a/ma/te/KHAto your handmaidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכִּי־שְׁלֹמֹהki-She/lo/MOsurely Solomonבְנֵךְve/NEKHyour sonיִמְלֹךְyim/LOKHshall reignאַחֲרַיa/cha/RAYafter meוְהוּאve/HUand heיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVshall sitעַל־כִּסְאִיal-kis/Iupon my throneוּמַדּוּעַu/mad/DU/aand whyמָלַךְma/LAKHhas become kingאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ׃A/do/niy/YA/huAdonijah

    Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?

14. 14

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעוֹדָךְo/DAKHwhile you are stillמְדַבֶּרֶתme/dab/BE/retspeakingשָׁםshamthereעִם־הַמֶּלֶךְim-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאָבוֹאa/VOwill come inאַחֲרַיִךְa/cha/RA/yikhafter youוּמִלֵּאתִיu/mil/le/TIand I will confirmאֶת־דְּבָרָיִךְ׃et-de/va/RA/yikhyour words

    Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.

15. 15

    וַתָּבֹאvat/ta/VOand wentבַת־שֶׁבַעvat-SHE/vaBath-shebaאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingהַחַדְרָהha/CHAD/rainto the chamberוְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingזָקֵןza/KENwas oldמְאֹדme/ODveryוַאֲבִישַׁגva/A/vi/SHAGand Abishagהַשּׁוּנַמִּיתhash/Shu/nam/MITthe Shunammiteמְשָׁרַתme/sha/RATwas servingאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃et-ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.

16. 16

    וַתִּקֹּדvat/tik/KODand she bowed lowבַּת־שֶׁבַעbat-SHE/vaBath-shebaוַתִּשְׁתַּחוּvat/tish/TA/chuand bowed downלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingמַה־לָּךְ׃ma-lakhwhat is with you

    And Bath-sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?

17. 17

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלוֹloto himאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordאַתָּהat/TAyouנִשְׁבַּעְתָּnish/BA/tasworeבַּיהֹוָהba-Adonaiby the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godלַאֲמָתֶךָla/a/ma/TE/khato your handmaidכִּי־שְׁלֹמֹהki-She/lo/MOsurely Solomonבְנֵךְve/NEKHyour sonיִמְלֹךְyim/LOKHshall reignאַחֲרָיa/cha/RAYafter meוְהוּאve/HUand heיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVshall sitעַל־כִּסְאִי׃al-kis/Iupon my throne

    And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

18. 18

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲדֹנִיָּהA/do/niy/YAAdonijahמָלָךְma/LAKHhas become kingוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלֹאlonotיָדָעְתָּ׃ya/DA/tayou know

    And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not:

19. 19

    וַיִּזְבַּחvay/yiz/BACHand he sacrificedשׁוֹרshoran oxוּמְרִיא־וְצֹאןu/me/RI-ve/TSONand fatlings and sheepלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledלְכׇל־בְּנֵיle/KHOL-be/NEall the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוּלְאֶבְיָתָרu/Le/ev/ya/TARand Abiatharהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוּלְיֹאָבu/Le/yo/AVand Joabשַׂרsarthe commander ofהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyוְלִשְׁלֹמֹהve/Lish/lo/MObut Solomonעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantלֹאlonotקָרָא׃ka/RAhe has called

    And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.

20. 20

    וְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhO kingעֵינֵיe/NEthe eyes ofכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkhol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaare upon youלְהַגִּידle/hag/GIDto tellלָהֶםla/HEMto themמִיmiwhoיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVshall sitעַל־כִּסֵּאal-kis/SEupon the throne ofאֲדֹנִי־הַמֶּלֶךְa/do/NI-ham/ME/lekhmy lord the kingאַחֲרָיו׃a/cha/RAYVafter him

    And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21. 21

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכִּשְׁכַבkish/KHAVwhen liesאֲדֹנִי־הַמֶּלֶךְa/do/NI-ham/ME/lekhmy lord the kingעִם־אֲבֹתָיוim-a/vo/TAYVwith his fathersוְהָיִיתִיve/ha/YI/tiand I shall beאֲנִיa/NIIוּבְנִיu/ve/NIand my sonשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonחַטָּאִים׃chat/ta/IMoffenders

    Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

22. 22

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdעוֹדֶנָּהo/DEN/nawhile she was stillמְדַבֶּרֶתme/dab/BE/retspeakingעִם־הַמֶּלֶךְim-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingוְנָתָןve/Na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetבָּא׃bacame

    And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

23. 23

    וַיַּגִּידוּvay/yag/GI/duand they toldלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhthe kingלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנָתָןNa/TANNathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed downלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingעַל־אַפָּיוal-ap/PAYVupon his faceאָרְצָה׃AR/tsato the ground

    And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנָתָןNa/TANNathanאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאַתָּהat/TAyouאָמַרְתָּa/MAR/tahave saidאֲדֹנִיָּהוּA/do/niy/YA/huAdonijahיִמְלֹךְyim/LOKHshall reignאַחֲרָיa/cha/RAYafter meוְהוּאve/HUand heיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVshall sitעַל־כִּסְאִי׃al-kis/Iupon my throne

    And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

25. 25

    כִּיkiforיָרַדya/RADhe has gone downהַיּוֹםhay/YOMtodayוַיִּזְבַּחvay/yiz/BACHand he sacrificedשׁוֹרshoran oxוּמְרִיא־וְצֹאןu/me/RI-ve/TSONand fatlings and sheepלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledלְכׇל־בְּנֵיle/KHOL-be/NEall the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוּלְשָׂרֵיu/le/sa/REand the commanders ofהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyוּלְאֶבְיָתָרu/Le/ev/ya/TARand Abiatharהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְהִנָּםve/hin/NAMand behold theyאֹכְלִיםokh/LIMare eatingוְשֹׁתִיםve/sho/TIMand drinkingלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidיְחִיye/CHIlong liveהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ׃A/do/niy/YA/huAdonijah

    For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.

    וְלִיve/LIbut meאֲנִי־עַבְדֶּךָa/NI-av/DE/khame your servantוּלְצָדֹקu/Le/tsa/DOKand Zadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְלִבְנָיָהוּve/Liv/na/YA/huand Benaiahבֶן־יְהוֹיָדָעven-Ye/ho/ya/DAthe son of Jehoiadaוְלִשְׁלֹמֹהve/Lish/lo/MOand Solomonעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantלֹאlonotקָרָא׃ka/RAhe has called

    But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called.

27. 27

    אִםimifמֵאֵתme/ETfromאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingנִהְיָהnih/YAhas been doneהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְלֹאve/LOand notהוֹדַעְתָּho/DA/tayou have made known toאֶת־[עַבְדְּךָ]et-av/de/KHAyour servant(עבדיך)vadayakhמִיmiwhoיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVshall sitעַל־כִּסֵּאal-kis/SEupon the throne ofאֲדֹנִי־הַמֶּלֶךְa/do/NI-ham/ME/lekhmy lord the kingאַחֲרָיו׃a/cha/RAYVafter him

    Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

28. 28

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidקִרְאוּ־לִיkir/U-licall for meלְבַת־שָׁבַעLe/VAT-SHA/vaBath-shebaוַתָּבֹאvat/ta/VOand she cameלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַתַּעֲמֹדvat/ta/a/MODand stoodלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    Then king David answered and said, Call me Bath-sheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.

    וַיִּשָּׁבַעvay/yish/sha/VAand sworeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidחַי־יְהֹוָהchay-Adonaias the LORD livesאֲשֶׁר־פָּדָהa/SHER-pa/DAwho has redeemedאֶת־נַפְשִׁיet-naf/SHImy soulמִכׇּל־צָרָה׃mik/KOL-tsa/RAout of every distress

    And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,

30. 30

    כִּיkithatכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיnish/BA/tiI sworeלָךְlakhto youבַּיהֹוָהba-Adonaiby the LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכִּי־שְׁלֹמֹהki-She/lo/MOsurely Solomonבְנֵךְve/NEKHyour sonיִמְלֹךְyim/LOKHshall reignאַחֲרַיa/cha/RAYafter meוְהוּאve/HUand heיֵשֵׁבye/SHEVshall sitעַל־כִּסְאִיal-kis/Iupon my throneתַּחְתָּיtach/TAYin my placeכִּיkisurelyכֵּןkensoאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEI will doהַיּוֹםhay/YOMtodayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

31. 31

    וַתִּקֹּדvat/tik/KODand she bowed lowבַּת־שֶׁבַעbat-SHE/vaBath-shebaאַפַּיִםap/PA/yimfaceאֶרֶץE/retsto the groundוַתִּשְׁתַּחוּvat/tish/TA/chuand bowed downלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidיְחִיye/CHImay liveאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidלְעֹלָם׃le/o/LAMforever

    Then Bath-sheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.

