   And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

   The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

   וְלָרָשׁve/la/RASHbut the poor manאֵין־כֹּלen-kolhad nothingכִּיkibutאִם־כִּבְשָׂהim-kiv/SAonly a ewe lambאַחַתa/CHAToneקְטַנָּהke/tan/NAlittleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatקָנָהka/NAhe had boughtוַיְחַיֶּהָvay/chay/YE/haand he nourished itוַתִּגְדַּלvat/tig/DALand it grew upעִמּוֹim/MOwith himוְעִם־בָּנָיוve/IM-ba/NAYVand with his childrenיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherמִפִּתּוֹmip/pit/TOfrom his morselתֹאכַלto/KHALit ateוּמִכֹּסוֹu/mik/ko/SOand from his cupתִשְׁתֶּהtish/TEit drankוּבְחֵיקוֹu/ve/che/KOand in his bosomתִשְׁכָּבtish/KAVit layוַתְּהִי־לוֹvat/te/HI-loand it was to himכְּבַת׃ke/VATlike a daughter

   But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

   And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

   וַיִּחַר־אַףvay/YI/char-afand was kindled the anger ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidבָּאִישׁba/ISHagainst the manמְאֹדme/ODveryוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־נָתָןel-Na/TANto Nathanחַי־יְהֹוָהchay-Adonaias the LORD livesכִּיkithatבֶן־מָוֶתven-MA/veta son of deathהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהָעֹשֶׂהha/o/SEwho has doneזֹאת׃zotthis

   And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:

6. 6

   וְאֶת־הַכִּבְשָׂהve/ET-hak/kiv/SAand the ewe lambיְשַׁלֵּםye/shal/LEMhe shall repayאַרְבַּעְתָּיִםar/ba/TA/yimfourfoldעֵקֶבE/kevbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe didאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְעַלve/ALand becauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־חָמָל׃lo-cha/MALhe had no pity

   And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנָתָןNa/TANNathanאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidאַתָּהat/TAyou areהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמְשַׁחְתִּיךָme/shach/TI/khaI anointed youלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELover Israelוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand Iהִצַּלְתִּיךָhits/tsal/TI/khaI delivered youמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofשָׁאוּל׃Sha/ULSaul

   And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

   וָאֶתְּנָהva/et/te/NAand I gaveלְךָle/KHAto youאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofאֲדֹנֶיךָa/do/NE/khayour masterוְאֶת־נְשֵׁיve/ET-ne/SHEand the wives ofאֲדֹנֶיךָa/do/NE/khayour masterבְּחֵיקֶךָbe/che/KE/khain your bosomוָאֶתְּנָהva/et/te/NAand I gaveלְךָle/KHAto youאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוִיהוּדָהVi/hu/DAand Judahוְאִם־מְעָטve/IM-me/ATand if too littleוְאֹסִפָהve/o/SI/fathen I would addלְּךָle/KHAto youכָּהֵנָּהka/HEN/nalike theseוְכָהֵנָּה׃ve/kha/HEN/naand like those

   And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.

   מַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyבָּזִיתָba/ZI/tahave you despisedאֶת־דְּבַרet-de/VARthe word ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doהָרַעha/RAevil(בעינו)vyanav[בְּעֵינַי]be/e/NAYin My eyesאֵת־אוּרִיָּהet-U/riy/YAUriahהַחִתִּיha/Chit/TIthe Hittiteהִכִּיתָhik/KI/tayou have struckבַחֶרֶבva/CHE/revwith the swordוְאֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹve/ET-ish/TOand his wifeלָקַחְתָּla/KACH/tayou have takenלְּךָle/KHAfor yourselfלְאִשָּׁהle/ish/SHAas a wifeוְאֹתוֹve/o/TOand himהָרַגְתָּha/RAG/tayou have killedבְּחֶרֶבbe/CHE/revwith the sword ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

   Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלֹא־תָסוּרlo-ta/SURshall not departחֶרֶבCHE/revthe swordמִבֵּיתְךָmib/be/te/KHAfrom your houseעַד־עוֹלָםad-o/LAMforeverעֵקֶבE/kevbecauseכִּיkithatבְזִתָנִיve/zi/TA/niyou have despised Meוַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand you have takenאֶת־אֵשֶׁתet-E/shetthe wife ofאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahהַחִתִּיha/Chit/TIthe Hittiteלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beלְךָle/KHAfor youלְאִשָּׁה׃׃le/ish/SHAas a wife

    Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

    כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iמֵקִיםme/KIMwill raise upעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaagainst youרָעָהra/Aevilמִבֵּיתֶךָmib/be/TE/khafrom your houseוְלָקַחְתִּיve/la/kach/TIand I will takeאֶת־נָשֶׁיךָet-na/SHE/khayour wivesלְעֵינֶיךָle/e/NE/khabefore your eyesוְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TIand I will giveלְרֵעֶיךָle/re/E/khato your neighborוְשָׁכַבve/sha/KHAVand he shall lieעִם־נָשֶׁיךָim-na/SHE/khawith your wivesלְעֵינֵיle/e/NEin the eyes ofהַשֶּׁמֶשׁhash/SHE/meshthe sunהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

    Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.

