   And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

   And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

   וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוַיִּדְרֹשׁvay/yid/ROSHand inquired afterלָאִשָּׁהla/ish/SHAthe womanוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand one saidהֲלוֹא־זֹאתha/LO-zotis not thisבַּת־שֶׁבַעbat-SHE/vaBath-shebaבַּת־אֱלִיעָםbat-E/li/AMthe daughter of EliamאֵשֶׁתE/shetthe wife ofאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahהַחִתִּי׃ha/Chit/TIthe Hittite

   And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

   וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersוַיִּקָּחֶהָvay/yik/ka/CHE/haand took herוַתָּבוֹאvat/ta/VOand she came inאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand he layעִמָּהּim/MAwith herוְהִיאve/HIand sheמִתְקַדֶּשֶׁתmit/kad/DE/shetwas purifying herselfמִטֻּמְאָתָהּmit/tum/a/TAfrom her uncleannessוַתָּשׇׁבvat/TA/shovand she returnedאֶל־בֵּיתָהּ׃el-be/TAto her house

   And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.

   וַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanוַתִּשְׁלַחvat/tish/LACHand she sentוַתַּגֵּדvat/tag/GEDand toldלְדָוִדLe/da/VIDDavidוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidהָרָהha/RAwith childאָנֹכִי׃a/no/KHIam I

   And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

   וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־יוֹאָבel-Yo/AVto Joabשְׁלַחshe/LACHsendאֵלַיe/LAYto meאֶת־אוּרִיָּהet-U/riy/YAUriahהַחִתִּיha/Chit/TIthe Hittiteוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabאֶת־אוּרִיָּהet-U/riy/YAUriahאֶל־דָּוִד׃el-Da/VIDto David

   And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

   וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidלִשְׁלוֹםlish/LOMabout the welfare ofיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabוְלִשְׁלוֹםve/lish/LOMand about the welfare ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוְלִשְׁלוֹםve/lish/LOMand about the welfare ofהַמִּלְחָמָה׃ham/mil/cha/MAthe war

   And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidלְאוּרִיָּהle/U/riy/YAto Uriahרֵדredgo downלְבֵיתְךָle/ve/te/KHAto your houseוּרְחַץu/re/CHATSand washרַגְלֶיךָrag/LE/khayour feetוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahמִבֵּיתmib/BETfrom the house ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַתֵּצֵאvat/te/TSEand went outאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himמַשְׂאַתmas/ATa gift ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

   And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.

   וַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand lay downאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahפֶּתַחPE/tachat the door ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֵת־כׇּל־עַבְדֵיet-kol-av/DEwith all the servants ofאֲדֹנָיוa/do/NAYVhis lordוְלֹאve/LOand notיָרַדya/RADwent downאֶל־בֵּיתוֹ׃el-be/TOto his house

   But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

    וַיַּגִּדוּvay/yag/GI/duand they toldלְדָוִדLe/da/VIDDavidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹא־יָרַדlo-ya/RADdid not go downאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־אוּרִיָּהel-U/riy/YAto Uriahהֲלוֹאha/LOis it notמִדֶּרֶךְmid/DE/rekhfrom a journeyאַתָּהat/TAyouבָאvacomeמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyלֹא־יָרַדְתָּlo-ya/RAD/tadid you not go downאֶל־בֵּיתֶךָ׃el-be/TE/khato your house

    And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?

    And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־אוּרִיָּהel-U/riy/YAto Uriahשֵׁבshevstayבָּזֶהba/ZEhereגַּם־הַיּוֹםgam-hay/YOMtoday alsoוּמָחָרu/ma/CHARand tomorrowאֲשַׁלְּחֶךָּa/shal/le/CHEK/kaI will send you awayוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand remainedאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahבִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatוּמִמׇּחֳרָת׃u/mim/mo/cho/RATand the next day

    And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.

13. 13

    וַיִּקְרָא־לוֹvay/yik/RA-loand called himדָוִדDa/VIDDavidוַיֹּאכַלvay/YO/khaland he ateלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himוַיֵּשְׁתְּvay/YESHTand drankוַיְשַׁכְּרֵהוּvay/shak/ke/RE/huand he made him drunkוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outבָעֶרֶבva/E/revin the eveningלִשְׁכַּבlish/KAVto lie downבְּמִשְׁכָּבוֹbe/mish/ka/VOon his bedעִם־עַבְדֵיim-av/DEwith the servants ofאֲדֹנָיוa/do/NAYVhis lordוְאֶל־בֵּיתוֹve/EL-be/TObut to his houseלֹאlonotיָרָד׃ya/RADhe went down

    And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.

14. 14

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַבֹּקֶרvab/BO/kerin the morningוַיִּכְתֹּבvay/yikh/TOVand wroteדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidסֵפֶרSE/fera letterאֶל־יוֹאָבel-Yo/AVto Joabוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentבְּיַדbe/YADby the hand ofאוּרִיָּה׃U/riy/YAUriah

    And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

15. 15

    וַיִּכְתֹּבvay/yikh/TOVand he wroteבַּסֵּפֶרbas/SE/ferin the letterלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָבוּha/VUputאֶת־אוּרִיָּהet-U/riy/YAUriahאֶל־מוּלel-mulin front ofפְּנֵיpe/NEthe forefront ofהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe battleהַחֲזָקָהha/cha/za/KAthe fierceוְשַׁבְתֶּםve/shav/TEMand withdrawמֵאַחֲרָיוme/a/cha/RAYVfrom behind himוְנִכָּהve/nik/KAthat he may be struckוָמֵת׃va/METand die

    And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבִּשְׁמוֹרbish/MORwhen watchingיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRthe cityוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand he putאֶת־אוּרִיָּהet-U/riy/YAUriahאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMto the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיָדַעya/DAhe knewכִּיkithatאַנְשֵׁי־חַיִלan/SHE-CHA/yilvaliant menשָׁם׃shamthere

    And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.