32. 32

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidקִרְאוּ־לִיkir/U-licall for meלְצָדוֹקLe/tsa/DOKZadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוּלְנָתָןu/Le/na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוְלִבְנָיָהוּve/Liv/na/YA/huand Benaiahבֶּן־יְהוֹיָדָעben-Ye/ho/ya/DAthe son of Jehoiadaוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.

33. 33

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלָהֶםla/HEMto themקְחוּke/CHUtakeעִמָּכֶםim/ma/KHEMwith youאֶת־עַבְדֵיet-av/DEthe servants ofאֲדֹנֵיכֶםa/do/ne/KHEMyour lordוְהִרְכַּבְתֶּםve/hir/kav/TEMand make rideאֶת־שְׁלֹמֹהet-She/lo/MOSolomonבְנִיve/NImy sonעַל־הַפִּרְדָּהal-hap/pir/DAupon the muleאֲשֶׁר־לִיa/SHER-lithat is mineוְהוֹרַדְתֶּםve/ho/rad/TEMand bring downאֹתוֹo/TOhimאֶל־גִּחוֹן׃el-Gi/CHONto Gihon

    The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:

34. 34

    וּמָשַׁחu/ma/SHACHand let anointאֹתוֹo/TOhimשָׁםshamthereצָדוֹקTsa/DOKZadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְנָתָןve/Na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELover Israelוּתְקַעְתֶּםu/te/ka/TEMand blowבַּשּׁוֹפָרbash/sho/FARthe trumpetוַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand sayיְחִיye/CHIlong liveהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingשְׁלֹמֹה׃She/lo/MOSolomon

    And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.

35. 35

    וַעֲלִיתֶםva/a/li/TEMand you shall come upאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himוּבָאu/VAand let him comeוְיָשַׁבve/ya/SHAVand sitעַל־כִּסְאִיal-kis/Iupon my throneוְהוּאve/HUand heיִמְלֹךְyim/LOKHshall reignתַּחְתָּיtach/TAYin my placeוְאֹתוֹve/o/TOand himצִוִּיתִיtsiv/VI/tiI have commandedלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beנָגִידna/GIDprinceעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELover Israelוְעַל־יְהוּדָה׃ve/AL-ye/hu/DAand over Judah

    Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

36. 36

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredבְּנָיָהוּBe/na/YA/huBenaiahבֶן־יְהוֹיָדָעven-Ye/ho/ya/DAthe son of Jehoiadaאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאָמֵןa/MENamenכֵּןkensoיֹאמַרyo/MARmay sayיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too.

37. 37

    כַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהָיָהha/YAhas beenיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעִם־אֲדֹנִיim-a/do/NIwith my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingכֵּןkenso(יהי)yahay[יִהְיֶה]yih/YEmay He beעִם־שְׁלֹמֹהim-She/lo/MOwith Solomonוִיגַדֵּלvi/gad/DELand may He make greatאֶת־כִּסְאוֹet-kis/Ohis throneמִכִּסֵּאmik/kis/SEmore than the throne ofאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּוִד׃Da/VIDDavid

    As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

38. 38

    וַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand went downצָדוֹקTsa/DOKZadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְנָתָןve/Na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוּבְנָיָהוּu/ve/Na/YA/huand Benaiahבֶן־יְהוֹיָדָעven-Ye/ho/ya/DAthe son of Jehoiadaוְהַכְּרֵתִיve/hak/Ke/re/TIand the Cherethitesוְהַפְּלֵתִיve/hap/Pe/le/TIand the Pelethitesוַיַּרְכִּבוּvay/yar/KI/vuand made rideאֶת־שְׁלֹמֹהet-She/lo/MOSolomonעַל־פִּרְדַּתal-pir/DATupon the mule ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוַיֹּלִכוּvay/yo/LI/khuand they ledאֹתוֹo/TOhimעַל־גִּחוֹן׃al-Gi/CHONto Gihon

