   And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

   וַיֵּצֶרvay/YE/tserand it distressedלְאַמְנוֹןle/Am/NONto Amnonלְהִתְחַלּוֹתle/hit/chal/LOTto make himself sickבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofתָּמָרTa/MARTamarאֲחֹתוֹa/cho/TOhis sisterכִּיkiforבְתוּלָהve/tu/LAa virginהִיאhishe wasוַיִּפָּלֵאvay/yip/pa/LEand it was hardבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofאַמְנוֹןAm/NONAmnonלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doלָהּlato herמְאוּמָה׃me/U/maanything

   And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.

   But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

   And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

   And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

   So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

   Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat.

   וַתֵּלֶךְvat/TE/lekhand wentתָּמָרTa/MARTamarבֵּיתbetto the house ofאַמְנוֹןAm/NONAmnonאָחִיהָa/CHI/haher brotherוְהוּאve/HUand heשֹׁכֵבsho/KHEVwas lying downוַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookאֶת־הַבָּצֵקet-hab/ba/TSEKthe dough[וַתָּלׇשׁ]vat/ta/LOSHand she kneaded itוַתְּלַבֵּבvat/te/lab/BEVand made cakesלְעֵינָיוle/e/NAYVin his sightוַתְּבַשֵּׁלvat/te/vash/SHELand bakedאֶת־הַלְּבִבוֹת׃et-hal/le/vi/VOTthe cakes

   So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.

   וַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookאֶת־הַמַּשְׂרֵתet-ham/mas/RETthe panוַתִּצֹקvat/ti/TSOKand poured outלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himוַיְמָאֵןvay/ma/ENand he refusedלֶאֱכוֹלle/e/KHOLto eatוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַמְנוֹןAm/NONAmnonהוֹצִיאוּho/TSI/usend outכׇל־אִישׁkhol-ishevery manמֵעָלַיme/a/LAYfrom meוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand went outכׇל־אִישׁkhol-ishevery manמֵעָלָיו׃me/a/LAYVfrom him

   And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַמְנוֹןAm/NONAmnonאֶל־תָּמָרel-Ta/MARto Tamarהָבִיאִיha/VI/ibringהַבִּרְיָהhab/bir/YAthe foodהַחֶדֶרha/CHE/derthe chamberוְאֶבְרֶהve/ev/REand I will eatמִיָּדֵךְmiy/ya/DEKHfrom your handוַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookתָּמָרTa/MARTamarאֶת־הַלְּבִבוֹתet-hal/le/vi/VOTthe cakesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂתָהa/SA/tashe had madeוַתָּבֵאvat/ta/VEand broughtלְאַמְנוֹןle/Am/NONto Amnonאָחִיהָa/CHI/haher brotherהֶחָדְרָה׃he/CHAD/rainto the chamber

    And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

    וַתַּגֵּשׁvat/tag/GESHand she brought nearאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֶאֱכֹלle/e/KHOLto eatוַיַּחֲזֶק־בָּהּvay/YA/cha/zek-baand he took hold of herוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהּlato herבּוֹאִיBO/icomeשִׁכְבִיshikh/VIlieעִמִּיim/MIwith meאֲחוֹתִי׃a/cho/TImy sister

    And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

12. 12

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלוֹloto himאַל־אָחִיal-a/CHIno my brotherאַל־תְּעַנֵּנִיal-te/an/NE/nido not violate meכִּיkiforלֹא־יֵעָשֶׂהlo-ye/a/SEit is not doneכֵןkhensoבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelאַל־תַּעֲשֵׂהal-ta/a/SEdo not doאֶת־הַנְּבָלָהet-han/ne/va/LAthe disgraceful follyהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

    And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

    וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand IאָנָהA/nawhereאוֹלִיךְo/LIKHshould I carryאֶת־חֶרְפָּתִיet-cher/pa/TImy shameוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youתִּהְיֶהtih/YEshall beכְּאַחַדke/a/CHADas one ofהַנְּבָלִיםhan/ne/va/LIMthe foolsבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowדַּבֶּר־נָאdab/BER-naspeak I prayאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingכִּיkiforלֹאlonotיִמְנָעֵנִיyim/na/E/niwill he withhold meמִמֶּךָּ׃mim/MEK/kafrom you

    And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.

