   And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.

   And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomרְאֵהre/Eseeדְבָרֶיךָde/va/RE/khayour wordsטוֹבִיםto/VIMare goodוּנְכֹחִיםu/ne/kho/CHIMand rightוְשֹׁמֵעַve/sho/ME/abut one who hearsאֵין־לְךָen-le/KHAthere is not for youמֵאֵתme/ETfromהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

   And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomמִי־יְשִׂמֵנִיmi-ye/si/ME/niwho will make meשֹׁפֵטsho/FETa judgeבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landוְעָלַיve/a/LAYand to meיָבוֹאya/VOwould comeכׇּל־אִישׁkol-ishevery manאֲשֶׁר־יִהְיֶה־לּוֹ־רִיבa/SHER-yih/YE-lo-rivwho has a disputeוּמִשְׁפָּטu/mish/PATand a caseוְהִצְדַּקְתִּיו׃ve/hits/dak/TIVand I would justify him

   Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it wasבִּקְרׇב־אִישׁbik/ROV-ishwhen a man came nearלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺתle/hish/ta/cha/VOTto bow downלוֹloto himוְשָׁלַחve/sha/LACHhe put outאֶת־יָדוֹet-ya/DOhis handוְהֶחֱזִיקve/he/che/ZIKand took hold ofלוֹlohimוְנָשַׁקve/NA/shakand kissedלוֹ׃lohim

   And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.

   וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARaccording to the thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלle/KHOL-yis/ra/ELto all Israelאֲשֶׁר־יָבֹאוּa/SHER-ya/VO/uwho cameלַמִּשְׁפָּטlam/mish/PATfor judgmentאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingוַיְגַנֵּבvay/gan/NEVso stoleאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאֶת־לֵבet-levthe heart ofאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִקֵּץmik/KETSat the end ofאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingאֵלְכָהel/KHAlet me goנָּאnaI prayוַאֲשַׁלֵּםva/a/shal/LEMand payאֶת־נִדְרִיet-nid/RImy vowאֲשֶׁר־נָדַרְתִּיa/SHER-na/DAR/tithat I have vowedלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDבְּחֶבְרוֹן׃be/Chev/RONin Hebron

   And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD, in Hebron.

   כִּי־נֵדֶרki-NE/derfor a vowנָדַרna/DARvowedעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantבְּשִׁבְתִּיbe/shiv/TIwhile I dweltבִגְשׁוּרVig/SHURat Geshurבַּאֲרָםba/A/RAMin Aramלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאִם־[יָשׁוֹב]im-ya/SHOVif return(ישיב)yashayavיְשִׁיבֵנִיye/shi/VE/nishall bring me backיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוְעָבַדְתִּיve/a/vad/TIthen I will serveאֶת־יְהֹוָה׃et-Adonaithe LORD

   For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.

   וַיֹּאמֶר־לוֹvay/YO/mer-loand said to himהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלֵךְlekhgoבְּשָׁלוֹםbe/sha/LOMin peaceוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentחֶבְרוֹנָה׃Chev/RO/nato Hebron

   And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomמְרַגְּלִיםme/rag/ge/LIMspiesבְּכׇל־שִׁבְטֵיbe/KHOL-shiv/TEthroughout all the tribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכְּשׇׁמְעֲכֶםke/shom/a/KHEMas soon as you hearאֶת־קוֹלet-kolthe sound ofהַשֹּׁפָרhash/sho/FARthe trumpetוַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you shall sayמָלַךְma/LAKHhas become kingאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomבְּחֶבְרוֹן׃be/Chev/RONin Hebron

    But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.

    וְאֶת־אַבְשָׁלוֹםve/ET-av/sha/LOMand with Absalomהָלְכוּha/le/KHUwentמָאתַיִםma/TA/yimtwo hundredאִישׁishmenמִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimout of Jerusalemקְרֻאִיםke/ru/IMinvitedוְהֹלְכִיםve/hol/KHIMand goingלְתֻמָּםle/tum/MAMin their innocenceוְלֹאve/LOand notיָדְעוּya/de/Uthey knewכׇּל־דָּבָר׃kol-da/VARanything

    And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not any thing.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאֶת־אֲחִיתֹפֶלet-A/chi/TO/felAhithophelהַגִּילֹנִיhag/Gi/lo/NIthe Giloniteיוֹעֵץyo/ETSthe counselor ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidמֵעִירוֹme/i/ROfrom his cityמִגִּלֹהmig/Gi/LOfrom Gilohבְּזׇבְחוֹbe/zov/CHOwhile he offeredאֶת־הַזְּבָחִיםet-haz/ze/va/CHIMthe sacrificesוַיְהִיvay/HIand wasהַקֶּשֶׁרhak/KE/sherthe conspiracyאַמִּץam/MITSbecame strongוְהָעָםve/ha/AMand the peopleהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHgoing onוָרָבva/RAVand increasingאֶת־אַבְשָׁלוֹם׃et-Av/sha/LOMwith Absalom