    So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

39. 39

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookצָדוֹקTsa/DOKZadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestאֶת־קֶרֶןet-KE/renthe horn ofהַשֶּׁמֶןhash/SHE/menoilמִן־הָאֹהֶלmin-ha/O/helfrom the tentוַיִּמְשַׁחvay/yim/SHACHand anointedאֶת־שְׁלֹמֹהet-She/lo/MOSolomonוַיִּתְקְעוּvay/yit/ke/Uand they blewבַּשּׁוֹפָרbash/sho/FARthe trumpetוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleיְחִיye/CHIlong liveהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingשְׁלֹמֹה׃She/lo/MOSolomon

    And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.

40. 40

    וַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUand went upכׇל־הָעָםkhol-ha/AMall the peopleאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himוְהָעָםve/ha/AMand the peopleמְחַלְּלִיםme/chal/le/LIMwere playing pipesבַּחֲלִלִיםba/cha/li/LIMon pipesוּשְׂמֵחִיםu/se/me/CHIMand rejoicingשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAa joyגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatוַתִּבָּקַעvat/tib/ba/KAand was splitהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe earthבְּקוֹלָם׃be/ko/LAMby their sound

    And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

41. 41

    וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand heardאֲדֹנִיָּהוּA/do/niy/YA/huAdonijahוְכׇל־הַקְּרֻאִיםve/KHOL-hak/ke/ru/IMand all the guestsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאִתּוֹit/TOwith himוְהֵםve/HEMand theyכִּלּוּkil/LUhad finishedלֶאֱכֹלle/e/KHOLeatingוַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand heardיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabאֶת־קוֹלet-kolthe sound ofהַשּׁוֹפָרhash/sho/FARthe trumpetוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhy isקוֹל־הַקִּרְיָהkol-hak/kir/YAthe sound of the townהוֹמָה׃ho/MAin an uproar

    And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

42. 42

    עוֹדֶנּוּo/DEN/nuwhile he was stillמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspeakingוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdיוֹנָתָןYo/na/TANJonathanבֶּן־אֶבְיָתָרben-Ev/ya/TARthe son of Abiatharהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestבָּאbacameוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲדֹנִיָּהוּA/do/niy/YA/huAdonijahבֹּאbocomeכִּיkiforאִישׁisha man ofחַיִלCHA/yilvalorאַתָּהat/TAare youוְטוֹבve/TOVand goodתְּבַשֵּׂר׃te/vas/SERyou bring news

    And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.

43. 43

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredיוֹנָתָןYo/na/TANJonathanוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּla/A/do/niy/YA/huto Adonijahאֲבָלa/VALtrulyאֲדֹנֵינוּa/do/NE/nuour lordהַמֶּלֶךְ־דָּוִדham/ME/lekh-da/VIDking Davidהִמְלִיךְhim/LIKHhas made kingאֶת־שְׁלֹמֹה׃et-She/lo/MOSolomon

    And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.

44. 44

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאִתּוֹ־הַמֶּלֶךְit/TO-ham/ME/lekhwith him the kingאֶת־צָדוֹקet-Tsa/DOKZadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְאֶת־נָתָןve/ET-na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוּבְנָיָהוּu/ve/Na/YA/huand Benaiahבֶּן־יְהוֹיָדָעben-Ye/ho/ya/DAthe son of Jehoiadaוְהַכְּרֵתִיve/hak/Ke/re/TIand the Cherethitesוְהַפְּלֵתִיve/hap/Pe/le/TIand the Pelethitesוַיַּרְכִּבוּvay/yar/KI/vuand they made rideאֹתוֹo/TOhimעַלaluponפִּרְדַּתpir/DATthe mule ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule:

45. 45

    וַיִּמְשְׁחוּvay/yim/she/CHUand anointedאֹתוֹo/TOhimצָדוֹקTsa/DOKZadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְנָתָןve/Na/TANand Nathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingבְּגִחוֹןbe/Gi/CHONat Gihonוַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUand they have come upמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereשְׂמֵחִיםse/me/CHIMrejoicingוַתֵּהֹםvat/te/HOMand is in an uproarהַקִּרְיָהhak/kir/YAthe townהוּאhuthat isהַקּוֹלhak/KOLthe soundאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשְׁמַעְתֶּם׃she/ma/TEMyou have heard

    And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.