17. 17

    וַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand went outאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוַיִּלָּחֲמוּvay/yil/la/cha/MUand they foughtאֶת־יוֹאָבet-Yo/AVwith Joabוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand fellמִן־הָעָםmin-ha/AMof the peopleמֵעַבְדֵיme/av/DEof the servants ofדָוִדDa/VIDDavidוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedגַּםgamalsoאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahהַחִתִּי׃ha/Chit/TIthe Hittite

    And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

18. 18

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabוַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldלְדָוִדLe/da/VIDDavidאֶת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵיet-kol-div/REall the matters ofהַמִּלְחָמָה׃ham/mil/cha/MAthe war

    Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

19. 19

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedאֶת־הַמַּלְאָךְet-ham/mal/AKHthe messengerלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכְּכַלּוֹתְךָke/khal/lot/KHAwhen you have finishedאֵת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵיet-kol-div/REall the matters ofהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe warלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃el-ham/ME/lekhto the king

    And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,

20. 20

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beאִם־תַּעֲלֶהim-ta/a/LEif risesחֲמַתcha/MATthe anger ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְאָמַרve/a/MARand he saysלְךָle/KHAto youמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyנִגַּשְׁתֶּםnig/gash/TEMdid you go nearאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRto the cityלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto fightהֲלוֹאha/LOdid notיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־יֹרוּet-a/SHER-yo/RUthat they would shootמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponהַחוֹמָה׃ha/cho/MAthe wall

    And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?

    מִי־הִכָּהmi-hik/KAwho struckאֶת־אֲבִימֶלֶךְet-A/vi/ME/lekhAbimelechבֶּן־יְרֻבֶּשֶׁתben-Ye/rub/BE/shetthe son of Jerubbeshethהֲלוֹא־אִשָּׁהha/LO-ish/SHAdid not a womanהִשְׁלִיכָהhish/LI/khathrowעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himפֶּלַחPE/lacha piece ofרֶכֶבRE/khevan upper millstoneמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAthe wallוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedבְּתֵבֵץbe/Te/VETSin ThebezלָמָּהLAM/mawhyנִגַּשְׁתֶּםnig/gash/TEMdid you go nearאֶל־הַחוֹמָהel-ha/cho/MAto the wallוְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAthen you shall sayגַּםgamalsoעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahהַחִתִּיha/Chit/TIthe Hittiteמֵת׃metdied

    Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

22. 22

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe messengerוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameוַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldלְדָוִדLe/da/VIDDavidאֵת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרet-kol-a/SHERall thatשְׁלָחוֹshe/la/CHOhad sent himיוֹאָב׃Yo/AVJoab

    So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe messengerאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto Davidכִּי־גָבְרוּki-ga/ve/RUindeed prevailedעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuagainst usהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand came outאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuto usהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEinto the fieldוַנִּהְיֶהvan/nih/YEand we wereעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themעַד־פֶּתַחad-PE/tachas far as the entrance ofהַשָּׁעַר׃hash/SHA/arthe gate

    And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.

24. 24

    וַיֹּראוּvay/yor/Uand shotהַמּוֹרִאיםham/mo/RIYMthe archersאֶל־עֲבָדֶיךָel-a/va/DE/khaat your servantsמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAthe wallוַיָּמוּתוּvay/ya/MU/tuand diedמֵעַבְדֵיme/av/DEof the servants ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְגַםve/GAMand alsoעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahהַחִתִּיha/Chit/TIthe Hittiteמֵת׃metdied

    And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאֶל־הַמַּלְאָךְel-ham/mal/AKHto the messengerכֹּה־תֹאמַרko-to/MARso shall you sayאֶל־יוֹאָבel-Yo/AVto Joabאַל־יֵרַעal-ye/RAlet not be evilבְּעֵינֶיךָbe/e/NE/khain your eyesאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּי־כָזֹהki-kha/ZOfor like thisוְכָזֶהve/kha/ZEand like thatתֹּאכַלto/KHALdevoursהֶחָרֶבhe/CHA/revthe swordהַחֲזֵקha/cha/ZEKstrengthenמִלְחַמְתְּךָmil/cham/te/KHAyour battleאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRagainst the cityוְהׇרְסָהּve/hor/SAand overthrow itוְחַזְּקֵהוּ׃ve/chaz/ze/KE/huand encourage him

    Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.

26. 26

    וַתִּשְׁמַעvat/tish/MAand heardאֵשֶׁתE/shetthe wife ofאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahכִּי־מֵתki-metthat was deadאוּרִיָּהU/riy/YAUriahאִישָׁהּi/SHAher husbandוַתִּסְפֹּדvat/tis/PODand she mournedעַל־בַּעְלָהּ׃al-ba/LAfor her husband

    And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

27. 27

    וַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand passedהָאֵבֶלha/E/velthe mourningוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוַיַּאַסְפָהּvay/ya/as/FAand gathered herאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוַתְּהִי־לוֹvat/te/HI-loand she became to himלְאִשָּׁהle/ish/SHAa wifeוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand she boreלוֹloto himבֵּןbena sonוַיֵּרַעvay/YE/raand was evilהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAthat had doneדָוִדDa/VIDDavidבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