    וְלֹאve/LObut notאָבָהa/VAhe was willingלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato listenבְּקוֹלָהּbe/ko/LAto her voiceוַיֶּחֱזַקvay/ye/che/ZAKand he was strongerמִמֶּנָּהmim/MEN/nathan sheוַיְעַנֶּהָvay/an/NE/haand violated herוַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand layאֹתָהּ׃o/TAher

    Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

15. 15

    וַיִּשְׂנָאֶהָvay/yis/na/E/haand he hated herאַמְנוֹןAm/NONAmnonשִׂנְאָהsin/Aa hatredגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatמְאֹדme/ODveryכִּיkiforגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreaterהַשִּׂנְאָהhas/sin/Athe hatredאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwith whichשְׂנֵאָהּse/ne/Ahe hated herמֵאַהֲבָהme/a/ha/VAthan the loveאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwith whichאֲהֵבָהּa/he/VAhe had loved herוַיֹּאמֶר־לָהּvay/YO/mer-laand said to herאַמְנוֹןAm/NONAmnonקוּמִיKU/miariseלֵכִי׃LE/khigo

    Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלוֹloto himאַל־אוֹדֹתal-o/DOTno because ofהָרָעָהha/ra/Athe wrongהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisמֵאַחֶרֶתme/a/CHE/retthan the otherאֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂיתָa/SHER-a/SI/tathat you didעִמִּיim/MIwith meלְשַׁלְּחֵנִיle/shal/le/CHE/niin sending me awayוְלֹאve/LObut notאָבָהa/VAhe was willingלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato listenלָהּ׃lato her

    And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledאֶת־נַעֲרוֹet-na/a/ROhis servantמְשָׁרְתוֹme/sha/re/TOwho served himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidשִׁלְחוּ־נָאshil/CHU-nasend nowאֶת־זֹאתet-zotthis oneמֵעָלַיme/a/LAYfrom meהַחוּצָהha/CHU/tsaoutsideוּנְעֹלu/ne/OLand boltהַדֶּלֶתhad/DE/letthe doorאַחֲרֶיהָ׃a/cha/RE/haafter her

    Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.

18. 18

    וְעָלֶיהָve/a/LE/haand upon herכְּתֹנֶתke/TO/neta coat ofפַּסִּיםpas/SIMmany colorsכִּיkiforכֵןkhensoתִּלְבַּשְׁןָtil/BASH/nawere clothedבְנוֹת־הַמֶּלֶךְve/NOT-ham/ME/lekhthe daughters of the kingהַבְּתוּלֹתhab/be/tu/LOTthat were virginsמְעִילִיםme/i/LIMrobesוַיֹּצֵאvay/yo/TSEand brought outאוֹתָהּo/TAherמְשָׁרְתוֹme/sha/re/TOhis servantהַחוּץha/CHUTSoutsideוְנָעַלve/na/ALand boltedהַדֶּלֶתhad/DE/letthe doorאַחֲרֶיהָ׃a/cha/RE/haafter her

    And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

    וַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookתָּמָרTa/MARTamarאֵפֶרE/ferashesעַל־רֹאשָׁהּal-ro/SHAon her headוּכְתֹנֶתu/khe/TO/netand the coat ofהַפַּסִּיםhap/pas/SIMmany colorsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wasעָלֶיהָa/LE/haupon herקָרָעָהka/RA/ashe toreוַתָּשֶׂםvat/TA/semand she putיָדָהּya/DAher handעַל־רֹאשָׁהּal-ro/SHAon her headוַתֵּלֶךְvat/TE/lekhand she wentהָלוֹךְha/LOKHgoingוְזָעָקָה׃ve/za/A/kaand crying out

    And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאָחִיהָa/CHI/haher brotherהַאֲמִינוֹןha/A/mi/NONhas Amnonאָחִיךְa/CHIKHyour brotherהָיָהha/YAbeenעִמָּךְim/MAKHwith youוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֲחוֹתִיa/cho/TImy sisterהַחֲרִישִׁיha/cha/RI/shibe silentאָחִיךְa/CHIKHyour brotherהוּאhuhe isאַל־תָּשִׁיתִיal-ta/SHI/tido not setאֶת־לִבֵּךְet-lib/BEKHyour heartלַדָּבָרlad/da/VARto the thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַתֵּשֶׁבvat/TE/shevand stayedתָּמָרTa/MARTamarוְשֹׁמֵמָהve/sho/me/MAdesolateבֵּיתbetin the house ofאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאָחִיהָ׃a/CHI/haher brother

    And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.

    וְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidשָׁמַעsha/MAheardאֵת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםet-kol-had/de/va/RIMall the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיִּחַרvay/YI/charhe was angryלוֹloto himמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.

22. 22

    וְלֹא־דִבֶּרve/LO-dib/BERand did not speakאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomעִם־אַמְנוֹןim-Am/NONwith Amnonלְמֵרָעle/me/RAfrom badוְעַד־טוֹבve/AD-tovand to goodכִּי־שָׂנֵאki-sa/NEfor hatedאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאֶת־אַמְנוֹןet-Am/NONAmnonעַל־דְּבַרal-de/VARon account ofאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעִנָּהin/NAhe had violatedאֵת־תָּמָרet-Ta/MARTamarאֲחֹתוֹ׃a/cho/TOhis sister

    And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passלִשְׁנָתַיִםlish/na/TA/yimafter two yearsיָמִיםya/MIMof daysוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand there wereגֹזְזִיםgoz/ZIMshearersלְאַבְשָׁלוֹםle/Av/sha/LOMto Absalomבְּבַעַלbe/VA/alin Baal-חָצוֹרcha/TSORhazorאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isעִם־אֶפְרָיִםim-Ef/RA/yimnear Ephraimוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand invitedאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomלְכׇל־בְּנֵיle/KHOL-be/NEto all the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהִנֵּה־נָאhin/NE-nabehold I prayגֹזְזִיםgoz/ZIMshearersלְעַבְדֶּךָle/av/DE/khato your servantיֵלֶךְ־נָאYE/lekh-nalet go I beseech youהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַעֲבָדָיוva/a/va/DAYVand his servantsעִם־עַבְדֶּךָ׃im-av/DE/khawith your servant

    And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.

25. 25

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־אַבְשָׁלוֹםel-Av/sha/LOMto Absalomאַל־בְּנִיal-be/NIno my sonאַל־נָאal-nado not I prayנֵלֵךְne/LEKHlet us goכֻּלָּנוּkul/LA/nuall of usוְלֹאve/LOand notנִכְבַּדnikh/BADwe be a burdenעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaupon youוַיִּפְרׇץ־בּוֹvay/yif/ROTS-boand he pressed himוְלֹא־אָבָהve/LO-a/VAbut he was not willingלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goוַיְבָרְכֵהוּ׃vay/va/re/KHE/huand he blessed him

    And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomוָלֹאva/LOif notיֵלֶךְ־נָאYE/lekh-nalet go I prayאִתָּנוּit/TA/nuwith usאַמְנוֹןAm/NONAmnonאָחִיa/CHImy brotherוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלָמָּהLAM/mawhyיֵלֵךְye/LEKHshould he goעִמָּךְ׃im/MAKHwith you

    Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?

    וַיִּפְרׇץ־בּוֹvay/yif/ROTS-boand pressed himאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentאִתּוֹit/TOwith himאֶת־אַמְנוֹןet-Am/NONAmnonוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־בְּנֵיkol-be/NEall the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

    Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

    וַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand they didנַעֲרֵיna/a/REthe young men ofאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomלְאַמְנוֹןle/Am/NONto Amnonכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasצִוָּהtsiv/VAhad commandedאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomוַיָּקֻמוּvay/ya/KU/muand aroseכׇּל־בְּנֵיkol-be/NEall the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיִּרְכְּבוּvay/yir/ke/VUand rodeאִישׁishevery manעַל־פִּרְדּוֹal-pir/DOupon his muleוַיָנֻסוּ׃va/ya/NU/suand they fled

    And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled.

30. 30

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passהֵמָּהHEM/mathey wereבַדֶּרֶךְvad/DE/rekhon the wayוְהַשְּׁמֻעָהve/hash/she/mu/Athat the reportבָאָהva/Acameאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִכָּהhik/KAhas struckאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאֶת־כׇּל־בְּנֵיet-kol-be/NEall the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְלֹא־נוֹתַרve/LO-no/TARand there is not leftמֵהֶםme/HEMof themאֶחָד׃e/CHADone

    And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.

31. 31

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand aroseהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיִּקְרַעvay/yik/RAand toreאֶת־בְּגָדָיוet-be/ga/DAYVhis garmentsוַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand layאָרְצָהAR/tsaon the groundוְכׇל־עֲבָדָיוve/KHOL-a/va/DAYVand all his servantsנִצָּבִיםnits/tsa/VIMwere standingקְרֻעֵיke/ru/Ewith tornבְגָדִים׃ve/ga/DIMgarments

    Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.