    And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

13. 13

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameהַמַּגִּידham/mag/GIDthe informantאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָיָהha/YAisלֶב־אִישׁlev-ishthe heart of the men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאַבְשָׁלוֹם׃Av/sha/LOMAbsalom

    And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidלְכׇל־עֲבָדָיוle/KHOL-a/va/DAYVto all his servantsאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho were with himבִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimin JerusalemקוּמוּKU/muariseוְנִבְרָחָהve/niv/RA/chaand let us fleeכִּיkiforלֹא־תִהְיֶה־לָּנוּlo-tih/YE-LA/nuwe shall not haveפְלֵיטָהfe/le/TAescapeמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfrom beforeאַבְשָׁלֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomמַהֲרוּma/ha/RUhurryלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goפֶּן־יְמַהֵרpen-ye/ma/HERlest he hurryוְהִשִּׂגָנוּve/his/si/GA/nuand overtake usוְהִדִּיחַve/hid/DI/achand bring downעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usאֶת־הָרָעָהet-ha/ra/Athe evilוְהִכָּהve/hik/KAand strikeהָעִירha/IRthe cityלְפִי־חָרֶב׃le/FI-CHA/revby the edge of the sword

    And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidעַבְדֵי־הַמֶּלֶךְav/DE-ham/ME/lekhthe servants of the kingאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingכְּכֹלke/KHOLaccording to allאֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַרa/SHER-yiv/CHARthat choosesאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעֲבָדֶיךָ׃a/va/DE/khayour servants

    And the king's servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint.

16. 16

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְכׇל־בֵּיתוֹve/KHOL-be/TOand all his householdבְּרַגְלָיוbe/rag/LAYVat his feetוַיַּעֲזֹבvay/ya/a/ZOVand leftהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֵת־עֶשֶׂרet-E/sertenנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwomenפִּלַגְשִׁיםpi/lag/SHIMconcubinesלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepהַבָּיִת׃hab/BA/yitthe house

    And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.

17. 17

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleבְּרַגְלָיוbe/rag/LAYVat his feetוַיַּעַמְדוּvay/ya/am/DUand haltedבֵּיתbetat the house ofהַמֶּרְחָק׃ham/mer/CHAKthe distance

    And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in a place that was far off.

18. 18

    וְכׇל־עֲבָדָיוve/KHOL-a/va/DAYVand all his servantsעֹבְרִיםov/RIMpassing onעַל־יָדוֹal-ya/DObeside himוְכׇל־הַכְּרֵתִיve/KHOL-hak/ke/re/TIand all the Cherethitesוְכׇל־הַפְּלֵתִיve/KHOL-hap/pe/le/TIand all the Pelethitesוְכׇל־הַגִּתִּיםve/KHOL-hag/git/TIMand all the Gittitesשֵׁשׁ־מֵאוֹתshesh-me/OTsix hundredאִישׁishmenאֲשֶׁר־בָּאוּa/SHER-BA/uwho cameבְרַגְלוֹve/rag/LOat his feetמִגַּתmig/GATfrom Gathעֹבְרִיםov/RIMpassing onעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־אִתַּיel-It/TAYto Ittaiהַגִּתִּיhag/Git/TIthe GittiteלָמָּהLAM/mawhyתֵלֵךְte/LEKHdo you goגַּם־אַתָּהgam-at/TAyou alsoאִתָּנוּit/TA/nuwith usשׁוּבshuvreturnוְשֵׁבve/SHEVand stayעִם־הַמֶּלֶךְim-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingכִּי־נׇכְרִיki-nokh/RIfor a foreignerאַתָּהat/TAare youוְגַם־גֹּלֶהve/GAM-go/LEand also an exileאַתָּהat/TAyouלִמְקוֹמֶךָ׃lim/ko/ME/khato your place

    Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king: for thou art a stranger, and also an exile.

    תְּמוֹלte/MOLyesterdayבּוֹאֶךָbo/E/khayour comingוְהַיּוֹםve/hay/YOMand today[אֲנִיעֲךָ]a/ni/a/KHAshould I make you wanderעִמָּנוּim/MA/nuwith usלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHam goingעַלalonאֲשֶׁר־אֲנִיa/SHER-a/NIwhere Iהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHam goingשׁוּבshuvreturnוְהָשֵׁבve/ha/SHEVand take backאֶת־אַחֶיךָet-a/CHE/khayour brothersעִמָּךְim/MAKHwith youחֶסֶדCHE/sedkindnessוֶאֱמֶת׃ve/e/METand truth

    Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאִתַּיIt/TAYIttaiאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidחַי־יְהֹוָהchay-Adonaias the LORD livesוְחֵיve/CHEand as livesאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingכִּיkisurely(אם)mבִּמְקוֹםbim/KOMin the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereיִהְיֶה־שָּׁםyih/YE-shamshall be thereאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאִם־לְמָוֶתim-le/MA/vetwhether for deathאִם־לְחַיִּיםim-le/chay/YIMor for lifeכִּי־שָׁםki-shamsurely thereיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beעַבְדֶּךָ׃av/DE/khayour servant

    And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־אִתַּיel-It/TAYto Ittaiלֵךְlekhgoוַעֲבֹרva/a/VORand pass overוַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand passed overאִתַּיIt/TAYIttaiהַגִּתִּיhag/Git/TIthe Gittiteוְכׇל־אֲנָשָׁיוve/KHOL-a/na/SHAYVand all his menוְכׇל־הַטַּףve/KHOL-hat/TAFand all the little onesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereאִתּוֹ׃it/TOwith him

    And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.

    וְכׇל־הָאָרֶץve/KHOL-ha/A/retsand all the countryבּוֹכִיםbo/KHIMwere weepingקוֹלkolwith a voiceגָּדוֹלga/DOLloudוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleעֹבְרִיםov/RIMpassing overוְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingעֹבֵרo/VERpassing overבְּנַחַלbe/NA/chalthe brookקִדְרוֹןKid/RONKidronוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleעֹבְרִיםov/RIMpassing overעַל־פְּנֵי־דֶרֶךְal-pe/NE-DE/rekhtoward the way ofאֶת־הַמִּדְבָּר׃et-ham/mid/BARthe wilderness

    And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdגַם־צָדוֹקgam-Tsa/DOKalso Zadokוְכׇל־הַלְוִיִּםve/KHOL-hal/viy/YIMand all the Levitesאִתּוֹit/TOwere with himנֹשְׂאִיםnos/IMbearingאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofבְּרִיתbe/RITthe covenant ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיַּצִּקוּvay/yats/TSI/kuand they set downאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upאֶבְיָתָרEv/ya/TARAbiatharעַד־תֹּםad-tomuntil had finishedכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleלַעֲבוֹרla/a/VORpassingמִן־הָעִיר׃min-ha/IRfrom the city

    And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְצָדוֹקle/Tsa/DOKto Zadokהָשֵׁבha/SHEVcarry backאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהָעִירha/IRto the cityאִם־אֶמְצָאim-em/TSAif I findחֵןchenfavorבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוֶהֱשִׁבַנִיve/he/shi/VA/nithen He will bring me backוְהִרְאַנִיve/hir/A/niand show meאֹתוֹo/TOitוְאֶת־נָוֵהוּ׃ve/ET-na/VE/huand His dwelling

    And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation:

26. 26

    וְאִםve/IMand ifכֹּהkothusיֹאמַרyo/MARHe saysלֹאlonotחָפַצְתִּיcha/FATS/tiI delightבָּךְbakhin youהִנְנִיhin/NIhere am Iיַעֲשֶׂה־לִּיya/a/SE-lilet Him do to meכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasטוֹבtovis goodבְּעֵינָיו׃be/e/NAYVin His eyes

    But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־צָדוֹקel-Tsa/DOKto Zadokהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהֲרוֹאֶהha/ro/Ea seerאַתָּהat/TAare youשֻׁבָהSHU/vareturnהָעִירha/IRto the cityבְּשָׁלוֹםbe/sha/LOMin peaceוַאֲחִימַעַץva/A/chi/MA/atsand Ahimaazבִּנְךָbin/KHAyour sonוִיהוֹנָתָןVi/ho/na/TANand Jonathanבֶּן־אֶבְיָתָרben-Ev/ya/TARthe son of Abiatharשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoבְנֵיכֶםve/ne/KHEMyour sonsאִתְּכֶם׃it/te/KHEMwith you

    The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art not thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

    רְאוּre/Useeאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמִתְמַהְמֵהַּmit/mah/ME/ahwill wait(בעברות)vvaravat[בְּעַרְבוֹת]be/ar/VOTin the plains ofהַמִּדְבָּרham/mid/BARthe wildernessעַדaduntilבּוֹאbocomesדָבָרda/VARa wordמֵעִמָּכֶםme/im/ma/KHEMfrom youלְהַגִּידle/hag/GIDto tellלִי׃lito me

    See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.

    וַיָּשֶׁבvay/YA/shevand carried backצָדוֹקTsa/DOKZadokוְאֶבְיָתָרve/Ev/ya/TARand Abiatharאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand they stayedשָׁם׃shamthere

    Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there.