46. 46

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoיָשַׁבya/SHAVhas satשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonעַלaluponכִּסֵּאkis/SEthe throne ofהַמְּלוּכָה׃ham/me/lu/KHAthe kingship

    And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.

47. 47

    וְגַם־בָּאוּve/GAM-BA/uand also cameעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servants ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְבָרֵךְle/va/REKHto blessאֶת־אֲדֹנֵינוּet-a/do/NE/nuour lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingיֵיטֵבye/TEVmay make better(אלהיך)lahayakh[אֱלֹהִים]e/lo/HIMGodאֶת־שֵׁםet-shemthe name ofשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonמִשְּׁמֶךָmish/she/ME/khathan your nameוִיגַדֵּלvi/gad/DELand make greaterאֶת־כִּסְאוֹet-kis/Ohis throneמִכִּסְאֶךָmik/kis/E/khathan your throneוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed downהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingעַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּב׃al-ham/mish/KAVupon the bed

    And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

48. 48

    וְגַם־כָּכָהve/GAM-KA/khaand also thusאָמַרa/MARsaidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבָּרוּךְba/RUKHblessedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנָתַןna/TANhas givenהַיּוֹםhay/YOMtodayיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVone sittingעַל־כִּסְאִיal-kis/Iupon my throneוְעֵינַיve/e/NAYand my eyesרֹאוֹת׃ro/OTseeing

    And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.

49. 49

    וַיֶּחֶרְדוּvay/ye/cher/DUand trembledוַיָּקֻמוּvay/ya/KU/muand aroseכׇּל־הַקְּרֻאִיםkol-hak/ke/ru/IMall the guestsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereלַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּla/A/do/niy/YA/huwith Adonijahוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand wentאִישׁishevery manלְדַרְכּוֹ׃le/dar/KOhis way

    And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.

50. 50

    וַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּva/A/do/niy/YA/huand Adonijahיָרֵאya/REfearedמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand aroseוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentוַיַּחֲזֵקvay/ya/cha/ZEKand took holdבְּקַרְנוֹתbe/kar/NOTon the horns ofהַמִּזְבֵּחַ׃ham/miz/BE/achthe altar

    And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

51. 51

    וַיֻּגַּדvay/yug/GADand it was toldלִשְׁלֹמֹהLish/lo/MOto Solomonלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲדֹנִיָּהוּA/do/niy/YA/huAdonijahיָרֵאya/REfearsאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאָחַזa/CHAZhas taken holdבְּקַרְנוֹתbe/kar/NOTon the horns ofהַמִּזְבֵּחַham/miz/BE/achthe altarלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingיִשָּׁבַע־לִיyish/sha/VA-lilet swear to meכַיּוֹםkhay/YOMtodayהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonאִם־יָמִיתim-ya/MITif he will killאֶת־עַבְדּוֹet-av/DOhis servantבֶּחָרֶב׃be/CHA/revwith the sword

    And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

52. 52

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonאִםimifיִהְיֶהyih/YEhe will beלְבֶן־חַיִלle/VEN-CHA/yila son of valorלֹא־יִפֹּלlo-yip/POLthere shall not fallמִשַּׂעֲרָתוֹmis/sa/a/ra/TOof his hairאָרְצָהAR/tsato the earthוְאִם־רָעָהve/IM-ra/Abut if evilתִמָּצֵא־בוֹtim/ma/TSE-voshall be found in himוָמֵת׃va/METthen he shall die

    And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

53. 53

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonוַיּוֹרִדֻהוּvay/yo/ri/du/HUand they brought him downמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponהַמִּזְבֵּחַham/miz/BE/achthe altarוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed downלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonוַיֹּאמֶר־לוֹvay/YO/mer-loand said to himשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonלֵךְlekhgoלְבֵיתֶךָ׃le/ve/TE/khato your house

    So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