    כִּיkiforאַתָּהat/TAyouעָשִׂיתָa/SI/tadidבַסָּתֶרvas/SA/tersecretlyוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEwill doאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisנֶגֶדNE/gedbeforeכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelוְנֶגֶדve/NE/gedand beforeהַשָּׁמֶשׁ׃hash/SHA/meshthe sun

    For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־נָתָןel-Na/TANto Nathanחָטָאתִיcha/TA/tiI have sinnedלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiagainst the LORDוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנָתָןNa/TANNathanאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidגַּם־יְהֹוָהgam-Adonaialso the LORDהֶעֱבִירhe/e/VIRhas put awayחַטָּאתְךָchat/ta/te/KHAyour sinלֹאlonotתָמוּת׃ta/MUTyou shall die

    And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

14. 14

    אֶפֶסE/feshoweverכִּי־נִאֵץki-ni/ETSbecause scornנִאַצְתָּni/ATS/tayou have scornedאֶת־אֹיְבֵיet-oy/VEthe enemies ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבַּדָּבָרbad/da/VARby the thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisגַּםgamalsoהַבֵּןhab/BENthe sonהַיִּלּוֹדhay/yil/LODthat is bornלְךָle/KHAto youמוֹתmotdieיָמוּת׃ya/MUThe shall die

    Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

15. 15

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentנָתָןNa/TANNathanאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוַיִּגֹּףvay/yig/GOFand struckיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיָלְדָהya/le/DAboreאֵשֶׁת־אוּרִיָּהE/shet-U/riy/YAthe wife of Uriahלְדָוִדle/Da/VIDto Davidוַיֵּאָנַשׁ׃vay/ye/a/NASHand he was sick

    And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.

16. 16

    וַיְבַקֵּשׁvay/vak/KESHand soughtדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodבְּעַדbe/ADforהַנָּעַרhan/NA/arthe boyוַיָּצׇםvay/YA/tsomand fastedדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidצוֹםtsoma fastוּבָאu/VAand went inוְלָןve/LANand spent the nightוְשָׁכַבve/sha/KHAVand layאָרְצָה׃AR/tsaon the ground

    David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

17. 17

    וַיָּקֻמוּvay/ya/KU/muand aroseזִקְנֵיzik/NEthe elders ofבֵיתוֹve/TOhis houseעָלָיוa/LAYVover himלַהֲקִימוֹla/ha/ki/MOto raise him upמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsfrom the groundוְלֹאve/LObut notאָבָהa/VAhe was willingוְלֹא־בָרָאve/LO-va/RAand did not eatאִתָּםit/TAMwith themלָחֶם׃LA/chembread

    And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיhash/she/vi/Ithe seventhוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedהַיָּלֶדhay/YA/ledthe childוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand fearedעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servants ofדָוִדDa/VIDDavidלְהַגִּידle/hag/GIDto tellלוֹloto himכִּי־מֵתki-metthat was deadהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childכִּיkiforאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבִהְיוֹתvih/YOTwhile wasהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childחַיchayaliveדִּבַּרְנוּdib/BAR/nuwe spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוְלֹא־שָׁמַעve/LO-sha/MAand he did not listenבְּקוֹלֵנוּbe/ko/LE/nuto our voiceוְאֵיךְve/EKHand howנֹאמַרno/MARshall we sayאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמֵתmetis deadהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childוְעָשָׂהve/a/SAand he will doרָעָה׃ra/Aharm

    And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidכִּיkithatעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsמִתְלַחֲשִׁיםmit/la/cha/SHIMwere whisperingוַיָּבֶןvay/YA/venand perceivedדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidכִּיkithatמֵתmethad diedהַיָּלֶדhay/YA/ledthe childוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־עֲבָדָיוel-a/va/DAYVto his servantsהֲמֵתha/METis deadהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidמֵת׃metdead

    But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand aroseדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidמֵהָאָרֶץme/ha/A/retsfrom the groundוַיִּרְחַץvay/yir/CHATSand washedוַיָּסֶךְvay/YA/sekhand anointed himselfוַיְחַלֵּףvay/chal/LEFand changedשִׂמְלֹתָוsim/lo/TAVhis apparelוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameבֵית־יְהֹוָהvet-Adonaithe house of the LORDוַיִּשְׁתָּחוּvay/yish/TA/chuand bowed downוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand he askedוַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand they setלוֹlobefore himלֶחֶםLE/chembreadוַיֹּאכַל׃vay/YO/khaland he ate

    Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמָה־הַדָּבָרma-had/da/VARwhat is the thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשִׂיתָהa/SI/tayou have doneבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURforהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childחַיchayaliveצַמְתָּTSAM/tayou fastedוַתֵּבְךְּvat/TEVKand weptוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand asמֵתmetdiedהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childקַמְתָּKAM/tayou roseוַתֹּאכַלvat/TO/khaland eatלָחֶם׃LA/chembread

    Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhile yetהַיֶּלֶדhay/YE/ledthe childחַיchayaliveצַמְתִּיTSAM/tiI fastedוָאֶבְכֶּהva/ev/KEand weptכִּיkiforאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI saidמִיmiwhoיוֹדֵעַyo/DE/aknows(יחנני)yachananay[וְחַנַּנִי]ve/chan/NA/niand will be gracious to meיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְחַיve/CHAYand liveהַיָּלֶד׃hay/YA/ledthe child

    And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

23. 23

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowמֵתmethe is deadלָמָּהLAM/mawhyזֶּהzethisאֲנִיa/NIIצָםtsamfastingהַאוּכַלha/u/KHALcan Iלַהֲשִׁיבוֹla/ha/shi/VOto bring him backעוֹדodagainאֲנִיa/NIIהֹלֵךְho/LEKHam goingאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוְהוּאve/HUand heלֹא־יָשׁוּבlo-ya/SHUVwill not come backאֵלָי׃e/LAYto me

    But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

24. 24

    וַיְנַחֵםvay/na/CHEMand comfortedדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֵת־בַּת־שֶׁבַעet-Bat-SHE/vaBath-shebaאִשְׁתּוֹish/TOhis wifeוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand went inאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herוַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand layעִמָּהּim/MAwith herוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand she boreבֵּןbena son(ויקרא)vayakar[וַתִּקְרָא]vat/tik/RAand she calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹet-she/MOhis nameשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonוַיהֹוָהve-Adonaiand the LORDאֲהֵבוֹ׃a/he/VOloved him

    And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentבְּיַדbe/YADby the hand ofנָתָןNa/TANNathanהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he calledאֶת־שְׁמוֹet-she/MOhis nameיְדִידְיָהּYe/di/de/YAJedidiahבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURfor the sake ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

26. 26

    וַיִּלָּחֶםvay/yil/LA/chemand foughtיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabבְּרַבַּתbe/Rab/BATagainst Rabbah ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonוַיִּלְכֹּדvay/yil/KODand capturedאֶת־עִירet-irthe city ofהַמְּלוּכָה׃ham/me/lu/KHAthe kingship

    And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.

27. 27

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidנִלְחַמְתִּיnil/CHAM/tiI have foughtבְרַבָּהve/Rab/BAagainst Rabbahגַּם־לָכַדְתִּיgam-la/KHAD/tialso I have capturedאֶת־עִירet-irthe city ofהַמָּיִם׃ham/MA/yimthe waters

    And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.

28. 28

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֱסֹףe/SOFgatherאֶת־יֶתֶרet-YE/terthe rest ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוַחֲנֵהva/cha/NEand encampעַל־הָעִירal-ha/IRagainst the cityוְלׇכְדָהּve/lokh/DAand take itפֶּן־אֶלְכֹּדpen-el/KODlest I takeאֲנִיa/NIIאֶת־הָעִירet-ha/IRthe cityוְנִקְרָאve/nik/RAand it be calledשְׁמִיshe/MImy nameעָלֶיהָ׃a/LE/haupon it

    Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.

    וַיֶּאֱסֹףvay/ye/e/SOFand gatheredדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָםet-kol-ha/AMall the peopleוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentרַבָּתָהRab/BA/tato Rabbahוַיִּלָּחֶםvay/yil/LA/chemand he foughtבָּהּbaagainst itוַיִּלְכְּדָהּ׃vay/yil/ke/DAand took it

    And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־עֲטֶרֶת־מַלְכָּםet-a/TE/ret-mal/KAMthe crown of their kingמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponרֹאשׁוֹro/SHOhis headוּמִשְׁקָלָהּu/mish/ka/LAand its weightכִּכַּרkik/KARa talent ofזָהָבza/HAVgoldוְאֶבֶןve/E/venand a stoneיְקָרָהye/ka/RApreciousוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand it wasעַל־רֹאשׁal-roshupon the head ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוּשְׁלַלu/she/LALand the spoil ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityהוֹצִיאho/TSIhe brought outהַרְבֵּהhar/BEmuchמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    And he took their king's crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David's head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.

    וְאֶת־הָעָםve/ET-ha/AMand the peopleאֲשֶׁר־בָּהּa/SHER-bathat were in itהוֹצִיאho/TSIhe brought outוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand put themבַּמְּגֵרָהbam/me/ge/RAto the sawוּבַחֲרִצֵיu/va/cha/ri/TSEand harrows ofהַבַּרְזֶלhab/bar/ZELironוּבְמַגְזְרֹתu/ve/mag/ze/ROTand axes ofהַבַּרְזֶלhab/bar/ZELironוְהֶעֱבִירve/he/e/VIRand made passאוֹתָםo/TAMthem[בַּמַּלְבֵּן]bam/mal/BENthrough the brick kilnוְכֵןve/KHENand soיַעֲשֶׂהya/a/SEdid heלְכֹלle/KHOLto allעָרֵיa/REthe cities ofבְנֵי־עַמּוֹןve/NE-am/MONthe children of Ammonוַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand returnedדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalem

    And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.