30. 30

    וְדָוִדve/Da/VIDand Davidעֹלֶהo/LEwas going upבְמַעֲלֵהve/ma/a/LEby the ascent ofהַזֵּיתִיםhaz/Ze/TIMthe Olivesעֹלֶהo/LEgoing upוּבוֹכֶהu/vo/KHEand weepingוְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand his headלוֹloto himחָפוּיcha/FUYwas coveredוְהוּאve/HUand heהֹלֵךְho/LEKHwalkingיָחֵףya/CHEFbarefootוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho were with himחָפוּcha/FUcoveredאִישׁishevery manרֹאשׁוֹro/SHOhis headוְעָלוּve/a/LUand they went upעָלֹהa/LOgoing upוּבָכֹה׃u/va/KHOand weeping

    And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

31. 31

    וְדָוִדve/Da/VIDand Davidהִגִּידhig/GIDwas toldלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֲחִיתֹפֶלA/chi/TO/felAhithophelבַּקֹּשְׁרִיםbak/kosh/RIMis among the conspiratorsעִם־אַבְשָׁלוֹםim-Av/sha/LOMwith Absalomוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidסַכֶּל־נָאsak/KEL-namake foolish I prayאֶת־עֲצַתet-a/TSATthe counsel ofאֲחִיתֹפֶלA/chi/TO/felAhithophelיְהֹוָה׃AdonaiO LORD

    And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

32. 32

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passדָוִדDa/VIDDavidבָּאbawas comingעַד־הָרֹאשׁad-ha/ROSHto the topאֲשֶׁר־יִשְׁתַּחֲוֶהa/SHER-yish/ta/cha/VEwhere he would bow downשָׁםshamthereלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMto Godוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himחוּשַׁיChu/SHAYHushaiהָאַרְכִּיha/Ar/KIthe Architeקָרוּעַka/RU/atornכֻּתׇּנְתּוֹkut/ton/TOhis coatוַאֲדָמָהva/a/da/MAand earthעַל־רֹאשׁוֹ׃al-ro/SHOupon his head

    And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:

33. 33

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאִםimifעָבַרְתָּa/VAR/tayou pass onאִתִּיit/TIwith meוְהָיִתָve/ha/YI/tathen you will beעָלַיa/LAYupon meלְמַשָּׂא׃le/mas/SAa burden

    Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:

34. 34

    וְאִם־הָעִירve/IM-ha/IRbut if to the cityתָּשׁוּבta/SHUVyou returnוְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayלְאַבְשָׁלוֹםle/Av/sha/LOMto Absalomעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאֲנִיa/NIIהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhO kingאֶהְיֶהeh/YEwill beעֶבֶדE/vedthe servant ofאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iמֵאָזme/AZfrom thenוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iעַבְדֶּךָav/DE/khayour servantוְהֵפַרְתָּהve/he/far/TAthen you will frustrateלִיlifor meאֵת־עֲצַתet-a/TSATthe counsel ofאֲחִיתֹפֶל׃A/chi/TO/felAhithophel

    But if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father's servant hitherto, so will I now also be thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.

35. 35

    וַהֲלוֹאva/ha/LOand have you notעִמְּךָim/me/KHAwith youשָׁםshamthereצָדוֹקTsa/DOKZadokוְאֶבְיָתָרve/Ev/ya/TARand Abiatharהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכׇּל־הַדָּבָרkol-had/da/VARevery wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתִּשְׁמַעtish/MAyou shall hearמִבֵּיתmib/BETfrom the house ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingתַּגִּידtag/GIDyou shall tellלְצָדוֹקle/Tsa/DOKto Zadokוּלְאֶבְיָתָרu/Le/ev/ya/TARand to Abiatharהַכֹּהֲנִים׃hak/ko/ha/NIMthe priests

    And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king's house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

36. 36

    הִנֵּה־שָׁםhin/NE-shambehold thereעִמָּםim/MAMwith themשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoבְנֵיהֶםve/ne/HEMtheir sonsאֲחִימַעַץA/chi/MA/atsAhimaazלְצָדוֹקle/Tsa/DOKof ZadokוִיהוֹנָתָןVi/ho/na/TANand Jonathanלְאֶבְיָתָרle/Ev/ya/TARof Abiatharוּשְׁלַחְתֶּםu/she/lach/TEMand you shall sendבְּיָדָםbe/ya/DAMby their handאֵלַיe/LAYto meכׇּל־דָּבָרkol-da/VARevery wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתִּשְׁמָעוּ׃tish/MA/uyou hear

    Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abiathar's son; and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye can hear.

37. 37

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameחוּשַׁיChu/SHAYHushaiרֵעֶהre/Ethe friend ofדָוִדDa/VIDDavidהָעִירha/IRinto the cityוְאַבְשָׁלוֹםve/Av/sha/LOMand Absalomיָבוֹאya/VOcameיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

    So Hushai David's friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