32. 32

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredיוֹנָדָבYo/na/DAVJonadabבֶּן־שִׁמְעָהben-Shim/Athe son of Shimeahאֲחִי־דָוִדa/CHI-Da/VIDthe brother of Davidוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַל־יֹאמַרal-yo/MARlet not sayאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordאֵת־כׇּל־הַנְּעָרִיםet-kol-han/ne/a/RIMall the young menבְּנֵי־הַמֶּלֶךְbe/NE-ham/ME/lekhthe sons of the kingהֵמִיתוּhe/MI/tuthey have killedכִּי־אַמְנוֹןki-Am/NONfor Amnonלְבַדּוֹle/vad/DOonlyמֵתmetis deadכִּי־עַל־פִּיki-al-pifor by the mouth ofאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomהָיְתָהha/ye/TAit wasשׂוּמָהsu/MAdeterminedמִיּוֹםmiy/YOMfrom the dayעַנֹּתוֹan/no/TOhe violatedאֵת־תָּמָרet-Ta/MARTamarאֲחֹתוֹ׃a/cho/TOhis sister

    And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

33. 33

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאַל־יָשֵׂםal-ya/SEMlet not setאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־לִבּוֹel-lib/BOto his heartדָּבָרda/VARthe thingלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכׇּל־בְּנֵיkol-be/NEall the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingמֵתוּME/tuare deadכִּי־(אם)־אַמְנוֹןki-m-Am/NONbut Amnonלְבַדּוֹle/vad/DOonlyמֵת׃metis dead

    Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

34. 34

    וַיִּבְרַחvay/yiv/RACHand fledאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomוַיִּשָּׂאvay/yis/SAand lifted upהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe young manהַצֹּפֶהhats/tso/FEthe watchmanאֶת־עֵינָוet-e/NAVhis eyesוַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdעַם־רַבam-ravmany peopleהֹלְכִיםhol/KHIMwalkingמִדֶּרֶךְmid/DE/rekhfrom the roadאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVbehind himמִצַּדmits/TSADfrom the side ofהָהָר׃ha/HARthe mountain

    But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

35. 35

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיוֹנָדָבYo/na/DAVJonadabאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבְנֵי־הַמֶּלֶךְve/NE-ham/ME/lekhthe sons of the kingבָּאוּBA/uhave comeכִּדְבַרkid/VARas the word ofעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantכֵּןkensoהָיָה׃ha/YAit is

    And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.

36. 36

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּכַלֹּתוֹke/khal/lo/TOwhen he had finishedלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERspeakingוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdבְנֵי־הַמֶּלֶךְve/NE-ham/ME/lekhthe sons of the kingבָּאוּBA/ucameוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand lifted upקוֹלָםko/LAMtheir voicesוַיִּבְכּוּvay/yiv/KUand they weptוְגַם־הַמֶּלֶךְve/GAM-ham/ME/lekhand also the kingוְכׇל־עֲבָדָיוve/KHOL-a/va/DAYVand all his servantsבָּכוּba/KHUweptבְּכִיbe/KHIa weepingגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.

37. 37

    וְאַבְשָׁלוֹםve/Av/sha/LOMand Absalomבָּרַחba/RACHfledוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאֶל־תַּלְמַיel-Tal/MAYto Talmaiבֶּן־[עַמִּיהוּד]ben-Am/mi/HUDthe son of AmmihudמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofגְּשׁוּרGe/SHURGeshurוַיִּתְאַבֵּלvay/yit/ab/BELand he mournedעַל־בְּנוֹal-be/NOfor his sonכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃kol-hay/ya/MIMall the days

    But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

38. 38

    וְאַבְשָׁלוֹםve/Av/sha/LOMand Absalomבָּרַחba/RACHfledוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentגְּשׁוּרGe/SHURto Geshurוַיְהִי־שָׁםvay/HI-shamand was thereשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeשָׁנִים׃sha/NIMyears

    So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

39. 39

    וַתְּכַלvat/te/KHALand longedדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלָצֵאתla/TSETto go outאֶל־אַבְשָׁלוֹםel-Av/sha/LOMto Absalomכִּי־נִחַםki-ni/CHAMfor he was comfortedעַל־אַמְנוֹןal-Am/NONconcerning Amnonכִּי־מֵת׃ki-metthat he was dead

    And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
